Can anyone comment on your Acusis conference call today? Hoping you're all still gainfully
s
I think you're giving all these companies the same grade and that (sm)
is not the case. There are some that will rip you off, change your pay, etc. like one mentioned above on this board. There are other evil ones who will intimidate to get their work done and others who will tell you how fantastic you are and give raises.
Anyway, I've worked for enough companies and found a world of difference and found some companies to be intolerable.
Can't anyone give the OP the names of any companies? They aren't asking for a psychology lesson, they are looking to make a paycheck.
What companies cut you off at 40 hrs if you're a FT employee? Any places let you do as much as
g
You're both missing the point. The companies
are breaking IRS laws when they do this. Employees are provided equipment; ICs provide their own. I know mechanics, and it works the same way with them. They may choose to own their own tools out of preference or so they can do work outside their employee job, but in an employee setting they are provided.
:-) If you're not happy there, there are hundreds of other companies.
Truth: There is no Lanier equipment on my account; there obviously still is on yours.
Truth: If you don't want to work extra, you don't have to, and you can't say that you have been forced to. Yes, naturally, if the account is behind, the owner is going to ask for folks to help out if they are available.
Truth: Contact with the recruiter virtually ceases after your initial QA period unless you just want to email to chat.
The recruiter also is responsible for putting a team together for starting new accounts, but after the account is up and running, the recruiter has nothing to do with the day-to-day operation of the account. I have been involved in 2 new account start-ups myself (by invitation and with my agreement), and the client specs have been updated as issues came up and were addressed.
I concur with the other poster who suggested that you contact Dorothy with concerns about the recruiter (although, if you're off QA, why is that even an issue?) and your account liaisons with concerns about not having updated account specs.
Meantime, I'll get back to work. :) If any readers would like to email with specific questions, please feel free.
The companies are selling America out we're

Goodness, they're both awful companies. Why compare them at all?
Obviously, you're all nice people - both companies are blessed to have you
I've seen so many ugly remarks on this website that I was actually afraid to even post for opinions - but each and every one of you have been honest and most of all respectful. I didn't get the response - look in the archives. I think that is a rude and nonchalant response. To answer the question and give YOUR opinion, shows concern. This is a difficult field and somehow instead of cutting each other down, we need to pull together. I'm taking this opportunity to thank each one of you who took the time to respond.
setting a bad name
Please dont allow this poster to set a bad name for all of us that didn't graduate from Andrews I believe you are what you make of yourself, and the effort you put into what you do reflects on who you are, not what school you went to. This poster should quit making excuses for his/her bad luck.
I still think you are setting yourself up (sm)
to be the PAYEE to this woman when her attorneys get done with you. You need to take this up in the correct place, not on an anonymous board. You still haven't answered the question - WHAT have you done, or your friend (besides threatening here) to secure payment? Did you do the formal demand letter? Have you notified the courts? Filed the complaints? You can threaten and post all you want, but it's not going to get your money. Do the right thing - you are not sounding very professional or mature in your handling it. Sorry, but that's the impression you are leaving.
I think that setting a $$ amt for FT is ... sm
ridiculous. I don't understand why it can't be hours worked, i.e. 40 hours if FT or 36 hours, or whatever. Their reasoning for not having a line amount anymore was because of VR, but an hour is an hour whatever way you look at it.
They're not listed on MTD's Companies list. Maybe do a Yahoo search? nm
s
I think that's what it is - a speaker setting.
I can certainly understand their needing their hands free; I hear them on the computer all the time, usually just hitting one key repeatedly as they look for lab findings. But that's when I have the most blanks, when I can hear the nurses and clerical people talking better than the dictator.
I see nothing wrong with them setting a
time frame for when you can or cannot work. The IC is not the only one working, and all MTSOs need coverage at specific times. If they advertise for an IC for weekends or nights only, then that is when they need the coverage. If they have 10 people on 8 to 5, then they don't need anyone else then, only for shifts they need covered.
On the pay matter, yes, they have the right to say we are going to pay xx cpl. You then have the right to counter back or not take the position.
Just because you are an IC does not mean you can work for whatever pay you want or whatever hours you want. You can pick the hours within the timeframe they need someone and you can decide what pay you will accept. They just cannot hold you to specific hours, only a certain timeframe.
At my IC job, I work at night and have until 6 a.m. the next morning to get my work back. I can begin whenever they send the work and not do any of it until 3 a.m. if I so desire. However, I cannot tell my manager that I will work 10 a.m. to ??. If she does not need the coverage she is not required to meet my specifications.
Happens in the home setting also
More than you would imagine. Tons of management paid to slough off their work to the idiots who take it.
Thanks for setting my mind somewhat

