I guess it is now the norm but it did not used to be the norm.

It is not the hospitals on a short TAT it is what MQ wants to make the hospitals very happy with

them. I would assume the accounts are on 12, 24 or 48 TAT but wouldnt they love having their work back no sooner than it is dictated.

    Over-staffing....
Has it ever occurred to any seasoned/dedicated Transcriptionist that over-staffing is really a non-entity, due specifically to other MTs not doing their job?  I used to be angry when workload was low and think over-staffing, but now I am having to step foot in the company's shoes and realize that this is due to them having slackers!  They do have a commitment to their clients....we all have to realize this...but in order to keep the slacker employees, they just hire a few extra for the account...I don't know, I am pretty hiped up about speech recognition jamming my lines too....
    Staffing for Focus
AccuStat Carolinas assists Focus Infomatics for staffing for US MTs for their accounts when they need help. Focus has offshore on their own. I am a US MT and work with AccuStat on a Focus account and all is great!!!
They have a new account they are staffing

    24/7, Yes; Full Staffing, No.
I started my long-lived career in-house, initially as an LPN and then shifting to transcription. As a nurse, we did not work every weekend. We had a rotation schedule that provided adequate coverage and no one, except those that wanted to, was stuck working every weekend.

When I shifted to transcription in the same hospital, no one except the willing had to work every weekend (weekend coverage was the primary reason the hospital hired part-time). It was set up so that each Transcriptionist worked one weekend every 6 weeks. Despite the fact that it is open 24/7, not all departments are open 24/7. ORs are typically closed except for emergencies, ditto with radiology, clinical services, and the sundry labs (CV, EEG, etc.). There was no need for a full compliment of transcriptionists then, and forced weekend work is just MTSOs creating a need rather than fulfilling one.

Most of us do this job because of the convenience, and we do appreciate that. However, because of the new rules requiring weekends and 16 hours a day (including weekends) sitting at our desks to snag each report as it rolls in to make the same wage we were getting 20 years ago, it's losing a lot of that, and those that are willing to just shrug it off are part of the reason it has gotten so bad. And, since you don't walk in my shoes, don't tell us to get a new job. With the responsibilities some of us have added to the crapper today's economy is in, doing so is not quite the snap your rose-colored glasses tell you it is.
    K-Force Staffing.......PSM
Hi! Any new reports on K-Force staffing. I am currently working and reasonably happy, but I received a call out of the blue on an old resume that was banked on Yahoo, and a lady called me, very interested, just the right candidate for immediate full-time radiology position, the whole 9 yards. BUT I have read several older posts from 2005-6 where there were negative things said. Anyone currently working for this company, what is the scoop, I would really, really appreciate it so very much, don't need to make a bad move at this stage of the game!!!!
If you email me, I will help. I am helping with staffing a few of the sm
new accounts. Are you clinic or HIM or rad? There are at least 2 new accounts of each.
I'm not management - major staffing changes and

growth just in the last week alone - all for the better.  Just be patient and it'll be worth your while.   You won't be disappointed.     I'd give it another day or two and call them just to follow up.

Keystrokes is the best so far in my long and varied career!

    Traveling MT.. Sage St. Staffing

Anyone familiar with this new company?  They have ad posted today.  It sounds enteresting and I am enticed by the idea of a change in the new year!

Landmark staffing? Not an MT company. nm
    .
TAT and staffing practices (do they overhire to make TAT?) Also...
is the work routed to you or is it first in/first out. You should be able to plug in and have at it, as much of it as you can do at your own pace, and whatever doctor (ESL or not) comes up, rather than have someone select for you and decide when your 'Q' will run out. Those practices will hold you back from making and working at your full potential.
I love the part where he says we have inadequate staffing in this country!
That makes me so mad - how many of us are sitting here waiting on work every day and he says we have inadequate staffing? That is BU!!$HIT!

Our only hope lies in the facilities staffing MTs direct. SM
Win/win. They save a ton even if they pay us more per line which in turn puts us back in the bladk. We get affordable health coverage and labor laws.

    SIMPLE AS THAT

Sage Street Staffing - South Florida transcriptionists

I have been trying to respond to people from south Florida who applied with Sage Street Staffing for traveling transcription.

The emails are kicking back as undeliverable.  I have tried from multiple email addresses, and they are all kicking back as undeliverable.

If you sent a resume from the email address *********** please send an alternate email address so that I may respond.

    thank you

how do you know i am not the norm?
Based upon just the posts on MTstars? did you do an independent survey? I gave her my experience, which is for several years with 2 different branches/mgmt of the company. p.s. MQ is the largest MT provider in the WORLD. Do you think the MAJORITY of these MTs are so unhappy? I don't. THAT is why is shared my experience. Sorry if you don't like it.
    $1.35 seems the norm. nm

