You're welcome. As I said, this was 5 years ago or so. Things could have changed. sm

In Reply to: Wow! Thank you for writing this. This is very important - information. The OP
I would just be careful. They used to have a woman in the office named Crystal. I would call and tell her I had run out of work, and she would just laugh and tell me to take the day off! How nice ... except that I needed the money. In all fairness, though, I am sure they could not have stayed in business and kept employees if they kept on that way. I read awhile back that if you pay $20 each check or something like that that they will Fed Ex your check to you, so maybe they are trying, although I don't think you should have to pay for it.
Good luck in finding something. I know what it is like to be the sole source of income.

I see things have NOT changed there!
SOS - same old stuff, different company.
Maybe things have changed
for the better since the buyout last year. But, what you describe is not what they sent me in their information packet.
things have changed...
They did have Future Net when I was there, which is the best platform the have, but they had other accounts there were still on the old DOS Word Perfect, which seemed weird to me. Anyway, the ASR must be new. There was slso a lot of game playing going on when I was there, which is an understatement, and I will just leave it at that!
things have changed...
I had been with Focus since May and there were the American employees, as far as MTs and staff, but most of the team leaders were Indian and I am sure they had the Indian MTs as well. In May 2008 all the American MTs received letters that they were bought by Nuance and that all ICs would have to become employees. Just recently, all of the Indian team leads have been let go, so I am not sure what this means, but it does not appear that they are Indian owned anymore. The funny thing is prior to this a whole American QA team had been let go, so very confusing. The Indian team leads are being replaced with American tead leads now. I had no problem with having Indian team leads, as they were great to work with and respected our work. I did not have a bad experience at Focus during my time there, but the changes going on now are confusing and I am curious how things will turn out. They were my first company, so I wish them the very best.
I hope things have changed -sm
I worked for Edix too, and although I know some people weren't treated well there, I felt I really was. I had a really great supervisor. I just wasn't able to make money with that system. It was too slow, so I left after only 3 months.
Well, things have obviously changed in the last couple...sm
of years since you have been gone. Didn't seem to me that the right hand knew what the left hand was doing and just horribly disorganized. Sad testimonial of what is going on in the MT field as well as all over the US in all fields!
Things have changed since my last post right above yours here.
I let them know I was not making money and they started training all over again on a different account. I did not want to start all over again so I went full-time with probably the best company on this board and won't look back. Forget about struggling, and just putting up with something as I mentioned above this post (right above yours here), accept nothing but the best... and don't settle no matter what you do. No job is perfect, but there are managers who don't cheat as well. Go for the ones who don't cheat. Good luck to you.
I work there and things apparently have changed since you were there.
Not all the people you named are still there nor is the dental plan Delta. It is Guardian. Insurance is excellent.
Now, they hire employees and not ICs. They do that for a reason. They can better schedule and meet TATs that way. I think employee status warrants meeting your hours, but what I do know is that they do allow some flexibility and if you need it, all you need to do is say it as long as it is not 12-hr flexibility. If you have to run out and get the kids, tell them.
This company is a good company. The people are quite nice. Their QA staff is good. They do follow the BOS to a tee.
It's a personal choice, but if someone did not at least check them out, I think they are missing out. They are very good. Best QA staff I have ever worked with.
Maybe things changed since I quit there because I refused to buy
the equipment. It is not just a router, it has to be a Cisco router, Cisco modem, etc. And don't fall on the floor when you see the length of the gross lines, lol.
I am so sorry to hear that!! Hope things have changed
for your sake:( Terrible co. IMO
Very happy when I first started but things have changed -
I believe they have overhired and all the accounts are running out of work. There is a lot of demographic stuff to do too so that slows you down a lot. Pay per line isn't great but they do pay PTO in a fair way and I like the platform they use. All in all I'm still happy if they weren't running out of work -I will just have to wait and see how that goes.
so your point may be that things haven't changed.
nm
Did any of you try emailing or calling D herself? Perhaps things have changed sm
since I worked there, but it used to be you could talk to her and she would listen and make things right if she could. Maybe she is not as much involved in those things anymore and it is mostly C handling things. It just seemed worth a shot. It is sad to see so many people unhappy and scared for their livelihoods.
Good luck.
That's a shame. It sounds like things have really changed. sm
I was there for 5 years and always thought that D really cared about providing enough work for everyone. Maybe all of the industry changes have caught up there too. I hope things turn around for you and everyone else. Although I do not have a family, I am my only source of income, and I know how scary the no-work situation can be.
Good luck!
My how things have changed. I am now drowning in work from
the new clients, I guess, and they are bringing on two more this week. Hip, hip, hooray! Might even get a bonus!!!
Unless things have changed drastically, they are NOT nice to work for.
You will get calls at all hours to work, mostly because no one has enough sense to realize that there is a big time difference between the east coast where they are and the west coast where I am. I routinely got calls from Rose between 4 and 5 a.m. to see why I was not working when my schedule was for 7 a.m. pacific time. The accounts were awful. And the recruiter is just that - do not believe all the praise and glory she heaps out. She may be sweet but don't fall for her line of bs.
Search the boards. Things have changed for the worse, IMO. nm

