Health insurance option
Consider the IC at 9 cpl without benefits and no ESL. Obtain health, life, and dental insurance other routes....like try ehealthinsurance.com. More options there. 7 cpl isn't great if your dealing with a large amount of ESLs.
There is another option, DO SOMETHING ELSE!
Of course not! You gotta think outside the box. If this profession bothers you that much, learn to do something else instead of whining for years on end! It's no one's fault that you're stuck in employment neutral but your own.
That's one option...
but I would probably do a different shift.
You should have had the option of
I haven't been with them long. I work a 12 hour window on second shift. They prefer that you keep the same schedule for at least 6 months.
Yes PT is an option sm
Supervisor just sent out an email this week in fact encouraging us to use our employee referral program to find PT people. They are especially seeing PT weekend help or 2nd 3rd PT help. I don't know any other MTs in my area who are interested so the referral program ($500 for finding people that stay with the company) is not of any use to me. We definitely need extra coverage on the weekends so those of us here already don't have to do OT everyweekend. OT is not because of turnover it is because the account has grown and they can't keep up with current employees on the weekend schedule.
Not an option?
Then I suggest you get out of this business right now, because it's turned ugly in the past decade.
Trust me. You WILL earn less than you did 10 years ago.
Of course, you could stick to your other option ... unemployment. Enjoy that!
I wish you folks would stop whining for compassion, when you're so quick to turn your noses up at what the rest of the 'real' world has been going through.
Or is it only a tragedy when it happens to YOU?
Sorry if I don't get all teary-eyed at the thought of you have to 'settle' for the GOING RATE!!!!!!!!!
Form your own company. Then you can pay whatever you want. (And I'll guarantee you wouldn't be paying anyone else 11 cpl!!!!)
MTSOs also have the option
of walking away from a client who is not willing to pay an adequate rate that is required to get the job done. The money that the MTSOs save by using overseas MTs is spent on Editors who basically have to redo all of the poor poor quality reports.
If you are a building contractor and someone calls you and tells you they want a screened porch built. You as a contractor know what it's going to take to build that porch using quality materials and quality labor. If it takes $5000 to build the porch, are you going to let the homeowner tell you to do it for $3000 when you know it's not possible. Guess what...the contractor walks away and tells the homeowner they'll have to find someone else who can do it for that rate. MTSOs have the same option.
There is NO excuse for offshoring. There never will be.
You don't have to have it overnighted though. Just an option
I just told them to mail it.
Email me. I may be able to have an option.

There is always the option of gaining your own
would be an option, when specs do not meet QA's approval. I do not, however, believe that the executives side with MT's at all, but always QA. The accounts I have, I am the executive manager, MT, QA (notice the order of importance). I do not think there are people getting into this field because they do not give a crap. There is too much to learn before you can really catch a break and land your first job. So, I totally disagree.
Not an option where I live.
There are 2 hospitals in a 50 mile radius and they only employ 2-3 MTs and rarely have openings. It is very rural here. I haven't had any trouble finding work from home as an IC, but want to change to employee status for health insurance since my husband is changing careers and won't be getting ins. any longer.
Normally as an employee there is an option
in return. It's a shame that MQ is not the same way. I don't think Keystrokes is IC status though, but I'm not certain of that. I just think this hoopla about Keystrokes is crazy. Can they really have that much work and be that flexible that everyone at MQ is going there and will have enough work. The other thing is that darned Meditech. You all think that's getter than what MQ has? NOT!!
Uhm... I thought that the option - sm
to accept or not accept a job because of the hours was the right of anyone, whatever the position be it IC, SE or employee. What a joke! Good for you though for calling them out on it. Which gives me an idea ...
I believethey have the option
of doing this. But they also have the option not to. It is written something like that. I didn't opt for the 401K because I can barely make my lines as it is due to lack of work and was more concerned about today rather than tomorrow.
You do have the option to type or edit.
