You can buy XP from Dell. I started with a different company about 2 months ago and sm

had to buy a new Dell as Vista did not work for them either. Most of the companies do not take Vista. It just doesn't work with everything yet.

Oh my gosh yes! I started at a company about 6 months ago,

starting out right out of the gate producing around 2200-2500 lines in 6 hours, best I have EVER done since leaving my local clinic and going with a huge company.  However, it seems that once the honeymoon was over, things started to change and now, on the same dictators, I barely get 1600 lines in a day.  It is a Word-based program and in the beginning I had no problems with the programs opening or typing in them and now they seem to freeze all of the time which, of course, slows my production tremendously.  I cannot figure out if it is my computer or something that they have in the program to keep you from doing over a certain amount in a day, which I am not sure why they would.

I started 6 months ago and am very happy. sm
I started with one account that was busy and still have a lot of work. I have a back-up account but have never worked it as my primary is very busy. If you like radiology, this is the place to go from everything I hear. I transcribe the Big 4 and really enjoy my account.

My pay is good and on time thanks to direct deposit. I had to wait a few weeks for IDs but it was worth the wait!
I started with MedScribe about 6 months ago
I have an acute care account that I work on and also do a little ER for a secondary account.  I do work one weekend day but they have kept me in work and pay is every other Friday, direct deposit.  That is a big plus from where I came from.  Good luck to you.  Karen.
I am not on Meditech and I started at 0.09 ten months ago. sm
Not all of their accounts are Meditech but some are. I actually want a Meditech account as I am used to it and can move fast.
Started at MedScribe 3 months
I was attracted to the sign-on bonus, which is nice because they pay it $100 a pay period so I did not have to wait for 6 months or a year.  I like my super and have plenty of work, I use InstaText and that converted just fine.  I did not need the insurance but it is a nice package, they pay every two weeks by direct deposit.  I have not heard of the other company you mentioned but I did come from a VERY large company and it is nice working for a smaller one, first name basis is a change.  Good luck to you.
Started 2 months ago at MedScribe
Acute care starts at 8 and they have 2 incentive levels which adds another 3/4. That is for employee status with healthcare. Benefits are affordable (Aetna) and they pay by DD every 2 weeks. I have always had work and my team leader is very nice, she came from MW. The platform is Word based and I have all of my expander. After I applied I started in about 5 days. They have been very nice and I can honestly say, so far so good. Glad I left my rather large company to work for a smaller one, it's nice to be called by my first name for a change. Leanne.
I have been on there since it started 4 months ago and this is the first time.
They are freaking out because the doctors can still dictate!!!
But that only started 2 months ago and besides that, remember
you said I was management. I loved VR from the very start, before the other money. I can work part time only and make over 20$ per hour. No sweat. That sure is not what others are saying about minimum wage. What the heck are they talking about. Lack of experience I guess.
I just started working about 3 months ago
that requires 1 weekend day every week. I didn't think it would be so bad, but I don't like it at all. I realize that the medical field is a 24/7 profession, but I would rather rotate weekends like we did when I worked as a nurse. Better yet, if companies offered a weekend differential, they could probably find enough part-timers who want to work just weekends; wouldn't that be nice. Oh well, so much for dreaming.
I started at amphion a couple of months ago
and I love it! I stay on the same account and never run out of work. They are BEGGING for overtime, which they do pay extra for. The people are so nice and helpful. I would definitely recommend trying them out. Good luck.
I started 6 months ago and enjoy my account
I am on an acute care hospital and they have me backed up to ER.  They just mentioned starting a new hospital, I guess a big one, in about a month so I know they will be hiring.  So far so good.  Pay is every other Friday by direct deposit so it is on time.
I started at 8 cpl, was increased to 9 cpl in 3 months and 9.5 in a year. nm

SS has a lot of new accounts that have just started and more starting over the next few months. sm
As far as I know, SS is totally US based (going by what I was told). They are offering OT right now for us MTs. I am enjoying it certainly and I have been here for a couple of years.
There are a lot of people who do and it seems that most love working there. I started 6 months ago
and have no complaints at all. It is refreshing to work for a company that treats employees as individuals, not just a number. I also like that they do not send work offshore and that I only have one main account. I do have 2 back-up accounts, but have never worked on them after training. I am lucky that my main account is very busy, too busy most of the time!
Took a long time for me. They called after I had accepted and started another job, so about 2 months
?
My company has been low on work for months and months..sm
Tired of getting the same ol' message that things will pick up.  I remember the days of bonuses, making money and being able to pay my bills!  I am also wondering what is going with these companies not having work.  Is everybody sending work overseas?
They do not offshore. The owner's original company was bought by MQ; started a new company, whic
That's about all I know. I would give them a try. They sounded good!
I don't know, wish I did. Started with a company
a week or 2 ago. Horrible platform, horrible dictators, and the nastiest office staff in the world. No wonder they need help so bad.
After 7 months with a new company...sm Former

I made $3,000 more in 7 months than I did annually with Transcend after working with them for almost 4 years.   I can't say that I'm surprised that Transcend has now gone the way of offshoring because they are the kind of company that will stoop lower than low, but I will say I'm a little surprised that everyone was so up in arms on their company board when finding out about it.  People were warned about this company over and over and over and over.  The ones who tried to warn others about it were called liars, inferior MTs, troublemakers, the list goes on.  Yet, here it is 7 months after the last exodus, which was only 6 months after the previous exodus, and the proverbial stuff is STILL hitting the fan with this company.  It was once said that time would tell if the troublemakers were telling the truth or not.  Aren't you guys at Transcend tired of being shocked yet? I'm curious to see how many left this time.