Everything I read suggests that unfortunately things haven't changed...
at that time the Suits were making promises ... like a 2-hour TAT on all WTs ... and they were willing to allocate as much manpower as possible to win the contract ... it was nuts.
Evidently things haven't changed since I left. Sounds like they've gotten worse - LOL
nm
Yes. I think they just changed it to 3 years. nm

I too have loved MDI for years now but something has definitely changed..sm
I have always had plenty of work and suddenly little to none. Very frustrating especially when emails trying to get answers or resolve the problem result in nothing. Up until now I have had no complaints but I can't live on what I am able to barely make now.
NetMed must have changed a lot in 5 years. sm
I worked for them for 3-4 months. We were not a good fit for each other. I was having a hard time meeting QA. That said, I thought they were good to work for. They bent over backwards to help me get with the program. I never had any trouble with getting help for any problems and the tech people were great at getting back to you with answers. My mentor gal was great too.
But that was just my experience.
Radiology has advanced so much in the last few years even that it has changed a LOT.
s
She has been told this for years now. Hasn't changed.
You would be shocked at how many MTs have left them. Amazingly they keep finding others to hire. Sad, sad, sad.
I have been there 5 years. What changed? They stopped catering to sm
employees who walked all over them and started recognizing those of us that do a good job. They took away ICs and made people accountable for their commitments. They added benefits, added direct deposit, got a bigger office, added more staff in the office, and continued to grow.
I honestly believe that it was a very few people who were saying the negative comments but they were loud and had time on their hands.
They then moved to another company and decided to bash them, then another company and bash them, and so on. There are some people that never are happy and those that are let go tend to be the nasty ones on the boards.
The only problem I ever had was one check 4 years ago but direct deposit solved all that.
I think the owner let go a little where needed and stopped taking it all so personally. She is a tough one now but still nice, if that makes sense, just doesn't take cr*p from everyone.
maybe they're doing other things and need a day or 2 to respond.
nm
Been a few years since I worked there so things
may be different now. But, I had to rerecord, account was 85% Indian, can't remember pay, but it certainly wasn't enough to compensate for having the combination above. The office was also calling me up to 6 times a day, not necessarily for anything work related either. They seemed to be so disorganized that they had to call several times a day to ask questions instead of just asking everything at once. I didn't think their system was that user friendly either. I only lasted a couple of months.
Thanks but all it brought up was things from 4-5 years ago.
How do I find some current things? It'd be nice to think that over time, something, anything has changed to a positive way, but I'd be lying if what was going on even that long ago doesn't give me pause for thought. I want to think that a few years ago people weren't getting paid on time but I could be wrong on which company I am remembering.
Various things have happened over the years
But I was an employee then, not an independent. You could go ahead and go, probably would not have a job when you returned or you could work and accept the terms. I planned ahead of time 1 year to take some time off to attend Thanksgiving dinner/stay out of town, boss said ok and when it came down to time she had forgotten, I would not have been paid and she said oh I guess you want your cake and eat it too. A couple of days later I came into her office, told her I had been to bingo, won the $300 prize that night, taking off and yes, I guess I could have my cake and eat it too. That was a big lie but she did not know. My father said to get things down in writing from then on. Being as you need the job, that is what you had to do but others fall into this same spot I am sure.
They're always slipping these things in casually at the end of the day. Stupid suits.

