good post, but in response to 'why apply if you don't want the job'....

This is only my opinion. If I am considering taking on a new account, I will send my resume' out to a few companies, and see what offers come in. If it takes one company a day or two to make an offer and another company a week, I may not be available in a week.
Not sure if you think it is proper to send out a resume to just one company, and cross fingers hoping they will call with a decent offer. I, for one, prefer to interview the company, not have the company interview me.
Hope this sheds some insight on why you may not receive a call back from those who submit their resume'. You may be taking too long to get back to them.

Are experienced MTs finding they are getting a good response when they apply for jobs or is the
field flooded by now. I see tons of people looking at the job ads.
If you apply, don't expect any response sm
A couple of months back, I was leaving MQ and applied to several companies. I had heard great things about Axolotl and sent in my resume. I have been an MT for 8 years, I am productive, and I will research before leaving a blank. I never heard anything back at all until I e-mailed to see if they were hiring and how long they kept resumes on file. Their response was that they receive so many resumes that they cannot respond individually and that resumes are kept for 6 months. It is complete bull to say that they cannot respond individually to let you know they received your e-mail, just set up an automatic response with that e-mail address. Oh well, their loss. I have now been with another company almost 2 months, one that has had somewhat mixed reviews on this board, and I am extremely happy.
That post was supposed to be on another thread but it seems to apply everywhere! nm
nm
Wouldn't we all..but I did apply and have not heard anything. See the post below where they state
the work is consistent and sporadic. I just figured something like that could be a good IC job and still keep my FT.
i appreciate your response and post but....
take it to email and more personally than to expose it publicly on an internet bulletin board.
This would show some (quote) CLASS (/quote).
Here's my response to your post....sm
1. If you've been gone 7 months why do you care? How do you know who the supposed troublemakers were if there were any?
2. Since you've been gone a while you haven't seen the communications to the employees, therefore it's unfair of you to judge anything about what the company has done since you left and is doing in the future.
3. The company was open and honest about this experiment with offshore labor - didn't try to hide it like other companies have done. They could have not said anything, done it, and the transcriptionists wouldn't have known for months.
4. Experimenting and doing are 2 different things - and just because something is being explored doesn't mean it will be a done deal.
5. The company fought considering using offshore labor but with the government not caring about it across the US or federal labor it's hard for anyone to fight it permanently - see the administrator for MTStars comments. IT's not just transcription getting hit by offshore competition. It's other jobs as well. Ford is closing plants due to offshore competition. Kraft is closing plants. Other companies are doing the same thing and moving jobs overseas. Stinks doesn't it? But until we citizens of the US start insisting on stiff tariffs to anyone using labor outside of the US the trend will continue, especially since the lawmakers don't give a crud (probably due to payoffs).
6. If you're really making all of the money you're claiming then good for you - especially if you're not working extra hours. Be happy for yourself and don't knock another company. It makes you look bad. One person's dream job is another person's disaster. I'm sure that where-ever you're working now has people who say bad things about it.

No and re-read my post - I sent an email to payroll with my banking information and asked them to Fed-Ex my check directly to the bank -- yes, I am having a payroll deduction for this, but it is because for the branch of my bank it is 3 hours away.
JLG is NOT the only company that does this as FutureNet does it as well as far as no DD and mailing or sending checks.
I really don't know why the post below is in response to
my post. I have no complaints about CardioScribes. I just wanted to let the original poster know that I did receive my line count report and she would also receive hers. I am very happy at CardioScribes. I had some issues in the beginning, but my team lead and Tonya went out of their way to address my issues, which are no longer issues. In other words, they took care of me and did everything in their power to make me happy and that I am....HAPPY!
I think the post above you was in response to:
nm
Please post your response
Please be sure to publicize the IRS response you get. That way, these companies will get the idea this is wrong and can't dispute it. Plus, we'd all like to know too. If the answer is out there enough, the MTSOs will have to abide by it.

I had the same thing -- hired by companies -- DD thing and if not immediate a paper check -- then for some reason it didn't work either way, I have never had a problem with identity theft on the part of an employer even after leaving for several months -- I just think that if it did happen, the bank could trace it and the MTSO employee who tried to do it would be in deep poop

