Not only is it not a good idea to save reports
to show quality, it is ILLEGAL. If you don't know the content of HIPAA, you should not be MTing.
Good quality reports? Ummm, no.....sm
The reports I edited when I was there were NOT of good quality. Sure, there were a few MTs (maybe 1 or 2) who produced good work with very little errors, but many of the MTs were offshore, and the work was atrocious. Had to fix MANY errors, and unfortunately the MTs never learned from their mistakes. It's frustrating having to correct the same mistakes over and over and over again. Even the American MTs work was not the greatest.
i proofed a few reports from a filapino and i was shocked at the good quality. wasn't expecting
;
No way should you be saving reports
You are violating the patient's confidentiality and probably it is a violation of your contract with your former employer. Really that would not reflect your quality of work, for all they know the reports were copied. Only working with a current job's dictators and their system will let them know that for sure. Get rid of all those reports you have saved ASAP.
Saving reports
Is not only unethical and a severe lack of good judgment, it is a breach of the Federal Privacy Act, the HIPAA laws and is actionable in both federal and local courts. I hope that whoever is saving reports has good legal counsel on retainer. If you do not believe me, call your own attorney or ask the legal counsel for any hospital. He or she will be able to confirm this.
Saving reports
Blackswan, not to split hairs but if you have reports with no PHI, they can be saved.
I agree that I'd make sure I was covered, but the key is making sure there's no identifiable information included in the report (birthdate, name, address, phone, etc)
Seeing how you took the saving reports SM
subject, I'm not sure you'll think this is good advice either, but here goes. I hope you plan to present yourself better in your flyer and in person than you do in the posts you made here in this thread. The posts I saw give me the picture of a down-home momma MT, not a professional businesswoman.
I don't think saving reports is
Whipping out saved reports might just show a future employer a good reason NOT to hire you. Aside from the legality of it, IF you were to do this, how representative of your work would this be anyway? This could have been QA'd work, someone elses work, etc.? I'm not saying that's the case, but just look at the logistics from a recruitor or company standpoint who is considering your employment with them. I do think though that when you hold out your saved reports you're raising red flags for any potential employer. Good luck though.
There is nothing wrong with saving reports
I thought people jumped right on ya' as well.
For example, there was one ad for a job that I remember a few months back asking the applicant to send a few reports that they've transcribed.
These people are all brainwashed.
Look at the post about the cell phone dictation??? There is nothing to say a physician cannot dictate on his cell phone in his/her car, on a plane, etc., as long as they're not using a bullhorn. Most MTSO web sites show physicians dictating on a cell phone or from anywhere;its part of the business.
Just chalk it up to the source of these posters' ignorance of this field and only working for nationals that have brainwashed them.
You could be in legal trouble for saving reports.
First, that would be a HIPAA violation. Second, I am positive the entity you worked for did not allow you to keep copies of work for personal use.
Bad idea. Hopefully, any group you show that info to would be scared to work with you.
Please tell me you aren't saving actual reports...?
Please reassure me/us that you aren't saving the actual report with patient demographics, etc., and then showing them to others? That would be such a huge compromise of HIPAA and would bring to light a whole different set of reasons for possible future termination from an employer if it were found out.
But will this color show up on reports sent to hospital, or
just on my computer alone. Would hate to be sending reports with GREEN type on the reports. TIA
dont' ya think it will show in the finished product of a quality MT?

Personally, DSG is a good fit for me. Pay is good and on time, sound quality depends on the account
and I like the platform. There is not much weekend work, although sometimes is available. I get along well with the management, no major complaints. There is pay incentive once you get over a certain number of lines in a pay period. I work as an IC, so can't help with benefits, insurance questions, etc.
Oops - some posts did show up for them - mostly good, but anything else would be great.
Any other details? Decent medical/dental? Is 10c a line possible?
DSG is a good company. The sound quality is good sm
but I don't understand why they are hiring. In the a.m. was have NO work. The afternoon and evenings do have more work though.
Good idea!

good idea
I am good...six years experience, good accuracy....I'll take your advice...I haven't signed anything yet..thanks! Are you happy there? They want to send me to St. Louis office.
Good idea, this is what I have done too smn
with the same point being made, waste of valuable time I ask wha is the lowest to ghe highest line rate, period. I can tell right there whether or not I will take test etc. Some want 6 reports and this takes a lot of time. More and more must turn down these low low rates and it will start to turn around the slave labor, below federal poverty level ($24,000 a year) Good grief it is down to 4 cents a line offers made, I bet India MT make more than that.
Good idea, and then you too
could be an independant contractor
Good idea
.
Good idea!
I do have caller ID and I might give that a try! At least it might annoy them enough to stop calling!
That's a good idea...
... if you feel like you're bugging the bosses (collect questions). I've never felt sheepish about sending off questions. If the answers indicated they were bothered, I would do what you do, but that never happens. I get the same response the others do -- very quick response. If the responder doesn't know the answer, they find someone who does. The left hand even seems to know what the right hand is doing. Tech support is fantastic and quick to respond as well. Otherwise, they leave me alone, which I appreciate very much. Just let me work, I say. I have an excellent rapport with the folks. Two years and looking forward to a bunch more.
Good idea, maybe they will do that. - nm
xx
Good idea! TY...nm

