Did you have to 'ask' for it?

"Sleigh Ride" - instrumental by Trans-Siberian
LOVE all their music. Orchestral + rock. Also, try "Wizards in Winter"!
As for the episiotomy that is something - sm
you need to discuss with your doctor. Obviously they will do it if they think you are going to tear or are tearing badly. They knew I did not want one and luckily my body accommodated my wish and I did not need one either time. You need a good rapport with your doctor and let them know want you do and do not want in your delivery.
You CAN ask for an episiotomy
With my first child I had an episiotomy, second one I didn't have one and with the third child, I asked for one. I never had any problems from the stitches, but the burning pain with the passage of the baby's head without an episiotomy was the worst part of the whole birthing process. (All 3 were without anesthesia)
So, YES, you can ask for one!
You cannot 'ask' for an episiotomy,
the doctor decides at the time of your last contractions if this procedure is necessary. It depends if the vagina is widened enough so that the head of the baby can slide out. Also, a breech position asks usually for an episiotomy, in this case the doctor knows it beforehand per US, and also in case of an instrumental delivery.
I had an episiotomy with my 1st delivery, vagina too narrow and my pushing was too weak. They cut the perineum under local anesthesia and after my child was born they stitched it closed. They put me in a bed right to a faucet and every time I had the urge to pee, they let the water run down into the sink, full stream, that made me pee! I still remember that. On the 4th day I could go to the restroom, on the 5th I went home and the stitches dissolved on their own.
It is no big deal and it was not painful, after some days it was completely healed.
With my 2nd delivery I did not need an episiotomy, although it was an epidural.
After the baby is delivered, the pain is over and one feels sooooo good. I was hilarious and overwhelmed with the feeling
'I am a Mother!'
I think these were the happiest moments in my life,
EVER !
It is better to do an episiotomy than to apply
forceps to the head of the baby. Usually an instrumental delivery necessitates an episiotomy. I have never heard that a massage to the perineum is enough to substitute an episiotomy.
Fabric softener makes towels softer, yes, but it also makes them less absorbent. sm
Which is, after all, the function of a towel, absorbency. :-)
I think it's all in the delivery --
start with your parents first (i'm assuming their still with you). They're usually the most understanding of these situations. Explain that you're simply strapped for cash, but would love to have everyone come together at your place for dinner. Suggest to your parents (if they're on board with you) that the others want to exchange gifts, they can meet at someone else's place later for that. I don't see anything wrong with it as long as everyone knows up front that you're not exchanging gifts.
How much do you tip the pizza delivery guy?
I usually give them 3 or 4 dollars.
But I got to thinking with the cost of gas, maybe that's not enough? Don't they usually pay for their own gas?
How much do you tip?
If you get Chinese food delivery, use the
I save every packet of sauces from my Chinese food delivery. Whether I'm cooking bar-b-q (ribs, chicken, pork chops, etc), or baking whatever or grilling, broiling, or boiling, I can usually throw together something from those packets depending on what flavoring I want to achieve. My dad taught me not to look at recipes, but just to think about how flavors work together and trust your guts. That doesn't work for everyone, but I've made some delicious dinners when I didn't have any other seasonings in the house but those Chinese food packets :) Try to remember to balance out a sweet with a sour (or salty) flavor. I remember how I was horrified when he put cinnamin in a pot roast once, but it was the best roast I ever had. He had been doing it for years...he just hid it from me. Once I knew he used it, I enjoyed it more than I ever had!
Usually PPD onset is after 2-3 weeks of delivery. sm
I have had both OB and psychiatric nursing and the textbooks suggest that it tends to not be PPD unless it is 2-3 weeks after delivery, that is how long it takes the serotonin and dopamine levels to change for depression after birth. Sounds like she has a case of post partum blues (not same as depression) as well as a case of her child not being born with things according to her "ideal baby" that she had been anticipating for 9 months. Call her, stop by, research the medical issue and be there to listen and offer facts if she wants to talk about it. Otherwise, don't treat her different than you did pre-baby or you won't seem sincere.
Does anyone ever use Schwan't food delivery?
My neighbor uses it every week. She works as a nurse but does like to 18hr shifts twice a week. She has 9yr old twins, a 4yr old, and an 18mo old. She home schools her children. He DH works for the railroad.
I am just curious if it really is a benefit and worth the money. Maybe for that size family it is more practical for them but maybe not for a smaller family. Is the food ready made and frozen, how much work is there in fixing a meal, etc.
Anyone familar with this? Just wondering!
I wish I MADE as much as a pizza delivery guy

