Who is an Employee? A general rule is that anyone who performs services for you is your employee if you can control what will be done and how it will be done.
Example: Donna Lee is a salesperson employed on a full-time basis by Bob Blue, an auto dealer. She works 6 days a week, and is on duty in Bob's showroom on certain assigned days and times. She appraises trade-ins, but her appraisals are subject to the sales manager's approval. Lists of prospective customers belong to the dealer. She has to develop leads and report results to the sales manager. Because of her experience, she requires only minimal assistance in closing and financing sales and in other phases of her work. She is paid a commission and is eligible for prizes and bonuses offered by Bob. Bob also pays the cost of health insurance and group-term life insurance for Donna. Donna is an employee of Bob Blue.
In our field of MT the what will be done meaning number of committed lines, would interpret into an employee if you must commit to a certain number of lines.
The IC job I have does not tell me how much or when to do the work only that if I take work, it must be returned within 24 hours. Get it? This MTSO is a client to me in my eyes.
For my own accounts, I tell them when I will pick-up and deliver. They are fine with that; they know they cannot tell me what to do. I am my own boss. I've been working this way for more than 15 years.
By the same token, they should pay
And, I'm sorry, but I thought it did sound a little high almighty. Obviously, they've gotten in trouble for work not getting back. The other option is to have asked if anyone was interested in switching and then paying a differential. Geez, managers! They really get ya' sometimes! I don't agree that refusing to be abused will wind up with the company offshoring.
Also, your point about her quitting is a good one, except why quit? She probably knows the accounts in and out. It's hard to start over!
To OP: I would respond in a nice way that you wouldn't mind as long as you are compensated as such. If it has gone on this long, then they need an incentive to get people to stay on to work these full-time weekend days.
By the same token.............. sm
Do not assume everyone at Webmedx is in the same situation as you.
I have 3 accounts, 2 of which I see on a consistent basis and the third a distant backup that I almost never see because my first 2 accounts are generally sufficient to make my line count. I am able to produce over 1200 lpd and probably could do more (and should do more). I work first shift, Tues. through Sat. I VERY seldom run out of work, and if I do, it is only for a very short time. So, you see that just because your situation is as you describe does not mean that everyone in the company is experiencing the same. You make it sound as if they are, and that is unfair and disloyal to the company.
Have you made any changes in your work that might help your situation? If you have over 20 accounts that are the most difficult accounts, perhaps less difficult accounts might give you a higher line count. You might also consider asking your SMT to reset your straight transcription/ASR ratio to a lower ASR amount. Ask you SMT when the majority of work comes in for your accounts and adjust your schedule accordingly. Working a different shift might net you more lines.
My point is that it is not all up to the company to cater to your specific needs. You might need to make changes within your own powers to help your line count (and paycheck) increase.
Easy to spot
lol :)
I got hired right off the spot
They e-mailed me my paperwork and I got started right away.
NM up there. She needs a new spot as her current job
s
Yours was one of the most eloquent, spot-on, and
to-the-point posts I've ever read on MT Stars. Every sentence, every typed character --- DEAD-ON ACCURATE!
I think every MT supervisor, hospital CEO, current MT, new MT, wannabe MT, nurse, doctor, patient, and elected official should read these words and take them to heart.
I think your talent with the written word is wasted in this profession.
I only meant that we do not run out. I am taking someone's spot while sm
they are on vacation. I know that someone will take care of mine when I leave in 3 weeks for vacation. It is called teamwork. We are not overstaffed on our accounts; it is a good workflow.
I also know that they are not hiring right now as we are fully staffed, and I know this was posted here a few weeks ago. There are a few new accounts coming and I am sure that they will hire then but not overstaff.
I was on that end before and NO THANK YOU. I hated scheduling and coverage issues and waiting for clients to pay. I just transcribe and get paid well to do a good job.
I quit "Johnny-on-the-spot" nm

