Do they seem to have alot of accounts? Is pay still low?

I worked for them and they are closed on weekends so what they send you on Friday gives you all weekend to toggle it. Some of their work is also 48 hour turnaround time but depends on account. They pay on time also but no direct deposit.

Looks like they are having problems again keeping their staff - they also have ads on other sites for recruiters - they just hired one a couple of months ago and they left - I here their tech staff is dwindling down too. Makes you wonder why they have the high TAT - I heard they had problems paying, hope all is well with MTs still there. We all know when a company is having problems it is our bottom line that hurts.

It seems like every time (prior to the most recent fun going on there) when someone spoke of the BAD THINGS there, there ws that one MT that knew it all and said how great it was, and even called out one poster saying she knew why and when she was let go. I recall someone tried to call them out as a manager, seems like it must be true. No one has anything nice to say now. Did she not get paid too, is that why she is so quiet now?
I think if you get a check and it bounces you need to press charges. I guarantee you if D&L is paid by a bad check they would raise the roof. Unfortunately, the roof is pretty much falling in on them now. Not so many more stories can be told by them - they are running out of excuses.
I hope the Transcriptionist keep up the good fight and get what is theirs, and of course - I hope any company that would do this to others gets what they deserve as well.

Unfortunately D&L is not out of business - wishful thinking perhaps on your part (and mine). Also, they did have a manager for three years who quit last year amid some storm and controversy - possibly she knew and got out quick - or was there another scandal not mentioned - who knows? And the post referred to was probably posted by the owner sticking up for D&L posing as IC, if you search back through the pages you will know which one was discussed. You are right, not one old or current IC will stick up for any owner of D&L, but their employees were great people. I wish them and the IC well, and hope they get their money.
D&L Typing Service--Trouble with Pay?
Is anyone else besides me being given the runaround about being paid, i.e., when payroll ends, when payday is, and when checks are mailed, etc. from this company? I was told paychecks are to be mailed on one day, only to be told they were mailed out the next day, and have not been paid and do not believe they ever mailed a check to begin with. Please say it ain't so.

I started for D&L not too long ago. So far, they had never run out of work, but then had some technical issues with the account I was on...that was a month ago, and we have been typing and retyping month old work, the same reports, over and over again as they are testing the system. My supervisors mentioned worry about D&L having lost the account, and having us do busywork in order to try to scramble to retrieve it. Also, numerous people have had their paychecks bounce, they do not return phone calls about the bounced checks, and the owners do not care one way or the other about the people they hire. DO NOT work for this company, unless all you want is a one way ticket to stress and headaches!

first, that was not a manager, it was a D&L IC who gave the company the benefit of the doubt as did a lot of D&L ICs and employees. D&L did not have managers ever. The owners are pathetic excuses for human beings who are choosing to hide behind the internet walls and be cowards. It will catch up to them...karma has a strange way of doing that. D&L has now supposedly gone out of business....be on the look out for any office located in Stroudsburg PA area or any company you cannot find verification on that someone has worked for them! Be very, very cautious that you are not dealing with the OLD D&L Typing Service! The independent contractors that worked for this company are amazing people and were one heck of a crew...and I do not know of any supervisor type person D&L had who stuck up for D&L ever!! D&L did everyone bad, took advantage of their hard working ICs and employees and then skated out when their money maker quit on them! No one knew what was really going on but the owners and you are right the MTs deserve every penny and then some that they do get from D&L...I just pray they get it!
How many of you actually work for more than one service
and would you recommend doing so to others? I am very seriously considering working for two separate MTSOs PT. One would be day shift and the other evenings. I am wondering if others do this and find that they have better paychecks than when working for one MTSO full-time.

I have been doing this too long to not know how many lines I can get. I cannot put my finger on the problem -- I just know it does fall in my lap.
This is really disturbing to me.
If you work for a service, you are more likely to have all the specialties; however,
If an MT has for example only worked in house or for one hospital their specialties might be more limited. For instance, my first in-house job was for a hospital that specialized in high-risk OB and ortho, but the cardiology procedures and neurosurgeries were done at a sister hospital.
Now that I have worked for a service, there isn't a specialty in the hospital setting I haven't done.
Another thought - maybe, just maybe they are trying to match MTs up with the specialties they like best, not just have knowledge of - Now wouldn't THAT be a plus!

I've gotten out of the MT service ghetto. I work for a hospital. And guess what...

Maybe I should quit my $18 an hour, 800 line minimum requirement with 0.06 cpl incentive for anything over 1000 lines a day, awesome health and dental benefits, work at home job because I shouldn't have to deal with rude people, should I?

that work for a smaller company? That could not be further from the truth. Some of the larger companies can attract better MTs with benefits, higher pay, etc than a smaller company ever can.
I think it depends on the MTs, not the service, as to the quality of the work.
I work for one of the companies the OP mentioned and the QA standards are MUCH more strict than smaller companies I have worked for in the past.

