hard for my lines. Took a second job part-time with hospital, same platform (EXText), same font size, etc. and did the same amount of lines in half the time. Decided to look closer at the MTSO and found out they weren't counting spaces. I confronted them and all of sudden. Got lots of apologies and will add to your next paycheck. Long story short, never happened and I never had any work after that.
There are a lot of unscrupulous MTSOs out there. They lie, cheat, and steal!

Most physicians/hospitals don't even know they're dictating into VR so still paying full-on transcription prices while the nationals/MTSOs cut the MT's salary in half. Nice huh?

I have had no problems with having enough work to keep me busy. As a matter of fact, I have had plenty of work. I asked for a backup account and got it. I type only radiology for KS and have to say I keep busy.
Be careful of what you believe here on these boards. If I had listened to the statements saying stay away, be careful, blah, blah, blah I would have never gone with KS. I am truly happy and have plenty of work.
It seems funny how some people state a bad experience, but others are happy and doing just fine. If anyone has any questions, please feel free to e-mail me as my experience has been positive.

Cy/Med and No spaces being paid!
MTS: I applied and passed Cy/Med - they tell me they have over 600 people working for them - why are so many MTs out there working for companies that do not pay for spaces - to get 600 lines you have to work at least 20% longer - why are you working for no spaces - I am told that many clients are doing this now - this is really going backwards in the MT business I think - Your comments please!

I just started with a company and when I asked specifically if I would be paid for spaces, they said yes. When I started using their program I noticed that the line count for each job did not include spaces. I checked it with more than one program. I called them and they said there was a glitch in the program that would be fixed. It has been almost two months now and that glitch is still not fixed. My checks do not include spaces either. No one at the company knows what is up. I can't believe I am the only one at this company who has deduced that they are not paying for spaces. So, do you check your line counts to see if spaces are included? You might be in for a surprise. Man, I am tired of being burned when I am a reliable and honest IC. Maybe time to do something else. Thanks for listening.

What I meant by "making up" for not being paid for spaces was this.
I've been paid for spaces before but have had awful software (ex. - unable to refer to past reports, being down constantly, etc.) as well as no work situations and no pay for headers, footers, etc. Also, I've been assured of not running out of work. Based on the above, I accepted the position. Of course, if things aren't as described, I'll certainly look elsewhere. Other than the no spaces, everything sounds great - soo, gotta give it a try!

I am very lucky I guess to have a good steady IC job, have about 22 hr TAT and take as little or as much work as I want (with notice). No minimums and can work whatever hours I want. Just have to finish all the work I am given whether it is 30 minutes or 90 minutes by the following mid-afternoon. Except for not being paid for spaces (I lose about $200-$300 a month due to this), it is very good and as close to perfect that you can get.
I just asked. We do get paid for spaces. If QA said that, they are wrong.

Are you paid extra to compensate for no spaces?
I just went back to my old job, because they are compensating per line the amount I would have made with spaces. In other words, I get 8.4 c with spaces, and between 9 and 10 cpl without spaces. If you are compensated with cents per line, the only difference is how you would react psychologically to seeing the low line totals at the end of the period. I had a time adjusting to this, but just remember 7500 lines without spaces equals approximately 10,600 lines with spaces. So you are not typing poorly, you are on target and if you are paid the extra amount then all is fair. It is how the client would charge, I assume. Talk to the people who offered you the job to double-check, but when I cleared this up, my misconceptions regarding lower line counts with no spaces, and productivity with the difference in cpl, I happily returned to my original company on an account that did not count spaces. Good luck on whatever you decide! :)

I think most places pay for spaces. I work for TransTech and they pay for both spaces
as well as punctuation. I would never work for an MTSO that doesn't.

I don't understand how Jayne cannot pay us. We have christmas coming up. I bet her family has a fantastic Christmas because she is using OUR money to pay for it. I worked so hard for her and I know the other girls did too. How insulting that she will not return phone calls or emails or PAY us. How does she look at herself in the mirror knowing that the MTs who did all the work FOR her did not get paid. She even sent me an email saying I give you my word HAHAHA her word is nothing, obviously. Well, I will call the attorney for the THIRD time and see what is going on.

