sounds harsh, but...

If your work was not up to par in a job setting outside of your home would you be allowed to continue in that position? I really doubt it, at least I have not seen it at any place I ever worked at before I became an MT who worked from home. I am sorry for your situation, but you cannot realistically expect an employer to carry you because of personal issues. They are paying you to work. If your work is not cutting it then they have every right to let you go. Best of luck to you. Hope things turn around soon.

that was a little harsh
Lots of career moms go to work everyday and place their children in reputable childcare. There are also moms out there who are home all the time with their kids and they'd get better care elsewhere. Perhaps the OP has a supportive family nearby that would be willing to help out.
I think your comments were very judgmental and not helpful at all.
Harsh?
I would never sit around and so ho-hum and it's the fault of the company. What should I have said?
Please. No one needs to sit around in this industry if there are plenty of jobs posted. One man's trash is another man's treasure.
Instead of feeling sorry for ourselves, why not find a better job? We're not worth it?
I'm not one to sugar coat. We can't be lazy. We have to look for a better job if there's no work.
That was a little harsh!
I never post on here when someone is being rude to a fellow MT, but I have to put in my 2 cents here. You are right, however, when you say that Christmas bonuses are a thing of the past. I've been in this business for many years, and have seen the decline in pay and respect. I would recommend picking up something part-time to offset the slow times rather than up and quitting. Most of us are in the same boat, and it is being felt everywhere, not just in the MT business. We should be here to encourage one another, not discourage. I, for one, am luckier than some of my friends and family who have been forced out of a job due to downsizing or companies being shut down completely. I wish everyone the best for this holiday season, and to focus on everything there is to be thankful for in this recession!!
Wow, that was harsh
Geesh
Harsh
I am a Synernet employee and found the post to be harsh. I don't see an inner circle, I saw friends and co-workers who supported another in a time of need. I also do not feel like a robot and of step child. I have never been denied time off. I may have had to make up time if it was a busy time of year, but never been denied. Instead of complaining, let's be grateful that (a) you have a job and (b) you are not the person in charge of 90+ transcriptionist, their time off schedules, the system and the one answering emails and phone calls and dealing with MTs issues and customer issues. Discussing MT issues is one thing but attacking a person who lost a loved one is going to far.
Oh, really harsh you say
Direct quote from that post: into an even lower-paid position as a VR editor. In the latter case, the MT's knowledge is devalued even further. I have no problem editing or knowing how people unfamiliar with VR thinks someone right off th street could do. What would be hard about reading along on a report?? I stand behind all I said.
Seems a bit harsh. Obviously, since others have tested with no sm
problem, must be your issue. As I recall, the instructions say to call or email if you have any problems. Perhaps it is you who should READ.
Wow..too harsh for me.. I mean I think I know what the heck I'm doing but maybe I really don't
what the heck I am doing, according to her. This ad is a crackup. Any ideas on who is it?
Wow, that was unnecessarily harsh.
She was just asking a simple question. If all you are going to do is bash the person for asking, don't respond.
Yes, it would be a HIPPA violation if her husband is able to see the patient's information, i.e. name, medical record #, etc.
Sorry you got bashed for asking.
That's not harsh. Some people just
The husband could be a partner. I had my husband do my deliveries when I wasn't allowed to drive after surgery and no one questioned this as a violation. They were glad he did it. And my husband could care less whose names are on those papers; really in all honesty.
Furthermore, who really knows who is sending the work at any given time. There was another poster here that said her nephew delivered tapes to a subcontractor and left in the screen door. I mean come on? Was that a violation? NOT!
not harsh at all; it's time.
nm
I agree you got some harsh replies.
Not sure why some people feel they need to give a reply when all they wish to express is their own irritability. I'm guessing the tone of their replies has nothing to do with the question. At least, I saw nothing unusual or annoying about your post. But I can't answer your question either.
Okay, don't be harsh, need info on Amphion, sm
saw the posts from below, not happy, but not enough for me to say hey or nay. Where I am coming from I know it can't be worse but I really want a good fit. Thanks for all who can inform me.
Wendy....Post a bit harsh
Maggie, your post was a bit harsh. Yes there are those who whine and complain, but a lot comes with experience to include whining and complaining. As well, you really do not know what financial situation an MT may be experiencing. While, I agree with most of what you state, I find that you lack compassion for those who may not have the experience and knowledge that you do. I cannot say enough about the mentors/teachers I have had along the way. I had only one bad experience over the past 16 years working at home as an MT.. I have found work that may not be a good fit for the company or for me, software that is not productive for MTs (which can be cumbersome, time consuming, and frustrating), companies selling to another company, companies going out of business, losing business, etc., etc. I have considered all an experience that has contributed to the work I do. As well, without a doubt, you can have the greatest work ethic, but if your work for someone who does not share the same work ethic, or value the fact that you are generating money for them as well as yourself, what is it truly worth? Be kind, be gentle to those that whine and complain and perhaps your shared experience will provide growth for another MT.
Your comments are awful harsh considering
you missed the ENTIRE point of her post.
I can only hope you edit reports with better comprehensive skills than you used in reading that post.
She wasnt being harsh, just giving another point of
nm
yeah, after rereading my posts they are kind of harsh.
and I am sorry for being harsh. I still have my opinion and will stand behind Transcend. But my apology is to JMO. He/she was the only civil one, debating more than fighting. I cannot bring myself to apologize to the other attackers, however, who were just as unruly as myself while hiding their names from the public.
I do agree with the above poster who said we should just let it go. We all seem to feel strongly in our opinions but we've hashed it out as much as it should/could be.
Sorry again.
If you call being ripped off for more than 5 grand harsh & scary?
grow some guts. Unfortunately, this is profession has become a cut throat business, and if harshness is what it takes to get paid, then so be it. We are all just trying to survive here on the piddling pennies with which we are compensated. This MT is an extremely dedicated, hard-working MT whose business has been destroyed by ***********not paying for services rendered. It's unconscionable. It is not meant to be a threat, but rather a forewarning of what it yet to come.
It may be harsh, but it is true. Too many people come into transcription with false sm
expectations. They expect to get paid to stay home, watch their kids, work when they want, make a fortune after 6 months of correspondence courses.
It takes more than that to be a good MT and a heck of a lot more than that to be a great MT.
With this economy, it would pay to fine-tune skills, work on typing speed, learn new specialties. The best will survive and I intend to stay one of the best.
Not everyone is good at everything.
sure sounds swell. Sounds like 2350 ln/day @ 4 cents/ln=$90./day
in order to figure how many line needs to be produced to make $500 per pay period. ie, how many lines an hour needed per 8 hour day --at your rate.
So say $450 a week would be $90 a day.
For example, if making 4 cents a line, need 2,250 lines a day, 281 an HOUR (to listen through and edit) to make this great wage of $90. a day FOR ALL THIS SAME SKILL, TO KEEP UPDATED WITH CHANGING MEDICAL COMMUNITY. nope Better at Jack-in-Box Pass it up.
Sounds like it and it sounds like you must tell them when they will be and no change them. Wonder
what you do when there is no work. Well, there will be a lot of problems with this whole plan if they dont get things straightened out with this no work situation.
um, only 1 harsh reply; the other 3 were in reply to the 1
nm
Sounds like I'm the same age as you!