At this point anyway. Transcend has gained several new accounts recently, which has been broadcast from here to there. What wasn't broadcasted is that they also LOST several large accounts over the past year, a couple just recently. Some of the accounts that have just been added on are overflow accounts. As each account gets transitioned over to the new platform, the option for typing will be great as the VR is extremely BAD in recognizing a lot of these new dictators. Those editing on the accounts now are actually training the system to recognize what the dictators are saying.
As time goes on, the system starts recognizing more and more dictators are transitioned to editing. Once the system becomes "smart" and is working at peak performance, less editors will be needed to work on the editing aspect, as was already experienced with a very large ER account that staffed 25 or more MLSs and dwindled down to 10. We all saw what happened there. When the editors were scrambling for work they switched to typing, and were told to do so by the AMs. So think about what that means for those typing. If less people are needed to edit, where do those already working on the pre-existing accounts go? To typing on the new accounts. When the work load is low, all those shifted from editing to typing will be doing the work YOU have been doing all along.
Also, there will always be a need for some to type because there are some doctors that absolute cannot do VR. Now just imagine if you choose to type rather than edit. These are the doctors that you will be transcribing for day after day: Mush-mouths, speed-talkers, whisperers, extremely difficult ESLs. In other words, all those that the system will never be able to decipher. You may be getting a high rate for typing, but it is going to take you longer to do them because if they were that easy, the system would be doing them first. No matter what option you chose you are on the losing end of the deal. If you chose editing, it is FULL editing, not QA filling in the blanks. Depending on how fast you type, you may never be able to achieve a consistent, day-after-day 40% increase in production, but you will be taking a loss in compensation. If you chose typing, you're stuck with all the leftover garbage that the system cannot do on its own and your production still suffers. No matter which way you look at it, you will be working harder and receiving less until the point eventually comes where 2/3 of the work force is scrambling for work while the other 1/3 is popping out 20,000 lines per pay period. much like it is now. While you may have the option of typing or editing NOW, certain people in management have been telling their favorites that the goal in the future is to get ALL accounts and work types on editing. Why do you think so many "in the know" are now scrambling for or were already told about the hourly team leader positions before they were even announced?
Think about it. This is not the first mass exodus Transcend has seen over the years. That became common knowledge when they had the push to hire back all those who had quit over the changes before. Many there, even working for 5 years or more, are leaving this time. If workers have gotten bad treatment before and left in the past, as is happening now, it will happen again. A leopard does not change its spots.
On some O accounts you do have Ctrl I option
?
Do they have an employee option or only IC? Thought I

If vision is an option, can you answer this? sm
Any eye care specialist (or contact lens wearer) attest that glasses do not improve vision as well as contacts lenses. Contacts correct the peripheral vision whereas glasses do not. Also, speaking from personal experience, NOTHING compares to LASIK. Contacts corrected my vision to 20/20 bilaterally. I had LASIK done almost 3 years ago and my vision is still 20/15 in both eyes.
I had custom wavefront, which was pretty pricy at $3300. However, I haven't paid a dime for vision correction since my procedure. Before LASIK, I would estimate my annual eyecare costs ranging from $450 to $600.
Insurance companies will pay for auditory surgery such as cochlear implants to correct hearing impairment, which they should. But how is surgery to correct hearing any different than LASIK to correct a visual impairment? Couldn't the same argument (cosmetic)be used if a hearing aid provided the same benefit as an expensive cochlear implant?
I just don't understand the inconsistency. Could it be that people with visual problems far outnumber those with hearing loss? Just a thought.
New option for group members
Group members now have the option of hiding their email address and IP address. This eliminates some features of the group but is for everyone's protection.
Is that the only option, though? How about great accounts at 10 cpl? :-) nm
Don't forget the option to vote this down (sm)
I think it's 10 votes to discard a post that gets the nasty post removed. I'd love to see more people using that feature here.
