I like Cat's idea. Or make your visit short by showing up only

It is a lot of work - my story (I'll try and make it short)
First let me say I'm happy that you have a marriage that you don't feel you need to work at it. Wish I could say the same. Been married 26 years and it has been work on my part this whole time. We knew each other 2 weeks before marrying (yes one of those crazy and spontaneous moments I didn't think ahead as to how it would affect my life), but "for better or worse" I made it 26 years with him. I have had to work at this the whole time. Learn to say I'm sorry when I don't do anything wrong, learn to accept him never saying I'm sorry because "I'm a man and it's hard for us to say we're sorry", work at keeping my mouth shut when he is going off about something, work at juggling work, paying bills, doing laundry, grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, and doing it all. This has been a lot of work and I wish I could have had someone tell me how much work it was going to be - I would have thought twice. I can't see where any marriage is never work. I've given up a lot and kept my mouth shut, and worked at keeping my feelings to myself on a lot of issues (avoids the two hour arguments because I don't feel the same exact way as he does on certain issues). I've worked at not getting angry at him, and I'm still working at it.
So I am happy for you, but there are us out there that do have to work a lot in our marriages (or at least at keeping our sanity).
I feel your pain... sometimes I consider shaving my head!!! I just keep it short so as not to mess

Kids and money for school things...sm
Here is it is.... January 30th and since January 1st I've been asked by my 16-year-old for:
$90 for a graphing calculator for the calculus class
$85 for school yearbook (and price goes up 2/1 by $15..she didn't tell me any of this until now)
$30 for hoodie for yearbook club
$15 for drama t-shirt for spring production... which she has exactly 2 lines in and will not be on the stage any other time.
Total: $220.
I bought the calculator as it was necessary and I know she'll use it again in college. I've offered to pay half of the yearbook if she'll raise the other half. For the shirts I've told her to raise the money herself. The drama team is also looking to possibly go to New York for a few days to take in shows in May and gosh only knows what that would cost... if it gets approved.
She doesn't work and says if she gets a part-time job then she can't do the drama production as they practice 3 days a week until 8 p.m. .... well hello she has only 2 lines in it and isn't even in any other scenes.
I told her to get a job or start offering to babysit for money. I'm tired of being nickel-and-dimed to death for fru-fru non-essential expenses.... especially since we just spent $700 on car repairs and $250 for surgery on the dog (abscess on foot - she stepped on something at some point and messed herself up) and medical bills are coming in from my husband's numerous medical tests he had in November. I'm not going to pay for her to go to New York either when that would probably take out entire family vacation money for the summer. Once those numbers come in we'll offer to pay a portion of the cost but that's it.
She also insists she wants to go to college out of state, and her dad and I have also told her she has to figure out how to pay for that because we're not going in debt for that when she can get a free education from the lottery in our state by going to a state school. She doesn't do any volunteer work, play sports or have any special talents that would qualify her for scholarships.
I told her that it's time to grow up and realize there is no money tree in our back yard, and I'm not going to bust my butt working extra jobs to buy these things for her.
Well, I did not make my money as an MT, you can bet on that
I would take exception to the nobody working as MT is wealthy- if I had no money, I am still wealthy in my loves and happiness. I have a great life. I hope to never have to retire, regardless of what I have moneywise, just my way of living.
I just think about my money that I make
and I don’t have days when I just slack. Have days off for that.
If you don't make enough money here
why are you sitting around and not looking for something else to do? Is it because you just "gotta" work at home? If that is the case, do as I did in years past. I worked nearly always 2 jobs, 3 or 4 if I did not have enough money. If I did not have the money I wanted for groceries, I bought the basics, potatoes, beans, and the like. Hey, it will fill you up. I can have fried potatoes 1 day, the next mashed, baked, whatever. I raised a family, bought my home, had cars, trucks, expensive vacations, supported several people at one time, and did it all on my own because I have a strong belief in working. You should try it sometime.
Well, hopefully you don't make too much money, otherwise, you can forget help. nm
.
Holy cow, how much money do you make? - sm
We pay maybe $6K a year on ours, $60K whew, you must make a ton of cash, or your husband does. Amazing. Our house will be paid off in 3.5 years on a 15 year mortgage.
You'll hardly make any money
The main problem, which made me get out, is that you'll have people that won't pay when you give them the merchandise. Then, if they want to return something, you pay to send it back to avon to get credit which cuts into your profit.
You have to pay for the mags, bags, order forms, etc. It's not really a profitable business and will cost you to make money.
I still buy Avon and love it, but never again will I try and slling it, that's for sure. I got burnt too many times having to chase money down and then get an attitude from the buyer.
If you do this, make sure you get the money up front! LOL
I feel your pain too, but not spending my money is not going to help you - nm

