It's called bills, bills, bills.
Have kids, work early mornings and evenings on the weekends and still get to spend time with them. During the week early mornings, 5 hours while they are in school, then again after they are in bed. You do what you have to in this economy - and really at all times. Never did work 9-5 on M-F.
This is healthcare. Most of us work with hospital accounts and the hospitals are open 24/7. Shifts at the hospital are 7-3:30, 3 - 11:30, 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Don't see very many 9-5 M-F shifts there, do ya?
Loyalty?
How can you be loyal to a company that took your work and sent it offshore and then turns around and blames you for the poor quality! The fact of the matter is, they took a good company, got greedy and offshored for cheaper MTs and LIED about it, to everyone!!!! Now, they are paying the price! She didn't show any of us MTs any loyalty when she decided to offshore; heck, she lied continuously about it for months, so how can you have any loyalty for her? For those of you who have been having low work volumes, why do you think that is? It's because the offshore company is promised a set amount of work, so they get the work first, then the loyal MTs get what's left! Think about how far things have gone down hill in the past years. Dust off those resumes girls
I go by loyalty s/m
The company that overall treats me the best takes first priority for me.
Loyalty
Loyalty should go 2 ways. If they value you as an MT and cannot keep you busy enough so that you need 2 jobs, they should not object to your saying you would love to help them out on that particular day, but you have a prior commitment. They do not need to know you are working 2 jobs.
Co. out for $, no loyalty to anyone. We should also

