You're assuming this is a sweetheart dictator ... sm

With a good dictator that knows what he/she wants to say and says it, without all the ...uh....ah....mmmm.....ah.....ugh, ad nauseum... rudely shuffles papers while you're waiting for the next sound ... without the courtesy of shutting the machine off while they steal even more of your time....yes, without all this inconsiderate behavior on the part of dictators...the above equation would probably be correct.

Since we're all ICs, I'm assuming not.
Maybe someone who has been there longer can correct this perception if I'm wrong.
They're assuming...
That you're not fast enough to get the top tier of the bonus plan without their lovely ISR that will make you such a better producer. If you can already reach the top tier of the bonus plan with straight transcription, you have nothing to gain and everything to lose.
You're incorrect in assuming that....sm
the reports that aren't edited are the "garbage" dictations. I currently edit on an account that has switched to editing and we have dictators that are new to the hospital that aren't on editing yet - and they talk just fine.... and we have 1 dictator who dictates very well but isn't on editing but has been at the hospital for a long time because this dictator has a PA that oftentimes dictates on their ID# and the voice profiles get confused about who is talking when this happens.
I also know people that edit at other companies that say that not all of the reports are on editing for these types of reasons - so to presume that if a dictation isn't being presented in a draft is because it's a lousy dictator is untrue. I've also seen some real bad dictators go through the drafts with excellent draft quality - and fot those types of reports you NEVER hear a Transcriptionist complain "but I didn't have to listen to Dr. XYZ yap at 75 miles per hour - the system did it for me and I got paid anyway!"
We're ASSUMING this leak came from a QT MT sm
however, it could be from that poster who doesn't work at QT--an outside agitator.
Their ad was on another free board in May. I'm assuming they're in MIchigan. Said they had a 6

No sweetheart...
Your the nasty one who probably started this whole entire thread.
Yes, sweetheart, I did see that.
I meant in general, if you can't work the shift asked, if you're going to moan and complain about certain hours or days, if your family truly is your priority, find another profession. Leave the work to those of us who want to work and know what a real job consists of, make very good money, know what OUR priorities are and do a great job. And no, I'm not some bitter MT, MTSO, or unhappy woman. I have a great job, get to work from home, have a wonderful DH with a great job, live a comfortable life, have free time to travel, etc. If you don't want to work weekends, FIND ANOTHER PROFESSION...hospital work is 24/7, 365 days a year. It's the whiners, complainers and demanders that have sent our jobs overseas.
Becky is a sweetheart!
Hope she is doing alright. She is one of the good eggs there.
Nothing has been "spilled" sweetheart
The name has not been released, so nothing has spilled.
Something IS going on and WE do have a right to KNOW. WE are the ones working our tails off to bring the numbers down on the board. Believe me, I do like working for this company and really had NO quandries until this, but because of this delay, I don't even have the money for easter! So, I think we are all owed an explanation.
I replied to you once, sweetheart. You've got a
really bad attitude. My response wasn't a big huge long drawn out one-sided conversation either. It was plain and simple. If you can't find the email that they send to everyone, CALL THEM or email them. Who is supposed to help you here? Not that I CARE anyway. Just trying to help the helpless become more proactive in finding their own answers. How much time did you waste on the board being snotty and calling everyone else snotty when a simple little five minute phone call would have fixed all of your complaints? Try to help someone and get your nose bit off.
I had a dictator like that once. (sm)
At first, I found it to be very irritating, but then I started to feel sorry for the guy.
Then, a couple months ago, I had a ministroke and now have intermittent difficulty with, not so much stuttering, but stammering/stuttering sometimes when I speak, as if the connection has broken somewhere between my brain and my mouth.
It happened to me recently when I was on the phone with someone from my doctor's office, and I started crying because I was so embarrassed and frustrated.
In something as important as dictating a patient's medical record, I think someone should gently bring this to the doc's attention, though maybe it embarrasses him as much as it embarrasses me.