RE: After 7 months with a new company...sm Former
If you do not work there anymore (7 months), why would you even care what happens to Transcend? Continue to move on and care about the company you are working for presently (which I think probably will not be for long, either). Transcend is not your concern, so why inquire?
HI Dell. You have more MTs than I do

and I can see how that can get to be a problem.  I have experienced that before, where an MT will just figure I'll know what it is right away, so why waste HER time looking it up (one actually said that to me - ACK!)

But so far what has worked for me is being downright snobbish about who I have working for me.  Fortunately I worked with several really excellent MTs before I became an MTSO, so once I started getting accounts I hand picked the best of the best.  I pay them well, but I expect them to be so good that really I don't even need to proof their work; I trust them that much.  They will occasionally have a question or ask me to listen to something, but that's pretty rare.

Now when I get to the point that I need more MTs, and I may need to coming up in a month or so as I may be adding a big account, then I am going to run out out of good MTs that I know...so I will be in the same boat.

I think most of the national companies require 98% on quality checks.

One thing you might do is offer an incentive - review their work for a period of time and pay one amount for MTs whose work you don't really have to check, and then a graduated scale from there.  Those whose work has to be gone over with a fine toothed comb shouldn't make as much, as you are spending your valuable time proofing their reports.  Those who are worth their salt will step up to the plate.

Dell
I heard back but pay is low.
You can get XP through Dell
if you go through Dell Small Business. I just bought a new computer from them and it came with a choice of either XP or Vista, and it didn't cost me any extra to get XP. They only do this through their business division though, not home/home office.
Well..I just started doing Radiology for a company and they pay by (sm)
the report. I haven't done a lot of reports yet but today I typed maybe 20 just to get familiar with the platform and they were almost all normal reports with very few lines. So for now I'm glad I'll be paid by the report!
I left a company when they started doing this.
I was getting all of the crap work and it took about an hour just to get 100 lines. To make things worse, this company didn't even pay for spaces. Needless to say, I left and went to another company. Pooling is never a good thing.
I started my own transcription company
I wanted to change the way this business is going and figured the only way to do it was to start my own company. Best decision I ever made! I wonder why I didn't do it sooner.
Let me guess, company started with a K?

I provided several months for a company
as they appeared legit - offered me position and then never contacted me again.  Will never do again. With today's identify theft being #1 crime in the nation - way too risky.  I was told it was needed as they were going to do background.  I should have done more background on them!!
I was hired by a company 2 months ago.
They downloaded everything they needed on my computer, sent me pedals and now just waiting for training. My question is this - How long does this normally take. I have never had to wait this long to get started (not even with Keystrokes). I have sent several emails and have called the office several times and am told the same thing ---- still waiting on the hospital, we are extremely busy, etc.

I'm seriously considering sending their pedals back to them and chalking it up but I would like to know your thoughts on how you would (have) handle this. TIA

I applied with one company several months
ago and was told that they do not have permit to have employees in my state. Maybe that is the reason.
Started small; great company. Rapid growth; not so great company
First year I was there was like heaven. Then the big growth spurt when they hired managers from another company (that I had run away from before because of their bad management) and let them kind of take over. Although I have no proof it was as though I got 'bumped' by these new people when they came in and I lost a good account, good manager, etc. My paycheck went down every month lower and lower, and it became harder and harder to make my minimal lines. Having any kind of advocate was nonexistent.

It depends on you and what kind of MT you are. Seems to me there are pretty much 2 types...

Sports like basketball where you have the pros who play with finesse, and then you have street players who think it is all about physical strength, period. More and more the physical strength is winning but the art of the game gets lost more and more...

As in this country where there are almost 2 sides now, those with intellect and thoughtfulness, and those who think the only way to be strong and be a leader is to beat up everyone who does not agree with you...and force your will on others.

Suffice it to say in my opinion WMX changed its philosophy of the way it treated employees and lost its heart when it grew, and it was literally almost overnight...

If you are a mass producer who has no care of what it takes to make money, if you are a 'street fighter' then it would probably be for you because you WILL have to fight for everything. Fight for the right account, fight for lines, fight to be treated fairly, etc. If you appreciate MTing for the art of MTing or have any kind of joy for the profession, my guess is you will not make it there very long...

