"This country is too far gone..." Sadly, I agree.

Just about every decision that is made by our esteemed lawmakers seems to have a money trail somewhere, and that is so sad.  Whoever has the most money, wins.  It's also sad that the government is seemingly no longer "by the people, for the people," and our constitution is trodded on day after day.  The very freedoms our parents and grandparents fought for in wars are slowly being stripped away.  Two words--"Patriot Act."  I still can't figure out where the "patriot" part of that whole abomination comes into play.

Sigh...and so we just all keep on doin' the best we can and the world keeps a' turnin.

I agree - and in a foreign country nonetheless! (sm)
What if she woke up and wandered out or if there was a fire or if someone came in and got her? No way in this world would I have done that. I have stayed in hotels by myself with my kids and the most I ever did was go to the vending machine on the same floor and right back while they were sleeping and I was nervous to do that!
Don't ask me how but "this" always turns to **** nm

I am not in "this stuff" or whatever you are talking about
I dont have an interest free loan on my home. My home lacking a small amount is paid in full. What are you talking about? You probably are very young to not know about reverse mortgage. It has NOTHING to do with no interest loans, nothing. What is unstable? Google reverse mortgage for homes that are paid for - not interest only homes. I have an almost paid for home, 2 jobs that are in demand more than most, money in the bank that is not in stocks or bonds, social security that for the next say 15 years is ok. What are you talking about unstable? Your posting is not making sense. There is big difference in interest only loans and reverse mortage for older folks, big difference.
"This is the song that never ends...."sm
and when you hear someone sing it you can't get it out of your mind for hours!
To the teacher? Sadly, nothing. To my son: SM

I just told him that sadly some people don't believe in Angels and God, but that we know they are for real.  I told him about different things that have happened in our lives that showed us that they were real and told him we should just remember to pray for his teacher at night and to just not talk about it with her at school.

I was really mad at her and practiced in my head what I wanted to say to her, but unfortunately (or fortunately) I never had the guts to confront her about it.  I thought I was over it (this happened 8 years ago!), but I'm feeling angry all over again right now.  Oh well...let it go Chickadee! :)

Chickadee

Yes, it is hot in Miami and sadly quite
aaaa
Sadly, what you say is 100% true.

That whole moving because of hubby's job always frosts my arse for some reason.  Maybe I'm jealous, I don't know, but I can't ever see myself falling for such a maneuver, no matter how much money it meant.  Some things you just can't put a price tag on.  Man, I'm a tough old broad.

Interesting. I have always sad that sadly it is the bible itself
that prompts some people to become atheists because some of it is downright scary.

It has often been said that when it comes to the Bible most devout Christians boldly declare their belief in the "infallible word of God", demanding that every single word be taken literally, without exception.

But when it comes to the awkward verses including the cruel and unusual punishment ordered by God and Jesus, slaying of innocent animals and children, etc., the extreme testing of one's faith, clearly they tend to ignore them or interpret them VERY differently.

Funny, isn't it?
Sadly no edit button.

Sadly, I know the answer without having to look it up - it was the Divinyls.

Yes I do! Sadly, I love my husband
"out of duty" - he is my child's father. BUT I am in love with someone who I "want" to be with. He has been my best friend for 2 years - never had sex but we know everything about eachother and can talk about anything. We talk ALL day long on emails - not mushy stuff - just real talk. And we end them with "in another life" because we just know that it would be the only way for us to be together.
Sadly they would probably be better off in the foster care system.

sadly it doesn't feel at all like Christmas to me...
I mean on the one hand I am so thankful and blessed for all that I have and all that I am able to do, I know this..

Three weeks ago I moved from Nevada to South Carolina to be closer to my 4-month old niece (my sister's husband is stationed at Camp Lejeune) Thanks to MT, I could pick up and go... However we are so far from home and even though I adore my niece (hello i moved to be closer to her!!) It is really not the same without my parents (who are still in California where we grew up) and my older sister who lives in Nevada where I do.

