Yeah, that's exactly what I thought too. Rate is way too low for a specialty and also IC status.

In Reply to: They only pay 7/8 cpl! That's insulting! - Who would take that job?

Just not worth it. I've made 13 cpl doing my own accounts locally for ortho doctors. I'd do that before I ever took 7 cpl or even 8 cpl for ortho work.

Yeah..and you should have asked them about the whopping 7-7.5 cpl they pay for IC status.
Paying your own taxes on top of that AND those schedules is a joke...Yes, give up all your weekends and evenings, pay all your own taxes, and for this..you get a big 7 cpl.. Wow.. I couldn't stop myself.. I ALMOST applied LOL
Yeah..thats what I thought too..

Started sounding good but then...black characters?? tricky way of saying we dont pay for spaces..

I emailed, line rate was low for IC status
7-8 cpl for IC
Yeah, but if you don't mind a low BASE rate!

What line rate does Medware pay for 28 years experience but no CMT status for an employee, also
is the pay higher for IC?
Yeah I had applied for the Escription account (before I knew the insulting pay rate) with years of
experience and no one bothered to get back to me. Once they told me what they paid, I would have never accepted anyway, but I find it odd that they would not pursue someone with years of experience. I guess they knew there would be no one I would accept their pay. Apparently, they are hoping some desperate people apply, which is NOT me but best wishes to them.
I also thought the offered rate was too low and didn't accept it. nm
s
Really? I thought it sounded like a good line rate.
nm
AGREED I hate the thought of having to look all over again. I do like their line rate . .. nm

How about your specialty?
What specialty do YOU type?  Platform sounds cumbersome, ....but cpl seems worth it?
Maybe a specialty?
Maybe they are trying to hire for a specific account, for a specialty? That's the only thing I can think of, unless like some other posters suggested they are super picky. I work for MD-IT, and I have found the QA staff to be very fair and easy to work with.
What is the difference between specialty
and work type. I am filling out an application for OSi and they want to know my favorite specialty and work type. What is work type? Duh! I guess I am having a too-soon senior moment, must be the stress of job hunting. Thanks!
Nothing to do with knowing a specialty...SM

It's the sloppy, lazy dictators we MTs have to pick up the slack for.  If you can't understand it, it doesn't matter how well you know your subject.

May I ask which specialty you type?

Specialty, IMHO.
I've done both, and I think specialty pays the most, mostly because you do the same people often, so you can really build up your shortcuts and whatnot. I, however, have never done inpatient OPs (to any great degree) but I've often wondered if that doesn't pay much better, because of the normals.

In any case, I'm making 9 cpl doing specialty (cardiology) and have no problem whatsoever (when I apply myself and don't stop to read this board) typing 400+ lph.

But that's just me. I'd like to hear others who have done both, because I've often wondered if that's the norm.
That depends on specialty
When my rad account went to VR, I asked for and got an HIM account until more rad accounts became available.
Do you work for KS? If so, tell them that rad is your specialty. sm
They have more radiology than anything else and always have. From what I heard from my lead, there are more radiology accounts coming on board in the next month and more the month after. It is the majority of the new accounts they are getting.
acute care vs specialty
For those of you who worked radiology or other specialties and worked acute care, which paid the most?  I realize voice recognition enters this picture as well.
Agree..with IC status, equip. is your responsibility; employee status - you should SM
not have to pay out-of-pocket for use of their equipment. I would never work employee status for a company who required me to purchase or lease their equipment. The only thing I would find acceptable is to have a small security deposit taken out of paycheck when starting with a company. This will protect the company from those few who might abuse the equipment.
Anyone know of Escription companies that offer IC status. I do not want employee status but would
like to stick with the Escription platform at all possible.
Employee status w/benefits vs IC status??? Dilemna enclosed

I am caught between a rock and a hard place and figure this is the place to get the best advice from those in the know.  I have been an IC for the past 5 years and love the flexibility but was interested in a job with benefits.  I started a new job about a month ago with good pay (2 lph more than I was making) and benefits......very happy with company but as an employee, obviously have a schedule.  I am working both jobs currently and starting to burn out.  On the new job, I am struggling to get the 1200 lines per day required but on my old.... I can easily get 150-400 lph depending on the dictator but again, it is IC and less lph than the new job.  Obviously, the platform is different and not paid for template headers/footers wheras the old one, I am paid for those.  Now to my question.  Is it just me?  Is it because I really enjoyed the freedom of ic status and therfore seem to be struggling?   Anyone else experienced this before?  Tempted to go back told job and lose benefits/more pay because in the end, maybe it works out be the same pay because of amount of time I spend getting the job done?   Not sure if this makes sense but hoping you can all offer some advice!!  TIA

Supposedly Spheris is sending reports out by specialty, SM
except don't expect the same rate of pay as MQ. With Spheris, or any other company where you must use their piece of ---- equipment, the line counts can be, shall we say, variable.

