Sybil (Shirley Ardell Mason) was not a true multiple. She actually had what you might call a hysterical personality, and the notion of switching personalities was given to her by her psychiatrist.
Chris Sizemore, on the other hand, actually had dissociative personality disorder. She's the person that the movie The Three Faces of Eve was based. In reality, I think she had about 16 different personalities. Her autobiography was quite enlightening.
