Yes, but who on earth would relocate for a $10-15 an hour job?

Will the hospital pay relocation expenses? It's not worth uprooting the entire family and losing my husband's job when transcription jobs are a dime a dozen.

How on earth do you make $35-$50 an hour?
Would you mind telling how many lines a day you type and how much cpl you get paid? I just don't see how anyone can type that much that fast. Wow! I'm in awe! Have any tips for us slow pokes with attention problems?
I would never relocate for a job.
It would have to pay a six-figure income before I even considered it. There are too many jobs available with other companies, even other hospitals.
I would relocate if

to sweep me off my feet, take me up one wall and bring me down three.  Oh yes, I would relocate for the right one.  He'd have to be 6 feet 2 inches tall and built like a brick ____ house, muscles rippling and waiting for me when I got home every day from the hospital.  Of course, with all that, I wouldn't have time to do transcription.

I would relocate...
if all things were made clear at the outset, such as pay rate, guaranteed rates, benefits, relocation expenses, terms of employment, etc.

Unlike much more qualified long-timers who have replied, I have been doing MT off and on for 5 yrs, recently completed one of the online courses, and other courses locally, and have years of other valuable experience, but in the name of confidentiality, I would rather save that for later.

Recently, I started working with a national, and I am terribly disappointed in what I am seeing out here (as far as nationals go), so I would jump at the chance to be employed with a hospital. Most of my local hospitals already outsource, and I do live in a midsized city in the midwest. That brings me to the question of how long it will before your hospital outsources. They all seem to be going that way, along with doctors going the way of EMR.

This is an interesting post and subject. I, for one, have no ties where I live, no real attachments, and I adore the ocean. For me, I have reached the age where I can ask myself where it is I really want to go, what it is I really want to do and with whom. A picturesque town far from the maddening crowds, but close enough to still enjoy the culture sounds awesome.

Like other posters, there would be some prerequisites, as well, about which I am curious to understand why you are being vague. If nothing else, thanks for the food for thought! But, yes, for the right job, the right pay, the right place, I would and could relocate.

Thanks!
Well, personally I would love to relocate; however, sm
my husband is the bread winner in our family. I have to stay where his job is located. Together, we make a great team and have a wonderful relationship.

It is not easy for any married MT to just pick up and relocate. So, you may have difficulty finding some, but there may be a few who would be interested.

I suggest you try it - you might get that 1 or maybe 2 experienced MTs who can relocate.

The hospital you work for may want to consider hiring Independent Contractors themselves. That may work.

I live on the East Coast and work for a hospital on the West Coast as an IC. It works out beautifully for both parties. It is a very friendly and professional relationship and I go the extra mile to give them what they need.

Good luck!

Personally, I would relocate for the type of job you describe sm

especially under the terms and conditions you descsribed, i.e. relocation fees paid, paid by the line (although of course it would depend upon the line rate), great benefits, at-home option -- what's not to like?  I have no ties at my current location, and, in fact, have been thinking of moving somewhere new, just a fresh start in a new location -- sounds kind of exciting to me.  I even thought about Alaska.  I recently saw an ad by a hospital that was offering a $5000 sign-on bonus!  However, as beautiful as it is, with the long days/nights, I do not think I am cut out for living in Alaska. ... sigh.    The only drawback, I suppose, would be factoring in the difference in the cost of living.  Right now, I am in the midwest and the cost of living is pretty low compared to the east.  Still ........... I would love to hear more about the position if you decide to import someone.

I have been doing medical transcription for about 30 years now, and have been working at home for the last 5-6 years.  Something new is always welcome.

Good luck in your quest!

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN? Would you relocate to work .....
there?  Would you like to work there?  Would having worked for a place like this look good on a resume?  Just want some opinions here.  Thanks everybody!!
why on earth would they even need to be QA'd?

Not knowing the OP, I would not presume to say whether or not he/she is one of the MTs referred to in my previous post but it might be a good idea to at least give her the benefit of the doubt ya think?