Would think they would be doing some kind of spot testing or
s
No testing, on spot hire 8.5 cm sm
I have LOTs of experience. They have excellent benies and they contribute to your health plan making it EXTREMELY affordable with plans to choose from. They have PTO that is generously figured, incentive plans that are sometimes pop your eyes our good.
I used to get 10 or better. You know what? That 1 to 1.5 cents won't buy me health insurance, won't help that much on my taxes and certainly won't give me 11 PTO days a year...and I'd have to work EVERY holiday, not just 4 a year.
Your post is spot on. I agree with everything you say.
nm
Spot on! You've got it right! I am so sick
of these MTSOs taking advantage of ALL of us, newbies and oldies alike. It makes me sick, yes, sick, to read the posts from all the innocent new hires, who are so excited about their new job, and on here all happy with a few questions. My heart sinks when I see the company they signed onto, and then my BP starts to rise when I read how they love the recruiter, she was so nice, blah, blah. Boy, been there, done that, and these MTSOs and their lying recruiters are still playing the same game they were 5 years ago. I nearly went bankrupt believing the lies, and why not? Why would MTSOs lie to us? Why would recruiters lie to us? I'm not saying all do, but definitely the ones discussed regularly on this board are what one might otherwise term pathological liars. They have NO shame. Promise the MT the moon, get them to say YES and commit, and then just wait til that first week or two. That recruiter will vanish off the face of the earth. They're done with you, got their commission or salary, added another notch on their belt and have moved on to the next victim. Yet MTs read the experiences of all the rest with no work, no work, overhiring, and still fall for this. Its beyond a shame. I think it must somehow be illegal. I'll never forget a great recruiter at Transcend. I thought she was a saint. She thought I was so wonderful and special, she put me on their best account... I kid you not, exact words, and I think paid me something like 8.5 cpl. Which she also told me was their MAX cpl, and only done for me as I was so special... Well, unbeknownst to me, or her, a coworker who I shared my wonderful Transcend experience with, applied a day or 2 later. The same saint recruiter told my friend (again, not knowing this), that she would put her on a different account. When my friend asked if they had any accounts in the state I had told her - as I didn't give the account name, the recruiter laughed and told her it was their WORST account, full of garbage and ESLs, and only chumps got put on it. She was too special for it, and also got at least another cpl offer more than I did. And I had tested better and had years more experience, but my friend was more assertive. Well, she called me and compared notes. She never started, as she was so insulted at the BS, and I tried, but hated it. I just didn't have the heart, knowing I was deceived. That's just an example of the game, and its still going on. When you see the same company names hiring all the time, there IS a reason, and don't fall for the excuse that its because they are getting new accounts. Oldest story out there - right up with the check is in the mail. Cover this stuff up front with those recruiters, get a guarantee in writing of a work load and hit the ball out of the park when asking for your line rate. You can bet that whatever they offer is bottom barrel offers, so go for it! You have nothing to lose, believe me.
FYI, her work was just spot checked by us - sm
from time to time, as we are to send in client-ready work, no true QA. Hence a lot went through to the client that was less than stellar unfortunately. Their request to remove her was not a reflection of a bad QA department.
I'm so flustered, I got my name in the wrong spot LOL nm
x
No sore spot at all. I simply do my job,
get my lines and hours in without much trouble and don't fret about who's getting the gravy work. I get along with my lead and supervisors well. I can do any report that comes my way, even the ESLs that others continuously skip over or suddenly lose their connection when they see the name or number. Simply do the job I was hired for, collect a nice paycheck and when my day is done I don't think about it again until the next day.
You must have a really brown nose then
That woman wasn't nice to anyone unless there was something in it for her.
If I was such a brown nose,
I would not have been forced to quit. Trust me, I was NOT one of their favorites! :)
Brown & Meyers Anyone?
Does anyone have any comments/experience with Brown & Meyers - good or bad. I would love to hear about this company. I have been offered a position, but do not have much info on them. Thanks.
Brown & Meyers
I have been with Brown & Meyers for almost two years and it has been a great experience. I do not have to work a specific shift, have been given a raise when I asked after a year and am never bothered with phone calls, e-mail, etc. They are very personable, helpful and willing to give me any accounts I may ask for. They use the Sten-Tel platform, which probably isn't the greatest, but it is easy and works for me. I have never had a problem with paychecks- always correct and on time. I would definitely recommend looking into working for them.
brown & meyers anyone?
has anyone worked for them or know of them?
I like Brown & Meyers
They are very nice and communicative. IC position. Very happy.
Brown Nosers....exactly
You just hit the nail on the head! Why else would she be on here? Brown nosing to show her management how she does a great job in defending the company.
If she is typing for her own accounts on top of account management duties, she must be short MTs. Hmmm, maybe some of the MTs are starting to see the light.
I use to work for CyMed/SPi as well. It is a joke that all of the brown nosers seem to still stay around; and the ones that speak their mind are let go or pushed out.
Brown & Meyers
You spelled that incorrectly but yes, I have heard the same thing. I wouldn't work for them for any amount of money.
brown & meyers
i worked four weeks for them. tech was nice, but the training sucked. uploading/downloading was a pain. they told me i would be busy busy but i sat around waiting for work. pay was 8 cents a line. if u wanted them to edit your work, they deducted it from your pay.

