Wrong. Companies chose to or not to offshore work, nobody makes them. sm

My company does not offshore work, absolutely will not. We've actually gained/kept accounts assuring clients that we do not. We have many clients, cutting edge technology for both customer and employee, a healthy growth rate and a high MT retention rate. It's not impossible to have a successful USA-only based company. Sadly that may not be the norm anymore, but it's a choice MTSO/CEOs (whatever they may be) make and in my opinion maybe cutting some of the bottom line and offshoring is being done in place of producing a high quality of work that keeps a customer happy and not looking around for other service options. Subsequently I think these companies then suffer inferior work further because they are paying less and/or maybe have contractural obligations. Personally I'd like to think they'd still prefer high quality to low prices and inferior product. I have to wonder if these offshore companies are losing just as many accounts because of their product. I just know I am glad I work for a company who doesn't outsource, doesn't plan to, and has every intention to remain successful because quality does count.

Boycott the BOS? Why not boycott the companies who offshore? Makes more sense to me.
You have to admit when doctors say stuff they don't necessarily say/spell it right. It's your job to do so, and that includes producing a readable, understandable report that is uniform with those that are in use in whatever facility it goes to. If everybody did things their own way imagine what a mish-mosh of things would wind up in a patient's chart, not to mention there would probably be no end to made-up things or things inserted because it seems to fit.
I wrote a letter to Hillary Clinton today, and I also wrote one to Mitt Romney. I am also going to write ANOTHER letter to the Editor as soon as I can compose my thoughts. Just think, if we ALL did this someone might say, well what's up with all this? and maybe we would eventually see a change. This didn't happen overnight and it won't change overnight. And it certainly won't change at all if everybody just sits around and complains. Strength in numbers, they say, and I'm sure we MTs are a large one.
And I would type 40, three refills, I believe that's what the BOS says. I don't see it as particularly rebellious on your part.
Companies that do not offshore work
Are there any companies that pay a good line rate and are good to there MTs that do not offshore there work? I am trying to help a friend looking for part time work, but she is staying clear of those that offshore..
Any help would be appreciated.
Yes. I will not work for companies which offshore.
If we all did that, the companies would have no choice but to come back and give us our jobs back.
Are there any companies left who don't send work offshore?
?
Saying I am wrong actually makes your
positive posting not credible. How can I be wrong when that was my personal experience with this company? Lots of things went wrong, and I did receive a million apologies, but apologies and good intent don't feed my kids. I am more than familiar with your posting on MDI, and I am glad it went well for you. In fact, based on your experiences, I did apply at MDI. There is another poster on that other board, along with you, who had a great time at MDI. So, based on the 2 of you, I applied, and my experience was the polar opposite. Lest I thought it was just me, there were many others posting on here about identical nightmare situations - by the way, I did not post on here about it, just reading about it happening to others was enough for me. And others, who took it to private emails, stuck it out and still said they had no work. So, you are right in your experience and that is great. I envy you, honestly, as I really was excited based on your experience. But I am not WRONG in what happened to me, and shame on you for saying so. It seems a karma thing to me when a company is a fit or not - I actually think its where we are destined to be. When things are meant to be, all things line up for the most part perfectly. When things don't, I usually have the attitude that this is just a challenging step, as I'm meant to be here, but if the bad things keep happening, then I can also come to the conclusion that I was meant for somewhere else. Nothing personal - I'm not wrong, you're not wrong - it just wasn't meant to be.
well if you chose to work for a company sm
where you had to find your own replacement that was your choice. This poster did not and she should not be treated like that.
You sound like you are bitter because of your situation. Don't push it off on this poster. Folks like you are the kind that run these companies that treat people like this. I ahve worked in-house with folks like you and that is why I got out of in-house years and years ago! Never regretted it and have made a good living all these years.
WRONG! WRONG! WRONG! We turn down work because so many hospitals are sm
calling wanting a company that keeps work in the USA. The trend was stronger a few years ago before it all came to light about poor quality, the woman in Pakistan who threatened to post medical records on the web, 911, etc. There are hospitals who look for US-only and they are the MAJORITY not the minority. Definitely seeing the tide turn on offshore from an MTSO perspective, both MTs and customers!!!!!
Wrong. Alphabest does not offshore. sm
If you are concerned about it, ask the owner directly rather than speculate.
A job is not an afterthought to me. I had a FT MT job before my children and CHOSE to work PT so I
can enjoy them. I think anyone with children can understand that. I do take my job seriously and work and am a high producer. I enjoy my job but I also enjoy my other FT job, which is my children!
This year they chose one that really is a good company to work for. nm
nm
That is one of many reasons why I chose to work at home! No thanks to in-house! Good luck. nm

One of the few companies I haven't tried (ha), but they always have an ad, which makes me nervous
and I was told they do a background check, which includes not only criminal but credit, etc ... just too big brother like to me, but then again, I think they loan you equipment, so maybe that is within reason.
Good luck!
Companies that offshore
I am about to make a move as far as employment goes. I'm an editor. I am not interested in editing for a company that offshores. I'd like to know who they are. If you are aware of any, please list them. Thanks.
Companies that offshore can now
from main board:
MTStars has been staunchly against the offshoring of American Private Health Information, but realizes that MTStars must evolve with the ever changing views of conducting business in the global economy. The hands of time cannot be turned back on the widespread transfer of information globally and as of January 1, 2006, MTStars opened itself up to include the global environment.
I try not to keep companies going that offshore.

