Americans are such suckers for SCARE tactics

imposed on us daily by the corporate media.
That's not to say don't be concerned and vigilant - just not to cave everytime they decide to scare us with propaganda.
WHAT is the school supposed to DO about "it" anyway?
In MHO, call your lawyer NOW... he is teaching your children to be afraid, overreact, and believe every scare tactic that comes down the pike.

scare tactics
Their "logic" (sic)has been around for years. I'm an old hippie and when I was in college (a large university), every religious freak around said it was THE END because of our sinful ways. We can't change destiny...just trust God and live for each day at a time. Don't let them terrorize you & your family over something they have no way of knowing any more than you do.
Since when have belittling and scare tactics
ever done anything except exacerbate/escalate this kind of situation. Will reiterate the obvious. You should be helping yourself and deal with your own abuse issues before trying to "help" someone else, if this is the best you can do. This is also coming from someone who has BTDT.
Scare tactics and the economy ? sm
Anyone else experiencing people using the current economic crisis as an "end of the world" prediction? I would have used the "OTHER" board but some of these people are too "out there." We have a few members of our family scaring the heck out of the kids in the family that this is the "end" and you know the rest. Supposedly we're only going to be here until 2012 and then it's "all over" so they better give up their wordly ways and follow them. I'm so sick of it, I feel that this is the time for all of us to band together and ride out the storm. I'm tired of people trying to "steal" my kids' minds. How do you shut these people up? Some of them are on that "social" network, assembling the family together so we can all share our resources and band together for the big coming of the end. I'm just so very upset right now -- isn't it bad enough that we are struggling. I think things will get better as we get more and more into a stable financial picture. We were just living "too high on the hog" and things will get better. I don't think we're all going to perish. Why can't we just try to be happy and get through it? Why can't it be a new beginning instead of the saved vs. the unsaved and the "end" coming?
its suckers like you
who make these places put out tip jars on the counter when you go and pick up your food. I was a waitress for 13 years, so I know what it is like to live on tips, but why would you tip someone who is already being paid to do their job and you had to pick it up, unbelievable. Andy Rooney did a segment on these so called tip jars, and basically said they were made for suckas.
They are sneaky little suckers...
I am trying to rebuild my credit starting with just a small credit card, and accepted what seemed to be a nice, lower-interest credit card with no yearly fee. The limit is only $500, which is what I wanted just to buy a few things a month and pay it off in full. After the first year of paying on time every month (the same day I received the bills), sometimes making two payments a month, not even coming close to the limit, I get a notice in the mail saying they have reveiwed my history with them and that they will now be charging a $79 a year fee. For some dumb reason I kept the card *because ya never know,* and my dog was having health problems that required trips to the vet every 3 days for bandage changes. I paid the fee and kept the card.
It is now 6 months later, still pay on time to a $0 balance every month, and now they are raising the interest rate to a variable that goes up to 29%, again after reviewing my history with them. What? I thought I was doing an excellent job at keeping this one little CC account paid in full and never late, and this is how they reward me? I'm going to award them by closing the account and giving them one less sucker to take money from.
Collection Agency Tactics??
Does anyone know who I should contact, or if I have anything to complain about regarding a collection agency out of Texas. I used to actually work for a collection agency 20+ years ago out of Florida, and we would NEVER have been able to say what these people have said to me via phone, let alone in a letter I just opened. Long story short, yes, I owe HSN $200+ for a computer I bought on a payment plan of $135 a month. Before I was done with payment #2, it broke, and thus began months and months of me sending this junk back and forth with Gateway. It was a lemon model, thus why it was offered for 5 payments on HSN. After I made payment #2 and Gateway had the computer for repairs more than we had it to use, I called HSN. In no uncertain words, the sales rep told me "you bought it, you deal with it". There were lots of reviews at this point on HSN and all buyers were furious, as it was junk. HSN quickly removed the computer and reviews. So, yes, I have been lax in paying it, but it didn't even last 2 months. At any rate, they throw me to a collection agency, who calls at least 15 times a day. I am sending them payments. I get a letter today that actually says they are going to "ASSEMBLE AN INVESTIGATIVE REPORT WHICY WILL OR MAY INCLUDE...INFORMATION AS TO MY CHARACTER AND GENERAL REPUTATION"... the caps and bold are their writing. It then goes on to say that I should send $$ immediately as they have "NO DESIRE TO CAUSE ME EMBARASSMENT"... Can they word things this way? I have never in all my life seen anything worded to this effect, as obviously, even though they use the word "may", it is a direct insinuation to scare me that they are going to ruin my reputation and are questioning my character, and threatening embarassment. Seriously, has anyone ever seen this before? I don't have a lot of experience with agencies, other than working for one decades ago, and hearing horror stories on TV shows about stuff like this, which I could not believe! Does anyone have any thoughts on who I could contact? I wonder if HSN knows this agency is saying personal stuff like this? I know companies just farm out their old debts to agencies. Again, its a tough one for me to swallow, as the computer never lasted even halfway thru their 5 easy payment plan, but I have recognized the debt and am paying, albeit at $50 every 2 weeks. But this insulting letter was just the icing on the cake for me. Do you think its legal?
i don't want to scare you....
This could be completely off the wall and hopefully like the other say it is a complete jealousy issue but I think you need to actually take it seriously, because as lame as this is, I was browsing on myspace... (yea im only 26! lol) but i came across some disturbing profiles... and it turns out there is a HUGE community of adults that LOVE to wear diapers and act like babies. I honestly thought it was a joke until you just kept clicking on all these different profiles which just led you to MORE profiles (dont know if you know how it works)... but it was like this whole diaper fetish. It really was gross to me... I know your child is only 5 years old but hopefully you can put an end to it while he's still young an impressionable. I really went back and forth about posting this at all cause I don't want to act like I'm being pessimistic or think this has ANYTHING to do with the future of your son... i just thought I'd let you know... sorry if i offended anyone!
What a scare!!
My dad was over here and I had an extra hamburger from Sonic. He was eating it and got choked on a pickle. I thought OMG What do I do? He was in the floor on his knees, red faced, gasping for air, and I went over and took the base of my palm and hit pretty hard between the shoulder blades. It came out. I need to learn the Heimlach (sp?). What a scary ordeal.
sorry, His speaking out against it would scare me too.