I miss the dinner my dad cooks, I miss just spending time with them, even though I am happy to be in the company I am. if that makes sense. come on I miss the family fights!!!

On the other hand, I did absolutely NO shopping this year, which really puts me in a sour mood as well. I just simply didn't have the money and with the economy getting worse, it just wouldn't be smart to keep adding to my already mile high debt... So that is another reason I am not feeling Christmas this year.

Christmas is normally my favorite time of the year... the lights, the happiness, just the season for being "merry".

I am a happy person and above I said I am blessed. I know these things, but it's a sad Christmas this year. Even though that precious face below makes me light up like never before...
I miss my home and I wish they would move closer :(

That is me being selfish, I know!!!

I am hoping my spirit lifts tomorrow and I'd really like to bake some cookies. My brother in law wants snickerdoodles and I wanted to try those, never have before. any good recipes?

I know things will pick back up. This was a huge move for me, I left all the people I knew and loved and it is definitely an adventure and I'm proud of myself, don't get me wrong. The holidays ALWAYS put you in a certain kind of mood!!! :)

I wish everyone the best and can't wait for the start of a new year!! Merry Christmas

Sadly, though, many ARE that wasteful and spoiled by their luxuries. sm
As MTs, I think we fall into a rather frugal subset of the population, perhaps both because we aren't in the higher income brackets (though, having said that, I'm expecting some s******s to chime in that he/she is making $100K a year and only working part time because her left thumb alone can do 300 lph) and also because, perhaps, we're used to looking at how the little things (like spaces and punctuation and all the minutiae) add up in aggregate.

I have my favorite things on which I splurge, but I can otherwise squeeze a penny with the best of 'em, as I suspect many, if not most, here can, as well.

But, yeah, there are people who hire others to do even their most routine tasks and chores, or who run the A/C in summer with open windows, or drive the Hummer the 1/2 block to the 7-11....
Sadly, it seems that simple kind gestures in life
are no longer taken for that - they are either considered some evil, twisted, perverted gesture or go unnoticed because of the society we have become.

So little is done face-to-face anymore with all the modern technology we now have - and, as great as it can be, a lot has been lost along the way. I can't keep thinking had we not progressed so rapidly and so far would common courtesy of others be so far removed from us as it is now....

NOW - if you sent an email card I bet you'd get a response! LOL (my cynical sense of humor!)

Bless you - I would love to get a card like that from a neighbor who was being complementary! Dn't stop - someone, somewhere will figure it out and say "thank you" or "how are you doing today" - all the good guys can't be gone or in hiding!
Sadly, I work because I'm a workaholic..too many years of being a single parent..
Most days it helps keep my sanity, and quite honestly, I do have older children from another that I choose to help put through college and pay their bills until they are out of school. That is something I contribute. My husband pays for everything else and we do like cruises..and just traveling.  We have a place in Hawaii and Las Vegas is one of our favorite places to go..and even then, I take my computer along and work. Nothing better than working away from home, change of scenery.  My husband hasnt "worked" in probably 20 years..he owns commercial property and manages that which there is not a lot to do with. His sister and he own the property and she does the bookkeeping part leaving him with not a lot to do..but I keep him busy . It is hard because he has always traveled and likes to go all the time..whereas I like working..The property is up for sale so I guess if it sells then I might retire..maybe..I'd probably go nuts sitting around, and even when I'm on vacation..I freak out if I am not working.. Yeah.. it's an addiction..bad.. I wonder if anyone else in this biz has the same problem. I've always worked 2-4 jobs..but the obsession has gotten worse when I started working at home..Anyone else not being able to relax and smell the roses???
OMG - No wonder this country is
  - I'd rather spend my money on my family then on a gas guzzler.
We do need to be in the country
That's exactly what we need (country). We don't mind driving a little further to go to the stores. We are both home during days (yes that could drive one nuts in itself), but DH does computer work so he's home too. The only time we go out is once a weekend to go grocery shopping, so a longer drive is fine for us. We moved to this neighborhood because we used to live out of state (close to Canada border) and wanted to be closer to family, and not in the harsh harsh winters, so did research for about 6 months and chose this area. Because we were out of state we couldn't just come down here everytime there was a house for rent (and we had a certain timeline when the lease ended up there), so only had about 30 days to get it all together between finding a place close enough to our end lease date, pack it all up up there, drive down (a 2 day drive), and get moved in. So, we didn't know the neighborhoods and we said it doesn't matter at that time, just get down here and then have time to look around for a better place. Luckily we're month to month now so can leave at any time. So, now its trying to find a place with some "space". We don't mind the occasional noise, but with so many neighbors around us so close in proximity they are all making noise, and they are all making noise at different times. So its on with the hunt for us.
our country

