State vs County job
I would go with the State job. Lower pay BUT you will be a state employee. I've been an MT for 35+ years and love it, but hate it. Outsourcing WILL come and when it does, you'll be in a mess. Take the state and start putting away some benefits from it. Good Luck!!
Does anyone have info on Northeast Transcription Inc? TIA
/
Any info on Northeast Transcription? sm
A service in Maine.  Any feedback appreciated.
Any new info about Northeast? Pay? Platform? QA?
Archives are showing no new info since about 2006, was wondering how things were now.   How is the platform?  From archived info I see pay was 7-8 cpl for 70 character line, which I'm not thrilled about but I love Psych so tough decision for me personally.  Any info on QA would be great if anyone knows.  TIA!!
Any info on Northeast Transcription?

I tried the archives, but northeast and transcription brings up a lot of stuff that has nothing to do with the company.  Thank you

Tri-State transcription Service info?

Anyone with information, good or bad, for Tri-State Transcription Service out of Pittsburg Pa?  Thank you in advance for your help!!!!!

Too many questions, need to narrow it down...

You've asked a lot of questions here, may be putting some folks off from taking the time to answer.

I would suggest you start by deciding what your priorities are...do you have to have health insurance or other benefits? If not, IC usually/sometimes pays better and offers more personal freedoms.  Do you need the more flexible schedule that IC sometimes offers, or are you okay with commiting to a set shift/schedule?

Is your experience primarily acute care or clinic? are you more interested in one than another?

You will get different responses based on whether you are looking for IC vs employee, also full-time rather than part-time, acute care vs clinic, etc.  You are the only one who can decide those things, but I think once you do, then you can ask some more specific questions, such as which companies have good benefit packages for full time employees.

The MT field certainly isn't what it used to be, like it or not. But as far as I'm concerned its still as good a place as any to make a living, especially with the benefits of working at home which to me are hard to put a price on.  Good luck to you!

It's this kind of narrow thinking, though ...
... that leads to big problems. See, you, personally, may not feel like you're being harmed. And the company's sure getting what they want. Sweet deal, right?

Not really.

Taxes that should be going to the government are not - and you may just be one person with a small amount of taxes, but you're certainly not the only IC at your company, and your company isn't the only one that's illegally using employees as ICs.

In addition, because you're working like this, it means your company can artificially keep costs down, which in turn makes it EXTREMELY difficult for companies who want to hire - LEGALLY - employees and pay them livable wages to remain successful, grow, and improve the situation for transcriptionists.

The selfishness in thinking this is okay saddens me, but it confuses me even more that people don't understand that, with time, doing things legally will make everything better for everyone - even you.

And I think the saddest argument of all of this is the If I wasn't an IC, I wouldn't have any flexibility one.

Here's the deal:

In the last 10 years, working at home has become much more prevalent, as has flex time and the concept of doing what needs to be done and going home. The last two are true for many, many in-house jobs, as well as jobs done in the home.

While, back when internet transcription was first getting started, we could be 'kept in our place' by companies saying 'you're just lucky you can be working at home,' this is no longer true.

'Getting to stay at home' is no longer as special as it was, and I daresay that any one of us could find another job working at home - the schedule we want - and making nearly as much money if not more, if we applied ourselves and stopped being afraid of change.

Given all of this, why can't we ALL (companies, health care providers, and transcriptionists) find mutually acceptable solutions that are based on respect and appreciation from BOTH sides - and still stay within the law?
I work for Fast Chart. If you will narrow ... sm
...down your questions, I'll give you my honest opinion. I'm very happy there, but everyone's different, you know? What things are really important to you in a company? If you want to chat live, you can usually find me in the MT Cottage chat room (www.mtcottage.com).

=)
It is a very narrow field to get into and we love our jobs!
Certainly if you have a reputation as a job hopper, etc., you'll not get into this field easily.

I feel it is really a privileged position and I have no intention of telling anyone the company I work for!

Lancaster County
I lived in Lititz, PA for 3 years. It was a really neat place to live. Absolutely beautiful. My husband was transferred, so that is the only reason we left. It's about an hour and a half west of Philly. I grew up in Norristown (Montgomery County), but I wouldn't recommend that area.
CA County Hospitals . . .
I don't know about UC but the company I work for has a county hospital and payment was 3 months late. No IOU yet.
I'd ask to see copy of occup or county...nm

I think they are 4 hospitals in Broward County
if I recall correctly what the recruiter told me.
Washington County, IN- near Paoli Peaks Ski area
Hello friends - I didn't see this email yesterday but I'll respond anyway. I have worked as a Transcriptionist for the past six years. The first two years I worked for a local doctor until the office was re-vamped and all the work went to one person. I started looking around and found SecureMTSource out of Louisville. I have been employed with them for around four years and have only good to say. It is individually owned but is growing pretty fast. Pay is on time. My work comes from a general surgery group, any 1 of 50 doctors with only one ESL who I very rarely get. My line rate is great (if I compare it to things I read on this site). I recommend them!!
Yes, Broward County, Ft. Lauderdale area I believe. High ESL. nm

