$20,000 is less than most cars cost

You should have no problem getting a home loan for that amount ANYWHERE. They will probably try to jack up the interest rate because of your bad credit score, but don't let them. Bargain with them and if they won't deal, tell them you'll go to the bank next door. Get them down to 6.5% or less if you can.
Good luck!

I totally agree. We were thinking about buying another car. Both of our cars have around 97,000. One is a van and needs a new sliding door and we have a smaller car that needs a left fender, but you're right no payments, which I totally adore, so I guess we'll fix both. The van needs a major tuneup, but still cheaper than buying a new car.
Cars
I am really a sad case and actually have saved all the cars (almost) that I have ever bought. My car insurance man loves me because some of them are actually insured in case I drive them. Three of them are in the back of the house and are awaiting restoration whenever we "get around to intermediate telephone consultation" and one is actually ready to be painted and have the seats redone. I do care about engines and it has a huge one. We could use it to race for pinkslip (if we were so inclined). I like to start the engine and listen to it. I know that sounds crazy. One of my favorites is a volkswagon I got in my 20s and it now is an antique. I just bought another new car that I love and I am trying to force myself to sell the almost new one I was driving before I bought the brand new one, but when I start to sell it I feel like I am losing a "friend." Soon, I will need to rent a building to keep them in and get another extra job to pay all the expenses. I envy you the ability to keep your collection down to model cars. I like those too, but I can't drive them so that wrecks it for me. I want a vintage Jag and I know someday I will get one even if they do have bummer electrical systems. Glad to know I am not the only female who loves cars!
we got old cars too...sm
and both boys learned to do just about everything including pulling out a tranny and engine and going to the junkyard to find parts...
My fave was a ོ Pontiac Tempest...Way back when the boys were little I was pulled over by a young police officer who asked why the kids weren't in seatbelts...I said, "Well, they didn't become standard installation until 1967"...She didn't believe me, had to call in to verify the fact and just gave me a courtesy ticket. Of course, I had them custom installed so I didn't get stopped in that small burg in upstate NY.
Love the old cars....No computer brain pieces that take out the entire electrical system....a coupla bolts to take out an alternator, couple to take out a starter...and they're made of real metal and don't crush like the plastic juice box cars they make nowadays.
Too bad the car companies haven't gotten around to installing rollbars in cars...But, then they're in the business of selling more cars, not saving lives. Cat
Old cars
My 20-year-old nephew and I still talk about the times we spent going to the junk yard to find the fender, headlight, etc. for his Plymouth Horizon -- I think. We had a great time and really bonded. It just impressed me that they were not interested in muscle cars, or trucks or a Mustang and just happy and content that they had a car that ran and took them where they were going. In fact, he was picked for graduate of the year with the most unusual car, also got picked for best looking, most likely to suceed and another one but could keep only one and he kept the one about the car because he said it meant a lot to him as we worked on getting the parts and then he and his step grandfather worked on putting it together. Cost me all of $150 to help him replace the parts and gave me so much more in return.
P.S. I'm not into gas guzzing cars either.

I used to own only foreign cars
I had Mazdas when I was younger. Then I married my husband, and he works for a Chrysler/Jeep dealship so no more foreign cars for me, but I do love my Jeep.
Do teens still get cars of their own
Do people still buy cars for their teens or do they share cars? Do you pay for insurance or do they have to get a job and pay for it? My parents gave me nada, but that seems extreme, so I would like to know what other people consider normal.
AMEN! We had old cars that we put sm
in their names (they didn't drive them, they had their own cars) so that they could have an insurance policiy in their names. If we had put them on our insurance policy we wouldn't be able to afford insurance to this day because of the driving record! I laugh because the youngest is a firefighter now and drives the truck all the time! I guess all that "fast driving" prepared him for something! haha