That's the part that would scare me (sm)
My daughter is grown, thank goodness. I don't have to deal with this decision. If I did have a daughter school age, I would be more concerned with the consequences years down the road from this vaccination. It is just too new, in my opinion, and Gov. Perry is trying to shove it down our throats. I would strongly object.
Cities scare the poop out of me...
I don't even like to visit cities, much less live in one. I lived 20 minutes outside of Boston my whole life and NEVER visited it for funsies. I only went there as a kid for field trips, and to Logan Airport a few times as an adult. I have some sort of meltdown/panic disorder when it comes to traffic, tunnels, tall buildings, and angry people...which are plentiful in that neck of the woods. Everyone all hopped up on their fancy-pants Starbucks shouting all angry-like on their cell phones...gives me the heebs just thinkin' about it!
Yep, whole other food chain those cities are.
Need advice - ex has pulled my kid out of school re MRSA scare
My son lives with his dad 500 miles away. It was his birthday today, he's 13 and in 8th grade. I called to wish him happy birthday. He said his dad had pulled him out of school due to paranoia about MRSA (staph infections) outbreaks. I asked him if there'd been any in his school, he said no, just some of the surrounding communities. He said his dad won't let him go back to school until the school "does something abou it". The ex got on the phone demanding I look up two vaccinations for it online and give my opinion "because I'm in the health field". I type radiology, for goodness sake, and even if I was familiar with the names of the drugs, it doesn't mean I'd know all about them just because I could spell them!
Upon researching this, it appears the chances of getting fatal MRSA are pretty slim, and I had much more chance getting it when I worked on site in the hospital than my son does (son does not play sports if he can keep from it). I think my ex is off the deep end, and I'm afraid I might have to take him to court (again) to force him to let the child go to school. His school is closed tomorrow so I'll have to wait until Monday to call them and see how long my son has actually been absent.
Anybody have any advice for me? How long should I give my ex to work through his paranoia before I call a lawyer (again)? Has anyone else taken their kids out of school over this?
it doesn't just scare you it scares the person you're in bed with too!!!
My boyfriend had these episodes where he would be falling asleep and then get real tense and start breathing heavy and fast... and i'd try to wake him... and it would take minutes. okay probably seconds... but it felt like forever.
then he would say that he was trying to open his eyes and speak, but couldn't, and describes what you are describing, with a few differences. I looked it up and found sleep paralysis. It sounds very much like this...
it only happens every once in awhile to him, but I sure get so scared when it happens. sounds silly, but it is freaky to see him tense up and know something is happening that i can't stop!!
I like them better than most Americans.