Need to know which companies offshore
Need to start looking and need to know which companies to avoid...please share the names of companies who offshore.

not 100% sure but I do know that both companies offshore. sm
why would a client pay for US people to do the work when India can do it for much less?
Two companies that do NOT offshore
are MDI-MD and Landmark. Let's support American jobs for American workers.
Two companies that do not offshore
are MDI-MD and Landmark. Both are good companies with decent, honest people who will treat you fairly. As to offshoring, I might mention that a friend of mine was laid off this week (along with 250 other people) from Wal-Mart because they are now going to send the work to Mexico. Although I am poor, I will NEVER again give my business in Wal-Mart. There is a great DVD called THE HIGH COST OF LOW PRICES. I realize that we are not Wal-Mart workers, but the same principle applies. AMERICAN JOBS FOR AMERICAN WORKERS! Do not patronize companies that offshore. They are giving America away. (If you don't believe it, look at the mess we currently have in California--the state is going to go bankrupt.)

If companies offshore they are not allowed to
post ads on MTStars. TM is not one of those companies. They are not an MT company, more like an employment agency. If a company pays to advertise on MTStars any post that doesn't glorify them is removed and evidently that is what happened.
offshore - most companies send
only what their current staff cannot get done or if the hospital specifically demands it - how does this take away from the MT or is it the fault of the MTSO?? I think everyone is angry at the wrong party - - everyone (companies and MTs) do what the hospitals are demanding
I think they are trying to be competative with the offshore companies for one,
but I think some are just greedy and they want you to think that they must lower their rates to keep an account and that trickles down.
There are companies that take a stand against offshore and mean it. sm
I would look for those. I know for sure that Execuscribe, JLG, Keystrokes and MDI-MD do not send work out of the USA. I am sure that there are others.
I forwarded the entire thread about an hour ago to my Lead Transcriptionist, HR and to the owner of the company I work for so that they are aware of Heartland doing this. The owner has already answered me and said that they will watch out for displaced Heartland MTs and give them special attention. She agrees that no one deserves this treatment. I am proud to be an MT, but discouraged and worried that things like this happening will chase away my fellow professionals. I hate to say it, but we really do need more structure if we are going to make a difference.
She tries to hook you up with companies that offshore. NO thanks.

More and more companies offshore. Lots of them
say they don't, but they do. It is getting harder and harder to find a company that doesn't offshore, whether it be to India, the Phillipines, or Trinidad. If you have children to feed and a mortgage to pay you HAVE to work. Unless you've figured out a way to get the bills paid and not work you do what you have to do.
Is there a list of companies that DON'T OFFSHORE?
If not, can we list them here? I'm tired of getting laid off or not having enough work from companies who're sending work to India.
If you know of a company that doesn't offshore, it would also be nice if you could say whether or not they require VR.
Thanks in advance to anyone who participates -- we're all in this together!
Here is a list of companies that offshore ... FYI
See study overview table from 2008 MTSO study:
Nearly all the offshore companies have front offices in the U.S. sm
Sometimes their actually hotel rooms. They use international phone numbers and purchase a phone # in the U.S. In point of fact, clients many times don't even know they are dealing with an offshore company. The owner of this website has done extensive reseach and knows who offshores and who doesn't. It isn't that hard to figure out when you start connecting the dots, i.e., visit the website and there is no place for MTs to apply. Almost all U.S. based companies have a place to apply. Notice that all the offices, including those in other states, all have the same address and phone number. And notice if you call that 24/7 phone number you always get a voice mail. There are lots of ways to tell. The offshoring companies are getting more sophisticated about how they work things. And some hospitals are getting more persistent about not contracting with services who are offshore. It's a shill game. Dishonest and deceitful.
Is there an easier way to find out if companies offshore?
I have worked for 3 companies that all offshored and were absolutely not forthcoming about it upfront. I never want to work for one again. Is there a list somewhere or am I banging my head on the wall. Again.
How about this? In a nutshell, which companies DO NOT outsource OFFshore?
I though offshore companies could not advertise on this site?
Guess I am wrong about that.
OP asked for a list of companies that DO offshore (sm)
Inside the post she asked to start a second list of companies who keep work here in the USA. I understood the post, and was merely listing Keystrokes as someone who does NOT offshore to go on the second list of companies that keeps work here. KS does NOT offshore and they never will.
WHOOPS, referring to companies who do not offshore.

