All hot keys if you wish! nm

In VR I use no keys until
I come to a correction. I use my mouse and set over say the page, paragraph and read along. If a correction is needed, I place my mouse over that and either delete, put another word in. I do not scan with the mouse word by word. My eyes are editing, the mouse is just there. I do not use the combination keys like VRer does, just never wanted to learn, figured just would slow me down.
On VR have never used the keys
only the mouse and can keep up with the audio as fast as it goes. No idea about with the keys, just did not want to do.
Bayscribe hot keys
Double click the Productivity Tools Word Expander Icon on your desktop. Click the tab for Local Configuration and you can set hot keys for features to what you want.
Use shortcut keys
I forgot to say you should use all of the shortcut keys.

Alt K will take you to the red block and Alt . (period) will put a period at the end of the sentence as well as capitalize the next sentence.

Try practicing these.
I had heard had to use hot keys
in order to do more but been doing the same ole thing for so long do not use those. What are you averaging per hour, per day and compare that with what you were doing straight.
I believe you can reprogram the keys
I think you can re-program those command keys to suit your needs. Contact the Emdat help desk about it. I know I did reprogram a couple of mine.
Of course I use the shortcut keys, but
what do the shortcut keys have to do with the quality of the work that ISR spews out? The whole idea is that we shouldn't have to do much editing!! That is the whole premise behind ISR. But my experience has been one of very tedious time consuming editing that never gets any better. Often times even seems to be getting worse. I'm just giving my experience.
sometimes when I do Ctrl Ctrl to put
in a new expansion nothing happens, but my existing expansions still work. Then when I get out of Extext and then back in, it works again with Ctrl Ctrl. It's strange. I thought it was just something with my computer.
Word function keys
Yes, this does happen. There is a little program that goes into your computer when they load Transnet, which disables the function keys of Word. Ctrl S in Word is Save, Ctrl S in Transnet is to search prior jobs, etc. Ctrl N in Word brings up a new document. Ctrl N in Transnet ends and spell checks the job. THis should go away when you UNINSTALL Transnet the proper way.
Oh how could I forget those friggin' "F" keys?!

I actually got pretty adept at manipulating those commands, but what a total pain.  My wrists really took a beating during that stint too because of reaching for those stupid F keys.  Blech blech blech!

Using Ctrl-I, you can get the count
for previous days by changing your PC calendar date to whichever day you want the counts for. To do this, at the lower right corner of your PC (called the system tray), right click on the time displayed. Click Adjust Date/Time and change it to the date you wish to see counts for. Go back to EXText and run your counts using Ctrl-I. Remember to change your date back to the current date.
If you are using Express Scribe, you can use your function keys and...
the instructions are in the Help section or maybe it is in Setup.  Good luck on the test!
the company sets the keys - ask your job. It is not the phone.
I have worked on several accounts via C-phone and each acocunt had it set their own way - similar - but not exact. Companies can calibrate each gal differently as well such as not being able to skip jobs, among other things.

ask you supervisor.
Does Axolotl use hot keys or a foot pedal? sm

If they use hot keys, are they hard to learn if you've only ever used a foot pedal before?

Thanks for the info!

On some O accounts you do have Ctrl I option
?
I work for TT and just tried to uset the Ctrl I sm
but got the message that I didn't have the right to view session statistics.  It is a shame, because it would be nice to be able to check things like that while you're working.
Do ctrl S then search by your ID # and the date.
Then you can compare job #s but only if you're writing down the document ID and not the voice job ID.
When company does not allow CTRL i function to be used by its MT's.
EXText is the platform you transcribe in, but EXSpeech is the VR portion of Dictatphone EXText.
I use keyboard only....move along with the voice with my arrow keys, then...
my mouse is right where the voice is when I have to make a correction. Couldn't do it any other way.
Ctrl I line count Ex-Text
No, people working on that system used to be able to see Ctrl I.  I guess multiple people across the board who now are getting their line counts at ICHART site complained when they did a Ctrl I and the line count was VERY different from the ICHART site count they were told to use.  Yes there can be a big discrepancy.  I wonder why no one can look at Ctrl I any more?  I wonder why they thought blocking it out would stop people from questioning things.  I think it only made it worse.  Any MT can and should use another source to count, whether it be Word, Sylcount or whatever, until they feel they are being counted fairly and equitably.  If they tell you you are not getting pain for Headers and Footers you should be able to figure this out by comparing their count to yours.  From 10,000 down to 8,000 is totally unacceptable and unbelievable.  Good luck to anyone with this problem.
I just just Ctrl+F and search the current page or next.

I thought it was because Ctrl+I gives you all of the ilne count, but since they do sm
not pay for headers or footers, the line count at the ichart site represented the subtraction of the lines for the headers and footers.  I could be wrong, but I thought that was how it was explained at the time.
Reread, I do not use the Ctrl B function, so cannot answer. Sorry!

