years ago, dating it on the postage meter for when it SHOULD have been mailed, then the actual postmark being 5-6 days later -- I thought they would have wised up by now. My experience there was not a happy one. At the time they paid by gross line, which was nice, but I was on a nasty account in FL and would run out of work a lot. When I'd call in and tell them that I had no work, the woman would blow it off and laugh and tell me to just take the day off. I had no other source of income, so oddly enough I didn't find it amusing.

SPI can't afford postage meter
What kind of so-called international company still licks stamps to mail paycheck stubs and doesn't use a postage meter? I can't believe my eyes for the past few months!
That's pretty crummy about messing with the postage meter. sm
You have to think upper management knew about that, regardless of who takes care of their payroll now versus then. That makes me permanently scratch them off my list.
Just like they save on postage by not mailing SM
paystubs anymore. Every little penny they save fills their pockets, not ours.
One thing is certain, if you don't post you
want get any response. I have posted and gotten many responses, some for small companies offering 7 cpl as an independent contract despite me having 20 years of experience. I have had offers to QA offshore work for 3 cpl. I have had offers from some of the big nationals. I actually did accept a position from my resume and worked there for nearly 7 years before they sold out.
I have posted my resume too and weeks went by without a response. There is no guarantee, but it doesn't cost anything.
You got it! Great post! Odd thing, though, is
I have always been paid on production, but boy you made me remember the joy, absolute joy, of digging around in med book after med book and finally finding that obscure term! Or drug! It was such a tremendous feeling of accomplishment! And nobody knew we did it, right? It was just a personal triumph, and knowledge gained. Knowledge is so wonderful. But somehow that's what I feel seems to be missing these days - so many MTs don't care about knowledge, nor want it. They have no interest in searching for a term or even trying. That's the part that I don't understand. Again, I was on production, at first holding a baby on my lap while balancing my IBM Selectric, lining up all my colors of paper with carbon, and my bottles and bottles of Liquid Paper in matching colors. One typo and you were looking at half hour of whiting out each copy in its particular color - and trying not to let your tears smudge the rest of the job. But boy did we learn, and boy did we produce nice work! And over the months and years, my production grew and grew with my knowledge. Wish more MTs operated the same way and cared about the knowledge first, production later. Nice meeting you, by the way! Another crispy critter here, too!
Sure does, and the only thing anyone dares to post is
what they thought was funny from a VR error, that the line counts are slow coming in, or is anyone else having a problem. You do not dare to post anything controversial or you will get the pink slip you have been looking for.
Just came upon this post and LOVE it, thanks for posting, have one thing to add....sm
This past year I had a lot of changes, some okay, some pretty bad, but one of the only consistently bright spots has been my job this past year since Februry. Just wanted to share, as they are hiring, perhaps someone else would not like this position, but I have been MT for close to 30 years and feel very compensated, cared for, content, un-stressed, and happy.
My company is on the west coast. They have many accounts from clinic/acute care, sports medicine, ER, primnary care, and just about every specialty. They truly strive to match up each MT with primary accounts, and also with accounts you are familiar/comfortable/proficient in. Work is strictly IC, and they truly work it that way. You basically choose hours/how many/when, there are no weekends unless you want to work, no holiday coverage (unless you want!), very flexible with personal days, sick days, etc, as long as there is sufficient notice for coverage; pay is always corret and ON TIME, although we are paid monthly; Yes it was a drawback the first month, but after that I just took that fat check and budgeted it, no problem.
One of the best things is that we are paid by the GROSS LINE, which is a line is a line is a line, everything counts, spaces, returns, macros, certain headers, it adds up fast and to the the MT's benefit, believe me.
Our platform is MedRite XL on Crescendo network, very easy, fast, user-friendly, Word-based, all you need is a high-speed connection, Windows XP, sound card and foot pedal, training is very laid back, kind, helpful, and very rapid if you have been an MT for quite a while. My boss was just asking me if I knew any fairly seasoned, dependable, well-rounded MTs, and although I have a few friends in the field, they are busy with other jobs they have been at for a long time....I am not a salesperson, I am not a headhunter or anything, never even been QA, I actually over regular old transcription, but I really love this company, I have had some horrible experiences, and these folks have been a JOY to work for this past year. Please feel free to e-mail me with questions, I did not give the name so as not to be too much of a cheerleader. Happy, peaceful, prosperous, and very healthy new year to everyone out there!
Good thing it did end up here. Post about squecky clean posts has already been
:+
The only thing I noticed was counts slower to post - but accurate,I think
nm
Awesome news. Too busy to post - it's a good thing :)
Thanks for taking the time to let me know.
Something that caught my eye here is
you said an older woman. Good common sense should play into the part about the chem-7, just ordinary, every day sense, doctors, hmmmm, medicine, chemistry, sorta goes together. I would think a child should know that.
Just caught you in a lie.........sm
You said you typed 130 wpm yet you only make $17 an hour on VR. No way would you make that little with typing straight at 130 wpm. You must be thinking 130 lines per hour! 17 bucks an hour STINKS! I make $20 an hour typing and I made $25 an hour editing humans. !!!! so there smarmy pants!
DON'T GET CAUGHT IN YOUR OWN LIE. sm
First of all, you're obviously mgmt. since you know so much about inside goings-on.
Second, and here is where the fib comes in: You expect us to believe that Leads don't type on their own lead shift (they're too busy, too much to do-LMAO) - and their lead shift is obviously a 40-hour shift, if the hours on the bottom all of their holier-than-thou e-mails are to be believed - when DO they do their transcription - during their SECOND shift or 41st hour ( I assume they finish their 40-hour lead shift and then get paid OT to do their typing). Are you another one who thinks all the rest of us peon MTs are so dumb. MTs regularly get the halfway decent work taken out of their queus and get h--l when they compain about it.
yes, I caught them first
but already sent e/m asking them to forgive them. I am so flipping tore up over all this. Thanks for the good suggestion though.
I caught that...
I wondered if perhaps the OP was attempting to alleviate her own guilt about staying for some reason.
As one of the MTs who DID leave as soon as they saw fit to quit routing their MTs work, I just kind of chuckled at her wondering which MTs actually left. I don't know about the OP, but there's no way I'm spending my valuable time sitting at a computer waiting for a few reports to trickle in. There are too many other 'fish in the sea'. We were not even employees; we were SE or IC status. They owed me nothing but a paycheck and I owed them nothing but my daily line commitment.
I'm not going to be loyal to ANY company that would, by choice, let MTs sit and starve while they ignore emails and deceive their staff. My loyalty is to myself and my family, for whom I provide. Other than that, I've never had a problem separating my 'professional' life from my 'personal' life.
I feel no guilt whatsoever. It was not my role in life to 'serve' MDI (or any other company). They contracted my services and my loyalty to them was in force during whatever hours I would transcribe for them; other than that, call me insensitive or selfish or greedy, but I don't feel guilty about anything regarding my actions.
They chose to sell, I chose to walk.
Plain and simple.
Thank goodness someone other than me caught that!
nm
uh uh.. I had 2 that were not; they caught me off guard.
/
I think they caught a lot of slack....sm
from the clients when the trouble was going on in India and most of their clients demanded to be brought back onshore. That is why most of the accounts are so good....very good dictators. remember, the easy stuff always goes offshore.
They got caught lying about offshoring!
Love it when one of these companies gets called on the carpet!
Other than the offshore, lied about it and got caught you mean.
maybe they caught on to your attitude and decided against it.
nm
I think a lot of us were caught off guard with no work

