lmao!! yeah maybe I'm the recruiter...suggesting that my co-worker is the problem. yeah that make

what's not to believe - I said that I charge $35/hour and work 10 hour days AND DO NOT MAKE - sm
I DO NOT MAKE $100,000/YEAR
try READING the post.
$20 an hour is not even average for radiology. You should not make less than $25-30 per hour. sm
I work for Keystrokes and have for 3 years. I average 25 reports an hour, which is $31.25 an hour. I have 401, health insurance, direct deposit, life insurance. My lead tells me I'm wonderful when I talk to her, but I do not need a daily pat on the back.
I also have a good friend who works for them on a clinic. She only makes 0.08 per line but does 300 lines an hour, which is $24 an hour, again higher than your $20.
I don't think we're selling ourselves short. There are companies out there that are good to work for, 6 or 8 of them that I know of personally. Don't settle for $20 an hour.
Home-based $14/hour

YEAH--WHY NO GUYS DOING HOME MT ANY MORE? - sm
I know in the hospital MT department, there was at least 1 male MT, and these guys were usually pretty productive, hard-working MTs. NEVER heard of a guy lately working for an MTSO, though.
Only my opinion, but are guys really harder to manipulate than women? I mean, if you pee on their leg, they won't think it's raining, right?
if your take home is $6.50/hour and your doing quality MT work...sm
sweetness, it's time for you to find another profession. You can go flip burgers with bennies for that pay. This is an example of why our pay scale is so low. There are those MTs who are willing to work for peanuts. One should never make this low wage in this profession. You must either have to do a lot of researching because you lack medical terminology knowledge, or the company you are working for is putting the screws to you. I truly feel sorry that you find are willing to do this. Good luck to you.
I was paid by the hour to work from home for a large hospital. nm
x
Yeah, but 100 lines/hour isn't even transcribing, more
If you have a decent line count, say 250 lines/hour, and worked that same UNbelievable 12 hours a day at 9 cpl you'd be making $1350 a week. Plenty to live on.
Yeah, it seemed strange to me so I didn't do it. Also, they had a 24-hour turnaround time for the
test, not unheard of but seemed strange nonetheless. No free work from me today.
Yeah, but we don't make what docs make. nm
nm
I make $15/hr doing VR at home w/some benefits
nm
You can make a lot more money than that at home
NO MSG
Can you make a living at home?
I have been an on-site MT for 15 years and have clinic-only experience in several specialties. I am considering a change to working from home. I am wondering if it is possible to work from home and still make good money. Do you folks feel that you do just as well as you would working on-site?
i make more money at home but
you must be disciplined to sit and not get distracted. There are a lot of distractions at home.. I do know I save a lot of money not using my car.
I make more working at home that I ever did on site
the most I made as an MT on site was 8 bucks an hour.
Really? Most MTs I know make between $20-30 per hour.
x
I make $14 an hour as QA and looking
NM
Uh, you said you make 4 cpl, $20-something per hour.
At just $20 per hour, that's 4000 lines per day.
Also, many companies pay less than 4 cpl & many MTs are used to making more than $20/hr.... so even more lines. It's ridiculous.
lol yeah right. if mt's don't make
money the company won't either, einstein.
someone is certainly soured on this industry
HOW MUCH ON AVERAGE DO YOU MAKE AN HOUR?
WHAT IS THEIR AVERAGE PPL, ETC.
Figure out how much you make per hour now and
.
I make much more than $17 an hour, more in the $30 range. sm
You sold yourself short. Did you pass their test?
Things that are good are sometimes worth waiting for. Why do you call it BS when you know nothing about the company other than you applied? Geesh. This must be Keystroke's week to be bashed. Who is next week?
I agree...I make anywhere between 25.00 and 28.00 an hour....
it is possible...but like the above poster said, you need to utilize Expanders and I have my own doctors also...no templates but having your own doctors helps...
I WISH I made $11.75/hour! Used to make more
This business makes no sense at all.
I make more than $28 an hour on average so
I am curious to hear about your union attempts but I will never join. I will be one of those taking up the jobs given up by those who attempt this.
You are entitled to spend your time, energy and money where you wish. I hope you don't come out of this attempt feeling defeated or hurt but I am afraid that will be the case.
So, for your sake I wish you well but I will not be a supporter of the union.
How on earth do you make $35-$50 an hour?
Would you mind telling how many lines a day you type and how much cpl you get paid? I just don't see how anyone can type that much that fast. Wow! I'm in awe! Have any tips for us slow pokes with attention problems?
OK, all of you on VR who make $20 an hour, please post.
And please, not the same 1 person posting over and over again who is obviously MANAGEMENT. If you are truly making that much money doing VR, I would hate to see the quality of your work. Oh, wait, I probably already have. Looking up old reports, the quality I am seeing is... not that great, to put it mildly. Obvious, GLARING errors. VR: Good for MTSO. Not good for MT--or for PATIENT CARE, to put it mildly!
Yeah, but those ol' boys make -
.
Yeah, I started at 8 but now make 9 cpl there...
at least you know you have potential to grow with Keystrokes...good luck!!!
MTSO gift to their at-home MT's who make their living for them and all the office staffs' livi
Why is it so hard to share their profits with the at-home MT's? ? ? Give me MONEY for Christmas because so much has been taken throughout the year -- I won't it back -- or at least some of it ! I will buy my own gift or pay my light bill or buy my children/grandchildren a gift with it.
In general, the top echelon is getting so greedy at most MTSO's! They would have nothing w/o the MT's constantly tapping those keyboards . . . and I mean it gets more and more difficult for us MT's as with each passing year to make a decent living . . . I dare say a living of any sort. Only those MT's who have husbands to support them are happy with whatever few cents they are offered, because it is only play money for them anyway. Hubby pays all the bills. I guarantee you that if a poll were taken of the Happy MT's with their at-home job, it would either be hubby making living for them OR mommy not having to pay a babysitter to work outside the home. Those in HR/management, with a little research, can easily see how our paychecks are dwindling month by month due to lower wages because ASR/VR is taking away the decent dictators and leaving only the horrible dictators (who take lots of time to transcribe a quality report), lack of cost-of-living raises, rising electricity bills at home that the MT has to pay, high-speed internet/phone bills higher and higher and loaded with taxes, rent/mortages/taxes/insurance continuously rising.
The office staff don't have to think about those at-home costs, as theirs are paid by the MTSO during their working hours/shift, nor do they have to worry about the lack of raises, etc, because in-house employees get raises automatically with tenure or with a 6-month or annual review or at the discretion of management at any time.
Personally, my line count continues to decrease; I don't know what the reason is because in the past many years, I could transcribe 200-400 lines per hour, and I do good to transcribe 100 or 150 an hour with the horrible dictators sifted out by the VR machine Dictaphone ExText.
Please don't yell at me -- because I am thankful for a paycheck -- but why is the burden put on my fingers to WORK HARDER AND HARDER to earn that paycheck. Don't say try ASR/VR because it will double your income, because I have tried that and know better and have proven that theory to be wrong -- at least on Dictatphone ExSpeech you can't !
The other thief of a good line count/wage for the U.S. MT's is the majority of our work going offshore because it can get done CHEAPER ! Who is all that extra money saved by offshoring our work going to ?? Not the at-home MT. That is exactly why I request MONEY for my Christmas gift from my employer, rather than some promo gift that is handed out to any and everyone.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL US MT's in the good 'ole USA ! ! !
At my co, I would make $5 per hour LESS to be a lead vs. production pay. nm
pppp
Im thinking by the hour and make it well worth your while. nm
x
Agree. I would love to make $20 an hour
nm
Can acute care make $17 an hour?
Yes. With WMX, in December, straight typing, I was making $25.73 an hour. Started VR in January, now averaging $20.73. Sucks.
Unions in Canada, MTs make $23 hour plus Yep
I communicate with an MT in Canada and that is what she relayed.
Yeah, they gotta make that $40/month!!
nm
Actually I didn't quote a figure that I make per hour....sm
(it is above $25/hour, however) but I will say this: if the MT field is one's chosen area, then investing in it is a must. That means, instead of calling others who state they make healthy per-hour wages liars, your time would be better spent in getting as much info as possible in how that was achieved - and learning from it as well as adopting whatever it takes to help YOU. It means spending more time learning and less time bashing. It means concentration on retention of info, both old and new, to further your knowledge. It means learning what works best for you - not the next MT or whomever has posted on this board. It means taking feedback, again, without whining about it. I know of no other field where criticism isn't an essential factor - again, use it *positively* and don't let it affect you negatively! It means being open to trying new specialties when asked - you never know until you try - maybe it's just what you needed! There is a whole host of other things that you can try, but TRYING them is the key. Nothing ventured, nothing gained - and gain IS, after all, what it's all about, isn't it?
Keep puckering up, maybe someday you'll make that big $14 an hour. Best of luck to ya. nmsg