On the other hand, with some USA companies outsourcing American work to foreign countries, obviously somewhere along the line, somebody stopped caring about accuracy (and confidentiality and HIPAA laws, etc.), IMHO.
ESL - SPANISH DICTATOR
AND UNFORTUNATELY NOT AN 800 NUMBER FOR DIAL IN TO GET THE DICTATIONS. Hospital will not invest the money to make the wave files available either. I just read this posting. I didn't see the others that were posting bad things about me until tonight. Some people just don't accept that you need excellent skills to make top money. Nothing comes easy. Thus my offer to pay more just to get this guy done. Thank you for all of your help. Karen
Not necessarily-if you get a bad dictator -- sm
your production is hurt whether you are experienced or not. Fast production not only depends on the MT's ability but the quality of the dictator and how fast or slow they speak or how clear the speak.
A person with more experience will leave far less blanks but will still be limited on how fast she/he is. Thus they deserve to be paid more than 7 cpl.
SR is not the problem, the dictator is
The problem is not with the product (SR) but with the person using it. You can't just install the program, start dictating, and see perfection appear on the screen. There's a lot involved with the training process, which never ends. It's really no different than building up an expansion program. The more time and effort you put into make entries, the better your line count will ultimately be.
I also work with SR every day, but I use the product instead of the keyboard. Previously, with the use of an expansion program, I had to kill myself to hit 1800 lines in a 9-hour day. Now, I can whip out at least 3000 lines in an 8-hour day (6-1/2 to 7 hours of dictating and about an hour of proofing). Any mistakes which I do have are my fault ... I did not articulate/enunciate correctly.
SR was once a product I wanted to use, 'cause I thought it would make this work more enjoyable. Now, it's a necessity. More than 30 years of MT has led to repetitive stress injuries (bilateral CTS and right cubital tunnel syndrome).
Sometimes I wish there were MTs who lived close to me, 'cause I would invite them over so they could see how well SR works, when it's been trained correctly.
But if that is the type of dictator that you will be doing, isn't it best for both of you sm
to know how you will do? If you can't do whatever kind of awful dictation they have, then they need to know. AND, most importantly, if that's the kind of dictation you would be facing every day, then YOU need to know so you can say no, thank you. I know if I tested and had Mr Dream Doc for the test and then started working for the company and had Mr Devil Dictator every day, I'd feel like they did a bait and switch.
Just my opinion. Good luck!
Yes, very serious; however, 700 lph is not the norm every day. It just depends on the dictator. Th
Sometimes the reports are 98% accurate and sometimes, depending on the dictator, they are 90% accurate. As you know in this field, it depends on the day and dictator. The daily average, after all is said and done, is about 600 lph, 700 is on the very high end and not a consistent average every day.
Will the dictator change? Could end up being a foreigner (sm)
talking over that incessant sound of running water I always hear in path reports. I wouldn't do it.
I truly think that if every doctor or dictator had to spend
was forced to listen to themselves for a period of time...say an hour or two, I would almost bet the farm that a lot of mumblemouths, yawners, eaters, and people who dictate in the bathroom while they are flushing would change their habits radically. Or sending their dictation EXACTLY the way they say it...um...uh...uh...ummmm........hmmmm.........dead air....You know the ones.
No one will ever convince me differently. LOL. IN a perfect world maybe. in the MT world??? Not!!!
Thanks for that info! No way am I muddling through a dictator like that
xx
As I said, it is going to depend on the dictator's style.
My doctors dictate a lot of lines like:
MEDICATIONS: None.
ALLERGIES: No known drug allergies.
That is why I was saying it would be good if you have a lot of short lines. It also would depend on the page format. With the page format we use, each line is approximately 65 characters, so if the doctor dictated a lot in paragraph form versus the short lines, then it would indeed be a paycut. All I was suggesting was that you really can't judge the pay rate as there are so many variables that go into it. It ould be decent pay with the right conditions. As I said, with just the one report, I would have made $3 more. Times that by the 20 reports I do a day and that is a huge difference.