Regarding new accounts - are we given the option to switch or (sm)
have them added as a secondary? I understand they are large accounts and I would ever so much enjoy working on accounts that do ops other than a few laparoscopic procedures. Those large hospitals often have gruesome, yet interestingoperative reports.
Does it depend on if the account falls under your STM? Will they put out info closer to start date telling us about the size and scope of accounts?
Sorry for so many questions. Love the company and like my account, but would change it in a heartbeat if given the opportunity for something a little more interesting.
Right and offshore is a dangerous option
Dangerous to confidentiality. Yes, they may try it but it is failed miserably as we now know.
Do you have the option of paying extra...
for fedex or UPS delivery? What's it like to QA there? I definitely could not afford to wait a week for my paycheck.
if govn't option passes,
you may be crowding the ER, but you probably won't get seen in any reasonable fashion. More like take a number and wait 6 months. Why in the heck do you think the financially able from countries that have govn't-run healthcare come HERE for treatment.
I don' remember this as an option using ExText with 2 different companies. nm
x
I was told that was no longer an option last week.
nm
Not always an option; my supes don't want calls at either of my MTSOs. nm

Please note that we are working on an option for posters to be able
to choose whether they would like visitors to respond to them in email. What this means is that while you would still have to enter a valid email address to post, you would also have the option not to provide the email link for anyone to respond to.
Let me be clear that actual email addresses are NEVER revealed to anyone when posts are made. Only a link is available if someone wants to email directly. The only way your email address would be known is if you respond.
I agree, although employees do have the option of having the check Fed Ex'd. sm
However, if they are going to mail the checks, the checks should be mailed to arrive on the day of pay day and the employee should not have to pay to have their check Fed Ex'd. I am going to start working PT for Encompass, and the first check or two comes via the mail until DD is established, and they state in the contract that the checks are mailed so as to arrive on the day of pay day. To me, THAT is a sign of a company that cares.
JLG may be a great company, but it sounds like they have financial issues. I worked there a long time ago and at that time we were paid every other week. It stated in the contract that the checks would be mailed every other Friday from the Tampa airport. I waited and waited and when I FINALLY got my check, they had back dated the postage meter date to the day it was supposed to have been mailed, but it was postmarked severald days later -- like I'm so stupid I wouldn't notice!! Still, things change and personell change, and I had considered working for them again until all of this mess started up again, which obviously was a major red flag to me. I do believe that they care for the MTs, so I hope they get the financial thing solved and reinstitute direct deposit.
dont think that's an option; the feds are bailing
.
Another option to direct deposit. Just an idea.
JLG sounds like a nice place to work, and perhaps more people would join there if there were another pay option. I don't know if your boss has looked into it, but I have a Chase paycard. It works like a Visa. It also has a number like a checking number and a routing number (not the same as the card number) and a job can direct deposit to the card like it would a checking account. You have access to your money right away at any ATM or you can use the card anywhere you go and on the internet, etc. I love it. I hate banks and fees, so I keep most of my money on the paycard and withdraw cash as I need it. I don't know if there are any fees to the company, but probably not because Chase probably has some kind of program. Just an idea. Good luck to all the JLGers.
new option is now going to Eastern bloc countries
and Ireland and away from India as the cultural difficulties have led to problems, plus they have great tax incentives.
THANK YOU!! WOW even if i wanted to work there I would NEVER give her the option of a referral as
Well I think they would just continue to hire SEs and then give them an option, just my opinion. I
HOPE I am wrong believe me. MQ will do whatever it takes to get where they need to go and that is a fact. I just wish I knew the game so I could play it too. You know the saying, you name the game and I will play it too and better than you do. Why do you think they are so sneaky about everything. They dont want us to get a hands up on them. This is a true cat and mouse game. Just like any corporation. Get them with their pants down. Use them while we need them and then move them out. See it all the time. BUT better to keep everyone in the dark before the end comes for sure so employees dont rock the boat.
