They are legitimate although they do charge a small fee which I didn't mind paying since they are legitimate.
I joined with Excalibur and I have been happily working with the company now for 5 months as a contractor on their client referral position as Medical Transcriber.
Don't let the fee discourage you - its for your background check verification and their work at home job bank registry.
Thanks & Good luck!

Excalibur Remote workforce
They want a fee of $55.00 I was offered a job there, too, but I wouldn't do it because of the fee.
Excalibur
I sent a resume, heard back today. You have to pay $55 for the background check etc but if they don't hire you, then they supposedly give it back. I'm searching to see if I can find any information on them now. It sounds good, if it is actually legitimate. I've seen them posted on quite a few legit freelance boards, so hoping it's not a scam. I'll let you know if I find anything good or bad.
Anyone dumb enough to pay Excalibur
deserves the lesson they are about to receive. WAKE UP! SMELL THE SCAM!
There is no shortage. And as far as the "aging workforce" sm
if they'd pay me what I am WORTH instead of fractions of a cent maybe I wouldn't have to work 2 jobs 7 days a week and age myself even effing faster.
Yes - and plant closings. Has to be 33% or more of workforce
The biggest loopholes (for MTSOs) are faltering business or unforeseen business circumstances. The loss of a client, for instance, might open either loophole for them to skate through.
Unfortunately, clients make it a habit to keep it a deep, dark secret that they're switching to another vendor until the last possible moment so that the current vendor won't start moving people to other accounts, putting their work at the bottom of the pile, etc. I've seen them call up on a Friday and say 'Oh, by the way, ummm...on Monday you'll probably notice a slight dropoff in the work. How many minutes should you plan for? Oh, probably somewhere around NONE. Goodbye!'
Respect the American workforce?
Since when did sending American jobs overseas equate to respecting the American workforce? I am so happy that I do not work for any of these sleazy, offshoring MTSOs. People, get out while you can, seriously. This is pathetic!
Data Entry / Excalibur
Does anyone work for or know anything about this company? Sorry, no time nor money for scams.
Excalibur is legit and they are now hiring again for new projects!
I been working with Excalibur for the past 9 months!
I currently do transcription and document coding with them FT and i love the variety of jobs they post each week in their remote job bank registry.
Thanks

WAH MOMMY!
"Aging workforce" refers to the population in general - not MTs.
It's pretty well documented that with the baby boomers aging, that anything related to healthcare including transcription will increase in demand. Supply will not exceed that demand.
.
I am a remote MT
You must have a different supervisor.
It could still be remote...
they would just contract with individuals versus a service, and they could have 1-2 onsite employees to facilitate.
remote MT
That is exactly how it should be.
Remote Coding
Does anyone have anything to say about the remote coding.
Are you forgetting that most MTs are remote? sm
Difficult for a company to pass out checks to someone who is hundreds of miles away.
that is exactly how it was when transcription first went remote--sm
and we made tons of money. Not any more.
Legitimate
Well, does anyone know if Transcription At Its Best is a legitimate transcription company?
Legitimate
But, it's network marketing and some folks reject it outright without giving it a chance. Too bad. My heart aches for the struggling MTs who claim they are poor and starving but turn their noses up at a legitimate alternative where they could become independently employed by themselves at home. There are a lot of legitimate work at home network marketing companies, most being in the wellness industry. IMHO, the one I am training with tomorow is the best out there. Some of the folks who are now millionaires in this company were just as poor as me 25 years ago when I first met them. I'm a dummy for not joining them back then.
You will be told that you can work remote,
And, there are a number of excuses that will be given as to the reason why. Pay is not toooooo bad. Would not go there. There are better jobs out there. Best of luck to you.
It's too easy to mistreat remote MTs.
They know they'll never have to face you up close and personal. You don't work on-site so you probably have no way of knowing what they're up to behind your back and cannot hold them accountable. The worst of them may see you as a mere tool to use or abuse to make themselves rich.
As for the nasty e-mails, some places send them to everybody from time to time as a general threat in their never-ending campaign to depress wages/line rates. Don't take them personally.
Legitimate Companies
Is there any way in knowing if the employers who post on the job boards or in the employment section of this forum are legitimate? For example, I see a job offer posted by someone named Patti. Why won't they give their full name or company name? It just makes me wonder if it's really legitimate. I won't apply for a position unless I know they are a reputable company. But it makes me wonder if just anyone can post here.
Oh no! Remote transcriptionists put on mute! That's a whole new low to sink to!
So sorry for you, though I can relate. Ah, I'm sure their ad really fooled us all, huh? More than just a number!
Do you have anything legitimate to share in this thread?
Or are you just bored because you're out of work?
I agree that they may not be a legitimate company.
See post my me above in response to internship post.
Finding legitimate companies
The best thing you can do is ask around on message boards about a company that peaks your interest. There is usually somebody who has heard something before or has worked for them. Search the message board for old messages about that company. Just make sure you do lots of research before you accept any offers. You may want to check out transcription matchmaker on the internet.
Netscript...a legitimate company??
I just talked with Doug from there today and was wanting to do some research on the company before signing the contract. I did not want to give my bank info and SSN to them without knowing if it was a LEGITIMATE company. So, would you say they are legitimate, like they are not going to get into my bank account or anything?? I understand that they are a bad company to work for, but I am in need of the work right now, so I don't really care about that. I just need to know that they don't get into your bank account and they do really pay you for your work. Thanks!! Any info would be appreciated!
Legitimate work-at-home job that isn't MT????
Please spill it! You don't have to say which company if you're worried about all of us suddenly jumping in with resumes, just what industry? Thanks!
What are some easy companies for a remote transcriptionist to start with?
I have been a Transcriptionist for 5 years. Are there any easy companies out there to start with as a remote MT. I have tried to work with one company at home but the training process was very complicated and required A LOT of computer knowledge. I need to know some good companies to check out and some of the ones to stay away from.
Are the corrections legitimate? If so, maybe you have a few things to learn still..

