Also avoid products with lanolin

Posted By: annabanana on 2009-02-10
In Reply to: Funny you mentioned tocopheryl acetate - ItchyMT

which can aggravate eczema.  It's another common ingredient in lotions.

Curel original has neither lanolin nor vitamin E.

Best to avoid sun if on any antibiotics
nm
I manage to avoid most of them.
no way
I avoid them like the plague
Emotional vampires I call them - they drain you completely!
and avoid the mall
the snobs will not be reformed.
avoid the mall? Was that a
swine flu post?
To avoid this, I take an over-the-counter
supplement:

Fishoil + vit D + vit A,

all in one capsule.

The reson that your husband is deficient in vit D, although he gets a lot of sunshine mightt be that he is deficient in calcium.
The body needs to get enough calcium to be able to absorb vit D, and vice versa.
Hard to avoid when you live here though - sm
It is all around us here, between the headlines/front pages of the Richmond-Times Dispatch and many people where VT hats, sweatshirts, T-shirts, etc. I see it all around me everywhere I have gone this week. I feel bad for the families of everyone who was affected by this horrible crime. It has everyone on edge around here, a school on the west side arrested a kid yesterday who brought an unloaded handgun to school (not too bright obviously), my kid's school had an "incident" involving a suspicious package yesterday and called in the cops for it, another one on the west side called the cops when they saw 2 guys in camoflage with rifles near the school (they were turkey hunting). The news last night was nothing but false alarms and candle light vigils, yes, it does get a bit depressing but people do need to be more aware and not be afraid to speak up and maybe be wrong (or right) about something they see that they think is not right/suspicious. VT is going to have lots of fallout from this from law suits to people pulling their kids out of school, and a good hard look at why this kid was still at their school though it was known he had serious psych problems, that is the biggest question of them all and their hesitancy in acting is the biggest tragedy of all of this. People have to be so politically correct and dot all the i's and t's in order to cover their butts that they forget that sometimes they just need to act, and act quickly, then go back and do all the justification. There were a million warning signals about this guy but they just swept it under the rug because no one wanted to the the fall/bad guy in dealing with this nut case. The whole thing just stinks.
Why avoid Banfield? We took our kitten there for

I will try to avoid BEING on the phone when he walks in and if he
comes in while I am on the phone I release myself from the phone call just out of courtsey. My friend does the same thing. However, I am not afraid to talk on the phone while my husband is here. My girlfriend and I go for weeks without talking due to busy schedules, and once we find the time, we are on the phone for no less than a hour, usually more!!!
My family tends to avoid funerals. Instead, several
cremated, and at an appropriate time, their ashes are spread somewhere they really loved being. My dad's were scattered over the ocean. I wasn't able to go, (only 4 spaces on the boat, and my older 1/2 brother (1 of us 6 kids) wanted to go, so I stayed home. Still, I liked it this way because I feel my grief is private - I don't want to put it on public display at a funeral. Also, every time I look at the ocean, a stream, rain, etc., it's kind of nice to know that my dad is part of it.
Jesus and God would *embrace* sinners, not avoid them--sm
We are ALL sinners. No one is perfect, no not one, according to the Bible. No one is saying you have to associate with them, but if God can forgive them of their sins, why can't you? HE will judge them when the time comes. It is not up to you to determine when and if that happens. God bless you.
Agree, have one - avoid using it sometimes because it really is a pain to clean!!!
but do people really not clean it each time? Ewwwww. Gross. :)
First, avoid credit cards, charging....
Try not to use plastic if you possibly can because you'll never catch up. Don't buy anything you don't absolutely need. Make do with food you can prepare yourself. Don't go out to eat. Don't be afraid to ask for help, not money, but help with children, etc., so you won't get stressed out. Most of all, don't let the kids see you depressed, they feel it and get scared. Google for help, such as making your own Play Doh, recipes, help with just about anything, you would be surprised at what you can find out. Just be careful you don't get involved on the Net with wrong people. I watch CNN or CNBC because I want to know what's going on, you HAVE to know so you'll be aware of changes coming. I don't own stock but I want to know what's going on with the banks, etc., so I can avoid making mistakes. Suze Orman said on one show that you should live happily in a shack rather than over your head. On another program, she stated she was building a new home in South Africa. I used to follow her lead, but now I only listen to her when it comes to paying off credit cards, otherwise she doesn't walk in our proverbial shoes. You have to be informed, even if it hurts. Making lots of mac and cheese. I think a lot of this expensive organic stuff is totally overblown. Don't use Starbucks when McDonalds will do; better yet, don't go there at all, stay home! Just my humble opinion, less is more, family is all that counts, don't scare the kids! Leave your 401 alone, it WILL come back, don't despair, it will repair.
I avoid Michael Moore and his "documentaries" whenever possible, BUT
I will watch this movie, I promise.

I don't believe Mr. Moore's beaming portrayal of the European and Canadian health care systems is completely accurate. I have a number of Canadian friends who have described the system as chaotic and overwhelmingly dangerous and dysfunctional. The wait lists for some routine or non-emergency procedures can be literally months long.