D&L setting the record straight
I posted this below - but moved it up so it does not get lost in the soup.
I understand that I may have been a pain in the butt - but business is business. I have left D&L so feel free to go back to work or continue if you enjoyed / enjoy it. I won't be bothering you anymore. I left D&L, I was not fired or let go, and my concerns are valid to me - does not matter to anyone else. so any problems they may have should be reevaluated by those applying. I do not see them going downhill - I have not heard anything negative, and personally - the people who work there the worker bees - are a great group of people that I would keep on my friends list. And they do have plenty of work, the pay is compatible. My personal feelings and opinions have nothing to do with the co-workers or the IC trans - or the work they offer. So again, I guess when I left I did them a favor and took the problems with me - or not. So now you all can get back to getting the scoop on the employer and not the employees.
As for those of you who say I was the beast I do not recall bringing anyone on for a short time, or having problems with any transcriptionist. All Transcriptionist at D&L have been long term employees, if they did the work. I am in frequent contact with many who are still there - on a different level of course, and had you been made to feel bad, you should speak up - this not only for those who dealt with me, but with anybody. I know that without good transcriptionists, a transcription company is not going to make it.
So again, my aologies if I hurt your feelings, work is work, and to get a paycheck I did my job. So again, try to get information on the company, not the employees, but also use your better judement in order to run the company you own - as an IC. I appreciate everyones comments on my performance etc at D&L, no hard feelings. If that is the reason why so many of you had problems, go back - they are hiring and I am not there.
Setting the record straight here, sm
I used a poor term, cheesy, because that is what these unthankful people used in THEIR posts, some called their own gifts lame and said things like it stinks to work for a company who sends out dollar gifts, I wish were more appreciated, or I'd rather have cash.
I wasn't meaning it in any way other than OTHER people come here complaining about their companies, complaining about their gifts, and I thought maybe it would be nice to let them know that Diskriter is a company that values their employees. EVERY year I have been here I have gotten a bonus, as has everyone else who qualified by years of service. My gosh ladies and gentleman, get over yourselves.
I was not bragging, only saying I am happy at my company and feel they value all of their employees.
It could be a setting. Ask your employer to check it. nm

Setting the record straight
I have been with All Type for quite some time and never had any problem with management or pay - EVER. A contract is a legally binding document for both the company and the MT and not so easily broken as you portray. The employee handbook and the contract that are signed by employees have very specific production requirements. These have been in place for 3 years that I personally know of and not changed. There are 2 sides to every story and I wonder if you would care to share if you were actually meeting those requirements or if what you are saying happened occurred because you did not meet them?
Any company out there that allows you work without setting a schedule?
I am looking to pick up some extra cash but cannot really commit to a set schedule. There are a few times a week when I have a few hours (especially on the weekends) that I could type and would love to do some extra work.
If IC lets co. use her as employee, setting sched,

I love you. Thanks for setting my mind at ease.
Thank you so much. You don't know how much your post has helped during this difficult time in my life.
I believe the speed setting varies with platform
Some are actually able to increase the speed more than other platforms, I believe. That might explain the difference.
I use the Escription/Editscript platform and love it. I have to admit I am blessed with a great account that has some truly excellent dictators and I've no doubt that makes a huge difference.
I think VR is something one either loves or hates. I'm apparently in the minority that love (as do my hands and wrists and shoulders!).
I spent years in the hospital setting
had no clue about working from home, did not know there were companies even doing transcription from home. What also gets me is the fact that people will state they do not have work, sitting by waiting for it to come in, working all kind of weird hours to make a line count. It is no wonder and the MTers are to blame if the companies take advantage of them because they let them. How one can wait on work day after day is a mystery to me.
Thanks for setting the record straight. I was going to apply with them but that scared me off. NM
Don't listen!
Trust me, honey. If you want to find out about OSi, you don't need to be reading this board. All of the "ex-OSIers" get on here and criticize OSi for trying to weed out the bad employees and become a better company. They make assumptions of upper management when they really have NO IDEA. Then they wonder why THEY aren't invited to the home office parties or why OSI doesn't take their "parties" on the road. Well, I'll tell you why...because OSI doesn't want people like them at their parties. Would you want someone that does nothing but criticize you to come to your parties? I think NOT!
If you're really interested in working with OSI, this is not the place to research. OSI is a wonderful company and they treat their employees with respect. Some will tell you that OSI shorts them on lines, OSI gives the easy dictators to their "favorites", and so on and so on, but if you believe that then you're just as ignorant as the people saying it. OSI is growing VERY rapidly and will only continue to grow. If they really were doing all of this stuff, there's no way they would be where they are today. So--don't listen to all of the nonsense on these posts. It's nothing but a bunch of unintelligent people getting together to complain because they have nothing better to do with their time.
Well we know what it is really like and if they want to listen to em, then they
are passing up a great opportunity.
I am happy here. I guess that is all that counts.
You don't listen
You are not understanding. I was never told that they weren't hiring. I was told she was too busy to hire. Didn't you read my initial post??!! Also, there were many other things going on besides that. Like I said, I am not putting their business in the streets, just a fair warning. Oh, and by the way, I am not an MT.
Yes, but 100% listen
so it is really a cut in pay for me.
Don't listen to them...sm
I've used Meditech with rad before and averaged $25/hr. Just depends on how lines are counted, etc. You know how it is. It all depends on the company/client.
That's not VR. On VR, you have to listen to
every report the whole way through and make corrections throughout the report, and there are generally a lot of corrections to be made because VR isn't what it's cracked up to be. VR will never be able to go straight through to the client without a complete listen/edit. I think you're thinking of QA, not VR (voice recognition reports). QAs fill blanks and/or do full listens/grading AFTER the MT has already either transcribed or fully edited the VR report.
Listen to this
I just got to work (am on the West Coast) and all of my accounts are packed full of work. This after nearly two months of famine. I am not complaining, just amazed.
The setting your own schedule thing varies. For example, physicians who work in the ER may be
independent contractors, rather than employees, if they are moonlighting on weekends or whatever. But notice they are told what hours to work... There's no way to keep a transcription service alive with people working whatever hours they feel like whenever they feel like. That's just not reasonable.
I tell people the same thing, that was told me....and you 5 years in a hospital setting to be able t
nm
don't listen to these people
find out for yourself. There's a whole lot of MTs at MQ that have been 'around the block' a few times and have been w/them for years. MQ is the biggest for more than a few reasons, one being that they have more to offer.
I just don't want to have to listen to the whining when this happens, as you know it will. nm