Yeah, with 14 years of ortho and WC experience, 6.5 cpl is NOT an option.
I'd work at a fast-food restaurant first. When did our skills become so insultingly undercompensated. I'm like a lot of us, about ready to go back to school..do anything but this. Luckily, I also so medical insurance billing so I may have to go back in-office and do that. At least, I know I'll be compensated ...FAIRLY.. what a bunch of.....
401k funds are protected by govt insurance similar to the insurance
that banks have (FDIC). It is safe even if the company goes under.
The insurance cost is double for Transcend but insurance probably doesn't factor in for her.
I have heard more good things about Axolotl than Transcend, although it seems Axolotl may be less flexible with your schedule and someone told me that QA was pretty strict, which should not matter either if you have worked for a hospital and know what your QA score is.
If you read your paperwork, you'll see that is an option they have. Also, the state of Illinois
does not have right to work law, any employer can fire you at any time without cause.
I am working to support myself so running out of work constantly, is not an option.
I realize there are slow times, but a lot of places offer backup accounts. Why put all of your eggs in one basket. I'd starve.
Eyesight isn't option, LASIK is. You can wear corrective lenses and see. nm
It's about options.
The insurance plan in my opinion is excellent insurance. I am not sure if it will change when it'
time to renew or not. I really hope not but I know that a lot of companies change every year in an effort to keep costs down because most insurance companies start raising rates after you have been with them a year. The insurance is Great West and they also have excellent dental and vision plans. I believe the cost is less than $70 a pay period for the employee.
Insurance sucks compared to my old insurance... sm
The insurance seems like they don't want to cover anything, even simple prescriptions I used to pay 4 or 10 dollars on I now pay 20 to 43 dollars. I like the company/people so far, just don't like the insurance.
Insurance Questions: Can you tell me what you pay for insurance through your
MTSO, which MTSO it is and whether the coverage is decent? I currently pay $92.00 a pay period for decent coverage but am trying to figure out if I am getting a good deal or if I could do better elsewhere.
TIA.
insurance sm
You may be better off going directly to the source, so to speak. I do not have the insurance, but I have seen the rates, and they are reasonable, even affordable! I believe it's through either Blue Cross or UHC, or it may be both, you get to choose. Anyways, I do get the eye insurance for my family, which is at no cost to me. As I said before, your best source is to ask MQ itself. Good luck, and don't count MQ out just because of all of the negative posts on this board! I'm very happy w/them, and have been for over four years now!
MQ insurance
I don't know if it's still the same, but when I worked for MQ, I cancelled my insurance and went to IC status when the family coverage went up to $900/month. I asked them how could that be with the largest transcription company in the world, and they claimed it was based on the area I lived in.
Insurance
They don't let you go, they make you a statutory employee. If they let you go, then they would put themselves in a situation to where they may have to pay unemployment. If they move you to statutory and take all your benefits, then they don't have to pay your insurance or PTO days. Working off the clock is just free labor for them. So basically, it is going to benefit them either way.
insurance
I carry myself and my husband and it costs me between $30 and $40 monthly. This is for an HMO. I think they told me the PPO was between $80 and 120 monthly, but the HMO had more providers in my area so I went with it. There were several choices between HMO and PPO. Like I said before, this will vary depending on which hospital. I work for a hospital in PA. I'm not sure about details for the Florida hospitals.
For the insurance directly through Diskriter (if you work for them directly), I think they quoted me around $300 a month for two people.
PT Insurance
There is a company in WI who offers insurance at 30 or 32 hours a week. For the life of me I can't remember the name but out of Waukesha, WI. Hopefully someone can jump in and give you the name.
PT Insurance
I keep wondering why more companies don't offer an option like the hospitals where you pay a little more as PT, but can at least obtain insurance as part of their group. Or for that matter, why AAMT cannot offer a group option for insurance for all the ICs, etc.
