"For someone that doesn't work at Transcend...." sm
Note to TranscendMT: We are ALL in this together; it really doesn't matter which company YOU work for. It's data collection (wink wink) ;-) MTSO trends DO matter to ALL employees, not just employees of said company and the company cheerleaders can't stop people from posting on a public forum. A lot of us have been transcribing before there even was a “Transcend.”
Good luck.
"For now" isn't a very long time - especially if you were hoping -

There are many more that speak about church, but I seriously doubt you are interested in reading them. I can tell by your attitude. It's really sad that this board is so full of hate-filled, miserable people. Were you this bitter before you became an MT? Serious question.
Ahh, yess.... "for the foreseeable future"!
That's what we were told when my company 'merged'.
'Foreseeable future' usually adds up to about 6 months, give or take a few. Mgmt. and tech support now in ---- (you guessed it!) --- INDIA. Software changes up our wazoos, too. Each one worse than the last. And yes, you are correct: 'exciting new technology' is VR.
I remember hearing the words "for the foreseeable future"... sm
when the company I worked for was bought by Transcend. I also remember hearing how nothing would change. Until they can figure out how to integrate the accounts to their platforms there is not much change. Then they get them onto their platform. If you are into quality more than quantity you will lose your benefits. This is my opinion and what happened to me. I suppose if you are a quick typist and don't double check things you might do better. If you do a search on this board and type in BeyondTXT you will see more opinions on that platform.
Precisely why I am there, too!
Very pleased overall and VERY pleased with my line counts.
That's precisely what I did
I cut to part-time a couple of months ago when things started getting a bit lean at MDI.
Even at that, I haven't been able to get my paltry 700 lines per day, and believe me when I say I check numerous times throughout the day.
My last paycheck from MDI left me with no alternative but to accept a couple of other part-time offers to be able to pay my bills.
MDI used to only have extremely lean times during a major holiday week, such as at Christmas and Thanksgiving.
I agree with above poster that something funny is going on. I just could no longer afford to wait around and see just what it is.
Good luck to all at MDI. For a company with fiercely loyal employees, they're sure giving us a swift kick in the teeth for the past couple of months.
Precisely.
Precisely
So that's a pay cut of 1/3. And we have people on this board who rip you apart if you say anything against VR. Someone here said VR needs to be killed in its crib and I agree. In fact, escription proudly touts that you can edit faster than you can type. If that is so, then they need to bump up the pay so you can make as much as you were making.
Precisely why I posted this.
I am asking the Administrator to confirm it or not. Or she could inquire. I trust the administrators of this board to tell us the truth.
Precisely what I expected, nothing more, nothing less
At least we'll have plenty of work this summer...Cheers, fellow VR'er!
PRECISELY. Couldn't have said it better myself.

