Where in Upstate NY do you live? I live just outside of Syracuse and we've been buried in snow lately. But I did drive to NYC this weekend, and once I hit Cortland there was no snow anywhere. Everyone be safe.

NY Storm
You're lucky. We have had a couple of feet here, and up in Oswego, I'm sure you've heard 10 feet of snow. Yuck! Be safe tomorrow. Hopefully you won't have to leave the house for anything.
until I was taken out by a storm
I thought only briefly about hurricanes, tornados, etc in other parts of the country. After being without power in below freezing temperatures for over a week after an ice storm that destroyed my trees and messed up my house, I have a new empathy for storm victims. The total lack of control made me realize how much we take for granted. Glad you are okay!
Ice Storm
So I am new to being in a state with cold weather and horrible snow storms. When I say new, I have been here about 10 years but we have only had 1 major ice storm that knocked out power for days. We stayed with my in-laws and it was no big deal. They have generators. Well, now the in-laws already have a family of 5 staying with them so the house is a bit crowded. We are a family of 3.5 ourselves so I would like to avoid that if at all possible. We have a gas stove and would still be able to cook. Also have a gas water heater but our water runs on a well with a pump so that is limited along with toilet use. We have gas central heat but I'm assuming with no electricity the air won't get pushed through the house?
My question is - do any of you have great ideas for how to stay warm with no electricity other than the obvious of snuggling in bed.
snow storm
It's headed our way tonight in Upstate NY. We're suppose to get over a foot. Tomorrow it is suppose to be snowing all day long. It'll be one of those days when I REALLY appreciate working from home.
When we had a major ice storm last
February, schools were let out early (10 a.m.) and the info was posted on a crawl at the bottom of the TV and on the radio. No parents were called.
I do believe it is the same storm system s/m
Not sure when it turns to ice though. If I remember from the radar last night, looked like southwest to northwest Ohio is going to get hit with this too. Not sure about Sunday's storm yet. I tried to pull up the radar, but it isn't showing for tomorrow yet.
My daughter is supposed to be driving up from Dayton tomorrow and going back on Sunday, but I warned her not to. She just might have to stay!
Gas Station during a storm....
Had just left one date at Starbucks, stopped to get gas, cashier and I instantly fell in lust.
Two years and going strong...
When you least expect 'it,' I guess 'it' decides to drop in your lap, lol!!!
We are having a severe thunder storm right now
and I am working like crazy becuse my dog won't get off my feet so she is working the peddle for me. I just love my furry critters!
Always shut down during a thunder storm - sm
I had a "great surge protector," i.e., an expensive one, that was supposed to protect against a lightening strike. Guess what? Lightening struck my modem anyway! I was down several days while I waited for a new modem to be installed. Not too happy with my protector and will never trust again.
hail storm in MI sat, saw a man with a beer riding a
now that's something you don't see every day!

$3.03 here in Upstate NY
It takes about $50 to fill up my Jeep. Thank goodness I don't have to drive to and from work. It seems like we have the highest gas up this way, once you go down to Pennsylvania and Virginia it's so much cheaper.
Upstate NY
I'm about an hour south of the Adirondack Mts.
Upstate NY?
I'm from Saratoga. Where are you from?
About 15 here in Upstate NY
Of course two weeks ago it was almost 70.
Here in Upstate NY gas
is $3.55 a gallon. When we went away on vacation last week it took $62.00 to fill up our Jeep (just about empty). I only fill my tank with $25.00-$30.00 every week.
Where in Upstate NY?
So I can be ready. We live in the Syracuse area and all we have now is a lot of rain and it's very windy outside.
You can come here to Upstate NY then
We just hit the 105 inch mark of snow for the year. Yuck. I hate it.

another upstate NYer
I grew up in the town of Catskill. Worked in a bank in Albany for many many years... Still in NY, but closer to Syracuse/Rochester area. Nothing is like the Hudson Valley in the fall though...
Where are you? We're still 2.99 in upstate NY.
xx
I'm upstate New York too -
I only lock my doors at night. For the first ten years we lived in our house, we had only one key and only used it when we came home from vacation.
Of course during the Saratoga track season, I get more careful. More burglaries in town.
I went to upstate New York and I could ...sm
detect an accent. Not a Bronx-like accent but a distinct accent. But then I'm from the south so I would have definitely noticed.
Yep, I'm an Upstate New Yorker
The Saratoga region is beautiful. I haven't been there in a while, but used to go to the performing arts center all the time when I was younger. I also love the fact that we don't get all the weather disasters that a lot of places get. I'd like to get rid of the snow though. Then it would be pefect.
It is hot upstate, definitely swim weather, sm
You tend to have cooler temps over there. Upstate and across the river, much warmer.
I have family who live in upstate NY too!
They live in 'Gloversville.' They scare me. Heavy drinkers, heavy smokers, loud, and love some beer called Genesee and even have bars in their houses with kegs of the stuff on tap 24/7. I haven't been out there in years. I used to enjoy the drive--I remember seeing some huge windmill in Amsterdam or Rotterdam maybe? Always loved driving through the Amish area...I think I could most comfortably call that area home. Sure is a pretty area you live in as well. That lake-effect snow though, that sure is a bummer! Us cold-weather birds sure do know how to seize the good weather when it is here though, don't we!
Where in upstate are you? You've probably said B4, but I forgot! sm
Fellow Rome/Syracuse, NYorker here!
It's in Verona, New York (Upstate) - NM

Freezing in Upstate New York
With the wind chill it's below O. A lot of snow too. I still have no idea why I live here! LOL.
The temperature here in Upstate NY has risen to
10 degrees YaaY :)
ugh
Totally freezing in upstate New York. sm
I live here because my daughter lives in Brooklyn and this way I get to see her about once a month. Moved from CA for it, but that might have been a bad idea. Every year I hate winter more. I HATE shoveling snow.
I live in upstate NY, and people think I should sound like I'm from the Bronx
My online friends are all surprised when they first talk to me on the phone - "You don't have an accent!" LOL
This town has been through so much. The same storm that hit the town of Enterprise sm
the high school where 15+ kids died when a tornado hit their school, destroyed this hospital in Americus, GA. The town was devastated. Please see this local news link to help them win an MRI machine. Thanks everyone!!