In the early days, MedQuist said working at home was a benefit, therefore at-home sm
employees did not receive as many benefits as those working in-house. As I believe, it was something like at-home employees got 3 days off a year versus 10 days for the in-office employees -- WHAT?!!! I told them it made no sense to me, since by working at home I was saving them money -- no need to provide office space, equipment, references, utilities, etc. -- yet I get shafted. I was only part-time when they took over the previous company with their great policies, and I told them to kiss where I can't.
100,000/year - no way. I charge $35/hour and work 10 hour days - sm
AND I DO NOT CLEAR $100,000/YEAR.
$35/hour x five 10-hour days = $1,750 gross/week.
x
Yeah, yeah, I spelled health wrong -
I am very angry right now and my fingers are taking it out on the keyboard.
Well if I could do 500 lines per hour, I would be making 35.00 an hour. sm
nothing to sneeze at. More than fair for having a 2-year degree. Come on people, we are all acting like we expect 6-digit incomes! Whatev!
If that's $9.50 an hour, that would be just under 6.5 cpl at 150 lines an hour. nm
s
Are there any QAs out there that are getting paid by the hour at 15+/hour? If so, where are you and
how are the work conditions/requirements/benefits,etc?
For example, I count every hour on the hour with my job
and while I was posting here and also checking email in between I averaged $22 an hour for 2 hours, not bad for someone who is a) slow or b) does not have a lot of time in transcription work; therefore making me a prime candidate for VR.
Yeah, yeah, AND enjoy!
I doubt you will make enough money in 5 hours a week to make
nm
I make 4 cents a line, work part and make
over $500 a week on part.
Great post! I make 0.085 at Keystrokes and make more than at any sm
other company in the last 5 years. Why? Because there is always work for me. I love starting work each day, knowing that the company I work for appreciates me and has plenty of work. Transtech and Keystrokes sound very similar; those of us that work for either can count our blessings that we are not part of the cesspool or huge corporate mess that makes up the biggest few companies. We do not have to worry about our jobs getting sent overseas and we see a future in this business!!!
