Actually, my hire date was October 9 last year
but since it was my first new job in almost 28 years, it was a BIG thing. I left the old job because my beloved boss closed down his practice to join another one, and the other group declined to hire me. Their loss. I was hired by a medium-sized national that just got acquired by a large national. We're 1 month into the new regime (so if we want to get technical, I actually have started a new job in the last 30 days) and the only thing that has really changed so far is the pay period is now twice a month instead of every 2 weeks. I still work the same shift, the same accounts, the same pay rates, the same supervisors and QA people, the same platform, everything.
There's been some grumbling on this board about the new company and how they lure you in with big promises and then you always seem to run out of work, coincidentally just before you achieve the gross pay required per period to be considered full time and thus eligible for benefits. Of course I can only speak for myself, but I haven't seen any such thing, and the only times I have run out of work (briefly) have been on or around holidays. If the work is coming in slowly at any other time, our people actually call the clients and ask them what's going on. (And then they send out e-mails to let us know what's happening.) I work a 32-hour week (by my choice) but probably at least 9 days out of 10, there is enough work that I could work a full 8 hours if I wanted to. (And this pay period I came in at 25 percent over the gross minimum--and I know for a fact my own pay rate is actually on the lower end of the scale, so reaching that minimum is NOT exactly difficult. At least not for me.)
We don't get a lot of extraneous e-mails, only necessary announcements and requests, and we're all on IM so we can always find somebody to help if we have a question. We are also not only encouraged but strongly urged to send ANYTHING doubtful to QA, even if we have to leave 100 blanks in a report. They'd rather have a QA blank than a guess. And QA has NEVER gotten the least bit snarky with me; even when it's been a real duh! mistake on my part, the worst I might get is a smiley face with a gently-worded note pointing out the error.
I have a co-worker who was hired the same day I was, on the same account. She has a neighbor who works for the company that just acquired us, and LOVES it; in fact, she was encouraging my co-worker to jump ship and c'mon over, until we all found out we were all comin' on over anyway, as of April 1.
The cruddiest stores with
always seem to have the most intrusive security. Have you ever noticed that? Go to one of those dollar stores. Those convex mirrors are in every corner. Signs about shoplifting are all over the place. Warnings about ''hidden camera surveillance'' are posted everywhere, as though the place is Ft. Knox.
Higher-end stores may have equivalent security, but they are subtle and don't insult you with their warnings. Must be geared toward the clientele they want to attract. The store where there's nothing worth stealing is blatant; the store where there is good stuff is low-key.
I think the same theory often operates with employers. If I am really annoyed with the process of applying, testing and interviewing, I figure I really won't like working there.
Comments from last year say they are "bad," hire only FT, might use Emdat software, and suppos

Forget the overpriced big box stores
www.tigerdirect.com
You can get XP Pro for $139 (look under software), or you can buy a computer. On the left, look under desktop computers. You won't regret it for the quality and price. I refuse to buy from anyplace else anymore.
Retail and grocery clerks do TOO
pi$$ and moan about working weekends and holidays. If they get scheduled, they don't show up. They don't care if they get fired. They can find another minimum wage/minimum skills job anywhere.
I agree with the other posters. I put my family on hold for a lot of years when I used to make GOOD money at this job. I'm not going to do it any more, especially for LESS pay. Why should I sit around doing nothing all day while my kids are at school and DH is working only to blow them off when they get home? Tell me WHY the doctors need their notes back within 12-24 hours. Most of them DON'T need their medical reports back that quickly unless it's a preop or stat dictation.
As for all the retail and grocery stores being open on holidays, weekends and late nights, well, I don't think that's necessary either. Saturday yes, but Sunday/holidays NO.
I wouldn't quit a decent company for seasonal low work volume.
I'd hang around and see what the New Year brings. I wouldn't say that if you were working for MQ, but I would for a company with a decent reputation. If it is still slow in January, I'd talk to my supervisor and find out what her take is on the situation.
Retail, grocery clerks, etc. are PAID BETTER
Show me some serious money, and I'd be more than happy to forego the weekends and holidays.
my first year I made 16k. Doubled that second year. Going on year 6 with (sm)
two local accounts I earned 23,000.00 and a national I earned 35,400... 58,400 this year. Don't ask me how many hours, though, I really have no idea. I'm pretty motivated. (When people ask me how many hours I work a week I reply as many as it takes I'd say 40-50/week. I am also a fitness instructer and personal trainer, about 5 hours a week or so. Decent money (sometimes under the table!) but mostly I just do it for fun and to be social and wear cute work-out clothes.
that first year was a rough one... but I consider it part of my education.
I'm pretty motivated.
Me too. As soon as there is a little extra work they hire and hire and then noone has any. This
goes on all the time. I get sick to death of it. I think having 2 part time jobs is better so you have 2 jobs to count on.
Last year, there was a letter sent that told us what we earned the previous year. sm
In the past, it has been all or nothing; if you did not hit the lines for full time for the year, you did not get PTO. I talked to my lead this morning about a last-minute vacation and she told me that the yearly packets are going out in a week or so and that the new policy will acrue PTO by the pay period or month. I like that a lot better, but she also made it sound like they are upping the amount of lines needed to acrue PTO. I normally get between 15 and 20,000 lines per pay period, so I am sure that will be fine but I am worried about the periods that have lower volumes, like most of January every year.
