Also one thing I've found

In Reply to: Okay. I'm starvin! Started on Jan 1 to not diet, but to cut my portions in HALF and sm - Starvin
is to always eat something crunchy with your meals - mine is often raw carrots or a few nuts. I have only about 10 pounds to go and it was hard, but I find I really like my 3 mile walk every night to unwind! Good luck to you!

One of the best ways I've found to
avoid holiday stress -- a Christmas Club. The first year, we just did a $500 one - that's $10 a week. Then after that, we decided to go with a $1000 one - just $20 a week. I know it sounds like a lot, but think about how many times you pick up a $5 lunch at McD's or buy something in the grocery store you really don't need. If you pay it out of your check first (or direct deposit right into the club account), you don't even miss it.
Another way to avoid stress (I have 3 kids, so I do get stressed) for me is to have each of my kids write their lists early, usually early November, after they've had a chance to study the JCP Christmas catalog. Then I get on line starting in November to check for the early Black Friday ads. The more stuff I can cross off on Black Friday, the better for all. I have gotten great deals on Black Friday. Yes, it's sometimes stressful to get up and get those deals, but it can be done.
Lastly, I try to emphasize to my kids that it's the spirit of Christmas that's important, creating traditions to pass down. Kids appreciate that more than anything under the tree.
I had the same thing and found out sm
I had gout. I had lost about `100 pounsa. So have your uric acid checked, just an idea.
I've found them to be close to the same Misses size,

Why would you think her purse was in the trunk of her car?? They've found "items" on a maj
road so i'm wondering if it's the contents from her purse. It's very strange - no forced entry, only her purse was taken.
The latest is that she is still in critical but stable condition. If it's someone she knew, I hope she has not suffered any brain damage and can identify that person. They said she will have to undergo multiple surgeries - I wonder if she will ever return to our news station? Also, she's in the new movie "W" and had been at a premier for it late last week.
Aww, poor thing. Glad you found it in time...sm
If it is still out there in the morning and you are not sure what to do, try giving a veterinarian a call and see if they have a wildlife rescue place you could call. The vet I worked for years ago had a list of places to refer caring people like you. Good luck.
I've been going through the same thing,
and I think I've found relief today. I talked to a career counselor at a private school and he was very encouraging. I knew I needed to go back to school and get a better job, but what? I have done a lot of research, and coding makes the most "sense" in some ways because I could go to Andrews for about $4000 and get out and get a job that pays very well. The only problem is that I'd still have a job where I sit in a chair in the basement of a hospital and deal with paper (or computer work). I'm 44, and I must be going through menopause or something, but just like you I am sick of sitting still and being bored. I want to move and interact and feel important and make a good wage and be in demand. After talking to this counselor he encouraged me that I could do it - be a surgical tech. He's been through the course himself, and had the same doubts, but his huge clumsy hands did learn it. He says he needs a career that is more in the field of counseling and he's now going for his PhD, but he convinced me not to take a course that is going to go against what my brain wants to do. I'm still looking into the details to make sure I don't have to take a bunch of prerequisites (sp?)like a community college would make me do, but I suddenly feel alive again.
I've researched many of the medical careers, so if you have questions, I may be able to answer. There is financial aid available. We can do this.
What's the one cooking thing you've never been able to
I cannot make a pizza dough I'm happy with, and I can't tell you how many recipes I've tried. Regular rise; made in the bread machine; all-purpose flour; bread flour; it doesn't matter. I've tried and tried but I've never been able to get that elasticy dough you need for a good crust.
Do you have one thing that just defeats you, every time?
The only thing I've read about
are problems with microwaving with plastic dishes. Sounded like glass was okay.
That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
A cat is a natural predator to those small mammals and birds and I don't see any of them going extinct because of cats.
I do agree that house cats should be kept inside, but only for their own protection and that's only my opinion. My cats stay inside exclusively.
I've done it so many times -- most exciting thing
Wow, where do I start? I left MI when I was 23, having heard San Diego was nice. I loaded up the Chevy and headed West. One of many, many adventures I've had. I've driven back and forth relocating across this country too many times to count, taking my job with me where ever I go. Atlanta, Chicago, LA, San Diego. I've done it with cats, a baby, and a 30-year-old car -- everytime all by myself. I have a CB radio to keep in touch with the truckers and they would always help me when I would break down, overheat, or need any sort of help. There is nothing like seeing this great country of ours one slow mile at a time. Colorado and Utah are by far the most beautiful, but treacherous because of the Rocky Mountains.
As far as moving to a city you don't know a whole lot about, you have to contact the Chamber of Commerce for any particular city for all sorts of information about their town --- also part of the adventure. I always loved being a stranger in a strange land.
And fear, oh yes, but more bravery than anything. I've always told people that pretend bravery is the same as the real thing, just fake it and you'll do fine. If you're young and courageous, I say totally go for it!!
OMG - that's the funniest thing I've ever read!
Isn't that a shame? But it's not just a recent thing. I've heard of it