I agree though about the software. Not going to take the chance of buying expensive software only to find out that the job isn't going to work out in the end a month or two down the road.
Everytime I start this dictator she has a mouthful
of gum, candy, ?? swishing around in her mouth. How rude can you get? Even if she is not sucking, chewing or whatever she is rolling that crap around in her mouth and then there is this physician who cannot pronounce her medical terms and yet she seems like she needs to snort something back every sentence. Just gross!!
YES! I will get numerous reports from the same ugly dictator
8 times in one night -- these H&P's being 6 plus hours old, and each dictated with plenty of time in between, my knowing that there were other dictators dictating in between his -- so know that they have been holding them for me after the day shift gets off. They don't delay H&P's getting out for this many hours, so it is so very obvious what is taking place. I don't like companies manipulating the system for their favorites.
I absolutely despise this practice by a company.
I agree that the dictator on the 1st test file...
is difficult to hear in places. I'm going to try and re-record it in WavePad to see if I can't boost up the audio a bit. I could hear the 2nd and 3rd files much better. I've still got to proof my files and then will send them in.
I find it varies widely by dictator
Caveat up front: I've only been on VR less than 6 months. More experienced MT editors might have a completely different VR experience.
That said, I notice the big factors in how many LPH I can do with it are (1) how long the dictating provider has been using the VR system and how many times s/he's been through readaptation, (2) whether the dictator is ESL. The software so far seems to favor native speakers over ESL's; it 'gets' the native speaker's speech pattern faster.
I am looking for quality, myself. The temptation to 'skim' is there with this kind of work, but I'm too afraid I'll make critical errors that way.
If I have a good dictator who's been readapted a few times, I can get by with little editing and average 400 lph. Most of the editing I do in that capacity is formatting, and a few good ShortHand entries can make a world of difference in speeding that up. I'd say definitely visit the Community page Training tab if you haven't already.
With a new and/or ESL dictator, though, I admit it: It's faster for me to straight-type it. So I do, because I can get between 300 and 350 lph that way. Editing might easily drop me down to that 200 lph ceiling you're struggling with. I don't know if that will always be so, or if, as I get more used to the rhythm of editing, it will become second nature and go faster. But right now, if the report's bad enough I simply transcribe it.
Again, just my experience so far.
You are assuming
that the costs the service outline in their contract are stated up front and complete. You are neglecting to mention the "hidden" costs that services often avail themselves of, not to mention overcharging is rampant in this industry (just as MQ). There are not enough controls on the transcription service industry, most particularly the megacompanies, like MQ. When they were caught overcharging, it was a wakeup call to a lot of institutions, and they were also caught underpaying some of their MTs. I believe that lawsuit is still ongoing. I used to believe the line that services were more cost effective, however, hosptial MTs were I work only make $11.00 an hour. They also pay part of the benefits. Many MTSOs offer these same benefits to their workforce and the MTs are making far more. How do you reconcile those numbers? The money is coming from somewhere. MTSOs are not in business to lose money.
Without pay I'm Assuming
In my 24 years in the work force I have yet to find an employer who would not do the exact same thing under these circumstances. Unless DeVenture gave you an advance on paid time off, which I didn't see in your comments, I wouldn't consider them any different than any other employer.
And you are assuming
that even in this day of a bad economy, the company is not ever raising their charge to the client or don't make more profit off a seasoned and dedicated employee??? Come on now. Its called greed.
Still a lot of assuming going on.
First off, I agree with you about what type of company is the best bet for good pay, steady work flow, etc. Small American-MT-only company that doesn't overhire. That's where I am now.