If you have to use what THEY say to use, you're stuck. Ctrl + I and logging in to iChart do not
g
Ctrl+I counts headers and footers, but we don't get paid for that sm
and we don't type it in, in any case. The headers and footers usually have text that is a lighter color and these are embedded headers and footers. We get paid for the regular color text. You aren't being cheated in the least. Consider, I worked for a company where they charged the MT a 65 character line for every report, although the headers and footers compromised a whopping 30 to 40 characters. On a short report, you paid the company for the privilege of transcribing it!! Embedded headers are not things we transcribe, but ARE paid for what we DO type.

This 1.236 accounts for the headers and footers, on ICD1. Different accounts have different headers or lack thereof and so it varies.
We could check our line counts up-to-the-minute with CTRL I inhouse n/m
b
Ctrl i in EXText for us MT's with TT gives a higher line count, because we do not get paid
for everything that that function shows.  I-chart is as close to the exact amount of lines we get paid for than anything that we have.  Ctrl i was blocked from us, but lately opened up for us to use; however, it is not what we get paid for.  Hope this helps you.
TT sent out email saying CTRL i function is 7-12% higher than paid-for line counts,

so you would need to deduct 7-12% off function of CTRL I.

Per TT email regarding this subject, the headers and footers average between 7-12% of a document . . .   Conversely, if you are transcribing a two to three line report/addendum, the header and footer may be as much as 50% or greater.

So, it is true that if we transcribe short reports, we are given the pleasure of transcribing almost FREE for TT !!!

This is about as clear as we MT's can get from TT regarding this line counting issue.

I've been with places that disabled Ctrl/I as they said the line count given was "too high.

Does the MQ DQS program contain the ShortCuts program, or do I need to buy it? nm

DQS is not a "Medquist" program, it is a program used by MQ. (nm)

No DSL access or cable either
where I live. Have satellite access, but hospital will not allow us to use this. For the past 10 years been using dial-up at 28K only, which can be frustrating at times, but I try to hang in there.

My goal is 1400 lines a day (7.5 hour shift), which I accomplish most days, but I do not have any little ones at home.

Hospital installing new web-based system soon, which they say will be much better!

I work for a large corporation with multiple smaller satellite facilities -- I work for one of the smaller facilities. Do you think we work for the same corporation?

I would encourage any experienced MT to work for a national sometime during their career. The experience and wealth of knowledge gained will last a lifetime. It takes an exceptional multi-tasker to be able to transcribe multiple accounts all in a day's work. But, DSL is required by most nationals.

Have you ever worked in a home-based setting?

If not, it takes a lot of discipline to work from home. I also encourage you to keep little ones in day care unless you can arrange to work while they sleep.

I personally am a little on the hyper side, like to move at fast pace and would rather be up working around the house. Warm sunny days are my worst -- love to be outdoors! So, I work in 2- to 4-hour blocks.

Wishing you the very best!
Any info on AMZ access?
They posted on the job boards.  Anyone have any info?
Can MT's access old reports?
.
You still have access to history, sm
If you received the memo on Thursday, read the second to last paragraph. You still have access via a different route. Try it.
If you "grant" them access, they can
My experience has been once you let them connect remotely to your computer, they can do whatever they want while they're in there...which is why I don't leave my desk while they're on there- at least in theory, you can see what they're doing. I worked for a company once that did not like their people to use certain programs, so if tech support was on there for one thing, they kinda looked around. In my case, they saw AOL running down at the bottom and promptly disconnected it and uninstalled it. It actually might be harder to know if they're doing a snapshot, but at least you should know exactly what they're looking at.
Need 2 PC, both with internet access
of course that is prob. DSL monthly fees. See there ad
Control I tells me I have no right to access (sm)
Isn't it that way for all?  I'm new at this.
This is a dumb question but how do I access..sm
For the Record? I have never head of it and when I Googled it nothing came up. I want to check the ads there. Thanks.
Internet access while traveling
Just to add to the information regarding wireless Internet capabilities at several different hotels, it might benefit you to also check out places such as Panera Bread stores.  They are located throughout the country and many of their stores also offer WI-FI free of charge.  Also, you may want to consider going online and checking out WI-FI Hotspots.  Amazing what kinds of places have wireless these days!  (If you're an RV'er, you've really got it made!)  Good luck!
How easy is it to access old reports and
how far back do they go.
I don't get it. QA does not have access to our line counts
you couldn't make line count? From what I was told, only management and support had access to that.
Any other Keystrokers not able to access the intranet again?
It has been having a lot of problems this past week with going down. Has been down all day today.
They aren't that big on quality. We have access to
the past 50 files on a doc so if you have questions or need samples you can pull them up.   I'm surprised at the gross errors I see and I'm not even looking for them.   I don't know what percentage of the work they QA, but they need to be doing more than they do.
Enterprise Access Problem?
Anyone else using AT&T having trouble logging in to Enterprise to work?
need IC status and can't get high-speed access..sm
I need to find a company that will hire IC and using dial-up (can't get cable or DSL in my area).  I have over 20 years experience. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
The new version you can access line count.
Maybe you do not have good tech support or no one has shown you.
Same for TransTech - have access to previous reports
nm
Just to advise, that company does not have access to MTStars
