I was born in 1960 but sounds like we had the same upbringing
I would have loved to live in the 50s as a teen/adult. Sounds like we came from the same neck of the woods. I too had a curfew of 10pm on weekends with a 5 minute leeway. After 5 minutes I was grounded for 2 weeks (and this was high school and I dare not argued back). If I ever dared talk back to my parents (well actually I did once and only once, we lived by the belt. We got it when we were bad, but not to the point of abuse - it was to learn a lesson and we did). We had a TV with 12 channels (actually 9 because we didn't get channels 8, 9 and 11), and we didn't have a remote. My parents idea of a remote was telling my sister and me to change the channel. No dishwasher (again my moms dishwashers was my sister and me). I spent Sundays doing church activities, Saturdays was Girl Scout activities. We too didn't have computers. Closest was an Atari ping pong we played on the TV. My mom was a ballerina, tap, jazz dancer and spent a lot of time teaching us. We spent nights inventing word games, drawing, making candles, quilting and other crafts. Hardly watched TV. We just learned how to entertain ourselves. Sis and I would spend a lot of times in the woods and outside. I'd give everything I have today (cable, computers, etc) to go back in time and do it all again (only in the 40s or 50s would be good).
psycho
Sounds like he is a nut job!!! If he does not stop bugging you I would call the police you don't want to end up in the news for the wrong reason!!
Thank goodness she's getting away from that psycho. nm

I have come to the conclusion that she is psycho!
We don't have kids, but we have 2 dogs and 4 cats and we have changed the lock on the front door, which she had a key to. It's even worse because she only lives about 5 minutes from our house! I really, really want to reply to that email, but I'm not going to. If she does try to contact us again or shows up at our house, we will tell her that we want nothign to do with her and tell her that if she shows up at our house again like this, we will report it to the police department. I'm still in total shock about the comment she made about us "overextending ourselves" and being "finacially irresponsible." That's just ludacris! I have honestly never seen anyone act this psychotic in such a state of desperation!
My mom has had generations of psycho squirrels.
They eat a hole in the porch wood every year. They eat the putty, the paint, the cayenne pepper, the Tabasco sauce, the lemon, the squirrel scoot, the deer scoot and anything else we've ever tried. This has happened for YEARS and nothing works. They don't even really run from us anymore. Squirrels are not our friends. ;-)
I once had a psycho boss at a small community -
hospital I worked at. Our transcription dept. consisted of just 3 of us, and we sat in a far corner of the medical records dept., next to the microfilm guy. The boss ('P'), and I were the only full-time MTs; the other MT only worked half-days, and she and I shared a desk. She worked from 8-12:30, I worked from 1-9:30 pm. This boss gave me the longest, most ridiculous oral 'transcription' test I've ever taken anywhere. Oddly, no typing test. So, I was hired.
The other MT told me no matter what you do, don't do more work than P, or she'll get insanely jealous. ?? So one fateful day, I made the mistake of typing more reports than she did. She changed to several different shades of red and purple, and I never saw anyone's lips get so thin in my entire life! Her mouth became just a pencil-thin straight line. After that day, she made my life a living he11. Always picking apart my work, trying to say I'd skipped out of work early one day and missed the life-flight helicopter bringing patients to the ER. (No, I was there, and I typed their H&P's).
She also had a running feud going on with the entire MR department, and instructed me that I wasn't allowed to speak with ANY of them. I was friends with the microfilm guy, and others in MR, and so I very politely told her that although I wouldn't chit-chat with them while I was WORKING, that what I did on my breaks and my own time was my own business, and that no one tells me who I may or may not associate with.
Would you believe this b___ch would actually feign leaving work for the day (her shift ended at 5 pm), and then would sneak back anywhere from 15 minutes to 5 hours later, just to peep in the window from outside and see if I was talking to anyone? She was a real piece of work, that one.
I eventually took another job (with a service that she occasionally sent our overflow work to). The new boss didn't want me telling her where I was going (which I wouldn't have, anyway - she was a very vindictive person), so when she asked where I was going to, I made up a doctor in the city - an impossible to pronounce, Chinese-sounding name. I told her it sounded sort of like 'Chiaong', but I had no idea how it was spelled. I also told her that because of his very thick accent, he was going to pay me twice what I was making at the hospital. Boy, did she ever turn dark RED when I told her THAT!
A few days later, my other co-worker (obviously on instructions from P), was trying to squeeze the name and address of the new 'doctor' out of me, but I just told her I knew where the building was, but that I'd walked there from an underground parking lot and didn't know the address, just that it was on the 9th floor. I just KNEW P. wanted to find this doctor and try to get the job for herself (which I learned is how she got the MT job at that hospital). So, I'm sure she spent hours perusing the downtown phone book, looking for Dr. 'Chiaong'!!! I also wouldn't have put it past her to go off in search of this mythical medical building I made up.
Sometimes mean people can be fun to jerk around. ;)
well...I am not much for Halloween but...
I am not one for Halloween, never was really into it but...
My son is going as a CIA agent and my daughter is going as a princess (their choice).
Halloween
With October fast approaching I thought I would ask about Halloween costume ideas. What have your kids been in the past? Do you make their costumes or buy them?
We try to make ours but sometimes the characters are easier to buy. Off hand I can think of my favorites...a magician, an alien, a ghost, macaroni and cheese, pop tart.
what are your kids being for halloween?
My kids are too old to go trick-or-treating now, but I'd love to know what your child/children are dressing up as this year. I always loved the creative home-made costumes even though I always seemd to go out and buy them!
