professionalism.

As an IC, the only thing I care about is direct deposit, being paid promptly on the 1st and 15th, and well, and good feedback so I can do my job to the best of my ability.

If you want high-caliber transcriptionists, treat them with the respect they deserve. We are the educated ones who care about what we are doing. We are the ones who insert that Foley before we begin our day.

Don't treat your ICs as employees. They are not your employee; they are providing a service to you.

QA: This is a service YOU provide the client and your transcriptionists.

What makes me stay: Appreciation for the excellent transcription that I provide, my integrity, and compensation for it.

What makes me leave: Dishonesty, in-fighting, unprofessionalism, divas, and insincerity.

If you want to be the best company, be the best person.

1. Up front, honest, human, appreciative, and loyal to your employees/ICs.

2. The best companies don't terminate high-caliber, productive employees/ICs. If the client is unhappy with him/her, work with them. At least offer another account and let them decide, leaving their dignity intact. That would be the humane thing to do. Then you wouldn't get flamed on this board.

3. Find an Editor who not only knows her stuff but is diplomatic. You don't want to lose good people because of the emotional factor.

4. Your loss is another MTSO's gain.

5. Don't burn your bridges or hold grudges. You may have let a good Transcriptionist go in the heat of the moment and now regret it. Be the bigger person. Send out a flyer, a postcard, or an e-mail....Calling all transcriptionists! Let them know what changes have been made in your organization. You never know, they may have gotten over the pain, you, and themselves, and you come out smelling like a rose! If they call or e-mail and decide to come back to you, that's great! Everyone's ego is intact and you acquire a cheerleader on this board.

If anyone out there would like to hire me as a business consultant or transcriptionist (I do it all), please e-mail me at radtrans@comcast.net and we'll talk!

Best of luck to to you.