Would love to make extra money BUT
I have gone through the initial call with this company, some VERY nice people but the thing I do not like is you have to buy products each month and then get other people involved, is it any different now? The products seem like they would be pretty good, natural etc. Thanks!
'Scuse me, I buy ALL of those brands...
I just appreciate nice quality items. I do not have a closet FULL of these items, but I do own them. I also have items by Chanel, Armani, Dior, and Louis Vuitton.
I'm neither rich nor snooty. I prefer to buy fewer items that are of quality, rather than waste my hard-earned money on items of inferior quality that won't hold up for even the season they were intended for without looking like they were fished from the Goodwill depository.
Many times you do indeed get what you pay for.
I look on it the same way I look on MT work - Quality trumps Quantity.
Well, I can make a load of money too if I wanted to get into porn. and
having relations with other people, including women. It's a multi-billion dollar a year industry. It doesn't make it right. I can go and rob a bank tomorrow and make a ton of money, but it doesn't make it right.
I like what the Bible says about it - a decent man will make his money with an honest living.
I feel for you! Let us know how things go. nm

things like this make my day a little better.

that's a good idea! i just get the feeling they want big money gifts and i don't feel it is n

Good way to make loads of money, surrogate mothering
Watching a news show this morning and I am seeing a 42-year-old woman who is a surrogate mother. I am really taken aback at seeing this as most 42 year olds would be considered a higher maternal risk because of their age. The surrogate mothering agency says they have seen a dramatic increase in the people wanting to rent their uterus. The agency said the surrogates make between $18,000 and $20,000 something for each baby. Would you be one?
Things to make a bike more fun - sm
I'm a big believer in mountain bikes. Not only are they great for riding on regular pavement, but you also have the freedom to go on dirt roads and trails. I don't know why, but riding uphill on pavement seems like a chore to me, but on a trail, it's an adventure.
You can probably get the bike shop to replace the standard seat with a wider one... lots of people do that. The ones with gel padding are GREAT... and will make it possible to ride more miles before your posterior gets tired or sore.
The other thing I do when I buy a bike (especialy a mountain bike) is have the shop remove the toe-clip-things fom the pedals, and just put on standard pedals. I don't like the feeling of my feet being attached to the pedals, and want to be able to put my feet on the ground at a moment's notice. (Or, jump off! Haha...)
If you get a bike with lots of gears, such as a 21-speed, then going up hills will be much easier, since you can put it into a very low gear. If you have the money, a lighter frame adds to the ease of climbing hills (or, just carrying the bike, or loading it into a car or truck.)
If you ride lots of bumpy or dirt roads, "Rock-Shox" on the front wheel can help ease neck, wrist or shoulder pain. I don't have them on my current bike, and boy do I feel it when I hit a bump. But I can't afford them right now.
Also, especially with a moutain bike, I believe in getting the tires puncture-proofed. (Or more puncture-RESISTANT, I should say.) Nothing worse then getting far from home, running over a sticker-weed, and then having to walk home pushing the bike. They make interior tire liners called "Mr. Tuffies" that can be put inside the tire to help resist flats. Finally, invest in a good bicycle lock, so that if you ride it to the market, or leave it anywhere, someone else won't come along and steal your fun!
It is attitudes like yours that make things nauseating! sm
I will never understand why there is no room for Santa and religion during the holidays!! Santa brings about all the innocence for children. I grew up in a very catholic family and in no way did believing in santa interfere with the religous meaning of the holiday. Santa is fun and innocent for a child to believe in. The world is bad enough to grow up in these days...why would anyone not want to believe in santa?? That is what is nauseating. Just my opinion.
Why does it make a man feminized if he enjoys things
that smell good. My son (not quite 26 years old) is not at all feminized (lives with his girlfriend) and enjoys candles. He likes nice smells.
P.S. I don't approve of the fact that he and his girlfriend live together, but that's another story.
It'd make me feel better, which is better than nothing..--
Besides, I have a feeling that somehow, someday, something is going to happen to cause the government to crack down on this unscrupulous industry, and put them on a VERY short leash.
If the industry cheats and underpays too many of us, allows too many of us to sit around with no work, or fires us in favor of offshoring, there are going to be a LOT of people with very high writing and communications skills with nothing to do but start pushing -- HARD -- to turn that whole worldwide scam upside down.
Yup, I feel your pain, but I solved things this year.
I bought myself a pair of boots I've been wanting forever, and a new purse, and a tennis bracelet - told him they were going to be from him to me. I bought 'em, wrapped 'em, and enjoyed them big time!! I deserved them! My DH means well, too, though just is clueless as well. Rather than sit and feel like crawling back in bed, this year I was right on the floor opening gifts with the rest of the bunch! Sometimes we women have to do what we have to do!
short arms, short-term memory loss...
I too suffer from Short Arm Syndrome. Add to that the short-term memory loss that middle-age brings and I have now discovered I need to lasso the &*%$ reading glasses around my neck or my day will be spent wandering in circles asking the dog where my glasses are.
I have two pairs, per advice of doctor. I do not wear glasses all the time, so he thought I was not ready for bifocals. My son gave me a wonderful eyeglass case for Christmas that is big enough to hold both pairs should I ever venture out of the house amongst the living.
I did manage to find some "sporty" looking around-the-neck-eye glass holder thingies - what DO you call those things? I'd use twine before getting those multicolored beaded ones. I have a neon coral one and an emerald green one. Too bad I can't find the former, I can't remember where I put it.
Wow - evidently it sure DID make you feel better....
You are creepy.....yuch.......
You make me feel like a slacker...
I'm reading "Stop Dressing Your 6-year-old Like a Skank" by Celia Riverbark. Very light and very funny. Perfect beach book, if I were at the beach, which I'm not unfortunately.
It did not make me feel bad, but it made

