Thanks Gourd Painter--

I do okay when I stay off these boards during working hours.  Fortunately, I'm statutory now and don't have to worry about minimum hourly quotas.  I can just kick back and relax.

I had no idea there was that kind of money in gourd painting.  I'm on the East Coast and I don't think that craze has hit here yet.  Maybe this is my chance to get in on it early.  I'm married to a good ole farm boy, so I'm sure he could help with the dirt part of it and then I could just do the painting part.  I'll have to run that by him and do a little more research on this.  I love to paint and stencil crafts; I've done quite few primitive pieces myself.

Good luck in your new career.  Doing what makes you happy is never wrong!

To Gourd Painter - Need Clarification
Sorry but your answer isn't clear to me. Would appreciate more specifics. What does AAMT have to do with it anyway?
Painter of Gourds...

why do you still feel compelled to paruse this board?  If was retiring and no longer wanted to be an MT, I think I'd find the gourd painter message board and be very happy.

Why are you finding yourself still downing MT.  Not all of us feel we'll have to buy a job.  We don't all have bad luck and not all of us are down on the MT business.  A lot of us are doing rather well and love this job...

Good luck with your retirement, but something tells me you'll be back after Thanksgiving...

Well a painter wouldn't be hanging sm
out at said paintees house on a regular basis painting would they?  They'd complete THE JOB and be done with it - this is asking for an ONGOING in your face scheduled committment of time - HUGE DIFFERENCE.
true, tho, would work for the painter. sm
painter - do not back down, have no fear, and stock up on gumption! We are all here with you as you represent ALL of us.

I have been around a long time. Why do you come to this board and lurk all the time. Did you run out of gourds and feel you need to stir something up.. If you hate MT so much go away from here and leave the real MTs alone. You just make things worse for some of these people. Get a new hobby or a job
Excuse me? You find me a painter or plumber
who has not had 25 jobs in as many years as I have been doing this.  You are one small-minded individual.
I love your analogy of the fence painter s/m

You are right on.  Some of us are old enough to remember when we worked directly for the hospital.  Rarely, if ever, was there a shortage of work.  There is no shortage now either regardless of the economy.  What there is is an oversupply of typists.   With the health care reform on the table, hospitals need to cut costs associated with their necessary medical record department.  Are they saving money by outsourcing?  I think not.

Only the American workers in any industry can change the way they are treated.  They must band together by whatever means, not necessarily unionization per se.   While it is about unionization, I would suggest everyone get and watch the movie Norma Rae.  The point is change doesn't happen without those who are willing to make personal sacrifices to see it happen.

Gourd Painting

You lucky soul!  I'm married to a bona fide (sp?) city boy (Chicago).  Fortunately he's a quick study but we've had some times during his learning curve.

I would love to share the gourd thing with you.  As I said, I stumbled on it quite by accident.  I'm actually taking art lessons so I'm really more interested in growing the little suckers (or big suckers as the case may be).  The craze hasn't even caught on yet in the Mid West so I bet you've got a head start on the East Coast if you want it.  Feel free to email me.  Just put something in the subject line that will get my attention.  I'm thinking of changing my address because I still get so much spam in spite of everything I can do.  I'll be posting gourd information on my website at some point in time but I want to get my ducks in a row first.

Gourd, I am so sorry that this is happening to you,

Isn't it bad enough that we all have to worry about our jobs on a daily basis, worrying if work will be there, if the company that we are working for will actually pay us for the many, MANY hours that we have put in and having to work literally almost every holiday because in this industry, that is just how it is?  Now we have to worry for expressing our opinions, something that, IMHO, is my God given right, after all, last time I checked, we were still living in the United States of America!!

To me what makes this entire situation even more sickening, is that someone is being paid to watch this board.  This company could use that money, the money that they are paying for attorney fees, court fees, etc., to pay their MTs what they DESERVE and instead of worrying about looking bad on a website, they should do everything in their power to make their company the absolute best in its business.  Again, IMHO.

OMG - an American Gourd Society!
I love it! I am so getting into this! I live in Ohio and there are always craft shows and farmer's markets, pratically every weekend. I'm really good at painting, so am not really interested in doing the paint-by-numbers thing, but are there any books you would recommend for me to get started? Maybe just two or three?

I'm a midwest MT too (Kansas) ... but my gourd painting skills are definitely lacking too. :( n