Another post that was removed mentioned golf course in Florida that was now owned by the Japanese.  Jobs, property, borders, etc.  Why are our leaders allowing this?  I do not believe the average citizen want this.

in the country
at my husband's great uncle's house out in the woods in Ruston, LA - on a Sunday - the preacher came to the house. . we wore jeans and wouldn't allow any family other than the great aunt & uncle and a cousin. . we were strange. . We did let some great aunts bring punch and cake later.
Gone Country
I have been watching Gone Country... I didn't see it at all last season, but one of my friends told me to start watching it this season since Sebastian Bach is on it (he used to be the lead singer of a rock band called Skid Row back in the 80s ~ I had such a huge crush on him back then!! LOL!)

What is up with Sean Young?!?!?!? I really don't know much about her, but is she "cuckoo" like that in real life? Has she ever done any singing before? (it sure doesn't sound like it!)
And this is why our country is going to h@ll in a

1st of all I said this *country* - not world...sm
Secondly, it's not just the Christians, I beg to differ.......there's plenty of other religious groups in the USA - that this effects.....and who have been oppressed for a couple of centuries as I see it.
little by little in this country - losing ....nm

There is a country song.. sm
Alissa lies.  About child abuse.  I know this is a little different, but that song makes me so sad.  It is hard for your daughter I'm sure not to think about children that struggle with issues of this sort.
Uh...this is still a free country and one can--sm
participate if they choose to, negatively or otherwise. I see plenty of other discussions where people have differing opinions about different things, negative, not liking, etc., and no one says any thing to those people...well, sometimes they do, but I thought this was a forum for everybody to participate, negatively or not, not just for those who happen to agree with what is being posted. There were plenty of people complaining about the Anna Nicole Smith threads too, and they participated, but no one told them they were angry or ill.
yep it is a free country and

that is why i can post that i thought * nn * sounded angry, deeply angry.

and it is MY OPINION that you sound very young.  maybe in 10 or 20 years, you will get the gist of what is going on here.

give it a rest.  i know i am.

Unless you are a citizen, this is not your country
How can you insist, demand, that we set up somewhere for you to wash your feet for a prayer session? There is supposed to be separation of church and state and I most definitely have heard of places having to get rid of things such as the 10 commandments and so forth. I am against the war, am against total wasting of our money (same thing happened with contributions to Katrina victims) but England right now having a horrible problem with the immigrants having taken over their every day lives. Miami is not like it used to be with the influx of Cubans. It is not the Miami that I visited in years past. If Americans demanded foot baths be installed somewhere for a prayer session, the ACLC would be all down our throats.
Living in the country is so...
enjoyable.  We have two neighbors and that is about it.  One neighbor is across the pond from us and the other neighbor lives back behind a wooded area and we can't hardly see their place unless it is in the winter.  I don't think I'd like living right next door to someone else.
I tell you what they do in this part of the country
I never liked stuffing - but here they make stuffing and make it like little balls (like a good handful) and bake it on a cookie sheet.
What is happening to this country
How in the world did they come to the conclusion that has to do with drugs. It could mean a hundred things. When DH and I are arguing he does that all the time (like the poster below said) it means time out. The kids in the pics look like a couple of nice teenagers (except of course not one of the best poses for a prom photo.
Our beloved country.
See on msnbe.msn opening page right now, under business section, foreigners overseas taking advantage of our slumping housing sales.  I think of all of the wonderful men and women who died  for our country to give us our blessings in this country, and I feel they are being so betrayed by what is going on in our country.
This country is definitely in trouble....

