With the alleged shortage of decent MTs, which you managers are quickly turning into VR editors sm

You should not be complaining about graphics or colors on resumes.  You should, frankly, be grateful for any applications you get.  The way MTs are being turned into editors for you voice recognition crap is horrible, and you should be apologizing for it.

4 cpl could be for newbies or editors. Don't judge so quickly
Consider that service owners have to take the time to edit and provide feedback to newbies and that takes a LOT of time.
CBay transcribes all work in India. Has some US editors but also has Indian editors.

When I find decent people who know the value of decent wages, I will!
tyvm
Thanks. Can you make any decent pay with them and are the accounts decent. What is your feeling
that. Thank you.
Sounds like OSi is turning into
visa versa. I have worked for both and they both STINK!!!!!!!!! STAY AWAY, (RUN FOREST RUN) LOL.
Perhaps a new page is turning here
I believe that with new life being breathed into TTS daily that some of the past problems have been eliminated and that they are working on the others. It is easy to believe negative posts and none of us want to get into a bad situation, but I trust the person I spoke to about TTS and I have learned in the past few months up close and personally that everyone needs to be responsible for making their own decisions about employment. If you have a good work ethic you might find a pleasant surprise now at this company. Work is plentiful and it is good work. Rates paid are based on your individual negotiations and not perhaps what you think based on what is posted here. Professionals can always find work. I put my line in the sand and I ended up in a good place. You can do the same.
Who is to say that the MTs turning out these reports...
know the difference. There are some of us older MTs who were fortunate to have some kind of hands on training and actual mentoring, but how often does that happen anymore?

The assumption is that these MTs are purposely rushing through reports and leaving glaring errors to pad their paycheck. All I am saying is companies hire new MTs for a lot less than their veteran MTs and then turn them loose with little or no help.

I was always told from my supervisor that no news was good news, and I think that is pretty much how they all are. So, these people probably bounce along thinking everything is great because nobody is pointing out errors to them. They still have a job, so they must be doing it right...right?

Again, I say the industry is creating this standard and the hospitals are accepting it. That does not make me unhappy with my job, and I don't sit around wondering how much my boss makes. I just take exception to laying the blame for poor quality reports squarely on an MT.
What sad is they're almost turning on each other..
Snide implications about whether some really quit and other nasty little asides. Kinda confirms the lack of a sisterhood, huh?
The tide is turning with AAMT
NOT! They have never cared about MTs, only about our money. They will, as they say in the movies, Follow the Money, right to India. They have no shame.
I'm turning 60 next week. My speed is as sm
fast as it was 20 years ago when I get dictators who can speak English well enough to be understood. It's the verbal stumblebums who slow me down when I first have to TRANSLATE and then transcribe. Age, for me, has nothing to do with speed. If anything, it has made me faster.
hourly turning out to be not so great.
hourly pay during VR is turning out to be a huge drop in pay as I am only paid hour while actually typing in a report. regular transcription and VR are intermingled all throughout the day as to manipulate my livelihood such that I am making about 200 dollars less per payperiod, that is almost 400 dollars a month.
I think the tide is turning and AAMT will be American again soon. nm
nm
Yes, you should run very quickly, it is by
far the worst company to work for.
Not in direct response to turning down any of these companies but regarding speech rec sm
So far Webmedx has only rolled out ASR (assisted speech rec) on one account; every one of the MTs on that pilot project liked ASR and chose to remain with it. We've been told that each MT will be able to choose whether or not to use ASR when the time comes - you can either try it or type it as you did before.

As for work assignments, personally I've not seen any difference in what accounts I work on - if you aren't trained on an acct, you don't get that work. It's not like everyone was thrown into one giant pool.

I know this doesn't answer your specific question, but thought it might enlighten about the changes at Webmedx.
Okay, this is turning ugly. These kind of comments are unprofessional
If you here work for the company you could be earning money by taking TT up on the big BONUSES this weekend that nobody has mentioned while griping about the headers, etc. um er, how about telling the world that lines and a half are being offered and an extra 50 to 100 in addition. So, why not just put your ugly comments away and get to work!
Shortage
I also am questioning how top heavy some of these services seem with management. It seems to me the money they think they are saving with cheap outsourced labor is being spent on more editors and managers to clean up the mess. Also many of us are "educated" just not willing to work for less than we would make workinig at Taco Bell so I don't think the education issue is that cut and dry.

It is very sad you are so accepting of offshoring and AAMT turning a blind eye to the American MTs.
The offshoring would not be a problem if there was not such a huge difference in cost. We are on the losing end and taking pay cuts because of offshoring. Also, I know many who have lost their jobs to cheap labor overseas. AAMT is encouring this. That is wrong. America is slowly become a third world country in itself. If we don't stop it now, there will be no jobs left for Americans. I don't care where you are from or what kind of job you have, the pay should be equal for all so the competition is fair. You will find after some time with AAMT, you will be ignored and will receive nothing but redundant information from AAMT office and local chapters. Anything they offer can be gained via the internet now.
How is turning you down for a position rude? Are they, or any other company, obligated to give you
No. As a recruiter, I am seeing this more and more. Maybe the hours you were available did not match what they needed. Maybe your equipment or speciality or background did not match. How is it rude not to hire someone? There would be no need for interviews if everyone was just hired because they applied. I did not understand most of this until I started recruiting. The company I work for is spoken well of on this board and then bashed at other times. I see a lot of people that think they are entitled to a position or a shift or a certain account. It is difficult to be on this side.
Very quickly. It's the truth.
I know some people may take a little longer to answer, but honestly, I only experienced that a couple of years ago when I first started. Whenever I need to ask a question, I've been getting answers very quickly, and I know that when someone IMs me, I'm getting right back to them...unless I ran to the potty. :)
Move on quickly...
There are other great companies out there. This really touched me, you sound like a single mom who is trying to just make the best for her kids. I feel for you! I, too, am trying to raise two kids, but work for a great national even though there has been a lot said of that, but they have been good to me. Don't feel like where you are at is the only option. There are many other places out there, just start looking and working at home really isn't so bad! Good luck to you!
they can speak as quickly as they want to? sm
WHAT? That is an insane statement. What is worse than a doc who is racing through his dictations, almost nothing worse in my opinion, it's my pet peeve I think (hides)
Seems like the same docs on my accounts, but sound quality is turning into an issue. Hang in there!