    the norm if ..
you refuse better conditions.  Since there are companies out there who do pay more for your time and effort I would not say that 1.35 is the norm, I'd say that it is the norm you will settle for.  Keep that in mind when you do your collective thinking everyone.  Frankly, being paid by the page to do heavy MRI and scan work is a total insult to the MT who is transcribing the work.
Yes, 8 cpl is the norm (nt)
    x
    This is not the norm.
It is less than honest to make people believe this is the norm only to find out once hired...it's not.  There are VERY few accounts or platforms at ANY company that would allow MTs to get that kind of count daily....unless working lots of OT.
Did I ever say this was the norm? I think NOT
All I said was that is what I do on my particular ER account with lots of templates and easy docs. There are multiple different types of accounts at KS on multiple different platforms. Did I once come out and say that everyone should be able to get that kind of a line count? No. I did not. Someone asked what ER MTs at KS usually average for line counts, and I simply responded that I type between 2500-3000 a shift with no OT on my account. I did not speak for anyone other than myself. Good god. Get over it!
Actually, the norm for this was
explained to me this way: For every 1 minute of dictation it should take 2 minutes to type it. This is using the old fashion way of transcribing, meaning straight typing, no Expanders and so on. So, if you use expanders, of course, the typing time is cut down further. You also have to keep in mind whether or not the dictator is good or bad, whether it's an ESL dictator, if you are new to the account and so on. All of these things will increase the amount of time it takes to transcribe any report.
something else going on here then, not the norm.nm
    nm
I do too - in the 7 - 8 hrs of norm. NM
    !
    Yes, it's the norm here...
There are a lot of nasty attitudes here.  I admit, occasionally I have one, too.  I think it has something to do with this industry and the abuse so many MTs receive these days.  My suggestion would be, if you enjoy this site for the most part, just take a break and come back on a different day .
    MQ not the norm...welllllllll
guess I'm not either?  No complaints on my end w/over 11 years
It seems to be the norm now. I am at $1.15 and make sm
over $50k a year, so it is not bad. If you are fast, know the terminology and have a good mix of types of radiology reports, it would be good.
LOL ... well, that is the exception, not the norm. sm
I wasn't trying to brag at all.  I'm older and simply cannot do that on a daily basis (wish I could!).  My only point was that if they were cheating me, it would not be possible.  I agree with the poster above -- if people think they are being cheated, then they should just move on.  This using several line counters and checking and double checking and so on and so forth seems a huge waste of time.
3 years is the norm. nm
    nm
Well if this is becoming the NORM there's a problem s/m
There was a big news article today about skyrocketing late/no credit card payments due to the housing market burst and the upcoming recession.  Maybe a little 1984  here, but could this credit check be being done by companies as another reason why they can't find qualified workers in the US, thus villifying further offshoring of jobs??
98% here and I thought that was the norm. nm
    x
    Two weeks is the norm
    Good luck!
It is becoming more of the norm so I adjusted to, not resisted the
    .
Yes, very serious; however, 700 lph is not the norm every day. It just depends on the dictator. Th
Sometimes the reports are 98% accurate and sometimes, depending on the dictator, they are 90% accurate. As you know in this field, it depends on the day and dictator. The daily average, after all is said and done, is about 600 lph, 700 is on the very high end and not a consistent average every day.
This is the norm at the companies I have worked for. sm
Don't take it personally. A lot of us go through the same thing. It hurts when a punctation error is pointed out, yet no mention is made of what a great job you did on the medical terminology. Kind of wounds the pride. Take comfort in the fact that the rest of your report was without error. You should learn to follow the style your company wants you to follow. They each have their own rules.
Not ridiculous. It's clearly stated in their ad and the norm for
    xx
Hopefully the norm has better voice recognition than
MQ has given me. It honestly takes me longer to edit than it does to transcribe. I pray to God that's not typical of voice recognition.
Your one clinic does that. It's certainly not the norm by any means.
    x
I have found that high-speed is the norm and if SM
you can use satellite or dialup, they will specifically state so in the ad.
Credit check IS the norm. Employers want to how
    x
I guarantee you, you are not the norm. Why lead someone that needs to make a living into a

situation that is getting worse all the time with lost accounts and over hiring and not knowing yet what the pay scale will be.

I've heard that no response from managment is getting to be the norm.. sm..
Why did you leave, if you don't mind my asking....
Paying for experience is NOT the norm out here. I'm finding newbies getting offered my same 8

The norm in the 80s was 4 cents per Gross Line, not 65 char with spaces. nm

As an ex-Keystroker, this behavior sounds like the norm. It is convenient to blame the person who

HOW DO YOU KNOW THEY ARE GETTING RID OF THE LITTLE HOSPITALS THAT WON'T DQS?
    X
So does that mean that the hospitals (sm)
(their website indicates US-based hospitals) that use this company are okay with this level of quality that the QA in India provides?  Thank you.
Is there anyone else who would like to see hospitals (or more hospitals)

offer transcriptionists the opportunity to work at home directly for them, with decent hourly pay that is at least consistent with the cost of living in the employee's particular region (and assuming that the MT would be working at home for a hospital that is in her/his region), with same employee benefits as the on-site employees?

    hospitals?

i've been applying to the hospitals in the area about every 6 months, and no one is hiring.  i don't even think hospitals or doctors offices have MTs anymore...not my doctors office, and not another place i applied for a job...they have these little hand held things they dictate into that transcribe their words right there and then, they print it out, sign it, stick it in the chart, over and done.

if i weren't 10 years away from retirement, there is no way i would get into this business.  having been doing this for over 20 years, its hard to find something else.

i've got work today, but its crappy work, the national cesspool stuff, and my line count is going to be so far below the minimum requirement it won't be funny. but they shouldn't mind, since it means they won't have to pay too much at the holiday rate.

but i keep applying and looking and applying and i know something good will hopefully come my way eventually.

in the meantime, i've had to get a 2nd job, part-time, another at home MT job, with a much smaller company, all IC employees, and i'd jump ship in a second and work for them full time if that wasn't the case because they are like night and day from the place i work for full-time now, but i need benefits, am single, own my own home, and will soon be one of those old ladies living out of shopping carts on the street, eating out of dumpsters, at this rate.

Yes, I have three hospitals too
and am very pleased. My liaison is awesome. She actually treats me like a human being.
    CA Hospitals
I wondered the same thing. So many of the hospitals and clinics rely on MediCal, Medicaid payments. What is going to happen? Does the state have any safety net built into the system? What if the insurance companies go belly-up and quit paying as well? Domino effect!!! Ark!