Most of the companies that I have worked for in the past had a built in method of counting lines. I was told by the person who supervised me at the company to just take the character count iwth lines and spaces in Microsoft Word and divide by 65 which is what I did. When the line count came back from the hospital with them using Sylcount, by their methods, I had been shorted approximately 1,000 lines. I am being compensated by the company for those lines. I then proceeded the other day to download both Practicount and Sylcount, however for some reason, I could not get a line count. With Sylcount, it was a trial version, and I found out via the grapevine that with a trial version, it would not count the lines. I then received a liscened copy of Practicount, from the company; however, again for some reason, it would not count the lines. As to the other issue involved, because of a family emergency with my current landlord, I am having to find another place to rent. Right now, my search is limited to weekends and this was explained to both the supervisor and the owner of the company but to no avail.
I think it may have been in response to the post just below from Wanda....
nm
the post was removed and my response
I worked for them, if you do clinic, ask about demographics, as you need to find the schedule, then find the name and MRN, go back, fill in all demo screens, takes a lot of time, for a 2 minute note, is a waste, you won't get a lot of lines that way. My QA was good, supervisor was not. University accounts have a lot of different dictators. They pay on time.
Response to your post re: Wireless
Just a bit confused regarding your post and wireless. You mentioned that TT said it was not acceptable. Are you referring to a wireless router set up, where for example you are getting a signal off of someone else's wireless connection or are you referring to an air card through a cell phone provider?
The reason I ask is that I live in town and can hook up through my landlady's wireless router, however, the signal is not very strong and I have had problems with connecting through the VPN at times and staying connected. I also have a USB wireless air card, which I purchased through Sprint when I lived in a rural area and could not get either cable or DSL for a period of time. Spint, Verizon and many of the other cell phone carriers now have USB wireless air cards which you just plug into a free USB port on your computer. The biggest problem with this kind of card is that you have to be in relatively close proximity to a cell phone tower in order to be able to get any kind of speed for your uploads and downloads.
Also, with an air card, you have to commit to so many years, and you may have to pay for the card. I was lucky enough to get my air card through Sprint for free (Normally around $200 I think) and I pay $60 a month for unlimited internet service.
There are MANY companies out there that allow this kind of a setup. The company that I am working for now allows this, as well as FutureNet. Most of the time, if you explain the situation of having an air card to your technical person, there are ways of getting the program to work. Hope this helps.
In response to Janets post
Janet, in response to your question -- you work 5 days a week, if your schedule falls on a weekend or a holiday -- yes, you are EXPECTED to work -- holidays are a bit lax -- I am NOT taking it out on you personally, but HOSPITALS operate 24/7 and 365 days a year -- my daughter is a nurse and does not get holidays off unless she schedules way in advance (and she is just a year into her career) -- I get soooo tired of I don't want to work weekends, I don't want to work holidays that I could scream -- I know you took the job to be with your kids but think of how business would be otherwise - when I was growing up, stores used to be TOTALLY closed on Sunday -- this is no longer the case -- bet the grocery checkers and everyone else dosent gripe about working weekends or holidays -- Ithis is a career and you have to take the good with the bad.
I normally get up in the morning, have my coffee check email do checking of my system and hit the ground running -- sometimes I have good days and sometimes I have awful days, but I have been in this profession for over 30 years and if I have had to had a holiday off, move et cetra I have scheduled it ahead of time either that too, holidays do not necessarily have to be celebrated on THAT PARTICULAR day.
Off my soapbox
Then why was posted in response to MY post? - sm
Am I supposed to know it's for the OP?? And I'm quite relaxed and chilled out. Maybe you're the one who needs to relax and giving orders.
and if you click on that post asking, you will see response under.

I recall your post. You did not get a response and it was YOU
who were very rude and downright nasty. My goodness, you have no insight whatsoever.
The answer to your question would have taken a great deal of time to answer, perhaps others did not want to get into it.
I decided NOPE after I read your post, though never did find initial post question.
Not sure, but I come across people who literally expect adoption papers to be taken out and get angry when this does not come about.
I think ya all DO have a
hip aw rooon the shoulder, just don't have the energy or inclination to bother. Sorry.
I'm unclear as to what this response has to do with My Opinion's post.

Jo..I e-mailed you a response about your original post....(nm)
mmmm
Do you think you get a better response to post your resume on here or answer ads on here. Which one
seems to give the best result.
Sounds good to me, too! Where do I apply?!?
I'm an optimistic person - no company could be worse than the one I've been with forever. Sounds like a nice starting salary with hope for the future.
not likely do any good to apply, she is PT & wanted FT nm
.
With all the negative posts in response to a positive post, I am
surprised that anyone posts anything here.
I do not work for Keystrokes but I like to see what is out there, and the benefits they are offered, if coupled with a decent line rate and steady work load, are better than most I have seen.
Gone are the days of fully-paid pension plans. Gone are the days of three weeks' vacation. Employers cannot afford these, and not just in transcription.
If you aren't interested or do not like something, just ignore the post. You obviously were interested or you would not have read it.
Can't we cut back on the nasty posts on this board? If it does not concern you, don't criticize.
If you are not looking for a new position, don't gripe about ones that are being offered. If you are looking and a company's line rates, benefits or perks don't meet your personal requirements, why cut that company down? Just move on and good luck finding what you are looking for.
I agree with the poster about being mad at the entire industry, but I still love my career choice. It has been a good fit for me and has allowed me to live a nice lifestyle.
If I wasn't happy, I'd move on to another career.
did anyone get a response from the original poster? this post is just fishy, especially since they