Halloween Costumes
My three year old is going as a Unicorn and my 12 year old isn't trick or treating this year, but she's going to take her sister around and share her candy.
where is the halloween spirit???
The person that I rent my house from made me take down my Halloween decorations... to me that's sad!!! all they were was just a pumpkin door cover, funky caution tape on the porch posts, and 3 tiny inflatable pumpkins on string. She said the caution tape made people think it was a crime scene, which is resonable if people were that gullible..... baahalloweenbug! To me it is just a holiday that makes kids happy and that is good enough for me.... HAPPY HALLOWEEN MTs!!!
Talking about Halloween, get this
I was listening to a report yesterday about a school that cannot have Halloween theme nor OMG any Christmas theme and now unable to serve anything pork or pork related on the school menu because it might offend others. This is our country but I thought to myself it is becoming others, not ours anymore. This might sound strange but honest to God I thought this, oh well I am up in age and will not be around for years and years to come so I will not have to hear this for as long as I have been on this earth now. If Americans do not stand up, we are slowly losing our country little by little to others. I do not mind immigration but when I see our beliefs, our holidays, our American way falling by the wayside, it makes me sad. We are being put on the backburner because others might be offended? What gives?
Happy Halloween
I am dressed up as a skeleton, but sadly alot of pitbulls out there are skin & bones w/o dressing up abused by their owners, neglected. We pray for all of the pitbull breed. We also pray that people will come to love & understand this wonderful breed of dogs. For those who hate us out of their own ignorance and lack of understanding, we pray for you.
Happy Halloween
Here is our baby girl (CJs mom)... since the costume had wings she tried it out to see if she could fly LOL
Goodwill Stores & Halloween - sm
Wow.... I just got back from a trip to the local Goodwill Store, and boy, am I ever ready for Halloween! Beginning in October they bring out all their costumes, and costume-worthy, bizarre clothing. Usually I don't get there 'til it's all picked over, but THIS TIME I went early. Sometimes I get stuff just for the material, or the trimmings, and other times I'll see a piece and do some "reverse engineering" on it to turn it into something else. But I don't need to do that this year - everything I found is good to go!
I LOVE Halloween... it's always been my favorite holiday! Can't wait..!
Sister's halloween costume
My twin sister lives 2000 miles away, so it sure is fun to get pictures. This is her Halloween costume this year, which cracked me up.
We may be twins, but apparently we are not identical, because this costume would look a little different on me. So in my reply I said:
In that picture you(r hair) look(s) just like me (mine)!
Why dogs hate halloween

Halloween candy warning
HALLOWEEN CANDY RECALLED
There is a new warning put out by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency....
Sherwood brand Pirate's Gold Milk Chocolate coins are being recalled due to the fact that they contain Mel amine, the ingredient in milk product that has caused many infant deaths in china. These candies are sold at Costco, as well as many bulk and dollar stores. please make sure to check your childrens halloween candy and DO NOT LET THEM EAT THE PIRATE COINS (you know the ones wrapped in the shiny gold foil) and please let other parents know about this!
Wear Halloween masks? sm
Just kiddin'!
Although my boys are older now and seem to "forget" to bring home school fundraising materials, I do remember those days. There were school fund raisers, band fundraisers and Boy Scout Popcorn to sell. I felt like I needed to wear a Halloween mask sometimes, but what I did was to carefully choose which fundraisers my boys would participate in. We knew that Boy Scout popcorn is sold in October/November, so we would not participate in school/band/other fundraisers during that time. Maybe in the spring of the year we would participate. You might just try giving a donation in place of actually selling if your budget permits. For example, if a child is expected to sell $100 dollars in cookie dough of which the school (or whatever) would retain 1/3, then just donate $33 to the school (or whatever).
I am a Baptist and love to decorate for Halloween.
My husband and his family on the other hand don't like Halloween nor the decorations, since he feels that way, he doesn't help me and my daughter decorate. Whatever. We love decorating so we do it anyway. If they don't like it then don't look. It is just a day to have fun and decorate. Some people need to relax a little and let loose.
This just brings it back to the Halloween talk-
We are NOW allowed as adults to wear masks as in covering our face for Halloween- at least in my section of the country. We might be thieves but others can! Love your post, by the way.
In the spirit of Halloween - favorite scary movie?
I'm too chicken to watch scary movies most of the time! I though Sixth Sense was good, but I guessed the ending half way through. Stir of Echoes scared me pretty good. I thought The Ring was horrible until the very end when I just about peed my pants! How about you all?
We're having a big fall/Halloween party on Sunday. sm
I need some great ideas to ask guests to bring - Husband and I are providing the main meal but I'm asking some friends and relatives to bring "side" items. The main dish will be chili dogs. I asked friend to bring a few bags of chips. Anything else interesting a few people can bring to accompany? Not everyone is bringing something. We do this every year, have hay rides, and it lasts all day. We play games and give out prizes. It's a blast. A lot of people from our church will be coming. I'm really not the only one hosting it, but the other hosts need to know what to bring...I can't think of anything interesting besides drinks and chips!
I'm making my famous marshmallow witches again this year and another gal is bringing baby cany apples by scooping out a portion of an apple with a melon thingie and dipping those in caramel. I've never heard of them before but she said they were so cute! What do you creative women think??I need to let my other hostesses know today some time. thanks!!
Any funny/great ideas for couples Halloween costumes?
My 24-year-old DS and his SO have to dress up for a Halloween party. His older brother and his wife are going as Dog and Beth, and 24YO DS is trying to come up with something even better than that. Any ideas out there?
The original Halloween, the original Exorcist and the first Phantasm...
today's are too computer generated and phony. Not enough scare factor for me!