Loyalty to MDI
I have been in this business 17 years, half of that time running my own service until people kept undercutting to the point it was not profitable. Before that worked for a major Fortune 500 company that has laid people off for the last 20 years all while increasing the salaries and bonuses of the top executives (I was laid off 3 separate times, dh is still there but after 35 years now has to work a terrible shift to keep his job and who knows for how much longer.) No offense but I always thought you girls who were so loyal to MDI were living in a bubble that was going to burst. This was not your family or your best friend. This was your JOB, working for a company just like any other company in this country and I learned long ago the employees don't matter. I have a few more years until retirement hopefully and was hoping to stick it out but I am seriously thinking I need to get out of this industry and go back to school. Reading the SEC filing about Transcend has me a little shocked and disappointed. As I said before everyone needs to do what they need to do for themselves. Good luck to all.
why speak of loyalty when as MTs
Hasn't anyone noticed? This business is a sweat shop.... these MTSO have it made. They get cheap offshore workers and housewives and moms dying to work at home, busting their butts, turning their homes into sweatshops. Be loyal to WHOM? The company that treats you like crap and CUTS YOUR PAY and talks to you like you are an idiot? Oh yeah, RIGHT hahahaha you are nutso babes!
While I'm sure MDI-MD appreciates your loyalty
appreciate your posting here, adding pokers to the fire of the already hurt/unhappy MTs. Give it a break, really. And you not only have to share that your experience is absolutely Mary Poppins material, perfect in every way, but you are compelled to discredit everyone else's negative experience. I'm not even involved, but it gets my dander up. Get over yourself. You're doing your beloved company more harm than good by inflaming an already inferno situation. I'm sure Carlotta agrees. In fact, I know she would agree with me.
when it comes to your own wellbeing, the only loyalty you need is to yourself.
.
Honesty, Loyalty, and Integrity! sm
A company that will be honest, no matter what the cost. Integrity to keep our records and work in the USA. Loyalty to your entire staff, let them know how important they are to the company, as well as loyalty to your clients. Keep your TATs and promises to your clients. Keep your promises to your MTs.
A decent line rate such as 10 cpl or above and flexibility!
Hope that helps!
Companies have to earn loyalty (sm)
Besides, all prospective employees go through a background check. It's not like these MTSOs are completely in the dark. I cannot believe (or can I?) that some companies ask for people's screen names to monitor stuff they say on a message board. If they're that petty and paranoid, there's good reason for it, and I betcha dollars to donuts it has *absolutely* nothing to do with MT attitudes. If anyone is spilling inappropriate information here, there's a moderator to take care of that.
BTW, now that I'm happy with my company, I am loyal. In fact, I'm so positive that when *I* post on here about my job, people often give me this oh, stuff it, Polyanna attitude.
The only thing that could possibly get me to leave is the promise of all that money getting my own accounts would bring. I don't think I'd like to deal with all the hassle involved, though...but if someone had a Powerpoint presentation to convince me it was easy as fallin' off a log, I'd be very interested!
No work versus loyalty
My pay period ended last week and I made $42. My supervisor is telling us to be patient and actually is getting angry when any MT starts to question what is going on. We have been told to be patient and the patient's are trying to meet their deductibles and that is why there is no work. I work for a huge hospital system with over 1,000 doctors with at least 30 outside facilities. Now, yesterday, we have been told not to log on again because the hospital has contacted them and said do not log in. I cannot go another pay making $42. What should I do? Be loyal or move on.
Thanks
No work versus loyalty
What company is this that you work for as the company I work for is the same way lately?
What happened to loyalty and ethics?
You sold out! You are a coward and you are weak. You are also a thief.
The last line just shows my loyalty and dedication (sm)
to my current employer, but desire to stay in the field of MT via a national company should my previous position not be offered when I return.
The people with the loyalty to the almighty dollar...
.
I do believe your loyalty is displaced. No MTSO or national are loyal to MTs
even though they claim to be. Loyalty is earned just like respect. This is a business just like any other business. If one company cuts pay, takes away health insurance, etc, why should any person or MT be loyal to that company? If promises are made and then broken or lies are told, why should any MT be loyal to that MTSO or company?
On the other hand, yes, if the MTSO or national and their people take care of the MT and provide her/him continuous work flow, as promised, pay on time, and work together with an honest and respectful relationship, then, yes loyalty should be mutual and reciprocating.
For you to just come on here and claim MTs should be loyal to company is very improper of you!
Ok, those are my cents worth! Have a good night!
Loyalty to Companies Who Have No Work and Expect a Schedule from YOU
There have been many discussions about MT's sitting around waiting for work to file into their queues.. many being told to get more than a few accounts and work on their backups (which, we all know, is someone's primary account) when their primary is out of work.. so we go 'round in circles.
Then we have discussions about companies putting us in work pools as opposed to assigning us work daily...
I have been sitting here thinking, if I were a painter, wanted to paint fences, and I showed up with my brush and paint bright and early in the morning, and was told to come back tomorrow, the fence has already been painted, but there will be another fence ready to paint tomorrow, please come back, we want you to paint our fences.. I say, OK, I understand, and so I come back tomorrow and when I get there I see that half of the fence has been painted already, someone came before me and painted it, even though I was promised the work of painting the fence. They say, try again tomorrow. How many days would you show up to paint a fence? Every day? Don't you (eventually) feel like an idiot standing there with your brush and paint with nothing to do??
Does the company owe you any loyalty at all?? If they don't want your services, why don't they just say so instead of keeping you coming back ready to paint every day? Then when it DOES get busy, they call and say WHERE IS EVERYBODY??? DONT YOU CARE ABOUT PAINTING THE FENCE? Like we havent been standing there with our brushes all week waiting to paint.
What I don't understand is the lack of shame from the people who behave this way. Once in a while things happen..NOT AS A MATTER OF BUSINESS.
I really don't understand the logic of the people who have no problem with this. You do understand that by doing this, you are simply helping these companies to continue in this fashion, not feeling that they owe you ANYTHING.
Overhiring is really the finaly insult. If you don't see that.. you are closing your eyes.
Yep, me too. Cant pay my bills and sm
I started screening my phone calls because bill collectors are calling now. Work for a national that overhires with absolutely no work for months now, started a pilot program sending work to India, and only pays 1/2 the regular line rate for crummy VR editing.
That's how much all my bills are behind thanks to offshore
entities scooping my last job. But hey, attorneys make loads of moolah. Honestly, you couldn't pay me enough to defend or provide services. I'd rather be poor.
All well and good if you don't have bills to pay
Hourly QA isn't that easy to find anymore.
Honestly if I were in the position of being changed to line rate, I'd figure what I needed to proof per hour to make my current rate, and do it. And you're right, the quality would suffer, and it would be what the company deserved. But I'd be doggoned if I'd take the hit in my own wallet; I'd do the best I could within those parameters.
Paying bills have nothing to do with it...
If you disagreed with what the poster was saying about productivity versus quality, and, at the same time claim 100%, you should show it. How can you state a strong opinion like yours, but still do what others do, like, gee, I don't know, make mistakes?
Are you going to pay my bills while strike is on?
x
will you share my bills too?
I REST MY CASE!!!!
Phone Bills
Well just quit ATT for phone and internet went back to cable and started using MagicJack which supposedly is $20.00 per year for longdistance and local along with free 911. Been on the MagicJack for about three weeks, hopefully this will be cheaper and if I get another job somewhere I can use this without having to have a land line
Obviously they don't have bills to pay. Insane.
I completely concur. Find a good one, or move on, quickly. No loyalty involved. The don't sm
have any to the MTS. NONE of them.
I am able to pay my bills as have money in the bank but
I really would like to be able to get the check when it is due. Direct deposit and just checked, still not there. I love my job and really make a decent salary as opposed to some who are not but gosh, looks like we could get when we are supposed to. It is not like we are not paid, just not on the date we are told.
Unemployment line for me . . . can't pay bills off of air . . . n/m