I got caught in a new job awhile back
that went dry for months and it really hurt me financially. Loved the job, loved the people but was on the brink of bankruptcy. My advice would be to keep the sure thing in these economic times. Good luck to you whatever you do.
It caught me by surprise too -- I'm right there with you. Fortunately, I have a 2nd job sm
so that helps take the sting out a bit. I love the people and love the company, but I do not think maybe they realize what a big shock $30 can be sometimes. To me, the more fair thing to have done would have been to say something like effective next check, we will be taking out double premiums until we catch up or whatever. However, cannot unring a bell.
And I have always been a bit disappointed that they wait until the following Monday to pay us instead of that Friday, but for the most part it is a good company. Seems like all of the MTSOs hang on to their $$$ as long as they can -- guess the interest is better in their pockets than on our paychecks. I was stupid and am now waiting a month to get paid for work I did for a woman in Virginia. Chalk it up to lesson learned.
Good luck to you (and me!).
Hope you caught my drift....
I think you are precisely right in your perception that communication is discouraged, as I have heard this (but have no proof of it) in the past, not just about Transcend but a few other MTSOs too, that they prefer to keep their employees 'remote' in all senses of the word, including not communicatng with one another.
I don't think you're being kept out of the loop; I think the only 'loop' might be a chosen few higher-ups that communicate.
I could be wrong, but I felt the sting of your post and wanted to let you know it's probably not personal at all, but something shared with a privileged few.
Thanks for wishing everyone luck, and good luck to you as well!!!
Last week we were staying caught up with TAT so I guess
you could consider it a slow week, this week we are out of TAT again, so things are back to normal.
Caught your Cowsills reference. Cute! :) nm