Is this a good time to apply at Transtech?
What kind of changes? I am looking to apply there and have heard good things. I don't want
to go in blind, but all the postings are so vague. Can you give me an example so I can decide for myself?
Good post
These are all things many MTs apparently don't look at. Low rates offered because you can work at home. The only thing you save is commuting cost. They save tons and tons. You should be getting pd more for at-home work, not less.
From what I see in the MT world, these folks are so busy trying to undercut each other's prices rather than acknowledging the amount of education needed to do a good job and getting higher rates.
Did you know that the AAMT was trying to get legislation passed that will prohibit anyone not certified by them from working in the field? You think about that next time you think those little initials at $350 mean something.
Good post. (nm)

Good Post
You've got some valid points. I am definitely one of the wounded from MQ, but to be honest, I have not been with TT long enough to encounter any major issues...and for that matter, I never really checked my lines at MQ either. I could have been totally ripped off and never knew it. To me, it is of great comfort to work where I feel appreciated, and yes....part of that is a result of the wounding. I guess maybe my head is somewhere else....I am second income, I don't want to dig that deep to make sure I am getting every single penny and line. I come from the Good Ol Days, when a line was a line and boy....did we get paid well, from the days of Pica and Elite, and everyone got Pica, because that was only 10 characters to an inch. Any of you newbies out there won't understand what the heck I'm talking about....but those were the days. I feel sorry for all of Veteran MTer's, who knew the day of $1000.00 a week paychecks...but those days are gone. We were so busy making money then, that the technology just went behind our backs and kicked our butts. So, well....what do we do about it? We could be a nurse, or we could go out and start looking for another career at our ages. Me? NO THANKS! I'm happy and content, and feel blessed with TT that I can still sit in the comfort of my home (making half the money I used to mind you), but TT still has that MA and PA type feel. I love it. Go back to work and put up with peers? NO THANKS! Sometimes when I read these boards...I reinforce my feelings as to WHY I still work at home and make half the money. Okay....enough running on. Gotta go. Gotta work later. Gonna go pay some much-deserved attention to my family that they never got when I worked for the Q. Bye-bye everybody. Have a blessed day.
Very good post
You bring up some very good points.
The big picture is quite scary. I experienced Katrina on the coast, and I kept feeling like I was in a war zone, the devastated environment, the (temporary) martial law in effect, confusion and chaos, reporters obessing on certain story angles and completely ignoring other more vital ones, and all the bureaucratic bunging before during and after....and I realized America is not equipped to handle big disasters, yet we remain in denial and have learned very little from that experience.
Yes, we pay lip service to privacy with HIPAA regulations for ourselves, then send our medical records overseas where the laws don't apply. Every time I am made to comply with another restriction to satisfy HIPAA, I wonder why we bother - so we can delude ourselves that everything is safe and secure? We KNOW it isn't. God forbid I should copy a medical record (without patient identifiers) in order to do a better job tomorrow - it might be a privacy violation! - but its perfectly fine to send it overseas where some disgruntled person can email it all over the world with no legal repurcussions! Or use it for dark political motives, should the record belong to someone famous, or get rich tattling the details to a tabloid.
Its insane that we voluntarily give up more and more freedoms in this country to artificially bump up our sense of security, while undermining that security in a big way by deliberately giving other countries the opportunity to take our jobs, take our private information, and take our way of life, piece by piece. Why are we doing this, and why don't we stop? Are we so short-sighted that we blame the economy for our economic woes without realizing that we are undermining that economy by giving our jobs away and buying cheap imported products?
Why doesn't anybody see the cause and effect? They outsource a job, someone here loses theirs, has financial woes, has to get by cheap, purchases cheap imports, which causes a local factory to go belly up or outsource, and the spiral continues downward. Who will be the consumers of American products - the foreigners who took our jobs? Or will there simply no longer be American products, and no American jobs as a result?
good post
You hit the head on the nail.
Good post!!
I'm always amused at the posts wanting info on the same companies over and over again. Most of us who have been in this business a long time have a fellow MT working for just about every MT company so it is easy to get the poopy-scoopy first hand. Just look at the views on the jobs board. I wager most of these views are not from 30 year veterans! The companies do not care who does the work or whether it is fair or not.
I would never tolerate being out of work either. My contract (or employment) was between myself and the company I worked for, NOT with my fellow MTs. Has nothing to do with being selfish or considerate. If you don't take the work when it's there someone else will do it and keep right on doing it so likely you will never have any work.
There were a number of factors that made me make the decision to retire. Probably would have gone to work for another company, even considered it, then I got the poopy-scoopy from an insider that said that heretofore good company was on a downhill slide. So I'm done with it. MT is no longer a desirable career IMHO.
Very good and thorough post, and you are
can you help me with my problem above? LOL. All kidding aside, I truly believe in books of labor practices, somewhere, there must be something that prohibits employers or management from posing as lower level employees and misrepresenting the aspects of their job. I just have to find it and I will. Liar, liar, pants on fire!
Now YOURS is a good post! sm
The companies don't *owe you* a living because you can't make ends meet. You either get better at what you do (work smarter, not harder) or pick up extra work with another company. You can't expect them to pay you for NOT WORKING because you can't make money.
The handwriting is on the wall in this industry and if we don't all change and adapt, we should get into another profession.
good post.