LOL, precisely what I was thinking too!!!
'Excellend' job...BTW, since when do the CLIENTS of MTSOs blow their trumpets on this site?
This is slowly but surely becoming HYSTERICAL...must be delirium setting in :P
I am sure they work extremely hard, lol.
They are used to that from setting up their dirt houses and what not. They are used to working hard trying to fight for food scraps.
Employees that work hard
I am sure that this may be the case in some instances, but to lump sum all MTs/editors/employees is not fair and accurate. I am a very hard working employee. I work 7 days/nights/weekends every week. I work and volunteer for ALL holidays even when not scheduled and I worked WHENEVER I was asked to work extra to cover for vacations or sickness. I have not complained, I have always been SO thankful to have my job. What did that result in? Well, let me tell you. I am now one of the Heartland Information Services laid off employees!!!! It did not matter in the end how many hours/days/nights/weekends/holidays that I worked, I am no longer employed by the company I had planned to retire from!! My loyality was betrayed and I am just supposed to keep going on and being loyal again? Think about that one! Respect and loyalty is a two way street. Treat the employees how they want to be treated and you will be treated with respect and loyalty as well. It cannot be low pay, minimal benefits and lay offs at a drop of a hat and in return expect absolute loyalty from employees. We have to work together in the end.
Precisely. We have had some very unprofessional people sm
and some who turn their editing back in unedited. I will not say the name of the company because I am not a recruiter, just someone who thought I'd help get resumes for the positions. At last count, apparently some people cannot read and we keep getting resumes, the resume count is 179.
Its not Shapin. It is a small midwestern company located in middle America, Illinois.
You can nag all you want, but I have no say in hiring, nor do I have any say in firing.
If you want, I'll list the names of all the people who applied and then you can see who you can contact to see if you know any of them?
That is precisely why when I needed a new computer
I had one custom-built by an American guy, a neighbor, who speaks English as his first language, is a superb tech, and does not believe in offshoring, either.
Careful now. These were precisely the points
one of the posts under the TTD thread below that now seems to have the reply option blocked. Not 5 minutes after that post appeared, describing exactly the scenario you have here, the poster was attacked for being a miserable, complete and utter failure as an MT for such transgressions as riding the roller coaster of outsourcing, working with no sick time, no vacation time, no holiday pay, loss of benefits, job hopping to get pay raises, working 48 to 60 hour work weeks, training herself in new technologies over and over, buying and replacing her own equipment multiple times, having her marriage cave in after being outsourced again to home where she stayed holed up behind closed doors (unavailable to her family) trying to make mortgage payments and the like.
The ultimate failure (at least according to the mean-spirited responder) was that she had the utter gall to lose her health during the 10-plus-year absence of health care benefits and end up with chronic medical conditions that culminated in a physical and mental collapse and a 7 year hiatus from MTing. She was accused of blaming MTing for her collosal failures and looking for sympathy, which of course, the superior, self-righteous, sanctimonious more successful MT was mocking and belittling and who also forbade the MT failure to criticize the subcontracting practice and instead, suggested she needed to be banished from the profession AL together since it didn't seem to suit her.
It is heatening indeed to see that the sentiments expressed in that post below are recognized and shared back here in the real world. Thanks for your post.
you are precisely the case in point (not OP)
A PROFESSIONAL MT (i am an MT, not QA by the way) will take whatever time it takes within reason to get every tittle right, no matter what his/her pay is. That, IMO, is the difference between people doing MT and a real transcriptionist. p.s. if you'd really LIKE to know what the ESL is saying, you take the time, go through the struggle and you eventually will get good at it. QA is not over-rated, but is probably underpaid, having to fix the likes of your type work. Why are you even in this business if you don't put the quality first? oh, i know, probably you are one of those recruited off a TV ad that wants to get rich quick and work at home. With all due respect, you're the one that needs to find a new job.
Oh, I understood the post precisely and still
the people letting VR just go thru in order to not be docked should be immediately terminated.
Is it hard to get lines at Precyse? Does work run
nm
I work very hard, usually 7 days a week.
I work any hours needed. What is my reward? I get stuck on the garbage accounts, the ones who bellyache get the easy accounts and get put on steady accounts. I think I have learned 8 new accounts in the last 2 months, and none of them were decent accounts. My line count is good, but would be wonderful if I ever had an account I could get used to. These companies beat you up and then throw you to the dogs.
The scum that plays kiss-$$$ get paid more, take off when they want, and get choice of days off, holidays, so they can be with their ill-behaved brats whenever they want to be.
Don't tell me about ethics, tell the MTSOs they need to improve their ethics and then then they could have decent employees.
TT is a great place to work for. It is not that hard to
reach and maintain a decent line count. Incentives are fair and not to hard to reach. ExText is the best platform, at least in my 18 year experience. Great people, tons of work and the ESL percentage is about 20-25%.
I make that much $ too but i work very hard. Its possible, not easy.

Because you keep thinking things will get better with hard work, not always.
nm
You'll work twice as hard to get half as much, it seems
z
Hard to get work, but feedback really great.
Wish there was so much work I could be off DQA in time, and pay the bills, it would be so wonderful! How are you doing.. Hope you are hanging in! :)
Why is it hard to produce quality work?
You are either good at your job or not. If not, then find another line of work. If you don't think you are paid enough to take the time to produce quality work, then find another company to work for.
She's a stickler for detail and precisely the kind of MT

I find it very hard to believe that all work types are on a 1-hour TAT(sm)
Are you talking about stats or everything? Do you have this 1-hour TAT in writing? I've never even heard of hospitals being on that tight a TAT.
Life is about choices. Nobody forces her to work so hard and
put in so many hours that she's hiring people and ignoring them. I don't agree with that, no matter what the excuse is. We're all busy people. We all have lives. That doesn't mean you have the right to mess with people's income and careers. Employees or ICs aren't just disposable commodities that you toss aside on a whim. It's called RESPECT for your fellow humans.
When there is a lot of work, do you find it hard to make 1100?
cause I sure do.
lol You'll be hard pressed to find work with