Secondly, the post previous to yours contains the incorrect assumption that those of us who are happy are only happy because we didn't experience the good old days. I made between 30 and 35,000 for quite a number of years working about 5-hour days. Thankfully I was able to have my babies and get them out of diapers during that time. I was with that very, very small local company for about 13 years, then we lost the account. (Ironically, the account was lost to the company that I'm so happy with now.) The next 2 years I had an awesome account at MQ, M-F 8-5. My bring-home was 1600-1800 every 2 weeks. Then they started with their downhill decline and overhired for the account, which had been perfectly staffed, and I began running out of work all the time. I floundered for a couple of years, trying new companies right and left and at times working 3 different jobs to be certain I would not run out of work. The stress was ridiculous and no, I was not happy.
Now I am working for my original local company about 4-5 hours a day (they just asked me to go to full-time, but I can't) and about 5 hours a day for the small national that has been such a great fit for me. I don't like working 50 hours a week, but I'll make over $60,000 this year. My oldest starts college in the fall, so I can't slack off now. My only scheduled time off is Friday morning (I work 2nd shift for the local company) and all day Saturday.
I am actually making less per hour than I did 10 years ago, down from about $30 to $25 and hour, but after all I have been through the past 3-4 years, I'll take what I have right now and call myself blessed. I'll be the first to say it is not easy finding a good company because it sure took me a while. But it is not impossible.
If you are unhappy, keep looking! Don't give up! If my situation changes and I lose my account or my QA starts getting nutty or I have to take a pay cut, I'll start looking all over again, too. I sure hope I can stay put for awhile, but nothing is certain in this profession.
Blessings upon us all.
*someone* is ASSuming here! sm
You do not know at all that this person *applied* for this job at all. Maybe she has her resume posted some place and it was in response to that. It does not sound at all like she has *tested* for anything yet. Some of you people are so quick to jump to conclusions and down someone's throat! Get a grip and stop being so nasty all the time!
My, my, assuming again I see
If a person likes their job and can make good money with their pay, then all are feeding back? I am saying again, when you assume you are usually wrong and here you go again. I do not like to have any dealings with the person who owns my company, always busy with ruffled feathers. If you are not happy, try something else.
I am not assuming they are right
about only that I probably did read it at some point. But I feel the same as you as far as caring about the drama. There's drama all over this board everywhere you look.
My point is that we don't need to take sides. It's not something we need to be involved with and yes people may decide they don't want to work for that company but they can also decide they don't want to work for a company because they don't pay for spaces. It's one in the same in my eyes. Not every situation suits each person.
Trust me when I say that posters will think twice when responding to company info requests. They will think long and hard before posting. So, in essence, TT got exactly what they wanted if in fact they really did sue this poster. They got us awake here on this board and to watch our P's and Q's... Have a great day!
Of course we want to support our fellow MT but not at the expense of our own jobs. We try to help one another and then the bashing begins but who is to say that someone working for one company thinks they are spectacular and someone else didn't truly have that bad experience? I've seen where people beg others to state the company name where it is so great so they can apply, too. Then all of a sudden a company is accused of overhiring. TT had a great reputation here, and now all of this has sent things spiraling on the basis of one poster's experience, just one poster has caused all of these threads to be neverending and we don't even know that poster or if anything she says is true or false now do we?
You are assuming that I am taking a side, and that's your assumption just from reading my post. There's a lot to be desired in assuming.
Companies have the right to look at posts and post here all they want as several have done. This is a public forum.
As a matter of fact, I could be gourdpainter for all you know... see what I mean? It's one of those things where we take what we read with a grain of salt.
We worked out of a pool, and when a report came up from a cruddy dictator (sm)
they would hit "1" and send it back to the pool so the next Transcriptionist would get it. It was so obvious, as soon as you went on in the morning the first few reports you got would be from the most God-awful ESLs and you can see that they were dictated the previous day, but then all of a sudden you start getting jobs that were dictated just an hour before.
Yes, if gross line count and easy dictator
to start with.