IMHO, many people have blinders on. Still buy like crazy, charge everything, drive brand new cars with big monthly payments, have all the toys, new everything and then only pay minimums on their CC payments or miss a house payment or two and think everyone lives that way. People need to learn how to save money, plain and simple. DH and I both work, make just over six figures, have only the house payment, cars paid for (not new ones but don't care to impress anyone with our cars), no CC debt, gas prices aren't hurting us too much and we can still take nice vacations 2-3 times a year. Most people these days live like there is no tomorrow, don't bother to save for retirement, try to keep up with the Jones' and are miserable. We make a nice living, live well within our means and are content. Do we want new things...sure, but we pay cash for what we want. Nothing irks me more than when someone charged to the hilt on credit cards complains that the debt collectors are calling them because they are behind in payments. Most people whould be able to ride out a recession if they had some money in the bank.

Before you move to the country
Try animal control. They will usually issue a warning first time second time they will issue a citation..If you have kids the country is a really boring place to grow up...I was out in the country until my divorce and moved into a great neighborhood with lots of kids...Best thing I ever did for my kids and myself..
It disturbs me that we are going to help a country
that is poisoning our country with lead paint on toys, just to mention ONE way.  I I  don't understand whyt we help out people/countries that try to harm us.
Is anyone watching Gone Country?

What do your think about Sean Young?

mee too, wish they were illegal in this country

Has our country taken a turn for the ...

Our once great country, I afraid, has just turned a corner for the worse. I have watched as the mentality of our country has gone from setting your mind to something, working hard, and you can accomplish it to giving up, sitting back, and letting somebody else take care of them.

I was brought up, as many were, with a good work ethic that was instilled in us by our parents. With the idea that if you want something you had to work for it, and by working for something you learned quickly the difference between wants and needs.

There were always incentives for a person to strive to better themselves. Whether it were financial incentives, or just the pride you gained in knowing that you did something yourself, it didn’t matter.

I wasn’t long ago that people had that “small town” mentality, and everybody knew their neighbors. And those neighbors helped each other out, in any situation, it was just what you did. And people were so proud that some times help would have to be disguised, you remember the lines like..”Mom made more stew than we could eat, could you help us out by taking it so that it doesn’t go to waste?”

But, somewhere along the line those thoughts of some (I guess now the majority) have changed. Some how, if somebody works hard to gain something others feel entitled to have the same things, even if they didn’t have to go through the struggle to earn it. Some how, things like big screen TVs, cell phones, and shiny new cars have wrongly slipped from the “wants” list to the “needs” list.

Somewhere the incentives to strive for betterment have been replaced by incentives to be lazy. The easy way out and hand outs are now the norm. The feeling of pride about being self sufficient is supposed to be replaced by guilt for having more than others.

The “small town” mentality is gone and our neighbors have turned into strangers. People no longer help out their neighbors or even themselves, instead they sit and wait for the government to come solve things for them. And when help does come they complain that the help wasn’t good enough or didn’t come fast enough, the pride is gone.

Well, I refuse to think that way, my small town roots and work ethic runs to deep. I refuse to let somebody take care of me while I am willing and able to take care of myself. I will continue to meet and know my neighbors and help them out when they need it. I will continue to work hard to take care of my needs and by doing so, my wants will take care of themselves. I will continue to volunteer for things and give to charities of my choice regardless of what the government wants to take away from me and give to the undeserving.

