When is your son's birthday?  Just curious if it's the same day as my daughter's.

conceived my child 9 years ago tonight --

Remember the Y2K scare???  Everyone was in such a tizzy that New Year's Eve back in 1999.  Well, the world survived.  I always state that I was the only one who was not Y2K compliant :)

What a blessing, what a great gift, what a joy... most blessed occasion in my life.  I worked until midnight, the world did not crumble, so I got dolled up and went out.  Then proceeded to get myself pregnant (which was not my plan at all).  Sixteen days later, I knew something was up.  Nine months later, my beloved child entered this world, which is now a better place because he's in it (which I tell him every night before he falls asleep).

I tell him this is a special day because it's the anniversary of his creation (he knows that's when my egg was fertilized -- keeping sex ed age appropriate).  We're going out to his favorite burger joint tonight -- date night for me and my boy.  Just waxing reminiscent.  Full of love, joy and hope for our New Year.  Thank you, dear friends, for always being here for me.  Bless you all.  Feel the love!!!

How did everyone celebrate New Years?

I'll tell you how I celebrated (not that anyone cares LOL).  Went to bed at 7 (usual time cause I work from 3 a.m.). Husband took the kids to McDonalds.  Husband went food shopping. I slept through it. I woke up for Law and Order marathon stayed up to 11:15, during which I had a bowl of chocolate chunk ice cream  fell asleep. Woke up late for my shift to type. And I have a hangover HEADACHE! What?? he he.  You know, not a bad way to spend New Years.  Of course the husband was not too happy, probably had other ideas.. Shame on me.

Hope to hear how everyone's new year celebration went. Let us know!

PS: To me New Years Eve is a holiday much like Valentine's day, etc. I never cared for these kinds of greeting card holidays and would rather ignore them. Aren't I still a scrooge even after Christmas? The HolidayMT has struck again! LOL.

I am 60 years old today. Boo Hoo

Your OP says today, later post says 2 years ago....
Plain and simple, you were out of line correcting the woman, whether it was this morning or 2 years ago (whichever version you're going by at this moment).

Just wrong.

Be thankful you (supoosedly) have superior language skills that permit you to be an MT.

Your daughter was me 4 years ago...

I am only 20 years ago and your daughter sounds exactly like me 4 years ago...

I agree with the above-mentioned posters that you need to get dad involved.  I too knew that I could manipulate my mom but was very afraid of what my father would do.  It's normal for her to say she is going to leave but she won't.  She's just saying that to manipulate you.

AS FOR THE DRINKING: Do not allow this to be acceptable behavior.  I drank as a 16-year-old and my parents tried to ground me, keep me home, etc. and I still went out and did it... guess what, I got a DUI because kids do not use smart judgement when drunk.  I guarantee there is no "safe ride" because she is with other kids who are drinking, and she will never call you for a ride.  My parents were very against teenage drinking and I got into big trouble, I can't imagine what your daughter will do if you let her think that is acceptable.  JMO

The best thing that happened to me was the DUI because I stayed home for 3 months (had no license) and I learned that I did not have to go out every night, that I really wasn't missing anything.  After that, I didn't want to go out except to see a movie or go get dinner.  Maybe the best thing to do is have her stay home for month, only let her go out during day or for a short amount of time and then after that month allow her to go out once a week until she comes home drunk, past curfew or you found out that she was somewhere she was not suppose to be and then have her stay home for two months, then let her go out again until she abuses it, etc.  Eventually, she will either get into trouble and she'll learn that way or she'll learn that she does not need to be out all the time.

Oh, as for her swearing she isn't sexually active, she probably is.  My friend in high school was valedictorian, honor student, everyone thought she was so perfect and even she had sex in high school.  My sister is younger than I am, her friends are your daughter's age, and they were almost all sexually active by 15, sad huh :(

Good luck to you.  I promise it will get better.  My father and I had the worst relationship when I was 16 and now we get along great… there is hope for you and your daughter!

My daughter was 2 to 3 years old, and did not need braces, sm
We took a trip and told her it accidentally got left on the plane. She fussed a bit, but was okay after that. Also, as she grew up and did not need braces. Niece that sucked her fingers (no pacifier) needed braces because of the misalignment it caused to her teeth.
My daughter had done years earlier and
I noticed the other day she looks as though some have started to not be as aligned as they once were. I am hoping she will get a clear one to help realign hers.
My daughter in early school years
wore a size 10 and now grown wears a 12. She is in her 30s and years ago nearly impossible to find shoes that were not old lady types to fit her, at least now you have all kinds to choose from.
My sister lost her daughter to SIDS 7 years ago. (sm)
Of course the calls, cards, and visits were comforting to her but the biggest help was another couple from a surrounding town who had gone through the same thing came into their lives and were a tremendous help. They were strangers to her, but they were able to comfort her and help her through some of the grief process like none of us were able to.