Perineal massages are done during delivery sm
most of the time if the doc is willing to take the time to do them. Do NOT ask for an episiotomy. I had 3 degree laceration from it with a 6 lb 5 oz child and still have tenderness in that spot today from 17 years ago, which interfers with relations.
To tear or not to tear depends on a lot. Depends on your control, the nurses hollering for you to "push" with all your might, which makes you tear, the doc's techniques, and how healthy your body tissues are. If you are a smoker, your tissues will tear more easily as they will if you are unhealthy and don't take care of yourself. Your body is what you put into it. Our tissues are made to stretch and if given the time to do so, it will. I have personally delivered over 200+ babies as a midwife and have performed an episiotomy ONCE in 200+ deliveries. By control, I mean when that "ring of fire/burning" hits, the cause of that is your skin stretching. This is when you want to go slow and easy with the pushing and allow it time to stretch (of course provided baby is stable with heart tones/color, doc's call). Look at it like this...if you take a water balloon and try to push it through a paper towel roll by shoving it in there, it will eventually break and bust due to pressure. If you work the balloon through the roll, it will go through there without busting or breaking. It just takes time to adapt to the shape/figure to fit through it. Your baby is the same way coming through your vaginal opening. Allow it time to mold the baby's head and stretch your skin around the baby's head and you will not tear nor need an epiostomy and I don't care how big the baby is.
Good luck to you and educate yourself ~ that is the key to any successful delivery. Email me if you wish.
Although I am a fan of not having epidurals, leave that option open. If you get to a rough spot and want it, get it. If you are handling labor well, keep on trucking without it. The hardest part of labor and most intolerable is the 2nd stage, which is the shortest stage, and means it will all be over soon. Get your body active if they will let you and you will be able to tolerate pain much easier than lying in a bed thinking of nothing but the pain. It is more of a mind control thing. Anyone can do it if they put their minds to it and want it bad enough.
pizza delivery tipping question
Hi all: I've recently noticed that a prominent pizza chain that begins with a D has started charging me a 1.50 delivery charge. I normally tip the delivery guy anywhere between 3 and 6 depending on amount of order, weather conditions, etc. I'm wondering who this 1.50 goes to and why are they charging me 1.50. If goes to the delivery guy, great, more power to him.
Also, do you tip higher on Superbowl Sunday? Just curious. TIA
Pizza for us too (delivery) - my cuboards are bare
Been bare all week. Tired of meals consisting of popcorn, potato chips, or buttered rice (nothing else, just buttered rice), and other "non-meal" items.
Glad the weekend is here to do grocery shopping.
I'd pay extra for shipping at this point if they can guarantee delivery. nm

On our takeout Chinese restaurant menu - We delivery! lol

You must live in a high pizza delivery paying
area that they get $7-8/hr. Most make minimum, if that, but keep their tips. Oh, add in gas to save you the trip of lugging it home yourself, then yes $2 is insulting.
Most places guarantee delivery by the 24th if ordered by the 22nd. EAsy.

this makes me sad...
Life is too short to be unhappy. If you don't love your husband and are not attracted to him anymore, then why don't you leave him? I can't imagine why people (both men and women) stay in a bad, unhappy marriage. It can't be worth the effort.
Thankfully, I am very happily married (though of course, we do have our bad times...) and can't imagine my life without my husband. But at the same time, I can't imagine being miserably married either.
You need to search your heart and really figure out how you feel about your husband. Good luck!
makes me sad, too. nm

Makes you wonder
how often this has happened with him over the 7-year period of his relationship with the other gal. I would be very cautious as the other posters say. Wait for someone who is worthy of you!
What makes you think she will?
I have always been very open with all of my children, and I have 4, 3 are grown, and they tell me everything. So far I have one who is in grad school and still a virgin because he said he refuses to have relationships just for the sake of having them, he'll wait until the "one" comes along. One is married. One is 18 and did have sex at 17 and said it was the worst thing he'd ever done and he wishes he would have waited. He told me about it the next day and was upset about it. My daughter isn't dating although she has 2 boys at the current time who are interested. She said "Mom I'm too young for that, I'd rather be friends right now." She also knows that should the time come when she IS ready for a serious relationship, she could come to me to help her make decisions and take full precautions. She in fact told the doctor she knows all about "crotch rot" and it isn't worth the risk. I have friends who say their children won't even talk to them if they need a laxative and that's really sad...if they can't talk to their parents, who will they talk to? So if my daughter tells me that she agrees she doesn't need it and her doctor said if she has no "at risk" behaviors she doesn't need it, then there's absolutely no reason to get it, esp considering there ARE side effects to it and it's new on the market, so the full effect won't be known for a few years.
this makes me want to
stop buying pet food all together and feed my animals food that I eat. Who knows what else has been poisoned with this, treats, other brands of foods, etc. I have been watching all my animals very closely, even though they don't eat any of the recalled foods. Scary issue.
Not OP but can you tell me who makes this?
You made it sound soooo good I have to try it! :)
Tell me about it- and what makes me mad
is if you struggle for 2-3 years and slowly pay off all your creditors like I did, you can't get credit to save your life.
Yet if I had just declared bankruptcy and let them all go I would be rolling in credit by now because they know that you can only declare it every 7 years so they figure you are a better risk. I think that kind of logic is kind of questionable and definitely unfair. I don't really want a bunch of credit cards any more but I do have to have credit to buy a car and/or a house someday and then what? Pay 35 percent interest??
Me makes 3!
Hope you don't mind another neighbor hopping into this string. Finally saw someone close to my area and it made me smile. I'm originally from near Hershey, but relocated to close to Altoona this past January. It's not quite as close to Pittsburgh as you all, but it was close enough for me to want to say hi! Felt good to see a post from "my region" ... feel like I'm all alone in this MT world sometimes LOL
Makes me wonder if he
is gay or something. This is really weird!
And that makes it okay?
He's an elected official; he is held to much higher standards than the general public. That attitude is why the exploitation of women is so accepted in our sick and twisted society...geez!
My ex makes a lot more $$ than me so
he pays 75% of expenses, I pay 25%.
Makes me think of someone I know.....ME!!! lol!
Thanks......that was a good laugh.....
too familiar!