I've read the same thing about bathing dogs. sm
I have a Sheltie, and the Sheltie book recommends bathing when s/he gets very dirty or before a show. They don't need routine bathing. They need frequent brushing which removes dirt. Some dog breeds don't have oily coats, so don't smell. Sheltie is one of them, a collie is probably the same.
I recommend taking Maggie to the groomer for a good brushing every other week or so. It would be good for Maggie's coat and skin. The groomer can advise you when she needs a bath.
What is the MOST outrageous thing you've seen/heard while working in the medical field?
While working in an oncology office I had a heartbreaking conversation with a newly-widowed young mother of 2. Apparently healthy husband suddenly turned up with a brain tumor, which killed him pretty quickly. The life insurance company did their due diligence and investigated the case, since the policy was issued only weeks before the diagnosis; but the patient had NO indications of illness at the time, and the medical records basically proved the negative; he hadn't been to a doctor because he wasn't sick.
In the course of discussing the point with the claims examiner, the widow told him it wasn't about the money (although she was going to need it to raise her 2 kids by herself). She'd FAR rather have her husband back. The claims examiner said he'd far rather have the woman's husband back too...
... wait for it ...
... because if he were still alive, he'd still be paying premiums to the insurance company!
Yes, it really happened.
I suggested the widow contact the state insurance commissioner's office and report the guy. Even if what he said/did was not precisely illegal, it was WRONG, WRONG, WRONG.
Happiness is a heart thing; pleasure is a head thing.nm
If you've got one, you've got bunches!
How do ya feel about cats? That's what I'd do...get a cat...but I love cats and love it when they bring me 'presents' of dead varmints.
If that's not an option, and you're not comfortable with baiting, glue traps, or that sort of thing, it'd be worth it to hire a professional 'cridder ridder' or exterminator. Those things will chew up your walls and floorboards like you have no idea and cause incredible amounts of damage. Good luck in your jihad!
I've done this 12 yrs and I've had to take breaks sm
Took a break and worked at my kids preschool one year, worked at a hospital one year, took a couple months off once. It does burn you out because it takes all of your concentration. When I worked at the hospital as a secretary I could not believe how easy the job was ;-) I was sooo used to just getting paid for actual work that when I had a conversation with a coworker or a phone call or took lunch, I felt like I was getting away with a lot! I hope your break works out!! I wish you lived close-by, we could take turns watching each others kids ;-)
As soon as I found out
I was really excited because we weren't planning on having a second child so as soon as I found out I told everyone. Thankfully all went well. I would think it would be up to the individual. My friend never told anyone until she was 5 months or so along because she had suffered a miscarriage earlier and was having some symptoms that she was worried about.
found these...
Nestle chocolate (like chocolate milk)
Neopolitan ice cream
nachos (don't know how much kiddies will like those though)
I never found out as a kid.
I guess I was really lucky, because no other kids ever told me about Santa and I never questioned it with my parents. I guess I knew at a certain age, but I don't recall what age it was (probably well into my teens).
My kids are 14, 10, and 8 and they all still believe. They tell me that some of their friends say Santa doesn't exist, but they don't believe their friends. My kids think it's sad that they don't believe in Santa.
I don't think kids need to be told about Santa. At some point they'll figure it out on their own, if not now then when they have their own kids!!!
I think we found it...
Thank you to all of you who shared some great ideas. As many of you I considered the baby monitors, however, I was trying to think of all the "what-if's" and was worried that if she fell going down the hall to the bathroom in the middle of the night, she might not be close enough to a monitor in a nearby room to make enough "noise" to get our attention, especially considering she is still somewhat short of breath following the surgery..might not have enough wind in her to be able to yell out for help. I did find what I think we need and am going to RadioShack tomorrow to check it out. It had some great reviews from people that have purchased it for much the same reason..to alert someone else in the house instead of a pricey call center..however, does still give her the cability of reaching 911 if we happen to not be home at the time. Thanks again for everyone who took the time to post a response. If the product below (I hope the link works) is not what we need we will look further into some of the other posts. And if anyone else out there finds themselves or a family member in the same situation (we will hope not), then this might be something to keep in mind.
Wish you all a very merry Christmas with your families.