Regarding companies that do not pay on time or get the pay wrong
I think the time has come for these companies to be named. I know there are more than one but seems to me that we owe it to each other to name the companies who do not pay on time or who get the pay wrong each and every pay day. We work for a living and we do it to get paid. Even if we just put the first initial of the company, that is fair warning for others who are looking to make a change to be aware that certain companies are dangerous as far as their paying practices.
Recently I was talking to an MT who worked for one of these companies and said to me that she hated to quit because the pay was so good. That is just wrong. What pay is so good if you have to pay bank fees and overdraft charges because the money is not there. Something is wrong with that statement and wrong with that picture.
If there are any owners who are reading this that make the practice of paying late or wrong then read away. If you are doing this you don't know how to manage the company anyhow and it is my guess your days are numbered as a business but if you think we are going to sit down and take this treatment any longer without reporting to the proper authorities then you are sadly mistaken. You can throw posts in the faces of the posters all you want but when someone does not get paid for their work ON TIME, they have every right to demand that they be paid.
What is wrong with these transcription companies
I cannot believe the lack of communication with the company I worked for for 13 years and the new one that I just quit, after not even completing training. They show you something for less than an hour and then you are on your own, stuck in your own mess. Then you go to quit and never hear from the manager who was supposed to call you between 24-48 hours after starting. I had sent an e-mail asking if the person could call me and no reponse. I decide to call and leave a voice mail and no response. I think I am just going to give up transcription. I had done this for many, many years and really am thoroughly disgusted.
Are there actually companies out there that tell you what you did wrong on the test?
I have never heard of any that would do that...
Great... *** is wrong with these companies? Ugh..nm
Unrealistic view that a lot of MTs do not understand. The offshore companies sm
have very deep pockets and make it attractive for companies here to use them. Even if every smaller MTSO refused to do it, do you think we would be able to compete with Spheris and C-Bay just to name two of the bigger companies that use the offshore transcriptionists?
Hospitals, unfortuneately, often care more about the bottom line than the perfection we expect from ourselves. Many doctors do not read the reports (most from what I understand) and just care that they have satisfied JACHO requirements by having a record in the charts.
Offshore transcription is not going anywhere. Sad but true. I do not support it but I am a small tree in a very, very, very big forest.
I think the 2 largest companies that do not offshore are Webmedx and Keystrokes. sm
Webmedx is in the $25m range with 750 employees and Keystrokes in the $20m range with 600 employees.
I am not sure about SoftScript or Transtech but I do not think they are bigger than those two.
I know that both have goals to be in the same size range as Spheris. I worked for Spheris in management for a while before coming to my senses and both companies were discussed frequently.
I just hope that MQ or Accusis does not buy either of them. The rumor is that neither will even think of selling but $$$ talks and MQ still seems to have plenty even after losing the lawsuits AND after having a negative income for several years. Not sure how or why, but their pockets are deep, as are those at Accusis.
Thoughts?
WRONG - these companies are not acting properly
encountered the same thing with SOME companies listed above. Or, there's the company who hires you, sets up a start date, and then you're e-mailing and calling, and finally receive a call from some computer tech who tells you the lady who hired you is now on vacation for two weeks. But, he'd be happy to try and help you???!!!!! What in the world is up with these companies? Don't go with anyone that does not keep in touch and respond to you in a timely manner, because that is exactly what you will be dealing with when you have questions and problems as an employee.
Actually, companies get BIG tax breaks if they do offshore thanks to Prez Bush; who we all know supp

Everyone is always wondering what companies offshore and i found a link to a bunch

Notice AlphaBest is on there and she SWEARS she does not send work to India. I worked there and i knew she did but she refused to admit it even though it is in writin now.
If feedback isn't sent to MTs, that makes more work for you because......
they will make the same annoying mistakes over and over
I feel the same, but all this out of work talk makes
xx
The MTSO I work for does too. It actually makes me feel more secure sm
in knowing that they must be doing something right to live in a huge new house, drive Jaguars and Hummers and go on nice vacations. They've been around a while and it is nice to know that things are going well. I think that if my MTSO was broke all the time, it would be a sign that he/she did not have a good business sense and I would be worried that the company would be broke all the time too.
I also know that I am not the only one who feels this way. The owners do not flaunt it or rub our noses in it; instead, they have made improvements in the company at the same rate.
Christmas bonus? Not sure if we will get one. Do I care? Not really. I am greatful to be working steadily with a good wage and a good future.
Think his/her point was the share of the WEEKEND work. What makes you so special? sm
Everyone else has to work a weekend at least every now and then.
I totally agree MT30 is an MTSO and a bad one probably... one that makes you work sm
for pennies and on Christmas and every weekend even if your kid has a soccer game.
You've got to be kidding! It makes a HUGE difference. I sure wouldn't want to work with

They offshore work
Some of their people are really nice but they send a lot of work offshore. They care about the all mighty dollar and not the people that work for them....