Actually, we have all resumes caught up to within 24 hours at this time. nm

I caught that too - "self limiting" gawd
It is the lack of being paid a decent wage for the skill provided/expected, What would it be 40, 50, 60% paycut for the same skills and expectations from the MTs.
Management is paid big wages to manipulate the numbers, and convince the MTs - things are fine, DONT self-limit, you are being treated just fine, the wage is fine, we are fine, you will be fine and the suits march off to the bank.
My heavens have a conscious, don't treat the MTs like a backroom sweat shop, slave labor, like sewing machine workers paid by the piece (literally pennies a piece) and the product is designer labels bringing in thousands per product. Both sides have to be able to survive and not work like slave and still not be able to make it money wise, pay bills, etc
My primary is caught up, but other accounts have some work. NM
xx
Oops..excuse me..before I get caught..not "your" but you're.. NM
When I worked there about 5 years ago, I caught them backdatng the date sm
on the postage meter as if they had mailed it on payday, like I wouldn't notice that it was POSTMARKED 5 days later! I have used a postage meter before ... you can set the date to anything you like .. duh. It was in my contract that the checks were to be mailed every other Friday from the Tampa airport. I pitched a big fit and finally Giselle Fed Ex'd my checks after that. I would hope by now they would have direct deposit. You shouldn't have to sit and wait for your check and be at the mercy of the mail, nor should you have to pay extra just to make sure you receive it in a timely fashion. They have been in business long enough that they should have established direct deposit. It was posted awhile back that they had it for awhile and then did away with it because of some issue with the bank. I would be very, very careful if you need your check in a timely manner. It seems that they just barely meet payroll, but that was just my impression.
Good luck.
I caught that line also "equals out to" thought ah oh!! means what?
.
Nope, the board administrator checked with OSI and they lied to her and got caught.
c
Caught that. Thx! Something about competition clauses at the time kept them from hiring in NY state.

You are most definitely upset that your Bush **s-kicking ways have rendered your eyes caught in the
Without MTs, companies would not exist. You and many others have no regard nor respect for hard-working MTS. You can't take it with you. I feel sorry for you. Do the right thing...and, you know what that is.
My post should say the post above not the post below, Sheryl's post to be specific. nm
nm
Debate is one thing, and posting is one thing,
but this is getting absurd. I think it must be the same person, otherwise multiples who cannot stay on topic?? Why can't you STICK with the subject? The subject of my post was NOT what your cent per line rate was or is - I could care less- and not how much money you made last year, this year, or in your life, but how silly the comment was that your cents per line rate means NOTHING, that its up to you - some fluff like that. That is just so silly. Again, working for the same company, same account, is one going to make more money being paid more per line? OF course! This is so frustrating and really makes me so tired of reading this garbage let alone posting. Its like a nightmare. And also makes me completely believe that the original company must pay peanuts.
good thing it is a temporary thing sm
because people with your attitude don't stay in anything very long anyway. Nobody has to listen to that crap to keep their job.
You don't know me either. you can say old fart all you want (when did 53 get to be old fart....too funny) but at least I am a valuable employee who can get a decent job!
Well for one thing, it would not be a professional thing
to do for any MTSO to have a board to do this as part of being an MTSO involves the ability to identify and hold on to confidential information. Even if a person is a job hopper (which in this business rather than go against you can make you a stronger better MT if you can do just about anything thrown at you), if a person is looking for a job, a company needs to have the MT's permission to contact their current employer. Where one has worked or has not worked is something that is very unprofessional being discussed on a board by MTSOs.
Being a business owner of any kind comes with it possessing what it takes to maintain ethical practices.

Peachy, your post is interesting, but my post now is irrelevent but
A few weeks ago I went to my clinic where they had recently implemented EHR or EMR, whichever you call it, and the doctor's back was to me the whole time he and I conversed because his nose was stuck in his laptop. To me, it felt a little more impersonal, but I understand he was doing what he had to do, but it seems like the bedside manner may go to the wayside if the doctors can't even look at you when they are asking you questions or you are speaking to him/her. I know this is relevant to your original post, but just an interesting fact that I had not anticipated. Anyone else experience this?
This is why I NEVER post my cpl. I'll post the range of
what the company pays, but NEVER what I make. I know that I make more than probably 70% of the people there, because they know I produce a client ready report and that I can do anything they throw at me. We don't have levels, but I guess if we did I'd be at the highest level. Telling how much you make isn't so bad, but when people know what company you work for and then what you make that isn't a good combination. The ONLY people I have ever discussed what I make with, are my husband and my MTSO owner. Talking about your salary/pay is enough to get your fired in lots of companies.

One post was another "run" type of post and the
the recruiter. Once you are in with the company, the recruiter has nothing to do with you or your job. I want specifics about problems with THE JOB, not the recruiter. Specifics such as no or late checks, line counts being messed up, no work, taking bennies away with no explanation. Things that matter, not the recruiter.
