I think in our case the opposite is true. Our hospital census is down for inpatients but ED and outpatient have gone up by over 30%. Reason is people have put off their routine care for lack of money and/or insurance and wait until they can't wait any longer, thus flood the ERs, urgent care facilities and outpatient facilities. Our revenues, however, are way down because these same people can't pay. So the hospital is looking to cut anything it can, including staff, and making the rest of us work three times as hard to make up for it! We have a hiring freeze, wage freeze, less staff but 30% more patients!

By seeing the email herself, the OP knows for a fact the issue has indeed been addressed. Without seeing it herself in writing, she couldn't be certain whether anything was being done to correct the problem.
Personally, when I've felt it necessary to point out something to my supervisor, I appreciate seeing the evidence in writing that the problem is being dealt with.