natural bug cleaner for cars...anybody got one?
Does anybody know of a natural solution to remove bugs from your car without ruining the paint job? thanks
Cars that drive on the ground.
I was sure everybody would be having cars that fly by now.
Also, I thought that sidewalks would move and we would not have to walk at all.
I never thought we'd still be cooking on top the stove, I thought there would be replicators (little machines we hit a button and comes out our supper or drinks).
For some reason, the Walt Disney version of the future, a ride which no longer exists in Orlando, BTW was my idea of the 21st century. Turns out that it is much different.
Yet, what do we have that we would have never thought about?
The Internet. 30 years ago such an idea would seem impossible.
I have two teens of driving age who both have their own cars. sm
My older teen is 19. She pays for her own insurance, but is on my policy. I will pay for my 17 year old until he is 19. I got them both used cars, and now if they want to sell them and get another one, that's up to them.
I agree with this. I drive all my cars to death.
I've been married 23 years, and between the hubby and I, we've had four new cars in all that time, five if you want to count the car he brought into the marriage with him, which was a couple of years old at the time. For me, I had a 1986 Aerostar van which I bought new and drove to death, and now have a 1998 Windstar van with 110,000 miles on it, plus a really cool custom Yakima rack for my kayaks! We do buy all of our cars new, and it's lovely to have long stretches without any car payments, like right now. DH is driving a 2001 Taurus. But he's got lots of miles on that due to long commute to work and traveling to clients. Bought that one with no money down at 0% because my hubby, a CPA, loved the idea of free money. So that was the biggest car loan we ever had, but the loan cost us nothing. The Taurus has about 160,000 on it, and DH is starting to warm to the idea of replacing it. We're considering either a camry hybrid to save on gas, or a nice sturdy Volvo, because statistics show that Volvos average almost 20 years on the road.
Pfaltzgraff, books, cars, shoes
When I was a rich yuppie I collected a ton of Pfaltzgraff (tea rose), then I decided I had way more than I'll ever use so I quit. I'll never have enough books though. I also have some cars waiting to be restored and my guy is into that. We also have some toy vehicles that keep accumulating. I need to get rid of some of the shoes though, its just so hard to throw them away!
That sounds strange, cars in with property but
now much do you have to pay?
I had a home when we married, stability yes and the cars
I had 2, a van and a bigger vehicle, both on their last tires. He first bought me a green Toyota, glad to get that and then went and traded for a silver BMW. I did not have a clue as to what he had bought me. That was 9 years ago and since that time he has bought me 2 more brand new BMWs. I am not looking that gift horse in the mouth! He is a jewel who had been my friend before marriage and I was not looking for anyone to marry when he happened along. Best move I ever made when I suggested marriage. Married in Las Vegas and happy ever since. I am finally spoiled and loving it.
Like Oprah giving poor people new cars
It never occurred to her that they couldn't afford to pay the income tax on them.
Anyone know organizations where people can apply for donated cars? (sm)
I am trying to help a family that is in desperate need of a vehicle so that the dad can keep his job and take care of his family. They live far enough out that there are no buses and no one to carpool with. I know there are organizations who can help. Can anyone direct me? Thank you so much in advance.
After years of owning only American cars, I now own a Prius.
I'm getting 50 mpg even on the PA turnpike. I'm extremely happy with it and would buy another in a heartbeat. Earlier in the year, Toyota announced that they will be building Prius in the U.S., too.
Carfax relies on owners of the cars to report problems
We bought a "perfect" car, ྙ Olds (in 2000) that only had 45,000 miles on it. Loved that car but it was a flood car.The engine was still good but everything power plus the frame gave out in 5 years. Wouldn't pass inspection and had to junk it.
Nothing on Carfax had any of this info. So I'll never pay for a Carfax report again.
You know it does not cost too much
to have your hearing checked. That probably would be a good idea for you.
And cost wise?
Read all the above and thanks so much. Now in the midst of trying to get my yard in shape after the grubs set in and do not want to spend an arm and a leg on flooring. Thanks again.
Cost wise?
Heard sodding expensive.
Cost of fence??
Hi. My husband and I are getting ready to buy our first house and would like to know the approximate cost of getting a 6 ft privacy fence. We have absolutely no idea how much something like this costs :) Our new backyard is 85 x 110. I know the cost can vary, but can you please just give us an estimate if we had someone build it and also if we just bought the supplies and did it ourselves? Thanks for any info!
cost of fence
My hubby is a carpenter as is son. They buy their supplies for fencing through Home Depot or Lowe's or any building supply. I would go on line and Google fences, how to build and that should bring up some sites for building a fence, as to what supplies wood versus vinyl. The cost depends on where you live, as some areas are more expensive than others. I know you can buy directions on web sites on line, as I just ordered a design for a pergola my son is going to build for my daughter. You have to measure where your fence will be, then go to a store or on line. There should be someone at Home Depot or Lowe's or lumbar supply place who can help you. Also, having a company install a fence is much more expensive than doing it yourself. I know this well as my husband and son have put up a few fences. Hope this helps.
yeah, but she did not like the $400 cost with those..nm