MTSO has not paid me, and dodging emails
I really need some help on how to go about collecting pay from a MTSO. She owes me over $850. When I asked about my pay she told me that she will pay when she gets paid, but that she pays twice a month. Well, I have gotten paid from her twice, each time being later than the time before. Each time having to write her numerous times in order to get paid. This time, she has said that the check will be in the mail this week, a week would go by, no check . Then again the next week, the check is in the mail, again, no check. When I emailed her I got this RUDE email that said I TOLD YOU I WILL PAY YOU WHEN I GET PAID. To that I responded, well, I had no idea WHEN you get paid or IF you got paid and sent the check. I am just checking the status of my check. To that she wrote, IF I HAD SENT THE CHECK THEN I WOULD HAVE RESPONDED I SENT THE CHECK. Well, that was a couple of weeks ago now that I got that response. Then I wrote her again and she told me that she was most likely sending the check on Monday (last week). Well, Monday was a holiday I know, but as of right now I still have no check, and now she does not respond to emails. She has removed my folder on her FTP site, and she does not respond to voice messages either.
Please help me. I really don't know what to do at this point.

Hired by Cymed and told they did not pay for spaces, but paid for headers and footers. Just did a
check on the line count, and not only do they not pay for headers and footers, they also pay for 2 lines less than I typed.
If Ichart deducts 8% from ExText line counts, you are actually not getting paid for spaces
It is the equivalent of a 70.2 character line with spaces, 65 characters without spaces.

I worked for a southern Pentecostal MTSO, and
she NEVER mixed business with religion because that would be interfering in our personal lives, and she was too respectful to ever do anything like that. I think it's pretty ignorant of you to take your specific experience and paint a whole region that way. I believe the correct term for that is 'prejudice' and I find it disgusting.

Be careful who you work for
Let's be honest here. There are certainly more than 2 of us who have issues with pay from this company. Yes, some of us didn't work a full day but then we weren't hired for full time either. I was also told my check was in the mail, along with my tax form. Never did receive either of them. I'm not sure if being paid was my biggest grip with her, the part that gets me is when you asked for your back pay you were degraded by her. It was always something the MT did, never her. She has told a few of us that we would never make it as a MT and how unprofesional we were. This woman is a nut case and I wished I had listened to a previous MT that worked for her, I would not be writing this today. All I can say is stay clear of her and her company.

they will try to cheat you out of what you typed saying that the QA person had to correct too many reports thus, she would get paid for it and not the MT, even tho YOU typed the reports. Be careful if you do work for them, try NOT to leave ANY BLANKS.....hahaha.....you have to be PERFECT!!!! I wonder if they found any PERFECT MTs for their awful accounts.
I worked for a small local MTSO for 10+ years, through
3 owners, and I trained the last 2. The MTSO is a man. He is extremely disorganized, just wants the job done, not interested in providing samples, doctor's lists, etc. Frequently doesn't answer e-mails, not recognition for MT week. I lost 3 close family members within a short time, never got a card, a plant, or I'm sorry. When I worked there I did acute care and I didn't need samples, lists, because I had been there for so long I had the info or knew where to get it, but when this MTSO came on the scene things changed. He lost the account to MQ, who has since lost it to CyMed, and he got a bunch of clinic accounts. I left because I didn't want to do clinics, but I would occasionally do overflow for him. He was always calling me because I wasn't doing something right, but he never gave me samples or answered my questions, so I did the best I could under those circumstances. Pay is 7 cpl per gross line, which is 1 cpl more than I started out making 10+ years ago. Never hear from him unless there is a problem or he needs a favor. Checks are mailed and even though he is about 12 miles away it can take 3 to 4 days to get my check.
I currently work for a small national (about 50 MTs). Pay is better, MT week is recognized, my BD is recognized, Christmas is recognized. Not that I expect these things but it is nice to feel appreciated. I get an e-mail or phone call every few months thanking me for all my hard work and going above and beyond when they get in a bind, etc. Pretty much left alone to work otherwise, but provided with any information needed to do my job. I have direct deposit.
I briefly worked for YOG for a few months prior to their selling to MQ and it was the most disorganized company. I didn't know who did what, couldn't get samples, had to frequently call for work because even though I was cleared by QA and should have been getting pooled work I wasn't. Deducts if too many blanks. I still had them calling me to work extra 6 months after I left.
Worked PT for a while a few years ago. Very honest MTSO who has had her accts

I worked for someone who paid 9 cpl on a 55 BCL..seemed like a rip-off.
I did a whole page of dictation which ended up being like 30-35 lines..No thanks.
If you worked, you should get paid. It is a risk on both parts. I would sm
call them and ask why you were not paid.
I have heard lately about companies that do not pay on time, are constantly late, never the right amount, and it amazes me that people continue to work for them.
If you just started with them and left, you still need to be paid for thew work you performed.