In years later, my sister and her husband had likewise reached out to families that have had a loss to SIDS. Hopefully someone from that organization will reach out to her.

My daughter is 35 years old and has been having pain in left lower abdomen for quite some time . . .

She had a CT with oral and IV contrast and it was normal, but showed she had an enlarged uterus.  Dr. called the next day and said she needs to go for ultrasound.

There is lots of cancer in the family, so my daughter is very concerned.  Can any of you who have experienced this help out here.  Thanks.

celebrate the holidays!
You are a very mature, thoughtful person. Just enjoy the holidays and if he is as mature as you are, it should not matter. Go celebrate!
I celebrate Christmas because...sm
First and foremost Christmas should be about the birth of Jesus. It is very commercialized now though. I do celebrate it because Jesus was born, but I also take part in the commercialism too. I too enjoy the tree and lights, music, food, decorations. I guess you could say in way I celebrate it for all those reasons. But I do realize the most important reason for X-mas.
I do celebrate my successes
Just because I stated what I would have done differently if I had the chance to do it over doesn't mean I don't celebrate my successes in my life. As I stated I had this idea when I was watching The Time Machine. I thought, boy if I could go back in time what is the one thing I'd change. This is the great thing about the mind - it's called imagination. Try it, it's fun. That's how movies, musicals, and stories are made.
Wal-Mart WILL celebrate Christmas...
Look it up on CNN.com.  Made the decision today.   MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ONE AND ALL!!!
Happy Chanukah to those who celebrate!
Hope everyone has a great holiday season whether you celebrate Ramadan, Chanukah, Christmas, or Kwanzaa, and an even better 2008.....
I celebrate being single and when I'm pregnant.
I'm not 16, however. Her sister is young and made a mistake. I'm not going to judge her ability to parent based on what Britney has done.
Invite everyone to your house to celebrate
your "first" family Thanksgiving together. For Christmas, you could invite them over, OR tell them you have having your own Christmas together and then just stop by for a while at each. You don't have to eat at each place just because you go over.
Did that report say how many people celebrate Christmas...
for religious reasons as opposed to it being just a secular holiday for them?
I dont think people who celebrate Christmas should have
to work so you can buy groceries when you want them. I'm sorry, but that is like saying auto mechanics should stay open on Christmas Day so you can get your car fixed at your convenience or that the Post Office should stay open on Christmas Day so you can buy stamps when you want them. I respectfully disagree with your opinion, but it is your opinion and you are entitled to it. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
If you celebrate, that would make a great Christmas card! (nm)

Hollywood always seems to celebrate single women being pregnant
I am just wondering how they are going to react to Britney's with her 16 year old self and being unmarried and pregnant. Gosh, Britney is going to have to think of something to override that and get her share of more attention.
Ho, ho, ho, Merry Christmas!! and Happy Hannukah!! Let's celebrate!
The rest of you can come to the party. You don't even have to bring anything! We love everybody! If you stay home, that's okay too, we love you. Merry Christmas again!
What do you think of the quality of clothing today. What I looked at shopping today in nice stores
the stuff wasnt even sewn properly.  Do you have to look at everything you buy or just hope it lasts a year.
Added fresh chives today. to the egg today.
and a SMIDGE of soy sauce.
Daughter's phone is daughter's responsibility. Valuable lesson learned.
It should be between the daughter and the friend if the friend is going to pay any of the fees. They are teenagers, not preschoolers.
My husband is 7.5 years younger. Been together almost 20 happy years...nm

My feelings; people shacking up together for years and years
and then all of a sudden deciding to get married don't need a thing, obviously. A shower should not even be given. I lived with my now husband a while (nowadays who doesn't!) before we married and I also had been married before years ago but he was not....so of course HIS mom wanted a shower. I told her absolutely not unless it was just the immediate family, his mom, sisters, etc, more like a celebration/get together. And so that's what we did. Showers are tacky, period. Unless it's a couple of young kids getting married straight out of the house and that doesn't happen much anymore.
Been with a man 13 years older, now with a man 4 years younger.
Younger is better, at least in my case ;)
Sorry, meant 75 cents. Still, that was years and years ago.
xx
I studied to be a scopist years and years ago
Back in the early 1990s I took a course called Note reader Scopist. They read court reporter notes (those long skinny papers that looks like a cash receipt) and types them into documents. I had found the course through something called At Home Professions but just didn't finish it because it was too expensive for me. But I am familiar with them and even found my book from the first course I took. Looking back I think it would have been a blast if I had kept up with it.