$9K??? love to know what they did that cost - sm
that much, holy cow! As for handing the bill to you, that is really odd, I have never heard of that. The bills always go to the insurance company, unless they do not have insurance then I can see it being handed to you as you could give a bogus address, etc, but you can still just not pay the bill. Still $1800 an hour for treatment, crazy. I think the births of my kids were less than that and I was in for 4 days with one and 1.5 with the other. No wonder insurance is so high!
hair cost sm
I was told years ago that the markup is ridiculous by someone who took a beautician course.. I found a good girl, shopped around, could not believe what WALMART (just stopped by to qestion in person) is charging for simple highlights and cut, even the local Regis Salons which also includes Supercuts, etc., are getting a hundred bucks or more. So what I did was establish an agreement with a girl who rents space nearby and she is excellent. She has been charging me $65 for color, cut and blow dry and style. So today I gave her a very generous Christmas tip and she tried to give it back to me. I told her I so appreciated what she does for me all year and she started to cry and gave me a hug. I told her I was aware of what others charged and I knew she gave me a break all year. Everyone won, nobody lost. Shop around, the markup is ridiculous. Corporate wins, not the stylist (much like our profession). Just find someone you can trust and develop a relationship with and give them a little extra once in awhile. I am very glad I did this,I had a great day and I feel wonderful and so does my stylist. It can be done, be an educated consumer. Don't fall for the high prices, what costs them a few bucks turns into literally hundreds when it comes to highlight or color and cut! Shop around.
cost of hair
In defense of the cosmetology profession, I have to add that one never knows how much money and time the big stylists put into their business. My oldest son spends $10,000.00 a month in overhead, salaries, rent, seminars, etc. He stays current on everything, is a certified colorist, etc. They earn every penny they get - I had no idea until he filled me in. By the way, he lives too far away to make it worth my while to go get a haircut every 5 weeks, so I still go to local girl. $12.00 - she is way too cheap. Please don't bash them if you do not know the inside of the business. Anyway, Merry Christmas! Everyone tip your stylist - if it is a man, bake him something - he'll love you forever!!
The cost of Nutrisystem
is fairly reasonable in my eyes. However, I am financially able to stay on it, where I know there are others who cannot. It costs approximately $270.00 a month, and then you still have to buy your veggies, dairy products, and fruits. It is based on the glycemic index, where you eat good carbs. Most of the time I do not have a problem with being really hungry; however, there are times when I am. I am going to be 50 years old and have undergone a partial hysterectomy but I wonder if I still do not have some PMS symptoms and this is when I am the most hungry. I read up on Curvelle and it sounds pretty safe and it appears to work. I read some of the testimonies, etc. I might try it and see how it works.
The cost of groceries - WOW!!
I nearly had a stroke at the register today. Eggs here in AL are, get this, $3.49 where I am, but you can get 50 cents off by being a store member, which I am. That is still 2.99 a dozen - good grief! Sweet potatoes were $2.51 a pound, outrageous! Normally I do not look a whole lot at prices and just buy what I like, but these prices are even making me look! Gas just went up to $3.35 a gallon here. They are saying $4.00 by summer.
During her interview, it was said it cost...sm
100k total for all the in vitro procedures. I have not heard an answer as to how she paid for all this. Does any one know?
I wish my house had cost that, or
I consider that I got a deal on my house, but it was not that kind of a deal, and I did not buy it at an auction. Although the value of my home has decreased due to the current housing market in my region, it is still valued at more than I paid for it. It was a good investment for me.
I simply worked (a lot) and sacrificed in other areas so I could pay off my house. That was my goal, and I am glad I was able to achieve it.
I do not flip houses. I have friends who do, and I have worked for them and/or with them on some projects. Working with experienced renovators is a great way to learn how to do home repairs and a painless way to figure out what you will be able to do yourself and what to let the experts handle. Of course, it does not hurt to know the experts in question if you ever get in a bind.