I am assuming the 0.075 is a typo?
x
What's arrogant is your assuming that other MTs in a bad
situation with this company are there because they've somehow not kept up with the times and have become dinosaurs. I'm on ASR, I'm certified out the wazoo, I to go the conventions, I am active in the industry. Guess what? No dinosaur here, and my job has changed for the worse. I've done literally everything I can do to climb in this company and make more money, and it's been impossible so far. My pay isn't climbing either. When it comes down to where the rubber meets the road, the fact is I need an income that brings in enough money to meet my bills. If I'm doing everything right here and it's not, then the problem lies with the company. The timing of when to leave is the dilemma. Things can get better at companies, but if they do, sometimes it takes years. Sometimes they never get better.
6 cents a line for surgical reports for an ESL dictator? Are you NUTS??
I'm just absolutely appalled and disgusted...
I am only assuming that is the account they are hiring for. (sm)
I know I saw a memo stating there was a large response of those of us wanting to work that account. Maybe they just filled the shifts we were willing to work and are hiring for other shifts. I really don't know. Just trying to be optimistic.
LOL You answered 2 different posters, assuming
I posted the more balanced view post and someone else followed up after your response.
We have as much right to state our opinion, too, you know.
It's as viable of an opinion as anyone else's here!
I've seen a lot of managers come and go, so assuming MTs do too! nm

ASSUMING makes one look stoopid
You'd be willing to bet WHAT?
Seriously you don't diddly about the OP, but you are willing to bet that they are 'guilty' of A, B, and C - which then justifies another lecture - in your mind.
WHAT IS IT about you - and others who posted similar sentiments - that makes you think you can judge another whose shoes you have never walked in - and whom you know nothing about?
So did I disappoint you? Let's see if you can answer my post and its questions - instead of 'blessing' us with another harangue.
I am assuming that the Bait and Switch tactic
people smell the coffee and leave. That is just IMHO. Of course, if you don't make that great sign on bonus, and you decide to stay for making about 300.00 a week is your thing, then go for it.
Stop ASSUMING and judging and blaming
Who are YOU to say why people may need the services of a payday loan place?
YOU really need to apologize: Before you accuse, ridicule and abuse, TAKE A WALK IN THEIR SHOES.
Looked on their website but it does not appear that they offer benefits so I am right in assuming
this is not an employee status position?
I'm assuming she freezes on the phone with a pop spelling and abbrvn quiz. nm

OP - I was assuming you meant to STAY employed and get unemployment for the weeks...
She does not make her lines. Not quit or be fired and unemployment. That is self-explanatory.
To OP - My post was for partial employment or underemployment; i.e., keeping your job but filing for benefits.
Sorry if I was confusing! LOL
Hope you're enjoying those slave wages you're earning.

So you guys feel you're getting paid what you're worth with VR?
I'm not trying to be snarky. I've never done VR, so I'm trying to understand.
You're happy with your paycheck with VR? Do you find the files to be as bad as the original post implied?
So you're telling me, basically, they're bad news?
They offered me 0.095/line and you know - it sounded too good to be true, but I SWEAR the recruiter told me they do not outsource. Oh brother... I just wish they'd be honest. I really don't know what to do.
Not the OP, but they're supposed to take out all the other taxes as you're an employee with th
s
No, they're not losing money....they're gaining!
If a company charges their clients by the line, I'm sure that line rate does not go down even though the MTs pay does.
ASR pays about 2/3 normal line rate to its MTs. Their ultimate goal is to have the MTs do twice as much work. Therefore, the client is getting their work faster, but paying their normal rate, while corporate gets that money and the MTs get the lower line rate.
Whether the newbies want to realize it or not, MTSOs have not increased MTs' salaries in the past 10 years. They still start out at the same pay as the last century!
This used to be a very lucrative profession. Nowadays, most MTs are considered to be paid at the poverty level. You don't believe me, look it up!
Hey, you're in luck then. They're hiring! (nm)
