are on their system, whether or not you know they are doing it...they watch. Even if you exceed your line count in say, 4 hours, they will hound you for not being on the system for at least 6.

They call us teams - yeah, right. The games played by those in management positions can essentially hold an MT as a financial hostage, making their life a living hell. Is it really necessary that you print ALL of it out?
When the company I work for sent me the account specifics and the list of physicians for my account (in total about 300 pages), I made shortcuts on my desktop for easy access so I wouldn't have to use so much paper and ink. Worked great for me.
How was your acct at Amphion? I have a HORRIBLE acct...
I am new to Amphion and have this account that has a lot of account specifics, no automatic ADT (which means I have to search for the names, etc) which is not a problem for me, but there is one dictator who is ALWAYS awful, and I have been getting him back to back to back my first week with Amphion. Did you find that you basically only had 1 or 2 dictators while there or did you have more? Of course, I would not mind doing him occasionally but can't do this all day. I will never be able to make any money, especially at the line rate that I am being paid. I have 2 children of my own and 3 of my sister's children in my care. I cannot afford to do this everyday and don't know what to do. I work as an IC for another company making 9 cents a line, which is much more than Amphion, but really wanted employee status so was willing to make a little less, but I am afraid it is not going to work. I do not want to have to find yet another company and start all over with them to only find out that they suck too. Any suggestions?
Can't you print out an IM 'conversation?'
If so, this could help for documentation. Or screen print into word and print with the day and time. This equals documentation, too, I believe. Someone, correct me if I'm wrong.
Look at the print out of the doc list they sent you, or
look up the doc list on the hospital web site and use search. Otherwise, go to the doc information screen where the doc number is put in (for example on the cc) and then do a search there by doc last name sounding it out. Don't forget to delete the cc and then you can go back into the document. Hope it helps. Good luck.
I think you should print this letter out and
-- and maybe a newspaper or a TV station or two. The reason these people are getting away with ducking the law is that they think no one can see them do it. (And we're all 'nobodys', so we don't count). If this post just stays on this forum, only other MTs will read it. This needs to be read by the general public, and some of our lawmakers, as well.
This was an excellent post, and needs to be read by as many people as possible.
PS: My company pulls this one on us, too. Only instead of asking for overtime, since they know they'd have to pay us, they raise the number of minimum lines per day we have to do, and tell us to work harder, work faster. But then they throw a trip line into the works by tweeking the software to the point where it's as slow as molasses, or by giving us accounts with heavy ESLs and no samples or normals to work from.
I think all these folks need to spend some time in a cell with Bernie Madhoff.

Read the fine print in the agreement - sm
I am very upset about it because I was told when I signed up that MT was not a problem, but if you read through the agreement, it clearly states that if they determine you are using the service for anything other than normal residential usage, based on what other residential customers use, they will change your plan to the talk 30 plan, which for me would cost about $60 dollars/day to use. I have also heard of other MTs being given pretty large bills. Honestly, I can't sleep at night!

I was told by the office to use my own printer and ink to print out
I guess I would have to foward it to my personal email and then print from there. That printer ink is EXPENSIVE! More than postage. Why didn't they just mail everything to us??? Whose money are they using? The MT's who keep them in business??
Luckily, I ALWAYS print out my time sheet, so...
that will be my proof, I suppose. Needless to say, 40 hours is IT for me, lines or no lines. And now I need to start looking AGAIN for a better job, if such a thing even exists. Don't bother lauding TT - been there and done that and with the honesty about them of late I won't go there. But any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I am told is less money but definitely NOT as low as $36,500. I would not do it for $36,500.
The majority that I hear and see (and many are not advertised) are around $45K. You are giving yourself away for that. You might be working for a company that I received an offer from at one time. Great people but could not afford to work for that kind of money. Way too low to be on call 24/7.