There is no way on this Earth
for a company that doesn't pay for spaces.  g o m d t . c o m
Why on EARTH....
do you stay there if you are so unhappy? It really makes no sense at all. Maybe you are just a miserable person and nothing will please you. ?? I sure hope you leave Transcend and find a company that is a better fit for you. Good luck!
Why on earth would they want to do that?
It doesn't make sense.  User friendliness makes more money for them not less.  Maybe I don't understand what you mean.
Why on earth would anyone
want to work there? I sure wouldn't.
Why on earth do they charge??
How much was the membership and what do you get in return?  Just curious.  I don't pay to belong to message boards, although I would consider if I got something great in return!
The Day the Earth Stood Still sm

Patricia Neal had to repeat that to Michael Rennie's robot to stop it from destroying the earth.

What on earth is heresay?
Is it some kind of amalgam of hearsay and heresy? :)
Why on earth would you call it annoying?!

I'd call it being tenacious and knowing exactly and getting exactly what you want.  I'd go full on balls-to-the-wall!  Are you a mouse or an MT?!

(This is so not right, but it's the only warrior image I could find!)

No thanks TTS is the last place on earth I would work
.
Why on earth not? People in absolutely every other
x
Yeah, I'm going to miss J. Very down-to-earth
Philly might just as well be in another galaxy.
So what on earth are we supposed to do for a living then?
x
think, people! If she does 250 lines/hour, same docs daily, will make $15/hour
nm
You betcha - worst schedule on earth it seems.
I've been working weekends for 10 years and seven days a week for 3 years. I'm about ready just to tell the office I'm not doing it anymore - I did my time. If they want to fire me, fine. It's totally ridiculous to be horsewhipped this way. No other profession on earth is forced to work 24/7 the way we are with no days off, no vacation time, nothing ever! - even doctors and nurses get SOME time off, or rotate weekends so they can have some kind of a life. Sheez, even indentured servants and house help in Medieval Europe got one day off every two weeks! SOMETHING to look forward to - some kind of a rest!

So yeah, your message really hit a nerve today:) Believe me, you are not alone. When the heck are we going to organize and stop letting ourselves be bullied by these slavedrivers?
okay give it up people OSI is not the only place on earth
:-(
If D&L does not pay their MTs why on earth are they allowed to post here continually?
//
it's hip to be green these days, save the earth, etc. nm
zzzz
Wouldn't work for them if they were the last company on earth.
Go to their web wite, read the second paragraph. It says:

Creating a new way of getting IT done. Faster, cheaper – and yes, even better.

That tells you what they think of American MTs. Why would any American MT work for them?

100,000/year - no way. I charge $35/hour and work 10 hour days - sm
AND I DO NOT CLEAR $100,000/YEAR.

what's not to believe - I said that I charge $35/hour and work 10 hour days AND DO NOT MAKE - sm
I DO NOT MAKE $100,000/YEAR

try READING the post.
SS is the abolute worst company on the face of the earth.

The sound quality of their files is horrendous, their dictators are mostly ESL and the absolute worst ESLs I've ever done and I do ESL all the time and am very good at them usually.  I found their platform very time consuming, tech support wasn't very good, QA was an absolute joke.    If you take this job you can forget the coffee, you'll need Valium.   If you read through the achives there are many posts stating basically the same thing so it wasn't just me.  There are even a couple of posts where people decided to take positions against the advice of many of us and they have come back and apologized that they lasted only a month or two and we were right, that it was the absolute worst company out there.

I don't know anything about the other company.  I don't know if they are a new company or have changed names because I've only seen them mentioned on here a couple of times.

I don’t remember saying for anyone to find another kind of job, earth to gourdhead, oh
Poor MTs? I am taxpayer just like anyone else and I am not poor. BTW, will not make 50K as I do not work fulltime. I have taken up for the company before but, not anymore as people tend not to believe you and want to say you are management so people can think what they want and we will just keep it at that. Besides, don’t you have to get back to being a rah-rah cheerleader for all those poor MTs or is this the time for you to turn all nasty on them again like you just did, when yesterday or the day before? You remember, when people were asking you about how were you giving advice, being retired, getting husband's pension and the motorhome?
$35/hour x five 10-hour days = $1,750 gross/week.

$20 an hour is not even average for radiology. You should not make less than $25-30 per hour. sm
I work for Keystrokes and have for 3 years. I average 25 reports an hour, which is $31.25 an hour. I have 401, health insurance, direct deposit, life insurance. My lead tells me I'm wonderful when I talk to her, but I do not need a daily pat on the back.