$75 would be a bargain here - mine cost $250! - sm
But it was done in the pet hospital, which sits on some pricey real-estate right in the middle of town. STILL... considering the total bill came to over $5,000 --- you would think they could at least cough up the euthanasia for free.
Anyway, that was a year ago and I'm STILL paying it off.
Were you unaware of cost before she applied?

we won't be able to afford to buy ANYTHING at the market, even if we could get there.
Meanwhile, the US is working on sending men to Mars while our whole infrastructure is crumbling. Sure hope the economy is better up there.
So correct....*Free* always comes with a cost....
If everyone who wants this fabulous free healthcare would just do a little research they would find out it is not such a great thing. We have several friends in Canada who hate the healthcare system. Canada faces a shortage of docs because they come to the US for better training and the potential for more money and practice here instead. People, do your research, don't believe everything you hear from someone who just wants your vote.
dogs still cost money...
First im sorry about your dog! I adopted both my pups... like someone mentioned below, found them on petfinder.com actually! Now I have been away from them for a few months (they are staying home with family while i moved for a few months) and i am SOOOO lonely. i seriously have crying spells i miss them so much (that sounds so dumb to some people, but they truly are like my kids)...
My headline is just simply put because you said you didnt have a lot of money to get another dog... as you know dogs still cost money, not just the fee to adopt them or buy them (please adopt!).... you obviously know this as you've had one, just wanted to make sure!
Good luck in your search it sounds like you will be a great mommy!
Cost of tooth extraction
How much does a tooth extraction cost? I have no dental insurance so will be paying out of pocket. I am pregnant and since being pregnant this toothache has gotten worse and worse. I am to the point now that I can't take the pain anymore. Also does anyone know if you call a dentist and tell them you are in pain if they will work you in asap? Thanks.....I just never knew that a toothache would be so painful.
wire transfers cost $$
I'd hold off on the wire transfer - they typically charge $25 per transfer for that.
Depending on your bank, they may have an option to add an account that is from an outside institution so you can transfer back and forth. I had an account with Bank of American before they finally horked me off for good, and I was able to add my account with the credit union. It was a $3.00 fee to transfer in between banks, and it took about 3 days, but it's cheaper than a wire transfer (unless your bank offers an option to do those for free.) I was able to set everything up using the online banking system. It took a couple of days for the set up because they have to verify the new account, but it was worth it. Before I dumped them, anyway.
Also blessed w/a great hubs, partner, and father to the kids. Fixes our cars, scrubs the carpets,

I agree that a gift should come from the heart and cost
shouldn't matter. However, to me, a gift is not what YOU want to buy, it should be what the other person would want to receive (within your budget, of course). Somebody else might not like what I want to buy.
I think that is doable, but like the others i doubt you will find someone willing with the cost of g
The gas alone will cost her probably that much and when you deduct that from the $15 a trip it would hardly be worth her time unless she was desperate. Maybe any teenagers around that wouldn't mind doing that before/after school? I used to clean and I would not waste my time for $15 a day minus gas prices.