I'm glad you never run out of work..you must be typing (sm)
a specialty other than ERs. I ran out of work quite often over 8 years but could usually make it up later in the week or in the evenings. MQ also lost several different ER accounts that I typed so that was another reason for no work. Starting in January 2006 after they introduced their rewards pay scale, through July there were days when I typed 3-4 reports when I signed on and then the rest of the day had little or no reports. I constantly asked for more work but MQ told me they had no more ER accounts. I did other basic 4 types but ran out of those as well. I even asked for a Radiology account because I had done Radiology for a local hospital several years earlier. I wish things had been different for me at MQ because they were always flexible with me and I had good benefits there. I planned on staying there for the rest of my career. That was why it took me so long to leave, I thought things would pick up and get better. I'm glad some people still like it there and have plenty of work. I wish that had been the case with me.

How long have you been with TT? Anyone in mgmt will tell you that they outsourced work to another service in the past.

With the work flows are down across the board. Now is not really the time to tell anyone to come work for TT.

flexible, not flexable Spheris, not Spheirs MedQuist, cap the Q appreciated, not appriciated Also, it would be, ... with flexible hours (for those sleepless nights). ... I think if you will have difficulty finding and holding a job with those kinds of mistakes.

I work for Keystrokes and have never heard that you had to have digital phone service (sm)
I used Embarq for about 3 months and made the change to digital because I got the letter from Embarq saying I was wasn't allowed to use the unlimited long distance that much. I also switched to digital because it is cheaper and truly is unlimited long distance at the same rate every month. I was never once told by Keystrokes that I had to have digital. The only thing they ever told me was I had to have unlimited long distance.

I also work for 8 cents a line. I left a job typing OPs for 10-11 cents sm
to take a clinic job. I made an average of $17-18 an hour with OPs, now make $16-17 an hour, but the work is easier on me. I do not call that poor pay. I type 200+ lines an hour. True, it isn't the $26-27 an hour I was making 10 years ago at a hospital, but that's gone for good. I have excellent skills, make better than 99% on QA at any company I have worked for, and some of those have been very demanding.
I'm afraid the people that are expecting to make $20-30 an hour in MT are going to be disappointed. A few can still make that amount, but for the average good transcriptionist, the pay is much more likely to run $15-20. Benefits are pretty much gone. However, I feel that what I'm making is considerably above what I could make in another field, unless I decide to teach, which I will not do. Still, I make more than I would at Walmart or Burger King, or even a secretarial job. It's my choice. Good luck to you.

can anyone explain the difference of using an FTP and that of a company that expects one to have cable or high speed internet? I have been doing this for little over a year and hope this does not sound like a dumb question. Thank you for your help.

What service is she offering exactly? The service of placing yet another ad on the job board making us believe it is a completely different job only to be hired for the same account that Superior has listed right below it? Are you flipping serious? You honestly think we need this service? What a nice gig she has. I would love to place a bunch of ads and get people to work for a company and take a couple cents for each person I find. She must be exausted working so hard for us needy MTs. Thanks bunches TTD!!! At my very first outside service
job back in 1990 I was paid 7.5 cents per line based on a 55 character line for clinic work and a line was a line was a line. If I typed Sincerely, it was considered a line. None of this BS about characters only or black characters or no spaces or some other tomfoolery to rip off the MT. A large employer who has settled recently in a class action used to make us work on a 90-character line and then convert it to 55 when sent to the hospital and pocket the difference. Outrageous!
While I realize we will never have a line is a line again, unless you strike a good deal with a private doctor, I agree that a minumum 10 cpl (probably one of those tomfoolery lines to boot) in this day and age is not an obscene amount to ask for.

Working for an MT service...
9 cpl is about the highest I've seen.
Never rely on just one MT service...sm
In my 13 years as an MT, I have been nearly evicted because I relied on only 1 company to make ends meet. After that experience, I vowed to always keep at least two companies to work for. It takes about that many or more just to make job security in this industry, depending on who you work for.
I'm really hearing good things about Transtech and Keystrokes, though I've never been involved with either one. They are saying these companies give you back-up accounts with plenty of work. Again, this is hearsay from this forum. Sounds like it is worth a shot, though.
The PTO is according to your length of service
I work there and get 7.08 hours per check. I haven't noticed less PTO. My complaint is the HEALTH INSURANCE for MTs (NOT Management). Ours stinks this year. NO RAISES. Any extra money we make will go to paying medical bills the INSURANCE DOESN'T COVER and RX which is NOT covered anymore. They give us $500 to spend for the whole year and that's it. Then the deductible kicks in and it is $5000!!!! I am checking other companies.
Same happened to me with a different service sm
Priority Transcription out of Ohio. And I was not the only one who did not get paid. I guess that owner's priority is to stiff her MTs and keep the money herself. All I can say is karma.