My hope is to change the thinking back to the way it was. The sun will rise again tomorrow, I’ll keep doing what I do, and this country can be great again….at least in my little corner of it…

Go get him, that's what I would do. I live in the country and
get strays all the time, have had up to 11 at one time outside, left by people who moved or just dropped off. My DH always says no to more but he is a big softie as soon as he seems them. Provide this sweetie a home. Good luck.
I'd have to go with "No Country for Old Men" - I just

didn't get it.

What an awesome post! I agree, agree, agree completely with you.
You are right on the money in my book!
and let's not forget - in THIS country your kids will

I meant country...excuse me!
And I am sorry, but it is Christians (meaning belivers in Christ, ok...)losing our freedom of speech.  Just think about it, anything and everything is ok to be discussed on TV, in books, on the radio (you know what I'm talkin' bout too), but mention the word *God* *Jesus* or even anything pertaining to the church, and whoa...no no...don't do that, it might offend someone.  Well I'm sorry, but sexual exploitation of women and children happens to offend ME...yet it's all over TV...homosexuality is a sin, yet it's all over TV... I won't go on because I think you're intelligent enough to see my point.  Anyhow, MERRY CHRISTMAS...HAPPY BIRTHDAY JESUS!!!
I hitchhiked cross country twice when...

I was a teenager....and survived!

Any country music fans out there?
I have just recently started listening to country (I love just about all kinds of music except rap) and I totally love the song and video from Gretchen Wilson "Come to Bed" almost makes me want to pick a fight with my hubby.
lol, sounds like the name of some third world country to me.

In some areas of the country it isn't really inappropriate sm
Not to be disagreeable but where I live a simple kiss on the cheek is pretty normal when meeting someone, etc.  So perhaps it is a more common thing where that person is from and therefore there may have been no ulterior motive behind it.  I recently went to my brother's wedding and quickly realized that not everyone wanted a kiss on the cheek when I gave them their lei at the luau party - though it is custom here.
This is not a specific section of the country
Born in the south, raised and living in the south and always told and taught how to send thank you notes, tried to teach my children, 1 does and 1 does not but they are grown now. I went to wedding in California, no thank you note per se but tacky printed generic note which I wish now I had not taken the time to shop for a gift I thought very nice. Happens everywhere....
country MT..my 6 y/o sleeps in my bed everynight..sm
She had so much anxiety about sleeping by herself. She used to get so upset over everything..so I let her in my bed. That was about 3 1/2 years ago and I dont regret it. I have two older kids and they have always been in and out of my bed, but never in it every night like she does. I dont care what anyone says about it. I think it is healthier for her to be comforted and have a feeling of being loved and safe than to make her cry and be upset every night.

As for you little one with so much anxiety over you dying I feel so sorry for you. It is such a painful thing to deal with when there is so much anxiety over something we have no control over. My mom passed away last year and my kids were extremely close to her. We still have a lot of issues with the kids and their anxieties over her dying so unexpectantly. Just give him lots and lots of love and answer questions honestly. Let him snuggle and feel your love every day and remind him that even if you would die you would still be his "angel" to love. My kids always talk to grandma and say she is their angel. When the sun shines and they feel the warmth they say it is grandmas love.

Take Care and hope everything works out.
country club dressing sm
Just attended a wedding at a country club. No matter where you go, everyone dresses differently. I would wear a dress or nice pants & top with some jewelry if you have any. Some of the men had suits and some had just a shirt and tie (with slacks, of course!). I wore a plain short dress with a jacket handy because the place was so air conditioned, and a nice necklace, nylons and a slight heel. Everyone was dressed differently. Just make sure your hair looks neat, your crowning glory, then the rest of you will feel just fine. I think since it is your family, you may feel better if you just look neat with a little jewelry that's in your budget. They are very fortunate that you are celebrating their milestone. Wearing a smile and taking lots of pics and giving a copy to the couple will put you high on their list. Have fun!!!