I also have a good friend who works for them on a clinic. She only makes 0.08 per line but does 300 lines an hour, which is $24 an hour, again higher than your $20.

I don't think we're selling ourselves short. There are companies out there that are good to work for, 6 or 8 of them that I know of personally. Don't settle for $20 an hour.
Well if I could do 500 lines per hour, I would be making 35.00 an hour. sm
nothing to sneeze at. More than fair for having a 2-year degree. Come on people, we are all acting like we expect 6-digit incomes! Whatev!
If that's $9.50 an hour, that would be just under 6.5 cpl at 150 lines an hour. nm

Are there any QAs out there that are getting paid by the hour at 15+/hour? If so, where are you and
how are the work conditions/requirements/benefits,etc?
For example, I count every hour on the hour with my job
and while I was posting here and also checking email in between I averaged $22 an hour for 2 hours, not bad for someone who is a) slow or b) does not have a lot of time in transcription work; therefore making me a prime candidate for VR.
hour

Anyone know of a service that pays by the hour for full-time and lets you work at home?

24-48 hour TAT and that's what they get....NM
x
For 13.50/hour to QA - um - no thank you
x
24-hour TAT
Many of you post about having a job with a 24-hour TAT and/or no scheduled times as long as the work gets done.  Are there nationals that offer that or is it usually a local arrangement?  I want to find something that doesn't have a specific shift, just letting me work as I fit it in during the day.
24-hour TAT

We actually have 48-hour TAT.  I work for a local cardiology group in my area.  We can work whenever we want as long as the work gets done within that amount of time.  We can work weekends to make up for time during the week, etc..  That is the main reason I hate to give up my job.  I could make a little more elsewhere, but I prefer the flexibility.

$10 less an hour
I was laid off from HIS about 2 years ago. I had quit Edix to go to work for HIS as it was a better job. When I was laid off, I was denied unemployment, as I had quit the prior job. I hope those of you who just got laid off have better luck with unemployment. It is estimated from previous employment, unless you have worked for HIS for 1 year.
Do I take a job that is -10 per hour? sm
I got a job offer already but it is $10 a hour less than I was making at Heartland as a QA. The only perk is the bennies. Do I take it? Even unemployment would pay more I think!
$20+ per hour for QA.........
which is what is should be! Do you realize the admission clerks or people that greet patients and input info into the computer can make 16 or more an hour for data entry type work?!?! Can everyone please start respecting themselves and this profession. It's really starting to upset me :(
$8 hour an hour
I hope I misunderstand your response. Are you saying $8 an hour is a fair wage for a professional MT? Furthermore a true IC should be compensated approximately 50% more than the going rate to cover taxes, lost benefits, time off, etc. If companies could not get MTs to work for 7-8 cents a line as ICs, then I truly think we would be in this position. Unfortunately, we have become the trailer trash of the medical field because some, not all, MTs are willing to settle for less than they are worth. I am wondering what the long-term consequence will be for this field. Certainly it will not attract the level of professionals it should.

Too low - more like $16-20 per hour. nm
x
24 Hour TAT
I don't know of any national companies, but have you tried local doctor's in your area? I have a 48 hour TAT for the 5 doctors that I work for. Good luck in your search.
Pay per hour
If you are an experienced MT (10 years) with Meditech, Dictaphone Extext experience, Word, and experienced in various programs to access voice files, what would be the hourly wage offered to you to work in-house in the state you currently live?  Thanks.
12-24 hour TAT job
See the info. on LTS on the company board. I have worked there for 5 years, good people, pay on time, no spaces though; but you have about a 24 hour TAT, depends on when you get the sound files I guess off the FTP. I used to get my work at about 5pm, due back by 3:30 the next day (though some is due back by 10 a.m. due to it being picked up by the courier for delivery). I am now getting my voice files by 10 a.m. so I have at least 24 hour TAT (more actually). So it is a true IC job which is nice; you tell them how many minutes of work you want and then have it back to them the next day no later than 3:30 p.m. and everyone is happy. The only thing they ask is a little warning if you are not planning to work a day, week, whatever, the more notice the better. But good people and will work with you with emergencies, etc. They know life happens.
MDI-MD gives you a 24-hour TAT. nm

They are saying $8 to $9 per hour...

but this seems low to me.  I was just wondering what the range was in different states or this would be the normal range for this position.  Thanks.