It is definitely legitimate. A lot has changed since the early 90s, so I'm not too familiar with the industry now. I do remember what was really weird was it didn't take a lot for me to learn it. For instance I could look at a line of court notes and see something that looked like: NV p srn - and I seemed to know exactly what it said. Just weird. My DH used to say that I understood it because I was an alien and my ship crashed in Roswell. HA HA HA Anyway...that's what I know about it. But if you Google note reader scopist or at home professions i'm sure you could probably find a lot of info.
I have been vegetarian on/off for 35 years, was vegan for about 5 years sm
not that hard. Right now, I am having so many issues with food allergies and celiac disease, having to give up nightshade veggies...nothing left to eat. I am eating some meat now, but not when the gastroparesis sets in!

Being vegan is not hard...unless you are a celiac. This is how I figured out the celiac part because so many of the meat analogs and vegan packaged foods use gluten for the protein and I got really sick from it. I gave up all the premade things and the whole grains with gluten and I was fine.

There is vegan and then there is VE-GAN. By definition, vegans don't wear, use or consume anything that is derived of animals...no leather shoes, most shampoos and toothpastes are off the list, as are deodorants. No wool or silk. Anything with soap usually has animal byproducts. It is very involved and rather difficult to do.

Giving up meat, eggs and dairy is no big deal, except for cheese. You hear that ad about "comfort proteins" in a baby formula and there is such a thing. Mother's milk, be it human, cow, goat, whatever...contains a chemical that triggers the release of endorphins in the brain so that feeding feels good in more ways than one. The purpose of this is ensure that the nursed young want to nurse and thrive. Human milk has a lot of these, so does cow's milk and cow juice triggers the same reaction in the adult human brain. Cheese is concentrated milk and therefore these chemicals are also concentrated. As a result, cheese is an addictive substance. This is the hardest thing to give up when going vegan. Vegan cheese substitutes are nasty and they don't melt. If a dairy-free cheese melts, it contains casein, an animal protein and not vegan.
I studied this years and years and years ago
Most definitely is legitimate. In the late 1980s I studied to be a note reader scopist through a group called At Home Professions. I loved it, but unfortunately could not continue due to no funds. It was reading the court reporters notes which looked like a grocery receipt with a bunch of letters scattered on it. The weird thing was I found it extremely easy. For instance I would see a line that looked like: av e cr, and for some reason I would know what it said. My DH told me that's because I'm an alien and my ship landed in Roswell. HA HA. Well I know that a lot has changed, after all it's been over 20 years since I took the first course and know a lot of it is computerized now, but it is most definitely legitimate and I've heard people like to do it. I think I remember one of the courses was in medical terminology and another course was in legal terminology. Should be able to find a lot of it on google, or maybe go to your local college if they offer it and talk to an instructor.
I agree - a mother is a mother and a daughter is a daughter for life sm
despite the problems they had, which i truly believe stem for anna's drug problems. obviously her mom wasn't too bad or she would not have raised daniel for a while. i think the mother wants her buried in Texas so the grave will be close enough that she can go visit it without having to come up with expenses of going to the bahamas to get there. although i contradict that too in poor anna needs to be buried with her son.
This has happened for years and years, where have you been?
Frank Sinatra, Elvis, the Beatles, and on and on. This person is acting very normal like the age she is. You would have to have been under a rock to think differently, like this was an abnormal behavior....
Lost my mom 23 years ago and dad 18 years ago.
My son was not even 1 when my mom died....she was only 50.  My dad died at age 59.  So even though I feel your pain....I would have been very grateful to have them into their 80's.  I guess we take what we get and be thankful.  Sometimes it is hard though.
I was married for 13 years and 2 years
after my divorce I met the most incredible man. He was also divorced, we both have 2 kids, and though we are not married, we have been together for 9 years. They are still out there, you may have to go through a few marginal ones before you find him, but they are out there and available.
How is she today?
nm
She seems better today

She seems better today, sort of.  She hasn't eaten anything since 12 or so last night, but she didn't puke or have diarrhea that I've found anyway.  I'm going to call the vet and see about doing some IV fluids if she won't drink something pretty soon.  She's just all sunken in looking from dehydration.