I FOUND IT....Thanks for your help!!
I went back to Google and typed in toothpaste commercials. it took going through a couple pages, but I came across a Rembrandt toothpaste site and someone else mentioned the hot and steamy commercial. The song is *Waterfall* by Griffin House! Guess what I am buying this afternoon!
so thanks again for the suggestion. I never would have found it otherwise! yippee
this is what I found about
I googled posttubal ligation syndrome and found this info...hope it helps. I have heard some doctors refer to posttubal syndrome when talking about a patient's heavy menses after a TL...just something to think about. I wasn't aware of this when I had mine 8 years ago, but boy believe me, if I had known, there's no way I would have had it done...
A study in Britain followed 374 posttubal patients and found that 43% had subsequent gynecological treatment for such conditions as heavy menstrual bleeding, menstrual disturbances requiring hormonal treatments, cervical erosion, ovarian tumors, and recanalization of the fallopian tubes requiring a second operation.
Another British study of tubal ligation found a 40% increase in menstrual blood loss; 26% of the group experienced increased menstrual pain. Women who had used the Pill before their tubal ligation reported more of these complaints than other patients.
Re found Dad
You might want to contact him, if for no other reason than family medical history. It is important for all of us to know what kind of illnesses are in our family. For instance, I didn't know until 2 weeks ago that my grandfather had had bleeding ulcers when he was a young man and had to have part of his stomach removed. I found out when the doctor was asking me about family history of ulcers. My mother, all 3 of my brothers, and myself all have had problems with our stomachs with gastritis, reflux, etc. It seems that there is some kind of a hereditary issue; the doctor thinks maybe a hypergastric nerve or somekind of genetic thing. It's something to think about.
Found it!!! Thanks again :) nm

Found out that is exactly what I have, the
Bakelite, 2 braclets and 1 that is ?? Went on line and found out might also have a cameo ring from Mother that could possibly be the same thing. I have an old radio from my father and found that Bakelite used in older radios. Found a pearl pin with gold behind it that could also be worth $$$. The second Tuesday of each month is an antique sellers delight close by my home, loads of stuff including jewelry. I am going there this next time and ask for advice on the price of my items. I definitely will not include these in the community yard sale, figured they were worth something as I knew a little about the older jewelry. I will not sell to the people at the antique place before I get several appraisals. Thanks for all this, otherwise I might have made a BIG mistake!
Not that they have found but
the police, apparently from the bodily fluids they say they have gotten, show she is dead and also apparently showing large quantities of this medicine in the fluids. This is really interesting case.
Found it. Thanks so much for your help.

oh sorry, you already found it....
I jumped the gun - and you already found it - Gibran's On Love. I loved The Prophet back in the late 60s, early 70s.....especially on children...that begins something like this....but it's all I remember....(I can look this one up too) and made me a better parent in the 80s-90s...and right through today.......

I finally found this ghost in another urban legend that went around. The reference to the above message she was called the ghost of Sundarbans, but in another urban legend she is referred to as the Malay ghost. Knew I had seen her somewhere before - but I still believe I've seen her photo in some movie.
found it maybe?