This is happening all throughout the what used to be called profession. Seems to happening all through everything these days. Humanity and heart are being pushed down to the bottom...
Actually, if you go to the Dell website sm

and click on either desktop or laptop, on the far right side of the screen is an icon asking if you are looking for XP.  If you click on that, it takes you to a screen offering XP on the same machines that show Vista, and the price looks comparable.  I have not gone any further, as I am not looking yet, but it does look as though XP is offered at a reasonable price through Dell.  If anyone else knows any more, please let me know.  TIA.

thanks, i just ordered one from Dell also...
Inspiron that could be customized with XP.
sorry, I got cut off. She started a new company which is now Golden Isles. nm

Established company, started six years ago. They have
not grown at all through acquisition but rather just plain old fashsioned good business.
First of all, the CEO of Focus is the same Indian guy who started the company... sm

He may have sold out to Nuance in March of 2007, but he still runs the show!  Second of all they are absolutely NOT bringing any accounts whatsoever back to the U.S.  That's just plain fabrication, deceit, lies, BS -- whatever you prefer to call it.  It just ain't true!  They just recently laid off the majority of the American QA staff and have forced the skeleton American crew they have left to go to production.

The lie that they are bringing work back to the U.S. was started and perpetuated in January of this year as a negotiating tactic to get the Indians to continue to work for peanuts instead of giving them more money.  When the Indians called their bluff, they hired a bunch of American QA people only to fire them at the end of April, beginning of May when the Indians caved.

And finally, they are an Indian run company and their QA and MT staff is 80% Indian.  I have the actual figures given to me by the Director of US Operations at Focus.  Focus employs 3800 Indians!  Does that sound like a U.S. company to you?

Oh, and the Director of Recruitment posted that 90% of their operation is in the U.S.!!!!!  He flat out lies.  He also says everyone laid off got a nice severance package.  Total BS!  Half of those laid off had to call the company and scream bloody murder when their checks were deposited as promised.  The other half will be calling tomorrow!

No, Acusis is the company that started in India, and

Why would you keep working for a company for 3 months without being paid? sm

I'm sorry this happened to you, but when the first month's check didn't arrive, that would have been it.  I still enjoy transcribing (most days) but not enough to do it for free.

Good luck to you in getting your money   That's an awful thing to happen to anyone.

My company ups the line rate for several months SM
while we learn. Then on our own. This all really relates to how good a system your company has and how smooth the progression is with your account, which also relates to how good a supervisor you have. Mine is very good.

I'm trying to understand, is everyone upset over VR or drop in pay due to VR? I assume it's the later.

I would really say to at least give it a try. I'm not management.

I'm not even sure how much longer MT will be in existence. If you want to ride this thing out, get used to VR.
Question regarding Dell who posted (sm)
some time ago.  I cannot seem to find those posts when I search.  Would someone mind reposting that so I can email him?  I am looking for work.  TIA
Did you check with Dell for a new ' puter?
nm
Just bought one from Dell, asked to have XP on it and
they said they still have a few with XP on it. If you can't find one you will just have to buy XP and have Vista removed from the new computer and then install XP.
Speaking of Dell, isn't it ironic that s/m

the first time you call to place an order, you speak with a pleasant, articulate American, but any call after that goes straight to India?

The last time I called Dell, there was such a communication breakdown that I demanded to speak with an American.

500 emails in two months?!?! Not my idea of an organized company. No thanks. LOL
x
The company I work for went to VR a few months back. I was as terrified as you are. sm
It has been OK. I like doing the VR work, and my check is really no different than it was before the change. I do a lot more in terms of production in the same amount of time.

The downside is that the increased production, even though in the same timeframe, is taking its toll on me. It is stressful.

If you get an easy report that has very few edits, you will fly through it. If you get one that is full of errors, it will take you longer than typing it from scratch.

It's a catch-22 in that we really don't have a choice but the good news is that my pay has not suffered and my hands are not as tired.
Hey you guys, go ahead and email Dell
because he's probably more in a position than I am to acquire more MTs in the near future.  Mine all depends on an account that I'm not entirely sure of yet.  But if you would like to email me anyway I will keep your information in case I do.  The account I may have is an ortho clinic acct and what I would like to do if I get the account is have maybe 3 MTs share 2 or 3 doctors; that way they can all be familiar with all the doctors but also if anyone didn't want to work any given day the other 2 could take up the slack and cover for the MT who is off.  And I don't even know at all that I will get the account or if I do when it will be - but I will keep your info just in case!
You can buy XP from Dell Small Business section.

Several months ago a company called Charts in Time (CIT) hired some MTs off here. Just wondering how
it turned out for those MTs as I turned it down and wondered if I should have taken the job. Thanks.
You must be psychic. I just ended up going on Ebay today and bought a Dell with Windows XP on it.
I originally went through Dell directly but they charged $400 more for the same computer because they were customizing it with Windows XP as now all the computer came standard with Vista. Apparently not so customized..haha.. better deals on Ebay.. I LOVE EBAY..