Not true. I worked at Transcend for years and things have
For years people at Transcend were very friendly and the only time things got really heated on the forum were over personal opinion posts like politics and stuff. Not any more. More and more people are to the point of not knowing what to do with this company anymore. People who have been there years and years have quit or are quitting, and I think most of the peers that are happy are relatively new and haven't seen the downward spiral. A friend of mine quit a while ago and said she got a letter about a month after she quit asking her to sign a release saying she wouldn't take Transcend to court or be party to any claims relating to her employment with Transcend. If things were that hunky dory they wouldn't be so scared that they need to ask people to sign waivers when they leave.
I cannot say enough good things about Keystroke, not just one month but years
I remember when they were having growing pains and I was with another company and saw them on this board. Lee even got on to defend her company. At least she cared and nothing but good things have happened to this company. She still cares. Recently complaints were of running out of work and needing secondaries, and high insurance. She contacted all MTs and has been working on and from what I understand is correcting all that. She is a hands on owner and appears to deeply care for the Transcriptionist even though she cannot see our faces.
All of my posting is from hands on experiences and if for 2 years I can say this is where I want to retire after all the other companies I have had to go through, I am only trying to help and not post pie in the sky hoopla to rope anyone in. This is a down to earth, straight shooting company that I am sure is in it for profit but deeply cares for the transcriptionists who work for her and not make that profit while we eat 69 cent pot pies because our pay checks are so crummy. it takes time even for a good transcriptionists to get familiar with a new account but if the dictation is fairly distributed (I mean first in, first out, unless other arrangements are made between you and the company) then there is hope and a chance to make a living. I don't think it is fair to complete with your team leaders for dictation because they will always win and you will be left with what they do not want as they have dictation goals too with some nationals along with supposedly helping you. That is my 2 cents.
If you made a graph of all the things taken away by Edix/Speris in the last 5 years.....
You would be shocked, although it has been 6 years since it started.....
first charging for errors, about 6 years ago (they stopped that), then insurance changed for the worst, regrading hospitals to their advantage so you would make at least 200. to 300 less a pay period, the list is long, long, long. I can go back 6 years up to 2 years ago when I finally left.
The owners haven't changed, MT supe hasn't changed
I've been in their office. I know the people. It is a sweat shop and you will never be paid a decent amount or get respect. You won't know which is a good or a bad day for the person you report to until you literally get yelled at.
They have to offer bonuses because their reputation is that bad and nothing has changed. You may get work that has been recorded 3 times from some of the worst accounts you could ever imagine. They take accounts no one else will touch. That hasn't changed.
They changed buildings so maybe the phone number also changed...
They are still going strong...
I've been there for years, work on the DSG1 side of things, pay on time, direct deposit, more
feedback lately. I have always found the staff and MTs helpful and friendly. Work does fluctuate, but if you have a few accounts, should keep you busy, also sound quality can be an issue but mostly okay.
2 years, and we're just now hearing about it?
when my job was outsourced after 17 years of loyalty and crap pay hourly.
I make way more now! Way, way more!
Union - thanks but no thanks.
Why don't you start your own board with this line of bull and see if it flies. Give us the website where for 2 years this has all been in the works? If it's so great, it should be public information right? So we can sign right up? No dues?
at 12 years you're worth 13-14
Doubt it.... It all depends on what aspect of this business you are in. If you work for a company, you are worth what rate they are willing to pay with or without many years of experience. The experience helps in that you can get through reports quicker.
However, is then someone with 5 years of experience only worth 7 cpl? Who knows he answer to that question?
If you have an MTSO, you set your own rate dependent upon what is expected from you by the client. When you are an employee, you are paid what they consider the going rate which is usually very low. You then must produce as much as possible. I'm glad the MTSOs have QA because if I had to spend more than a few minutes on research, I'd leave a blank.
In the old days, the doctor reviewed the reports and filled in the blanks. What happened to that?
You're got 30 years experience.
If you've applied, they're not going to give you 5 or 6 cpl. I'm talking newbies...the ones that everyone says prefer internet research. If companies are offering you 8 cpl with 30 years under your belt, they're certainly not giving the newbies that amount. Who can afford the reference materials when they're just starting out, still green and still slow, on 6 cpl??

You're going to be applying at the supermarket in 5 years
Such a stupid stubborn attitude. How often do you use your shorthand skills, dear? This skill is going in the same direction and you're too stubborn and ignorant to do anything about it but blame other people while the industry moves on leaving you in the dust.
I think they're new. Haven't heard of them in all my years of doing MT. nm
s
just today - you're a little behind - that was for the past 3 years-
and ID thiefs are also overseas - did ya see Dateline this week? Another point you are missing - we can prosecute those here - try finding somebody in Pakistan right now.
The pay is stratified, based on years of experience and if you're a CMT. sm
You will be required to work one weekend day every week. There is a mix of ESL and non-ESL. Currently we have been running out of work, but it always picks up in the winter. I do not know what "SE's" are so I can't answer that question.
Not one account lost in over 3 years. You're wrong. sm
They just chose not to bid on one that went to voice recognition but have had 100% renewal on contracts.
Do they really think we're desperate, apparently so. I have 13 years experience, they ask for tha
and they come back to you with an offer to start of 6 cpl and you can get incentives where you COULD reach as high as 8 cpl. I just want to laugh. I mean, they are kidding, right?? We are still in America where the cost of living has become sky high, housing, food, and especially gas has gone up, yet we are getting less. I dont get it.
You're very blessed. Worked for them years ago doing NYC ESLs.
s
They seem to have changed since I did..
I worked for them 6 years ago. I was an employee, I see now on their website they only hire ICs. I was very happy with them, basically could work when I wanted as long as the reports were back when due. However, they somehow decided that their pay scale was unfair to new hires, so those of us who had been there, got knocked down to the new hire scale and everyone basically had to start from scratch to level the playing field. I quit shortly after, was not going to take a pay cut. I believe at this same time they also started sending some stuff offshore, not something I was ready to deal with. If they still have the same owners (I think the guys name was Ed), I found him to be very rude and only interested in himself and his $$. I believe about 6 of us all quit at the same time because they downright rude. I am now with a big national and making about double what I did with Accutype because of better systems and support.
So nothing has changed...
Thanks for the headsup guys. I passed the test with them and received an email, but I guess nothing has changed from past posts.
Thanks again
I see nothing has changed in the last
year since I left MDI. This is exactly how they operate on every level. A lot of people don't mind but I stayed for way to long and have a much better position now without all the drama from MDI! Good luck to you.
Pay Changed
I also agree that you should not take the job, but if they did offer to come up to the original offer I would still not take it. In my mind, this is a either a very unorganized company or a manipulative company and either way it is unlikely things would change once actually working for them.