I found some info. for you... sm
Seizures are scary to witness, but sometimes I think they're worse on us than the dogs (unless of course they're having a prolonged, life-threatening seizure).
With idiopathic epilepsy, I don't think the seizure causes them pain, and I seem to remember that a dog is more at risk of secondary injury (like falling and hitting their head, falling into a swimming pool, etc.) than from the actual seizure.
I had a dog with idiopathic epilepsy. She was a fiesty, gorgeous (okay, I'm biased!) dark red and white, blue-eyed Siberian Husky named "Cherokee." I loved her, adored her, and pretty much catered to her every whim (and created a bit of a monster in the process, but I was happy to get to take care of her and spoil her in her old age). She was funny, aloof, dignified, super smart, and, of course, mischievous. Hubby and I still miss her terribly, and we still talk about her hilarious antics. But I digress!
She was 10-11 years old when I adopted her, and I got to have her for 5 years. At first, she was only having a seizure about... twice a month. We worked her up and decided to hold off on meds since the seizures were fairly infrequent. But she pretty quickly started to have them more like... once a week, I think it was? If I remember correctly, my vet said if they are having more than a certain number of seizures a week/month, it's best to but them on meds, so we put her on phenobarbital at that time, twice a day.
The dose was a little too high at first, and it made her a little groggy and caused her to vomit. We lowered the dose a bit, and she was fine - never had another seizure again. Phenobarb is pretty inexpensive, but not w/o potential side effects to the liver. At Cherokee's age, we didn't really worry about that, but maybe that's the reason your vet is taking a "wait and see" approach? Your dog is young, so if she has to be on anti-seizure meds, it will likely be for the rest of her life. Not that I'm trying to discourage you from meds, just saying maybe your vet is thinking about the side effects as a reason to maybe hold off as long as possible.
I also have a Siberian Husky named Alexxa ("Alex" - sometimes pronouced "Owwhh-licks" ;o). She's now 15 years old. She started having seizures at about 1 year of age, but hers are very mild ("partial complex" I think they're called?) She only has one about every 3 months or so, and all that happens is her head has a little tremor to it. If you aren't looking right at her when it happens, you could be right next to her and not even know she's having a seizure. She doesn't even seem to be aware anything is happening. Vet said they might get worse over time, but they haven't, and she's never had to be on medicine for it.
Epilepsy is hereditary in some breeds, but it can happend in any breed or mixed breed of dog.
Here are a couple paragraphs from this site: http://www.asc-cockerspaniel.org/health/news03.asp
>>Epilepsy Treatment
If idiopathic epilepsy is diagnosed, a dog may be treated with anti-convulsant drugs such as phenobarbital or potassium (or sodium) bromide. Since neither of the drugs is without side effects, the veterinarian and owner might choose to wait until seizures become more frequent or prolonged before starting an epileptic dog on them.
Phenobarbital was more effective than bromide in eliminating and shortening the duration of seizures. Thus, for many dogs, phenobarbital may be the first choice for an anti-seizure medication. Though the study did not look at long-term effects of using either drug, phenobarbital can damage the liver with prolonged use. Also, phenobarbital more so than bromide interacts with many other drugs. For that reason, bromide might be a better first choice for older dogs or those on other drugs, Boothe says. >>
Sorry for the length of this. (I simply must take any opportunity to talk about my dogs. LOL)

Found my real Dad.
I was born in 1982 and was raised by my mom and FINALLY found my dad after years of searching. He lives in Houston. I don't want to just show up out of the blue and say dad, here I am. I have his address and phone number. Mom says that I shouldn't contact him, he walked out on her after I was born, but I want to know what he's like.
I guess he went to a lot of trouble to start a new life somewhere else, got remarried, had other kids. In all these years he hasn't made an effort to contact me, but I still want to meet him. I hear his wife doesn't want me around, but she can't stop me from seeing my dad. Still, I don't want to make any waves. What should I do.
Found help in magnesium-sm
Several sources - including an MD on the Today show - advocate taking 500-750 mg of magnesium just as you are ready to lie down. I have found it a lifesaver. I was sleeping in 2 hours snatches - now I sleep wonderfully. It is listed in several books on menopause. Benadryl leaves me feeling hung over.
No idea what they found in the car - sm
I presume pot, but who knows, theye did not elaborate. It was just kind of funny (ironic anyway); they were calling it the drug car. Well someone's butt is in a sling anyway; they don't fool around and that is how it should be. I find it nice to know (though it was a pain) that they do such a thorough investigation for employment at the public schools (criminal background check, you are fingerprinted and investigated; drug and alcohol tested; filled out a zillion forms or so it seems; complete and thorough physical too which as to be done every year).
Same problem here.....think I have found
I tried every nice smelly detergent out there and those without any scent but the other day, I overheard a lady in the detergent isle telling someone her sister recommended she use Arm and Hammer detergent, and that it was the best she had used for getting out smells. So I tried the A&H Essentials 2x concentrate. It has plant-based soaps, no dyes, no phosphoates, no bleaches, no pertroleum-based cleaner. I gave it a try and put color-safe bleach in with the towels (not regular bleach). They have smelled so fresh I couldn't believe the difference. My 21 year old even noticed his towels smelled better. It has worked for me!
Found this on the 'Net sm
Right click on the desktop, go to Properties. Go to the Settings tab, then the Advanced button and Video adapter tab. See if there's a "Rotation" setting. Some New video cards allow the display to be rotated to accommodate flat-panel monitors.
and another suggestion
Should your screen rotate on you try pushing: ctrl, alt, up arrow key. Push all 3 down at the same time.
So I'm behind I guess - they found her??