Love it, brown something perhaps?

Call TransTech, they may hire you on the spot

The other thing is that I know India is a sore spot.
that really can get ahead with Focus. I also feel that not all nationals (hence their name) and MTSOs are really going to reveal they offshore. I feel that if a company offshores and is honest about it that it says a lot for that company. Honesty is a good policy.
I also feel that since Focus is a large company, you may not run out of work and you may advance in the company as I said. You could always give it a fair shake and if it doesn't work out, then move on. You can only live and learn, and you never fail until you stop trying. This is just my thoughts on your situation. I definitely would not worry because all money is green and it spends.
Axolotl a bright spot in a dim MT universe
Seems like the company is hiring. Though they are really picky it seems like they are what we are looking for, because their insurance rates are as low as some other companies used to be and as low as hospitals are and start in 30 days, they have a sign on bonus, a referral bonus, great high line rate and provide equipment with deposit. Company started by doctors and do not off shore. I am pretty happy about the prospect, however, they only take really really experienced MTs. Anybody have experience with this firm and could provide further information would be well appreciated. They just got a new account, I do not think they normally hire many because very low turn over. Any comments at all pro or con would be very very appreciative. Thanks in advance.
pretty sure this post is in the wrong spot.

Happy DSG'r = Brown noser
Is this Sten-Tel/Brown&Meyers?
Brown&Myers testing
Be aware everyone, Brown&Myers online testing practice. They change your correct answers to incorrect. Don't waste your time with this company.

You sound like the brown noser that
Your head is so far up her butt you look like her!
John Brown is just playing with you.
He said, NOT OFFERING A JOB.
OSI true to form: I am ready to quit on the spot
I just got my latest paycheck from OSi and did not get paid the extra 5 cpl holiday pay. The reason??? With their ridiculous new holiday policy my primary and secondary accounts were out of work, did not have enough work to give me the 1000 minimum line count so therefore I did not get the extra pay for the lines that I did type. I was required to be stuck at my PC all day and constantly got instant messages from client support to make sure I was there. This is just sooooooooooo wrong. I am so fighting mad and feel like quitting right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I need some help ASAP. Does anybody please know where I could get hired at another company pretty quickly? I almost don't care where it is because I am desperate. This is the last straw with OSI and I have had enough. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Follow up on Bright Spot in Dim Universe Axolotl
This is to the MT who was so excited about Axolotl a while back, and anyone new there. Thinking of applying, because it seemed perfect, but then staying with company until people have been there a while. It has been a few weeks. To the happy Transcriptionist and those who went with her to Ax, wondering how it is going. I don't want the stress of leaving my current job, so comments would be appreciated. If that place is too good to be true, I'd like to know and just stay where I am. TIA.
You've got brown stuff on your nose -
you know they monitor this board constantly! You talk to them all the time about it. Let's see how long it takes you to relay this posting.
Doesn't sound like a brown nose to me...
but rather a very grateful employee. This board is very discouraging to me. A lot of whiners who are not good medical transcriptionists and then turn it around to make the company they worked for look bad. Actually, it can be quite entertaining when I am bored.
or if you're not related you could brown nose your way
.
Brown & Meyers uses Word and FTP site.

Anyone hear of Brown & Meyers in Maine?
Any info would be great. Thanks!
Hmmm-methinks your nose is brown.