She is a very high stress dog.  She's trying to sit even closer to me than usual and even tried to get under my legs while I'm typing but I kept stepping on her.  I'm hoping this isn't going to be a long term issue for her    Poor dog.  I'm wondering if maybe this is a recurrent thing and she was so stressed by her prior unknown situation that is what caused part of her being so skinny when we first got her.

how are you today?
nm
From what I saw today, I do not think
Noah will make it. Does not look good. Not sure about Jack since he is trapped with the methane gas and it looks like he was injured too after getting Sharon and Nick out. What a story line. I guess some people want to leave or are being fired.
I have today off....
Just started FT with a new company last week.  I don't get paid, but I don't care.  I actually have a holiday off without having to use precious PTO, like at my old job at the Q.  I'm doing laundry this morning and then having lunch at my sister's with  whole family.  Can't wait!
Today is my day off......
normally I try to catch up on cleaning, laundry, errands, etc. Spent 2 1/2 hours at the doc's office...DD has strep. Sigh! Life is what happens when you are busy making other plans.
It was on today. sm
Only a couple of mins on the Toys for Tots.  Most of the program was devoted to the studio audience, victims of the fire in the Santa Monica Mountains.  Lots of gifts.  Only a few mins devoted to Toys for Tots, but the kids looked really happy.  Merry Christmas to them.
So OP, how are you today?? Are you ok? nm

Now, maybe, maybe not...44 for me but today...
I feel like I am maybe 64? Been working since approximately 3 a.m. and still a couple of reports left to do before a close my eyes tonight.  So, what did you do for your B-day....
Got ours today
I'm happy about it, but it's going to help pay off a credit card so I'm trying not to think of what I really wanted to do with it.
Sorry-- Not with it today-- been ill
Please forgive me.  I've been fighting a bug all week.
I saw it today
I thought it was absolutely the sweetest thing and it made me cry a little tear also.  It was heartwarming.
What I am doing today
I had meant to buy my husband and my daughter some cheese and crackers (they are getting other things) and almost completely forgot so went to the store earlier this morning and got 2 of each. Straightened up in the house some as having company over tomorrow. I am going to fix a picnic ham but hubby wants to be here when I start that later on today (he does not trust me much in the kitchen- goody for me). Much of the day is pure leisure- no more shopping, just relaxing. Nothing special for later on tonight.
I took her to the vet today...sm
I wanted to make sure of what the problem was. I took her and he examined the leg and said that she sprained it. He said there was no serious problem in it. He said that with her weight, she is a beagle who weighs 40 pounds, that by jumping on the couch and bed she probably sprained it. She is pretty fat to be jumping around. I said well have you ever seen a beagle this fat and he said oh yes I have seen quite a few. He said she is spayed isn't she. I said yes and that is when she got so fat after spaying her. He said sometimes that happens. The medicine starts with a P but it is the same basically as Rimadyl. It is for pain/inflammation. He said give her one every other day for 2 weeks. She had been taking one every day. He said since she seems to be getting better change it to every other day and then in two weeks just stop giving it. She is back to her old self so I guess her fat butt sprained her knee jumping off the bed or couch. God love her.
my b-day today
Today was my b-day. 49 years old. I handle my b-days really well. As my grandma used to say one year closer to taking a nice long nap. HA HA. B-days don't really hit me, but sometimes I just feel like I'm falling apart. Losing hair, now have rosacea (at least I think its rosacea), and these whiteheads like I had when I was a teenager, and i've got one of those nice nasty yeast infections. Started taking Monostat and now I've got my period. Then I go to the eye doctor and he sits back and says - so tell me about your family history of eye diseases. First thing I think of oh, this doesn't sound good (dad has macular degeneration - he said right away I don't have that). Well I'm on the watch list for cataracts. He said I'm not old enough for that, but it's upper high pressure (or something like that). Oh and I've got some membrane dystrophy syndrome where at night time the membrane doesn't attach to where it is suppose to attach and causes me eye pains for about 10-15 minutes every morning. Oh isn't life grand! javascript:editor_insertHTML('text','');