Sounds like she was trying to -sm
make you quit - probably because they overhired and have too many people. She probably thought she could bully you out the door and have one less person to have to deal with. I wonder if she treats others like that too.
I bet so. Sure sounds like them!!

must know this owner pretty well to be bashing him this way. How is it you have come to such an opinion? Did you work in an office with him? I would be very anxious to hear more of your scholarly declarations such as the answer to ending world hunger and obtaining world peace? Please, tell us more oh "wise" one....
exactly what I was trying to say! It sounds like they sm
are on the right track! Good luck to them.
That sounds exactly like OSi.
nm
sounds like mq
There is always someone telling everyone what excellent accounts they have, perfect sound, TONS of work....hmmmm....well, I guess it's nice that SOMEBODY is going to be able to pay the rent cause it sure ain't me.
Sounds about right, maybe even a little low. nm
nm
Sounds low to me (sm)
I made $3.00 page several years ago. With wages lowering each and every day for the MTs, maybe someone else would like to share their thoughts. Good luck!
It sounds like they are not
very technical-savvy if they need MTs to come in for training! I'd be looking elsewhere.
They can only say no, but it sounds like they can't...
...afford to lose you. YOU are in the catbird seat. Ask for the raise. Really. Do it, and best of luck.
Sounds like BTS in MA. sm
They will take 6 weeks to send you a paycheck for 2 weeks pay, trim 30% off your line counts to supposedly cover headers/footers, and stiff you for your last check if you leave. Leave while you are ahead if it is them.
wow. Sounds like you been there, done that. Thanks for

it might be what they call a vacation -- I wouldn't know really though, haven't had one in so long.

the company I work for now meets those criteria. Email me if you'd like.
This sounds exactly like the what the
well trained office staff is supposed to say to negativity about the company. I worked for TC for awhile and learned the ins and outs. If you don't mind being overworked, underpaid, all the cherrypicking going on and don't question anything then this is a great company to work for. Not to mention if you are on the CEOs good side and work in the office you get paid trips to Disneyland for your whole family, and can give the MTs as much grief as you want and nothing is said. But if you do mind all this stuff, then as the first poster said run as fast as you can.
Sounds like....

OMG! Sounds just like MQ! lol

Sounds just like what my sm
husband has through work only the deductible is 1000.00 for in network, 2000.00 out of network. No payout until deductible is met, except for office visits. Unfortunately, only one of my doctors is in his network. None of my specialists are. And, the PPO network is very restricted. But we do have prescriptions. It used to be John Deere Healthcare. Now it is United Healthcare.
It sounds rather -
.
Thank you...that sounds better!
I could definitely live with that! I'm glad I asked more questions. Is Carlotta nice to talk to? That's who I would be speaking with and she seems nice. Do you get samples or are able to see old reports for the ESLs or any difficult dictator? That helps a lot, too. Thank you!
sounds like maybe........
the police should get involved in this case. Too bad I do not know her, or I would definitely think about getting her and that other lady SOME jail time! Would serve them right, and then throw away the key!
Sounds like one to me
nm
Sounds like
the same company I tried before this one, trained 1 days, worked 2 days, both with no work and quit.
It sounds like
somebody already figured the lines to be subtracted at 133 . . . is that gross lines from the original counting method? If so, then you would need to figure it based on 65-char so as not to cheat yourself. It could be quite a difference, especially when considering the weekly or monthly amount.
Also, if it were me I would tell them that my 65-character count line rate is higher than my gross lines rate (by at least 2 cpl), and that that is standard practice, which it is.