careful what you listen to
You might want to find out from someone who knows. Call the office, check what the TAT log says. There is work, they have been doing overtime on many accounts. If that person posting isn't working, it is because they aren't trying to. There was just an email sent around that if you account was slower you could do a different platform, etc. Can't blame the company for this one - blame the one who sits back and waits for the company to come to them. Don't have to, too many others who are stepping up to the plate!
You should listen up to Listenup.
Listen, there is some truth to some of this
I just left spheris. I do not have anything bad to say about them. I simply woke up one day and decided to give my notice without having another job. I left 2 weeks ago, and today I accepted a job offer. I simply did not like working for Spheris. Nothing bad to say, but the reports I pulled for samples from India had a lot of typos. Whole pages were crossed out and medications spelled wrong. That is the truth. I often wondered how do they reach 98% accuracy. I really do not think the MTs in India could maintain 98% quality. My guess is they probably are not required to maintain any accuracy, because every report I pulled was really, really messed up.
Teletrak? did anyone listen to the
tapes on their site? They have voice files right there to listen or download.
I agree... but listen sm
The big nationals who underpay and push things through... nobody hires them anymore except for the most impossible hospital accounts. They are not going to last very long. Also, the best thing to do is for the companies to demand quality MTs and editors, pay well and take less profit, get better paying accounts.
Listen please. I've been at this many many
years. MDI is not DOING anything to you. I am confident they are not over-hiring. The doctors have to DICTATE consistently for there to be consistent work. It was just a few weeks ago with MDI that I didn't even take a day off for weeks as we were so busy. This morning, my accts are extremely low to empty. This business fluctuates, people, depending upon holidays, hospital deadlines, bla bla bla. Try to relax. It will not be this slow for long. I can tell you though, when the work was heavy, I felt almost alone out there -- very few people seemed willing to pitch in. I take the attitude to make hay while the sun shines. You newbies to MDI, if you'll just hang in there, I am confident you will be glad you did. Those that can't afford to, being this is SE status, you are certainly free to get back-up acct's with other companies for security. And don't neglect to talk with your liaisons, or even the recruiter. Let them know your needs/concerns. Things may look scary if you are new, but it is my firm belief that MDI will take care of you like no other company, and CARES like no other. Do what you have to, but I recommend hanging in there.
Listen to your second thoughts
As an employee, if your line counts is low for what ever reason, this puts your health insurance in jeopardy and happens too often. I would stay as IC.
You don't want to listen to this poster.
Really, it would be decent advice--except that you don't want to have anything whatsoever to do with Softscript! Try any other company but them. This person posting is either SS management or has never worked for them.
Used to use this in a hospital setting, admin could change the number of characters per line (sm)
at one point they had us typing an 80 character line. Talk about zapping your line rates down. Of course we worked for an hourly rate so it really didn't matter, just management's way of pushing us to do more. They only required 800 lines per day for a FT MT so they were trying to get their moneys worth I guess.
This person is management - do not listen to
them!! They most certainly will as it happened to me!! I did a great job, but took time off due to a family emergency. DO NOT LISTEN TO THE ABOVE POSTER!! PLEASE!! SHE IS KNOWN TO POST HERE ALL DAY!!
Thank goodness you are all starting to listen!!!
None of what was posted on the board was to stir the pot but rather save a bunch of wonderful MTs that are being messed with. It is so true and I would look for another position ASAP.
They said we couldn't have people listen in - sm
nothing at all was said about discussing it afterward, and we were told all things regarding this merger were supposed to be 'open & transparent', & that no one would be kept in the dark. We're all entitled to our opinions.