There is a difference between bashing and legitimate negative opinion. nm

That's probably why most legitimate junior colleges don't even have an MT program anymore
Only fly-by-night crap schools have MT programs because it's an easy way to get money out of desperate people.
Go to an accredited college and get a real degree that you can use.
That is the legitimate toll-free phone number
for Transcend. The non-toll-free number is ******. Laurie
Stop the mudslinging crap about all companies. If you have a legitimate complaint and
can BACK IT UP, then feel free to post, however if all you want to do is consistently mudsling with no real facts, take it somewhere else.
What do you consider small or big? nm

NOT everyone, some are too small for

Small MTSO
I am a small MTSO and I have two part timers that work for me. I try to allow them to make a good living but there are costs of running a business. I do the pick up and deliveries, I print, I buy the paper, toners, etc. I do the invoicing. I do the customer service. I do the QA, etc. So when I make 2 to 3 cents a line, that is sometimes barely $5 to $7 an hour after gas, paper, etc. I keep my line charge reasonable -- 0.11 to 0.12 and that allows me to pay 0.8 cents per line. But if my gals use their brains to use word expanders, templates, etc. they can make $16 to $24 an hour (200 to 300 lines per hour) which to me is fair. I pay them on time often first and sometimes wait for the check to come in. But you guys we do not make a lot when subcontracting out. But if a document is 400 lines I make $8 to $12 for the report and that is before all my expenses. So we are not jiving any of you.
Small companies
Please list the names of some small companies. I need to get out of a big national but don't know where to turn. Thanx.
To Small MTSO
No suggestions here except to keep up the great work and appreciation for your team.
I agree, don't waste your time on the ignorant's on this board that think everyone is out to screw the MT...it's a sad fact, but there are some who just have such blackened lenses to see through. It sounds like you really appreciate your team and there are more employers out there like you, really there are.
OR - sm = small message; nm = no msg NM
nm
oh by the way.....*S* small message...sm
did YOU write the acronym book? HAHAHAHAHAHA -
Well, I've online over 10 years and on boards/forums and SM means small message versus NM meaning no message versus LM meaning long message.
To each his or her own *S* It's not etched in blood.....*S* Hope you have a better 2006. *S*
Not small, not huge. When I was there it had 350+ MTs.

wow, this is a pretty small

Three small accounts that I do by myself..sm
I do not do any type of billing for the accounts, just do the work like regular work that I download from the company...so I think that would be a good reason for a raise. But, I don't want to say anything to make them think twice otherwise because these accounts that I have are really good. Does that make sense?
Must be a small company
It is a small company. Sorry if you're not impressed with my work. It works for me. I could do over 1,000 if I wanted to, but this suits me. I have another part time job that supplies me with income also.
and that is only a small part of the
problems they have. Communication is nil, rude people to deal with, and total chaos.
Small companies not for me
I have worked for both and I think that small companies are very, very particular. Not that that is a bad thing, but ZERO room for error (everyone knows perfection is impossible 100% of the time). So if you can QA at 100% every single time with a national, a small company would be perfect for you. In all of my experience my lowest QA score was a 99.2 with nationals. Small company just made me feel extremely inadequate. That is one thing about communication with a small company, you can start feeling attacked for very (and I mean very) minor things.
HTH.
Not MDI-MD - they are a small company