Make him repay every mean thing he does to his brother with 3 nice things sm
Take away a privelege he really enjoys and make him spend that time doing three nice things for his brother - through gritted teeth - every time he does something mean. For example - you hit your brother, you clean his room, let him use your favorite toy and clean his plate for him after dinner tonight. If he responds in anger during that timeframe and hits again, he starts all over again, three nice things. I had to do this with my son with negative things he would say. It worked well. Now when he starts to slip up we start the three nice things again and he remembers quickly.
I have moved on and was just trying to make SoBlue feel better.
I have moved on and gotten on with my life. My ex now lives 2 minutes from me and I could care less. The kid who robbed me is now 19 and in jail for robbing a bank and I don't have to worry about him either. These things were in my past and I have learned and become a stronger person from them.
Just love them and include them. Don't make them feel SM
like they are a part of a bad movie not really understanding the plot and worried about what is going to happen to them. I have an adjustment disorder and panic situation all my life as a result. When you feel the floor falling out from under you it is a frightening situation. Just make them feel as secure as possible. That is the main thing. Tell them over and over it has nothing to do with them. Kids tend to blame themselves. I don't know the ages of your children, but young ones particularly take it on themselves. I told my dad the night it really fell apart that if I had been a better daughter this would not have happened. Obviously, that was not an accurate statement. I was sitting in a chair unable to walk listening to a terrible fight and my mom telling him she hated him. No one should have memories like that. My parents were good people. They felt overwhelmed and that is what happened. We needed family counseling. Good luck to you, dear.
I dont' say I was single to make people feel sorry for me.
I, rather, feel sorry for you because you obviously don't care about people who are truly in need, single, divorced, widowed or otherwise.
How much money rasied for Katrina, how much money for the diasters due to the tidal waves and what?
Every single one of them have had some smoke around it with the money not getting to where it was supposed to go. I did not contribute, I hardly watched, was not caught up again as I have seen things like this before. They should give a all you can give benefit for Darfur where people are being massacared each and every day. Genocide going on there each and every day. I have not seen any benefits to help them out yet.
But her money is her money to spend as she pleases -
I don't understand how you can think it is wrong for her to spend whatever she wants to on whatever she buys. It is their personal money they spend. It is not like they are saying give me those shoes and add it to the taxpayer's bill.
And in all actuality, they are saying spend, spend, spend to get the economy going.
I am sorry, I am jealous that some people still have plenty of money to spend and I don't, but I don't expect those people to quit spending just because I had to.
I've heard good things and about things about taking prednisone. My mom was on it for SM
for awhile and it made her look so swollen. I sympathize with you.
Law and Order CI -- I can't believe
they moved it to USA though- every time I think about getting rid of cable they do this to me. :(
Just a few - not in order
terminal cancer
bronchial washings
pus

scrotum
MDSO
Yuck, now I can't eat dinner later after reading all these words everyone posted. Maybe I'll post them on the refrigerator so as to enhance my diet!
CSI and Law and Order
Saw the post on the other board about transcribing for CSI or L&O docs.
Had to respond here (because this is not really a main board thing), that these shows are awesome! I love them probably because it is so much like our work. One of the accounts I type for is actually mentioned on one of the CSIs and I go crazy when I hear the name of the hospital. LOL. Anybody else loooove these shows? Just curious to see if there are only a few of us or if a lot of MTs have this in common.
there isn't any order that I sm
know of. There is a notice that ocmes in the mail that says it will just be in late May.
Daughter is only 3 and she calls me
Me: Momma
Dad: Daddy.
When she gets older I think she will probably call me mom.
I know when I was younger something that would really irritate my mom is when I called her "mother'.
Do NOT take any calls when you are at work.
x
Her BF is controlling? Yours calls and you hop in
x
There has to be a reason for all these calls
I would think if the payments made on time, paid when they are due- what would a company call that often for? Do you have privy to that account to check it? Do you see the statements? First of all, they have laws about the calls all day long-you can put a stop to that. I have credit cards, my husband has credit cards- we never ever get any calls to ask us to pay in advance. I think something else is going on here.
Does anyone else keep getting phone calls
from 877 numbers and 800 numbers but no identifying info, the phone will say unlisted number, and other times the phone will say 000-000-0000 as the telephone number, and other times it will say private name, private number, and when you pick up nobody is there.
I've been getting these calls 4 or 5 times a day. I let it go through to answering service and nothing. Surely after 3 months of this they would get tired and stop calling.
I really have to figure out how to have these numbers blocked but in the meantime it drives me buggy.
annoying calls
I get them also, especially with all 000, very annoying.
put it to you this way--know a guy in is 40s who still calls it his bobo. NM
.
restraining order?
When you leave, could you try to get a restraining order? Then when he violates it, which he probably will, have him arrested. .