Good idea, so sad though
Well, I'm still hoping there are good companies out there that pay for experience, or at least have manners to get back to you after you take their test and put in the effort. Thanks for the suggestion. I may have to hang up my keyboard soon!
Good idea...
I am a black-white type of personality so I always either worked for one company or another; never two at one time. I may try this. You know what they say about desperate times and desperate measures, right? Thanks.
Not a good idea
Was promised a raise for months...never happened...and then CUT!
Got a good idea for this.
When someone asks about doing this job just ask if they have ever talked to a place where they might do business and they have to talk to someone who speaks with a foreign accent, could they understand everything they were saying. If the answer is no, just tell them that is what you hear mostly all day long. That should put the conversation to rest.
Thank you! Good idea about the IM. I certainly....sm
understand the need to have a grip on production and turn around and I never minded when called and asked if I could pitch in a little extra. I also didn't mind when work got a little slow and I could take some time off. That was the old days. This is now.
Good idea. Does anyone know (see msg)
Anyone know how to set this up or willing to do? I was able to set up one on FB that is secret - meaning it will not show up in your profile and will not show up on a search and you can only be invited by administrator, which means the administrator (at this second, on this group I set up, would be me, but I don't think FB is for everyone, a lot of people avoid it)... so whoever moderates a yahoo list or something like this would be faced that we don't know each other and may allow others on who we would prefer not be there. Ideas on how to go about this so that only MDI MTs who need and want to give support to one another would be allowed onto such a list or group?
good idea
I just posted 2 different ones for AHK and Instant Text. Then you can know my secret identity. Lol. Productivity Talk is also a great place for ideas on Auto Hot Key. That's too bad about Instant Text. I know it is rather pricey.
Good idea - don't. She was with OSi for several years
obviously a wrong move... she didn't know how her new boss is-- that she gets rid of anyone who knows more than her which of course is most people. Damn shame but heck she already has 2 other jobs and 3 more offers which should say something for her.
Thanks for the responses. Good idea!! nm

That is not a good idea. What if there is an emergency?
What if someone in your family has an emergency and needs to reach you?
Would it be a good idea to reapply to
Keystrokes. Got an e mail from Keystrokes looking for MTs. This is the second I got in a couple of months where they stated they were hiring. By the way, I am an acute care Transcriptionist with lots of years in the business.
Here's the deal: I worked for them briefly, very briefly last winter. But it was too difficult having several jobs and could not keep it with another full time job, so I had to leave. Now, have an IC job, but keep running out of work. Don't need benefits, husband provides them, so that is no longer an issue.
Last spring, wanted to go back working there, but was too afraid that there was some kind of list of MTs who quit and won't be hired again. So, I did not try.
Receiving this e mail from them makes me think I would like another crack at this company. What are your thoughts? Do you think this e mail I just got from them is a mass mailing or a true invite to come back. If so, I would definitely be interested.
I don't want to make a fool out of myself if this was a mass mailing of past resumes and then I get my hopes up and am not hired.
Sorry such a long post. Just hard to describe quandry. Any suggestions well appreciated. Thanks!
That's not a good idea SallieAnn
Nobody in the USA should work for that, not even babysitters. There are jobs out there that pay way better.
I have a pretty good idea but
let the brilliant Millie from below answer that. She's your TT gal.
Good luck with that. The quality is NOT there.
Very few have mastered the English language enough to pull off an entire report without American QA, and certainly not enough to take over the entire industry.
good idea...I agree...but didn't they have one once? nm
nm
sound likes a good idea
and I do not believe it is just one MT...surely the company has at least a couple skilled MTs. TAT is the name of the game and is what keeps every one having work.
Good Idea. You are smart to wait. nm
.
I never ever discuss pay of any kind, just not a good idea
because what one person gets paid may not be the same as another and it can cause hurt feelings and problems. I will tell you that the downtime pay is the same as vacation pay - LOL.
Yeah, you get to see how good or bad their voice quality is!! nm
x
Yes, but that's a good thing. They demand quality.
Of all the nationals and bigger MTSOs, MQ is about the only one who never does quality checking. But in the end, that's not a good thing. Its best to learn to stay on our toes and keep our quality up. Don't worry - you're worried about it, so that's a sign you are a great MT. Others don't care.
The good companies who actually care about quality.

Ditto on good reports for Allstate
I too have NOTHING but great things to say about Allstate and their AIM program. If you are lucky enough to get in, work your butt off to stay in. I have easily learned more in two weeks with Deb and her crew than in all of my previous training! Disregard grumbling posts. I am a real person, and I can personally say that Deb has bent over BACKWARDS for me! Definately worth trying to get involved if you are a newbie.
I had no idea, I thought Medware was one of the good guys.
Guess I won't be applying with them after all.
To those already with them, I hope you can all agree to not assist offshore typists to take jobs from US MTs.
Transcend offshores, so I have a pretty good idea...
where the 40-50 reports are disappearing during *your* night (*their* day shift).
DSG supposedly doesn't offshore, so darned if I know why we keep running out of work, though I'm guessing just plain old overhiring; no doubt of displaced MTs from other offshoring companies, so it affects everybody, regardless of whether the MTSO actually offshores or not.
Why don't these companies realize that good sound quality is
essential for transcribing. If the big bosses had to listen to the scratches and static for hours on end, day after day, maybe this wouldn't happen, but most of them don't even know what a foot pedal and headset are. I find that the sound quality from the internet files are far worse than anything I ever encountered on DVI, C-phone, or Lanier systems telephone systems.
Only good thing I have heard lately is that a friend of mine, also an MT recently filed for disability based on hearing loss and/or inability to hear the files that she was required to do and won the case for total disability. She does have some hearing loss, but when she took her computer to the hearing and dialed in and had the adjudicator listen, there was no question that she would never be able to continue in this line of work. Maybe a few more workman comp cases would wake them up.
Oh good grief. They just published their financial reports and
are 100% OUT OF DEBT. They can't file bankruptcy if they don't owe anyone!
It's part of their digging their way out.
You're grapevine must be in the imagination or just another speculator like yourself.
How ridiculous.