I have had a positive one. I have been with Keystrokes for 3 months and am very happy.
I printed them to show my manager but she told me that there are few bitter people out there and no one can do anything about them. My manager said that everyone can tell that it is the same few over and over again, for Keystrokes and a few other companies as well. Time to move on Ms. Anon. I cannot think why a company would go through the trouble of getting IDs and getting you installed just to ignore you after that. Doesn't make sense, does it? Are you sure that't the whole truth? You keep saying truth but it sounds fishy.

Do yourself a huge favor. If you don't have a scanner, buy one! I keep a handwritten log and at the end of the day I just scan it into an email. You certainly don't need another screen to contend with.

Daily Work and TAT sm
I just started a new IC position last Monday. I had one day with some work last week (due to holiday) and yesterday there was nothing and today a 2 minute job. The company says they do not know when or who will dump the jobs. The TAT is 24 hours and work could be dumped any time of day. I report for work at about 7 a.m. Do you just sit around all day waiting for work? Should there be a cut-off time when it's too late to start? We do have lives too. What would you do? No other job expects you to wait around without being paid. I must be thick or something. Thanks for the input.

It is probably just the holidays. Just hang in there. I have a very flexible schedule, so I know what you mean about waiting all day. I am home all day (homebody) and like the fact that I can check in, work when needed and get my house clean, take care of my kids and cook, etc in between time. I work for a GREAT MTSO and have never had an out of work situation until the holidays. It will pick up. :)

I saw the daily report
yesterday that said nothing was nefarious and that this is supposedly normal. I can tell you, I do not remember it being slow at this time of year either. Part of me wonders if like someone else had posted that some of the accounts are not starting to give their work to other vendors. Another part of me wonders if they are doing this to get people to quit so they can hire on people at lower rates. I mean it would stay in line with their value of money.

I used to get 2000+ daily with one hospital
oh my god that work rocked! It was 95% normals and work was plentiful. Imagine, ortho reports that were 2 pages long and all you had to do was type in your little Expander shortcut and poof there was the whole report whenever the dictator said Please use my _____ report. Ka-ching!
Ahhhh...the salad days. I remember them with such a sad fondness...it was the kind of thing that was just so good you just knew it wouldn't last.

Running out of work daily
We have started running out daily, a lot of the time when I sign on in the morning there is no work on my primary, maybe not even secondary. Our supervisor has asked many to switch shifts, to work the night shift and I know 10 or so have done so. It seems we were getting out of TAT in the evenings, so NOW it is over compensated and there is not much during the day, before noon, anyway. Used to work 8-10 hours OT every week, now that is down to 5-6 or less hours OT. I don't know what to do. I need my hours and some OT, too. Can't work nights.

Yes it is QA's job - and they send feedback daily
Every day, hand typed, sent to the supervisor, who then passes it onto the MT.
Of course, many of the errors are seen time and time again because the MTs either:
A) don't read the feedback
B) don't care
C) both of the above

I lead a few accounts and have been training on a new one that starts in a few days. The phone number has not changed in 5 years and it should still forward from the old one. This site takes off phone numbers if we post them, so please email me.
Not only are they still in business, but still growing. I spoke with someone there today that said that they doubled in size last year and will this year too.

I definately know I have a great situation job-wise. I'm also definately not one to groan and moan about life/job/bills, though I didn't really do that when I was making half of what I make now either. Sometimes I think a lot of success has to do with attitude. If I wasn't so nose to the grindstone and instead spent a good part of my time dwelling on the not so great parts of being an MT or about life in general, I definately could not be as successful or productive.
I realize that I may not be the norm, however do want everyone to know that it is possible. There are good companies out there and there are ways to make yourself successful and highly productive.

You might be able to get enough work if your hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. but there is no work in the morning and at night I watch 40 to 50 jobs disappear all at once and I have nothing left to do.
Editing daily line count
What is considered a good hourly line count for editing? I'm being asked this by a service....but our hospital pays by the hour and by report, not by lines. I'm trying to come up with a reasonable number. Thanks for your help!

I'm serious. Are there any companies IC or employee with a daily line requirement of around 800 or so? I seriously lose concentration after that but I love to transcribe.