Unless something has changed, health insurance rates vary state by state, so we may not have the
info you need.  I'm an IC so I don't have benefits.
You are correct. The state that rules is the state the employee lives in.
My state laws has is spelled out in their Code. If another state does not withhold, they are fined heavily and if they don't withhold for years, their fines are pretty bad. I worked for a Florida co that did not withhold income tax for my state even after I brought it to their attention in the state code. They kept saying that they would eventually and never did. After two plus years and when I left, I made it known to my state all the conversations, the state refunded me all late fees they charged me and then said they were going after the company in Florida because they had many employees in our state. They deserved it. They knew better.
The state you live in or the state where the MTSO is located? nm
nm
If company is in state that has no state taxes
they are not required to take out state taxes.  It's enough to keep up with your own state tax law code, could you imagine having to stay abreast of 49 other state tax codes?  The cost would be huge and ultimately passed on to us by lower line rates.  Regardless of who owes the tax, someone has to pay it.  Just a matter of convenience I guess.
Not state by state, federal labor law - sm
and you don't have to be asked. If you work it, asked or not, they have to pay time and a half OT rate for hours worked over 40 in a week.

Taken right from U.S. Dept of Labor -
An employer who requires or PERMITS an employee to work overtime is generally required to pay the employee premium pay for such overtime work. Employees covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)MUST receive overtime pay for hours worked in excess of 40 in a workweek of at least one and one-half times their regular rates of pay. The FLSA does not require overtime pay for work on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, or regular days of rest.

Extra pay for working weekends or nights is a matter of agreement between the employer and the employee (or the employee's representative). The FLSA does not require extra pay for weekend or night work or double time pay.

Different state to state. You would be surprised to find

IC can be defined differently state to state.  Even the IRS cannot come up with a definitive set of rules.  You would be surprised how many ICs actually get unemployment in some states.  If the unemployment claim form asks specifically if you are an independent contractor, do not lie, but if it does not, do not volunteer it.  Let the company prove you are a true IC according to the rules of your state.  All you lose is a few minutes filling out the claim form.  I would only do it as a last resort.  If you can find work fast, by all means go for it, but the way things are now with all the VR and off-shoring, it is a backup if you cannot find work.  No one should go hungry because they are afraid to file for Unemployment as an IC.

They should take out state taxes for the state
nm
It varies from state to state
nm
Varies from state to state
My own state recognizes partial unemployment, too, when your work gets cut down to half of your regular workload/income.
Northeast (NTI)

I work for Northeast. Great people, great pay for Northeast area, great work and always lots and lots of work -- Pay is ALWAYS on time. NO SCHEDULE. They are very very flexible as long as you let them know in advance of days off. Other than that on a day-to-day basis, they are extremely flexible. Strict but fair and no complaints here! Good luck!

Happy MT

Northeast

I really don't know...all I know is that I have to give them a general idea of what hours I want to work and that is it ....days, nights, how many hours, etc. Very flexible.

They are always getting new clients..perhaps one of them needs to have someone there for certain hours.

Northeast
It was Tennessee
There's another one out there, I think it's Northeast - sm
Transcription, that snottily says something to the effect of, Residents of (?) and California need not apply.
My guess is they prefer applicants from the parts of the country with a lower cost-of-living. Smacks of discrimination, if you ask me.
Northeast Transcription

Does anyone have any information on this company?  I can't seem to find very much.

Northeast transcription
You mean after all that testing only 7 to 8 cent on a 70 character line.
Northeast Transcription
Has anyone that applied for the radiology positions heard anything from the company yet?  TIA
Northeast Transcription

Anybody have any current information about Northeast Transcription Inc. in Portland, Maine?  Am wondering about what kind of company they are and whether they are good to work for, have benefits, etc.  Any info is appreciated.  TIA!

Northeast Transcription
Anyone work for, or have you ever worked for Northeast Transcription.  Just applied.  Any information would be appreciated.
Wonder why Northeast Transcription
says residents of California need not apply? That's strange
I worked for Northeast-
No complaints. Had an excellent traning program and excellent dictators. The only reason I quit is I am an IC and like to stay that way-Don't like to be tied to a full-time schedule
Northeast Transcription
Anybody work for this company that could provide some info on them?
Northeast Transcription
I would highly recommend this company. I went through their testing process and interview process and was excited to be starting with them. However, they don't have the proper credentials to do business in my state. So instead of just wishing me on my merry way, they have gone above and beyond the call and have passed on my test scores and information to another company they are familiar with. A company that has wonderful staff like Shannon and Terry would be awesome to work for!
I worked for Northeast
for about 7-8 months. Have no complaints. Just didn't like having to stick to a schedule
Northeast Transcription
Does anyone know anything about Northeast Transcription.  Is their work straight transcription of ASR. Anyone know what platform they use and anything about pay?
Northeast Transcription Inc.
Wondering if anyone could give more information about them. Not a lot on here about them. I just had an interview, and I think I like them, but would like real world experience from people working for them. How is the platform, the expander, are they flexible, easy to get the 1100 lines in an 8 hour day, etc.? Any help either here or to my email would be GREAT!

TYIA!
