Your post has brightened my day
It's nice to know I'm not the only oldster around. I hate the verbatim thing, extremely hard for me to learn to conform. In the old days we were expected to know what we were doing and do it. I think the verbatim probably came from MTs just out of school who edited to the point of not knowing what they were talking about. Like dysphagia and dysphasia, one letter, big difference. Then the issue of the race to the bottom. Quality, I think, gets sacrificed because....company #1 says I can do your MT for X cents per line, then company #2 says, Well *I* can do it for x less cents per line and so on. It does; however, put what few good companies that are left in a precarious position. They either have to compete or belly up and who suffers? Well...the MTs of course. Not to mention the alleged need for lead MTs, editors, Q.A., supervisors and everything in between that are not revenue producing and guess where those salaries have to come from? Well....the MT's work of course. In the old days the only thing between the MT and the chart was the dictating PHYSICIAN and I dare say quality was better in those days too. As I said, I've always loved my work and so keep right on doing it whether I have to or not. I've started my day with some doctor's voice in my ears for so many years I probably couldn't function otherwise. LOL

And then on the side of the companies....how many MTs these days see that the account is out of TAT and pitch in to help, with or without being asked? I doubt I'm the only one but when I hire on with a company, I feel to an extent their business is my business. If I don't help them with whatever their needs may be, their accounts are going to be in jeopard and again, who suffers? Why the MT of course. Sorry for the rant, I'm not feeling well today but I surely am feeling grouchy!
