AA/NA

In Reply to: Any advice about AA? - CS

First, I'm so sorry to hear about your sister. I assume that her fiance is still drinking.

Ok,I'm not here to give a sermon, just some advice. I feel qualified as I have 30+ years clear; I prefer NA over AA simply because alcohol was not my drug of choice. That being said, the 2 programs are basically the same. My husband died a few years ago and he had 20+ years clean in AA. These programs DO WORK, and I hate to contradict central office in her post, but super duper nice people do attend. In my home group, we have lawyers, doctors, many many nurses, respiratory therapists, teachers, college professors, etc. Addiction touches every profession and economic status that there is. The best friends I've ever had in my life are in NA/AA. They don't want anything from you, just to help when they can.

AA/NA are spiritual, not religious programs. We definitely belive in a Higher Power who most of us call God. But, it doesn't matter, our Higher Power plays a major part in our lives. Since we are a spiritual program, that means we are a very loving and accepting program.

Please have your sister (any maybe yourself due to your dad's history) get in contact with Alanon and Adult Children of Alcoholics ASAP. Both will help her to understand what is happening now and what happened in the past. Yes, they will help take care of her children, if that is what is needed, and they will help take care of her too, if needed. We are very loving and caring people who only try to carry the message of addiction and that we do recover.

If you have any ?s about the program or anything else, please feel free to email me.