I really wish you luck. If you don't need benefits, try a smaller company. Put resume out there. Might get some hits.

Dermatology typically an easier or more difficult specialty? Thanks. nm

Is there an industry average cpl for multi-specialty clinic work? sm
I'm with this decent company and they actually are thorough and wonderfully organized with their employees, policies and procedures; however, I am typing for two hospital clinics with a total of about 70 different doctors and 15-20 specialties at a rate of .074 cpl and my reports load in randomly, not batched by doctor or specialty. I've been there a month and still can't make my daily line/hr goal that I need to make to be able to maintain eligibility for bennies. I get maybe half of the amount done per day right now but am slowly building.  I'm wondering if 4-5 weeks should have me more productive by now based on the number of doctors/specialties I have, and I'm wondering if my line rate is lower than average....   I'm an employee so I work a set shift as well.  Just looking for the norms here; I have no idea:)  Do you ever get to a point where you say, I can't do this job?  I've been an MT for 10 years and never had this problem, nor do I know the average rates with a national.  Thx!
You'll encounter ortho words in almost every specialty, clinic, xray, etc.

lmao!! yeah maybe I'm the recruiter...suggesting that my co-worker is the problem. yeah that make

Yeah, yeah, I spelled health wrong -
I am very angry right now and my fingers are taking it out on the keyboard.
for MQ STAT employees tier rate applies to ME rate as well and how calcluated?
for a STAT MQ employee:  Does anyone know if the tier rate is going to be applied to the ME rate as well or are they going to go with the 80% of the MT rate for each tier level?  If the tier rate doesn't apply as well to the ME rate then going by the 80% of the MT rate is less than if the tier rate would be applied.  I'm sure that MQ is going to go by whatever keeps money in their pockets.  Guess this is a question for the supervisor tomorrow.
Their line rate was less than my current nat'l rate, even with mucho experience. nm
no msg
VR rate is 1/2 rate of traditional typing,I believe it is 4 cents line.

I actually thought of that. I even thought of trying to go back to MQ part-time!! (sm)
I just wonder about hours at a second company.  I work days (and some nights) with this company.  I have a set schedule but with the no work situtation I've been on the computer at all hours of the day and night.  Right now I have no work, so I would love to jump on at a company #2 and start working.  Do you have to have set hours at your company #2?  Thanks for the suggestion.
I took that to mean you can get to that rate after 1600 lines and that is not the starting rate.
:
Webmedx ASR rate is 70% of your regular line rate. sm
So if you are on a 9 cpl account, you get 6.3 CPL plus any bonus / incentives / shift differential.
From the current editing rate not typing rate
.
Yeah, yeah, AND enjoy!

is the VR line rate 60% of the regular typing line rate?

IC status

I am an IC with Medquist and my base requirement is 4000 lines per pay period (paid twice monthly).  This is also required to qualify for reimbursement of a second phone line.  An important thing to remember with MQ, however, they are very office-oriented, meaning that each office sets many of their own policies.

IC status?
Didnt think MQ had IC status anymore.  I was one and was told about five years ago I had to switch to SE or employee that they no longer had IC status.
Looking For PT or IC PT status..sm

Been running out of work and looking for something to make up for the lost income.  Does anyone know which companies are hiring PT or PT/IC status?  Any info would be greatly appreciated.

PT/IC status
I have heard that www.rapidtranscript.com is in need of people for the basic 4.
I'm an IC. I don't think they have emp status.
They're in Stroudsburg, PA. you can find them address by googling.
IC status
Can anyone provide info on companies who do not require a schedule or line requirement?
Need to know your status - are you IC
Makes a big difference as to how she can treat you. What is your status?
SE status is
statutory employee, which means that the company will withhold your SS taxes thereby saving you paying both sides of the (I think almost 15%) when you pay your quarterly taxes.
IC status
While I understand the need for a commitment, lately I notice a big trend toward hiring of ICs with very specific requirements and I have been confused about this also. It just seems to me like the service owners want their cake and eat it too. Employee commmitment with no employee benefits or guarantees of work. What is that? What I don't understand is why so many MTs are willing to accept such rigid requirements at pathetic line rates on top of it. Personally as an IC, I would only guarantee X amount of lines within a 12-hour window. MTs who produce quality documentation need to not sell themselves short and demand what they are worth. It all goes back to the facilities getting what they pay for.
Are they IC status?
nm
non-IC status

Does anyone know of a company who is hiring PT status where you don't have to work as an IC? The taxes are just a pain to take care of and I would like to continue a PT job but just havent found a company offering anything but IC status.

IC status
This sounds like D&L typing as well. Must be many out there doing it, and someone allowing them to get away with it.
You mean from OT status?
If you mean has it slowed down since the OT that was required for quite awhile recently, yes, it is back to normal work now, at least on the account I am on.
What is SE status?