Not a good company. Their pay is low and software hard to work with sm

But a 'Thanks for Your Hard Work' email wouldn't cost them a penny :-(
It's not even about a gift, really. It's just more about the lack of acknowledgement in general.
I'm sure a lot of MTs, not just MDI people, are feeling a bit disillusioned and unappreciated this week.
I am wondering if employees with Futurenet have a hard time having adequate work flow..sm
Just started there not too long ago, but now finding out I am running out of work frequently. I have several accounts that I can work on, but all are empty most of the time. Have they overhired or is this the normal?
Hard to say...
In my experience, one minute of dictation is roughly equivalent to 10 lines of transcription, so, approximately 180 minutes of dictation, and figuring an average length of a report at around 3 minutes, that's probably around 60 reports.
Hard to say
what the situation is. It is fairly common to have times here and there where there is no work in this business due to many different things. The company may have over hired and don't have enough work. Do you work on clinic or acute care. If clinic and you work on only one account, is it possible a doctor is out of town? There could be many different reasons, although I think it is somewhat strange that they can predict that there will be no work at all for you for several days (this might make me a little suspicious). Might not hurt to try to find another part-time position to fill in the gaps.
it is hard
to say that our profession is not going to exist. I see a high demand for experienced MTs. If you look on the occupational outlook handbook, it even says that there is going to be greater than average demand for MTs. I copied and pasted below what it says.
Contracting out transcription work overseas and advancements in speech recognition technology are not expected to significantly reduce the need for well-trained medical transcriptionists. Outsourcing transcription work abroad—to countries such as India, Pakistan, Philippines, and the Caribbean—has grown more popular as transmitting confidential health information over the Internet has become more secure; however, the demand for overseas transcription services is expected only to supplement the demand for well-trained domestic medical transcriptionists. In addition, reports transcribed by overseas medical transcription services usually require editing for accuracy by domestic medical transcriptionists before they meet domestic quality standards. Speech-recognition technology allows physicians and other health professionals to dictate medical reports to a computer that immediately creates an electronic document. In spite of the advances in this technology, the software has been slow to grasp and analyze the human voice and the English language, and the medical vernacular with all its diversity. As a result, there will continue to be a need for skilled medical transcriptionists to identify and appropriately edit the inevitable errors created by speech recognition systems, and to create a final document.
JLG hard?
If you thought the JLG phone test was hard, you are in for a rude awakening in the MT field. They are standard questions you would know if you have any experience.
Trying hard
I'm trying to like Amphion, but the platform is awful. If I could ever get the chance to type, I could really get a good line count, but the filling in the DI screen and constant looking up physicians is killing me. I kept track over one hour, and I had to look up 14 doctors' names and numbers and cc them. And this is going into a separate window and then coming back to the chart, not using just a keystroke to look them up. I love the dictators. They're very clear, and the supervisors are adequate, not overly helpful, but pretty nice. Right now, I'm struggling to make $10 an hour.
Yes, hard at first but
you get used to it. I dropped 2 cents a line, but the company part of the taxes worked out equally. At least I don't have to pay in the quarterly taxes anymore! Not as much freedom but if you are with a good company it helps.
Not that hard
I do the acute care on 2 accounts. What I find with Keystrokes is the accounts I do are not 50/50 ESL. I don't mind ESLs but something is fishy with other companies I have worked for when I get over 50% ESL. I am not making a good living. I can't do it with 90% ESLs and I have 17 years experience.
I am now making a GOOD living and enjoy going to work every day. I have ESLs but they are the average ESLs, not every other dictation and the accent so thick I despair.
I have some hard dictators but I am making a good living and I haven't for over 5 years. I am also not the fastest typist but I am picky, and I am still making a good living. I work on Ex-Text and the Control I is not blocked. That being the case I can check constantly if I want. I am averagin between 1500 and 1700 lines if I turn the TV off, concentrate and work. Like I said, I am not the fastest typist, but I can live with those lines.
Don't be too hard on yourself, we
spend a lot of time researching words/equipment, looking up CC docs, checking old reports to get proper dictation, etc. You have to figure that in.
It really is hard to believe...
I have been gone now for at least a month, and I cant believe how unaffected my life has been. I mean, I wouldnt leave MQ because I was afraid that I would have to start all over again and worry more about income, etc., etc. Well, stupid me, I shoulda, shoulda, ad. infinitum...
Hard to believe.