Makes me wonder...
if the delivery person gets this surcharge or the company keeps it.
That makes 2 of us!
Me too! - that makes three of us.
I did get married outdoors at a location of a famous movie though!
OH, THAT MAKES ME SO MAD!! My
ex-husband would literally refuse to let them in, no matter how they tried to push in front of us.
That just makes me ill
Talk about milking the system for every little penny they can get. Seven kids and ANOTHER on the way! What a bunch of scum! Get a real job and stop reproducing!
That just makes me ill
Talk about milking the system for every penny you can get! There are many people out there who actually NEED that kind of help and can't get it! These scum bangs need to stop having so many kids just so they can sit at home being lazy and not get an actual job while our tax dollars pay for them being so irresponsible!
Whenever she makes a comment that you
suspect is made as a dig, try smiling pleasantly and saying, "What?" and waiting for a reply. If she is trying to be mean and trying to slip it by everybody else, she may not be willing to explain what she meant. If you do it every time, not quite hearing or understanding those comments, you will tire her out because her zing didn't hit.
Oh, well THAT makes it so, huh?! Look, CHRIST is
I don't hate Santa. But this business of "thank God for Santa" is utter sacrilege.
I'm tired of hearing how Santa is what keeps everything good and the hope alive. BULL.
Christ. Remember that name. Christ.
All of you who are ga-ga over the commercialization business of Christmas -- that is nauseating, it is sacrilegious and it flies in the face of God.
Pathetic.
Thanks - makes me wish my kids were little again.

it actually makes no sense
to sell a sound, healthy horse at auction for a fraction of the price that can be sold outright. If the horse is too slow to race ont the track they can and are used in other disciplines. Its hard to believe that practice is widespread. When a horse finds its way to auction there are other underlying reasons..
OMG that makes me SO homesick.
I don't like her, but this makes sense to me.
nm
That makes me sick.

money just makes you more of what you already are -
Human garbage in his case. Cannot stand to see those given so much just disregard the rules of society. Shame on him. So glad he is going to jail!
Your post makes me sad
If hunting bear because only thing you had to eat as in some eskimos, I could understand. I do not understand hunting these magnificant animals for sport, blood sport at that. I went to Alaska and loved it, saw bears out in the open but also saw bears that were hunted for sport and just to be killed for what, macho man? I am so sorry your husband and others do this.
You are right, everyone makes mistakes
but like you said they are held to a higher degree of accountability.
If you have every worked in a hospital, in any capacity, even as an MT, you know that there is a system of checks balances for everything from dietary and housekeeping to OR employees. There is a reason why these systems including HIPAA, OSHA, and JHACO are in place. Sadly, there are always those few doctors (thank goodness for the nurses' who commonly save their rears such as in this case) who think they are above "policy and procedure." This might be a simple case of someone needing to be reminded that they are not above any protocol and they can make serious mistakes very easily.
That makes me curious...how old were YOU the SM
first time you had sex (not that it's any of my business, but I'm just curious).
I was 16. I wish I had waited until I got married. But hormones got the better of me. I was sooo "in love" with this older guy and finally gave in to his daily requests for sex.
I knew about birth control, but was raised that it was "wrong" to use birth control....which is ironic as I was raised it was wrong to have premarital sex too! LOL
I'm just really glad I didn't get pregnant until after I was married, but it was definitely a possibility.
So, I think we shouldn't judge her too harshly.

wow..your post makes me sad
teenagers should not "always use condoms". teenagers should abstain. It is because we choose not to teach this that we have this problem. I will never just accept the "since the beginning of time" attitude.
