We had new building mgrs. who moved in with 2 cats. I had lived here 12 years with no pets, per my rental agreement. They said that due to the dot-com bust, with half the building empty, the owners had said to allow pets and get the units rented. I asked if I could get a cat & they said yes. About 6 mos. later, they were suddenly changing their story and saying they suddenly weren't allowed again. I said, "too bad, I've already got the cat."

I did do a little research, and if I'm not mistaken, there is a fuzzy clause (no pun intended!) in tenant law that if someone "lives openly" with a pet in a no-pet building for a certain amount of time (4 mos? I forget), and the managers are aware of it but do nothing about it, that they can then no longer evict you or force you to get rid of it.

Meanwhile, should I ever be handed that choice, I'll just move. I just can't fathom taking either of my little fuzz-faces to the pound....