Good post.
I know someone who was just hired though. I also remember the threads on the newcomers only able to transcribe 5 reports a day until they were off QA. Oh yeah, I totally see that as looking out for your contractors... NOT! I'd go broke! If I'm not mistaken, Transcend pays their employees during their training period an hourly rate. Now that's what I call looking out for the newcomer! I don't work for them either.
Everyone knows you get more bees with honey!
No, they are not the only company out there that hires great MTs, are nice - which is important to so many on this board, and give you flexibility..... You just have to look for them; that's all....

Good post....just an FYI
For those considering applying for unemployment, be prepared that it may take months, not weeks, especially considering how many people are on and applying for unemployment these days. I have a friend who applied in September 2008 and, after appeal, did not receive a final decision until Februrary 2009, which was a denial. If you can afford to do it, then go for it, but do not plan on receiving the money and do not borrow money to cover your expenses during that time, as there is a good possibility that you will not ever receive compensation.
This is a really good post. sm
I agree with a lot of what you said. The field is changing and we have to adapt, but then again, isn't EVERY field changing, even globally? We started out with G6 summits, then went to G8, now it's G20. One comment I wanted to share though is that even though the fields are changing, the economic climate is changing for the worst. Capitalism has now become a dirty word because it isn't what it used to be. In the 60s, capitalism stood for the American Dream. Michael Moore (and PLEASE don't think I'm a fan b/c I'm not!) had it right when he said in this day and age capitalism is nothing more than legalized greed. You touched on that when you said that corporations are MANDATED to bring in the most money for their shareholders. Now unfortunately, the gap between the 'average' middle-income American and those at the top is widening at a frightening rate, with us middle-income people racing towards the poverty level.
Diversifying means of income isn't really going to change that. It might put a Band-Aid on a lacerated jugular vein. Real change is only going to happen when the laws governing capitalism are changed. Sadly, I don't see that happening too soon since most of the legislators are those same 'shareholders' and those at the top. These are really scary times that we live in. So, at the very least, coming on this board and screaming at the top of our lungs about MTSOs is really the only release we have...the last little bit of control we have. And, to be honest, a lot of times we do it, not because of capitalism and the fact that these huge conglomerates and CEOs get away with what they do, but because of the way we are treated by the management that represents them. Some management is good...some isn't. We scream at the top of our lungs because we know THEY read it. Unfortunately for them, the good ones are caught in the crossfire. It's really no different than the excellent MTs being caught in the crossfire of the angry managers who send out scathing emails regarding accounts being out of TAT. It just happens.
I say if we want to use this board to scream away, HAVE AT IT. We know we can't really change a whole lot here, but boy it feels good to let off that steam. Off my soapbox now. lol
but this is why it's better to post the good things
Take cpl to email. You can post great things about a company, but once you post how much you make (no matter what company), you are going to upset a lot of people who are inevitably making less than you do. If you must, post a pay range because you can't say they pay 10 cpl period, because obviously they don't.
Nothing good. Recent post says you get
paid when they get paid.
Good post. But hopefully they will just fade
.
Very good post. Unfortunately I think its too late for them
to wake up and smell the coffee. They have already lost many of their very good MTs and editors. If they keep on going the way they are now, they will lose accounts.
I just want to comment about the AAMT selection of employer of the year. I did not know how the winner of the award was chosen, and I'm not saying management would send in those forms for themselves, BUT I highly doubt that anyone who works at Medware would send in a nomination on their behalf these days.