5 years there, pays the bills
Seems to depend on who you talk to. I have been with Edix/Spheris for 5 years now, no real problems other than a couple of supervisors that weren't very nice, but I went off those accounts and everything is fine. Our medical insurance has gone from pretty good to flat out crap and I think a lot of people have left because of it, but as far as the company they aren't that bad. They always pay on time, I have never had trouble taking vacation or time off. I would recommend them if you have another source for insurance. And let me reassure you, I am just a MT, not in management, not in recruiting.
45 days is too long, your bills are due every
30 days.
In debt and all bills being paid!
I have worked for over 3 years with DSG and have always made the money I need to survive with extra $ left over. I quit multiple jobs to work with DSG full time and make more now that I ever did, working less hours!
Welcome to the DSG team!!
Glad YOU can pay bills. The rest of us..SM
are struggling big time. You are weighing the fact that you don't have to pay for daycare and can go on field trips against everything else that's exploitative about this busines (I won't even go into outsourcing, although that's a major problem). Would you advise your children to become an MT?
Oh, yes, remember that we MT's get to pay our light bills
air conditioning bill, heating bills, phone bills, provide computer equipment and high speed internet, etc., etc.
The office staff get their utilities bill paid for while they work! Maybe they should split the office utility bills among themselves and get a feel of what it is like to be an at-home MT.
Transtech, I do thank you for my paycheck in order to pay all those bills, but we seem to be so underappreciated and are offered less benefits because we work at home -- as compared to the office staff. I thank God every day that He has provided for me another year.
Transtech, please show the number of lines we transcribe on our paycheck stubs so that we have something to compare to and can look at. This is the first company that I have ever seen that does not show the MT the number of lines on the paycheck stub. We have been promised that many months ago, but it has never come to fruition with the new payroll company you hired.
Thank you, Transtech office staff, for being the friendly people you are.
But, have you always been paid, and in time for bills
Are they dependable, and good income, really need to know. If the paper check is dependable, that would be okay, but really need to know specifics on reliability of pay, company, etc. Thanks again.
So DH pays the BIG bills. What if he were no longer
ALL the bills, on your own, with your salary or any typical MT's salary?
Got all bills paid but did not close down accts because
I knew, like you, this could ding your credit reports.
That bears repeating...'Loyalty won't pay your bills."
Such a simple words, but when put together like that they just make so much darned sense. Head 'em up and move 'em out. Lots better pasture out there.
I just recently quit, I just couldnt pay my bills. nm

like how late? when bills/mortgage is past due?
an you gotta pay late fees? Is that what you mean? Boy, I hope you make a lot of money to cover that.
My creditors are just not accepting nice for $$$$ to pay my bills
We continue to get these emails from mgmt about big things in store . . . but we cannot tell you about it now. This has been going on for a number of months now. Who is going to benefit from those big things. We MT's are LOSING money each and every day, but you keep getting the same size paychecks because you are either salaried or hourly employees.
Bottom line for me is the paycheck. Nice don't pay the bills.

Why should I waste time proofing posts, they don't pay the bills. nm

Can you provide a link where we can read these bills in their entirety?
All I'm finding is H.R. 1653 is a bill that has to do with the inclusion of abstinence teaching in federally funded sex education programs. And S. 810 has to do with obtaining federal grant money for scientific research. See below for description and links to these bills.
S. 810

Being paid by production is a slap in the face of quality. Bills due
determine the work ethics, from what I have witnessed. For an MT who has to come up with the money to live and the work available limited, there is a race to grab the best work, produce it as fast as possible and get on to the next job (which one may cherry pick simply because, well, they need the cash and have only so many hours to work, a limited amount of work available to them and, one might conclude, why not grab the easier work). It sucks. If there were ample work available to give the 8 hr a day MT her/him line count and provide her/him with a salary that one could live on modestly with a fair share of the good/bad, it would certainly make our days much more pleasant and then, quality would improve.
What you need personally to cover your bills should be the deciding factor. And what you MIGHT earn
m
If emails saying, "You guys make Transtech rock" pays your bills, let me know, because
I have figured out a way to pay my bills with such **old, wornout** words.
Management is rocking alright, because their paychecks are not affected at all with the NO WORK/LOW WORK situation that has been going on now for MONTHS and MONTHS. That seems so unfair when without the MT's, the mgmt would have no paychecks!!!!!

Loyalty has nothing to do with it until you find the company for you. Be loyal to THAT company.
:p
I have Charter Cable for phone, internet and cable and love it. No worries about big bills. sm
Their service is not great but I have not had to call since I was set up 2 years ago, so it does not bother me. My whole block uses it and we are all very happy!