not *all* - not the Native Americans....
and should be tolerant.....our ancestors wanted tolerance too (and not all received tolerance and for decades, eh?).....
we should all have taken many lessons from history.....and be more tolerant.
just my nickel's worth...
ya know if all Americans were rude like you, they
dense because you don't know how to get over your rude-sounding self
here, let me help.............
and NOT all who came were legal - Ellis Island or no Ellis Island......sheesh - talk about dense......
Wish we could all unite as Americans.

Because Americans want a quick fix
>>I don't understand why people will take a med if its something that will run its course and your body will take care of.
They don't want to suffer with ANYTHING - illness or otherwise. It's all about instant gratification. Fix me now, with the least amount of effort on my part. A pill for weightloss, a pill for depression - suck out my fat. How many people take drugs for diabetes or high blood pressure or cholesterol - when diet and exercise would fix the problem? I understand that not everyone with those problems can be fixed without medication - but many, many could be.
Why is it that when Americans think of Europe,
they usually only think of
France
Britain
Italy
followed by Germany?
The EU has 27 member states.
Americans are ______
Fill in the blank.
Ummm... Americans can also be Muslim, or are you
x
meant-if all americans were rude like you....
I know so many foreigners - some legal, some not legal - and NONE OF THEM - added all together - come off as rude as some posters here.........that's for sure.........and some of them work 5 jobs.......hence, why they're doing so well in this country.
Many American people won't *lower* themselves to do ANY menial type work - so all the illegals and some non-illegals will do anything to stay here...and no, they don't spend their time on bulletin boards online like some *white collar* workers seemingly always do.....
have a nice day/evening
Excuse me very much, but it is a know n fact that Americans
have the hardest time to learn foreign languages and if they learn, they speak it with a very strong accent.
If they were made in the US by Americans, I'd have no problem with it all, but sm
they aren't! If you are going to spend like that, put in the hands of AMERICAN manufacturers.
Yes, it is a word! A lot of Americans do not know the correct
grammar.
The correct grammar sounds wrong to them because they always use the wrong grammar.
This is correct (from a dictionary!!)
stu·pid (stôô'pĭd, styôô'-)
adj. stu·pid·er, stu·pid·est
Slow to learn or understand; obtuse.
Tending to make poor decisions or careless mistakes.
Marked by a lack of intelligence or care; foolish or careless: a stupid mistake.
Dazed, stunned, or stupefied.
Pointless; worthless: a stupid job.
n. A stupid or foolish person.
What would you say, probably
' more stupid? '
FYI that's WRONG, because only adjectives with 3 syllables get the comparative/superlative form with 'more' and 'most'.
Stupid, stupider, stupidest is right and you are ......!
A lot of Americans move to Mexico for this very reason.(nm)

Let us not forget the Americans at Columbine and Oklahoma City.
Definitely cannot turn this into a race thing. You can't always tell who will do what and this guy had been in our country legally for quite some time.
Im not talking about a check. Im talking about a positive administration working FOR Americans and
Not receiving a check each month to help us out is not what got us in this mess...