Webmedx lets you carry them from year to year sm
You can accrue up to 140 hours (I think) before you stop the accrual process. Don't have to use it all in one year.
I would stick it out, most places are slow now through the end of the year every year (nm)

Does KS only hire employees or do they hire ICs too? nm
x
Last year $36K part time, going to make more this year full time BUT sm
I AGREE it IS getting harder to make money. I used to make $24 very part time 10 years ago and now...well it is Word and platforms versus WP5.1. I got 7.5 cents a byte line then and I get 9.5 cents a character line now. That IS a huge different in point of fact.
OH I WANT MY WORDPERFECT 5.1 BACK!!!!! Bwaaah!
LOL!!! They would hire anyone, they just need to get
YIKES!!!
DSG does hire ICs
hire-on?
no, I took their test on-line though...I am shopping around right now for a fair well-known company with a simple format -- I just want to transcribe and be paid for it, none of this tier stuff
Yes they hire IC as well, which is what
I would suggest as this company is not very loyal to their employees.
Do you know if they hire nm
n
Do they hire FT and PT? Thanks! nm
x
they either over hire or have a lot
of MTs leave because they have been running ads for several months now. I would be leery of that.
Do you know if they hire IC's? nm
x
Yes, they hire ICs.
xx
Why? You want to hire us??
do they only hire FT or do they hire PT as well?
I thought I seen a post somewhere on here that said only FT. I really don't want to work more than 30 hours a week and I know most places cut FT at 32 hours a week. Not that I couldn't put in 2 more hours, but if I had a choice....
Does MDI-MD hire PT
Thanks :)
Also do they all hire from within?
nm
they hire from within if possible. nm
.
they hire only SE's, which is almost
like an IC or independent contractor. Therefore, no, they provide no machine, no benefits, etc. You pay most of your own taxes too.
I believe they do hire ICs
.
new-hire
I just took a position with MD-IT Portland. I am very optimistic about this! It was a much higher line rate than I had with MedQuist, and for now they pay the same for straight transcription as they do for Speech Recognition. They are providing all of my equipment - as I am going to one of their accounts where they do, and it is mostly my favorite work type, ERs.
If you do not do ops they will not hire you.
I hate ops and have never had a problem getting hired and paid decent but this company will not even look at you if you do not all 4 acute care. I wish I liked ops but do not. I applied for this company and this was the first time in my 9 years experience that I have had a company turn me down so their loss as far as I am concerned....
They hire both but I don't believe there are any...sm
benefits other than them paying the taxes for you when your a employee...
They do hire for less than that
They hire PT and there is still
8 hours be done on one weekend day though.
So would you hire....sm
Someone to paint the entire interior of your house - as an independent contractor - and allow him to do it any hours he pleases as long as he does some painting every 24 hours?
no, but I would hire
someone to paint the exterior of my house - as an independent contractor - and allow her to do it any hours she pleases as long as she does a previously arranged percentage of my house within a 24-hour time period. I think this is closer to the way being an IC works. At least, this is how it is for me. I have to complete x number of lines within 24 hours, but whether I do it in the first hour or the last hour or anything in between is up to me.
Do they only hire ICs?
x
Why hire me just to get rid of me?
Bizarre. I don't think that's it but who knows at this point.
New Hire
I have 2 years experience and passed their test the first time and was recently hired. I have heard bad and good. I intend to do my job and as long as I am compensated for my work, it is a job.
REMEMBER THE COUNTRY'S UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IS IN THE DOUBLE-DIGITS PRESENTLY AND BE THANKFUL YOU CAN FIND A JOB.
do you know if they hire prn?
x
Why would you hire on as an IC
Not sure I'm following you?
They don't hire PT
Somebody said they should hire me to do PR. :)
But seriously... I was exactly where you folks are, not quite 6 months ago... working for a company that I really loved, one that treated us all very well and actually kept every single promise they made (go figure), and then to find out we were being sold to another company....
Yep. Some real Maalox moments there, and some real fear and loathing going on in TRS land. They assured us until they were blue in the face that nothing was going to change for us. I do know that a couple of people on my team quit, although they could have quit for other reasons; I don't really know.
Now, some 5 months later, I am happy to report that I'm still sitting here working the exact same accounts, on the same platform, and actually for higher pay. Go figure. I thought that sort of thing wasn't supposed to happen in this racket..... :D
7.5-8 cpl -see post below for 9.5 new hire
I don't understand it! Someone else said they were just hired at 9.5 cpl and the production plan was different. If this is MQ's idea of making things more consistent ----- well, I just don't know! They are going to lose A LOT of people at this rate!
They will not hire MTs living in CA or CT.
nm
Do they hire ICs or employees?
LOL!!! Of course they did. OSi wishes they could hire 2 MTs
Too funny!
Does Medware hire PT? IC?
Does Medware hire IC?
nm
Does Spheris ever actually hire?
Because I have applied several times, and have never received so much as an email from them. Weird, because I usually hear back from everyone I apply with.
TIA!