I'm an RN and have worked with Canadian nurses who said they crossed the border because they can't earn a competitive wage in their own country. One of my patients (a Canadian now living in the US) had the misfortune of having a heart attack while visiting relatives in BC, and by his own account he had to lie on a gurney in the hallway of the ER for 48 hours while receiving only intermittent treatment. My girlfriend told me pregnant women there don't get epidurals during labor because there is never time or an anesthesiologist available to administer them.

None of this excuses the health care crisis in the United States, but it should cause us to question whether adopting a national plan is truly the answer to our problems. I just know I don't want Canada to be our model.
Anything you think you can avoid by home schooling, not getting birth control, etc
for your children, talking incessantly about all the no-nos associated with premarital sex, etc will more than likely fall on deaf ears when it comes to children. I did live in a really big city and regardless of small or large, the girls are maturing much earlier and a lot involved in sex earlier than we as parents would like to believe. You can give a child talk after talk but restrictions, talking, home schooling, etc only goes so far with growing kids. You cannot protect your kids like you would really like to.
Thanks for the "inside scoop"! I'll avoid Sears. nm

It's awful! I used to live in NY. Avoid it at all cost on Black Friday!

I wish they'd make a board for ESL/illegal alien opinions so I can avoid it.

Have you tried CET products? sm
My Siberian Husky, Wiley, had enamel hypoplasia, so I always had to take good care of his teeth. It was diagnosed when he was 5 yrs of age. He had a particularly severe case, and I could probably write a book about all our dental adventures over the years (x-rays and cleanings every 6 months, extractions, root canals, malformed roots, reabsorption of the root canals many years later so they had to be removed...)

Anyway, the vet said I needed to brush his teeth *every* day, w/o fail. My heart sank when I heard this, because Wiley was, shall we say... 'spirited' and I thought there was NO WAY he was going to let me brush his teeth.

Fortunately, I found that he really loved the poultry flavored toothpaste for dogs (sounds disgusting, doesn't it?) made by C.E.T. The best price I found was here: http://www.fuzzytummy.com/ (Click on 'shop' under where it shows *C.E.T. Dental Products for Cats and Dogs* then click on 'Best to Brush' and scroll down to C.E.T. Oral Hygiene Kit for Dogs.)

I would buy 3 kits at a time of the toothbrush and toothpaste, to save on shipping. I never had a problem brushing his teeth when I used the poultry flavored. I tried using malt flavored once, and he didn't like it as much, and he fought me a little bit. I also tried mint flavored, but he didn't like that one AT ALL, and I didn't get much brusing done, so I didn't use mint again.

Brushing is the best, but if your dog just will not cooperate with brushing, C.E.T. also makes a rinse that you squirt around the gumline - very easy to do but Wiley didn't like it. It seemed to taste bad to him.

C.E.T. also makes dental chews with enzymes in them that help clean the teeth. (They make products for cats too, though I would definitely not want to try to brush a cat's teeth! LOL)

There are other products I've seen (try Foster's and Smith - online) for keeping their teeth clean that you can just add to your dog's water bowl, but I don't know how well they work. (Still, I suppose that would be better than nothing?)

Good luck!

As Seen on TV Products - anybody?

Thought we could pool our opinions on the ones we have tried for others to see what works before we make that purchase.

I tried the green bags that slow the ripening process and keep foods fresher longer.  THEY WORK.  Kept bananas twice the amount of time and they tasted fresh too.

Anybody?

Have you tried their products?
That would be great if it really tastes like bacon. It would help poor DH who isn't allowed to eat real bacon anymore and misses it terribly.
Aside from whatever products you use
If you use a ceramic hair straightener, it works wonders!
Leapfrog products.
I just have to say how wonderful the people at Leapfrog are.  My son has a Leapster and loves it, but it is less than a year old and it stopped turning on.  Leapfrog sent us a new one, just like that.  After they realized I had tried all their troubleshooting techniques, they sent a new one free of charge.  They obviously stand by their products!!
Buy their products faithfully... sm
email me if you want further info - not trying to recruit you... just will give you an idea of some of the products I really enjoy. I'm in it because I love the products - they're awesome.
awesome products
Just wanted to say thanks for trying to recruit me, but I am already in Melaleuca and I just wanted to tell you that I think these are also wonderful products and I buy them faithfully also, and I have to say that my favorite product is the laundry detergent. It gets my husbands greasy work clothes clean with just one squirt of detergent.
Best fake tan products?
Does anyone have a good experience with any of the fake tanning products out there?  I want something easy to apply that looks as natural as it can be out of the bottle.  Thanks so much!
Nice to know products out there sm
Some meticulous women have a problem because of medication, etc. It's nice to know what is out there without asking someone. I do agree that it can be sickening. I get embarrassed when children are around, I wish they would limit these products to nighttime viewing. I hate having to explain my way around what wonderful things warm lubricants and Cialis can do for "the right moment." I agree in a way but a few things I have seen on TV have enlightened me as to what's out there now, more than in the old days. I bathe daily in nice hot water but I am grateful to know I could possibly have a problem. Dryness can also cause this problem as well as medications such as some cancer drugs, yeast infections, etc., and I have seen the best of the best, cream of the crop socialites who could use one of these products as they are not aware they have an obvious odor about them. Knowledge is power but spare our kids, please!

