are lucky to make that in some companies! That is way over the top, I highly doubt it.
Why do supervisors who insist they are not paid to transcribe cherry pick accounts to death?
They could really show some leadership ability if they took the bad dictators and left a few easy reports for those of us who would appreciate an easy report once in a while.
Talk to your supervisors and managers...
Do your supervisors and managers offer an open door policy for you to bring your frustrations and concerns? If they do (or don't) take those thoughts and bring it to them. If you haven't done so, that is the best place to start to resolve these frustrations. If they don't show any interest in what you have to say, then let them know you are dissatisfied with their replies and let them know you would like to proceed discussing your concerns with their supervisor. Hope it works out for you!

Having been in this field way longer than I like to think, and having been in enough jobs over that time, I want to make a suggestion to the owners of MT businesses - It would be of great benefit to your business and the morale of your employees if there were performance reviews of supervisors, anonymously. If it appears that employees leave often, it is very likely due to poor management.
I should not have to say this but just because a person is in a supervisory position, it should not mean they are right for that job and/or above making mistakes, even if the mistake is the inability to relate in a professional manner to others. In this business, it is easier to find a new job than attempt to resolve issues such as this. Morale is so important to keep a team functioning and performing and since there is so little interaction with the public, MTs have to rely on feedback from their supervisors to gauge their performance. A bad supervisor can wreck havoc on an account.
So, here is some advice. If there is more than one employee who requires upper level assistance in dealing with a supervisor with a year, there is a good chance that particular supervisor is displaying some form of behavior that is negative, whether it be intimidation, showing favoritism, passive aggression, deciding how much money one MT as opposed to another makes by job allocation, rewarding OT to favorite MTs, condescending treatment, using forms of behavior to embarrass MTs, holding grudges and emotional abuse.
Now, I know the MTs are far from perfect but we are rewarded by that by eventually losing our jobs or making less money. Whereas a supervisor is on salary and can ruin a person's day or even work life by having a supervisor who has personality disorders which border on neurotic. (How is their family life???? Great gauge.)
I will look forward to seeing the responses. Finding a good fit in a job is one thing but everything can be perfect except for personality conflicts with a supervisor and if it happens often enough that it is idlely spoken about, the supervisor should be asked to receive additional training so to perform their duties in a fashion that leads to high performance MTs and low employment turn around.
Dealing with issues like this is a distraction that an MT should not be expected to do. It is your job as a business owner to provide us with management which is doing that and only that, managing the accounts and not trying to play God.

All I can say is.. BAD COMMUNICATION..
They have a "front" office in Mass.. but your supervisors and QA are in India.
Your tech support is also based in India. You communicate with your supervisors via Yahoo IM. They are in India so when you have questions they are the ones answering your questions. Good luck with the communication. Also, remember your paycheck is penalized for errors. This would not be so bad if people sitting in India were not the ones QA-ing your work. That is where the real issue comes in. If I can hardly communicate with them, why would I want them in charge of my paycheck. I mean truly do you want them deciding what is proper English, I think NOT

Maybe it is the same with any job, but I remember when my mother died, the MTSO called me and said you sound back to normal. I really needed more time off but I don't get paid time off.
At another big national, I was deathly sick with bronchitis and they were still cracking the whip. I was lying down every half hour or so, but still got my lines done. I remember telling the supervisor how sick I was and she didn't say a word, not a word.
You have to wonder if the supervisors that dont care about no work are always
getting new MTs because they quit all the time.

To say the work that comes in from India is awful...
... is an understatement. I would pull some of those jobs that had beentranscribed in India and there were some that had entire sections crossed out and retyped because they were wrong (and scary wrong too - wrong medications...). The hospital I used to work for uses them and when I still worked at HealthScribe India was doing this hospitals discharge summaries. I refuse to use that hospital because I know the transcription will be of very poor quality andI refuse to play games with my health and the health of my loves ones.

AAMT cannot discriminate because of this law (I asked them years ago). I think 50% of new MTs being from India shows their determination and pursuit of excellence; perhaps American MTs need to follow their example and compete! I challenge MTs to be the best they can, and that is at this pont determined by their ability to pass the CMT exam. Go, girls!

You are a fool to think US work won't go to India
Happened to a group of us. We had a US force and India force, and guess what, it was more cost efficient to send ALL work overseas, hence all US employees laid off. You really are naive to think they won't do that someday, but I hope you drain their pockets dry before they do.
What has sending work to India done?
We have upset the economy of India, creating an even larger rift and making the poor even poorer because we have inflated the economy in the cities and of those who have had a chance to be educated. The poor have lost even more footing.
We have lost job opportunities for our own Americans, but the companies continue charge the hospitals the same amount for transciption, however their overhead continues to drop, corporate salaries continue to increase and our rate of pay stays the same or drops.
India is a country that allows very very little importing of anything made in the US, so it is a 1 way deal for them.
The individuals from other companies do not pay taxes, so we continue to pay to support those in our country who have gone on the public roles for aid and assistance.
Wouldn't it be nicer to have some of these people working again?

If you have any familiarity with this company, you know that the none of the DRC/Acusis accounts are allowed by the clients to be typed outside of the US.
So YES, there was a lay-off, but NO it didn't have anything to do with India.
PS: Offshore and outsource are not the same thing. But you know that, too, right? ;-)
It's not just overhiring. They are sending the best work to India.
They have always sent work there but I believe they have geared up these efforts in the past six months, and the easiet work (ER). That is when I noticed there was not consistent work. I had to move on and so will others.

Then by all means, hire on with Keystrokes. I had just started with them but after I saw my review, I told them I did not want to work for them. They nit-pick every comma, etc., to death and there was no way I was going to put up with that. These services get so carried away by all the insignificant crap that they just drive away anyone who is a good MT but doesn't want to put up with the nit-picking. Good luck.

I wish they would monopolize the India market and totally stick with that...
I also posted an article about this a few weeks back, even with pictures of the offices in India (lot nicer than here).
hope they put all their money into it and then when technology takes all our jobs, they will have nothing.
Medquist, hate it or not, has invested rather in the technology, thereby will be the leaders in that. if I worked there I would train and learn everything I could about working with that technology because that eventually, in my opinion, will drive even Indian MTs into unemployment.

Let me sum it up for you, 80% of work is done in India, they just laid off a bunch of American
QA people, some of which were hired only a few months before they were fired, and they just now fired a lot of their upper management. Something is in the wind at Focus and it smells like crap! Don't work there. If you do decide to ignore the warnings, don't believe anything they tell you! They lie to you right up until they call and fire you.