It is in Kashi, Kroger, Keebler, Brachs candies, nearly any food you can think of. Check the list out. These two peanut plants have not passed inspections in over four years. They were roach and mold infested and the CEO took the 5th today when questioned by congress.
I cut out about 90% of dairy products. sm
The smell isn't the problem really, I wish it was if you know what I mean! The air needs to go! The sitting makes me feel like I am going to explode like everything is "tight". I am short and have abotu 35 extra pounds and tend to gain it around the middle and I know that doesn't help.
Arbonne Int'l products are wonderful...
I used MK for almost 20 years and never thought I would use anything else, but I recently tried Arbonne Int'l products and my face feels wonderful.  Do a search for their website.
Does anyone know about Swanson Health Products?
I received a catalog of their products today (herbs, vitamins, minerals, etc.) and their prices seem really good.  I was wondering how good their product is.  Do they put a lot of "extra" ingredients in their herbs or do they offer the "real" thing?  I know that there are some companies out there that their herb/vitamin supplements are not worth taking because there is so little of the real thing in their capsules.  How do you rate Swanson?
I love her products, but I don't use Reclaim (sm)
I haven't ordered any lately -thanks for the reminder! Her moisturizer is so good that when I stopped using it for a while, people started asking me what was wrong - did I feel bad, etc? LOL. Oh and the enzyme mask is amazing!! There is also a skin tightening serum that works really well. It's all good stuff. You can become a member and get three products a month at a really good price.
Health and beauty products
I always like to hear about good reviews of products because sometimes it can be overwhelming with all the choices. I just thought we could all share about one or two of our favorites - hair or makeup. I personally love L'Oreal volumizer mascara and most Lancome makeup even though it's pricey. I'm looking for a really good shampoo and conditioner though - anyone?
hair care products
I would have to agree with the Aveda statement.  Their products are pricey but you use minimal amounts of the product to get the job done.  Their shampoos are amazing and they have leave-in stuff for styling that is incredible.  I have 2-process color on my hair and I find their products to be the best, hands down.  I also use their tinted moisturizer and tourmaline products .. I have seen a huge difference in my skin and hair .. it is like anything else I suppose - you get what you pay for.
American Girl Products
Thanks for all the help you can give me. It looks like this is going to be a project to bring the collection in under budget by Christmas but I just can't afford to buy new and Santa won't be able to help out this year.
re steroids in dairy products,
are these the growth hormones you are talking about? I guess the only way to avoid them is via farm your own or organic, yes?
We keep no peanut products in our home
Hubby only eats the natural peanut butter and it tastes yucky. Other than that, nothing else in the house contains peanut butter and he had his way before the scare.
I'm currently avoiding ALL products with peanuts in them,
as the recall just seems to keep getting more and more expansive. At the beginning of it I bought some chocolate-covered cookies with peanut-flavored middles that were going to go on a picnic with me, to share with others. Instead, I bought different cookies to share with my friends. (I have few enough friends, without poisoning them to death!) Still, I couldn't throw away the package, and since they were generic, without a particular brand, I finally took a chance and ate one bite of one myself. They were fine, and needless to say, I ended up polishing off the entire package.
Question about sugar free products

I love sugar free stuff (soda, kool-aid, etc), but i've heard that phenylkeroturic (not sure if i spelled it right) wasn't good for you.  have any of you heard this or know of a place to find out more info?  i'm going to try google.  my kids like the sugar free kool-aid and i don't want to give it to them if it's not good.

thanks

microfiber products.....just discussed, see archives...

Typical multilevel - good products but...

high in price.  Melalueca is just like every other multilevel company.  The people at the top make a lot of money.  The ones at the bottom don't.  I never liked trying to sell things, especially multilevel programs, to my friends.  :)

We use Terro Ant Killer products, you get buy at WM or local Co-Op. nm

American Girl Doll Products

I know this is general gab, but does anyone have any American Girl stuff to sell.  I am trying to put together a collection for Christmas but can't afford anything but second-hand prices.  E-Bay is way expensive too.  Thanks!

It is the steroids they are inducing into diary products sm
that are believed to be causing early menstrual cycles, early puberty, etc.

It is definitely way early. I have 3 girls. Oldest started at mid-13, two others are 12 and 11 and have not started. I believe the larger structured girls and more athletic girls will start sooner. My girls are very petite and not athletic. Mine DD likes the Kotek minis. She hates wings so avoid those. They have some with pretty blue flowers on the package and those are her favorite. Someone will need to teach her how and when to know to change, how to dispose properly, etc. Heating pad, Tylenol, or Motrin if she needs them. I have found most young ones do not experience a lot of pain with the cramps or barely cramp at all but they are all different.