Shades of Young Frankenstein, ''A riot is an ugly ting ... and it's zhust about time we had one!''
Yes, definitely upset about the shortage.
I had 16,000 lines plus in a pay period. Some of those days were supposed to be double lines for either working over or on a day off. I was told there would be a percentage taken off for header/footer. I had no idea it would be on total lines. I am getting about a 10 line difference between the software counter and MS Word counter. I have no idea about the new MTs - I am kind of new too, started about 8 weeks ago. Took 6 weeks to get my first paycheck. :( I do have another place I can work, but that lady takes more than 2 weeks to send a paycheck too. I am afraid to work for any of these companies at this point.
Any other MDI-MD'r's having shortage of work?
Seems like everything is dried up and can't make my line count each day.  Wonder why?
Because the shortage does not exist. nm
nm
No work shortage here
Too much work for me, it's overwhelming. Of course, I work locally for a group of doctors. Do you work for just the one company? Maybe try to find another part-time position, although at this time with the economy, they may be few and far between. I can understand your frustration.
no shortage at my company either.
Not over the holidays, not now. Are you working for a company that offshores?
Work shortage.
Would you mind telling me what company you work for where there there is so much work?  I am in the same boat with almost never enough work to make a good salary, and it just seems to be getting worse.  I am going to be forced soon to look elsewhere.
Sorry - but BS!!! - no shortage of transcriptionists!
There is in fact not a shortage of transcriptionists in the United States. I don't give a hoot what the companies say. There are very qualified and willing transcriptionists trying to find work right now and cannot, while the work is being offshored.

The problem is that they can pay less to the transcriptionists when they are offshoring, not because they cannot find transcrriptionists!
NOT a shortage of work
I am betting the work is being shuttled off to India to train their people to do it for two rupees a day. Face it, MDI's dirty little secrets are becoming known.
If you pass, they get back w/you quickly
It's after you get "hired" that seems to take forever. I got my test results in 2 days, a week to hear from the recruiter, a week to get employment package, a week to get receipt of that acknowledged and schedule training, a week to start receiving equipment. And who knows how long before one is released from training to full production. I'm starting to wonder, but my current place is so awful that MQ is a definite step up. Anyway, don't quit your old job if you get hired; wait until you know when you will be in full production.
Things disappear so quickly
x
This is classic, but I can usually get them to go away pretty quickly!
No matter what they say I respond No speak English. One lady even tried speaking in Spanish, but I just kept saying the same thing. LOL! Yes, caller ID helps enormously too! I do not answer unknown name calls who do not display their number or anything that seems fishy.
I just quickly looked through my info

and I can't find the tuition reimbursement info.  I've not had the opportunity to use it.  I do remember something about the fact that they pay for CMT certification if you pass.

If I can answer any other questions for you please don't hesitate to ask!

Things change quickly, I would look twice -sm
All Type has just done a major cut on their MTs pay rate - major.  At least 80% of their work is done outside of the country and more is being shipped every day.   You are being hired to keep their business moving because many are leaving with the pay cuts and they need you to work while they make the conversion to India complete.  They will need editors to cover the inadequacy of those reports but American MTs can wave so long to their jobs with All Type.  All Type should take down their American flag and fly the flag from the country they support - India.
things can change very quickly sm
so be careful because you might change your tune!
Is there really a shortage of US MTs or am I blind and deaf?? sm

I was talking to a prospective employer today.  First off, it is a start-up company in US.  They already have a base in the Philippines. Well, that turned right off; however, we continued the conversation.  My question to this person was this.....so, if you were to get contracts for MT here in the US, are you willing to just hire US MTs?  Answer...Well there is such a shortage of good quality MTs here in the US and we would like to have the work done in the Philippines.  My next question, and if the contract specifically states all work is to stay in the USA, what then?  Well, then we would hire only US based MTs.

Finally, I had to stop him in his tracks....I told him I emphatically disagree.  There is not a shortage of US MTs.  The problem is that you or any other Internationally based company is not willing to pay the US MTs what they are worth.  You want cheap labor, and you won't get that in the US.  Our MTs here in the USA produce such a high quality patient record and you have to be willing to compensate for that.  If you are interested in USA contracts but want to use cheap labor with no concern for quality, than I am not the person for this position.

I am so furious right now as I mull over the conversation......am I just blind or is there really a shortage here in the US of quality-driven MTs.

I am an MT myself as well as QA Specialist and I just do not agree with this mentality.  I think they use this excuse to justify their wanting to offshore.  I see through the smoke screen; however, I guess I just need to hear it from my fellow MTs.

What are your thoughts on this issue of not enough trained and experienced MTs here in the USA?

Not sure if they are hiring, but there is no shortage of work.
x
No shortage on my online account
I only work via .wav account right now, so that is ONLY online work. My account has a backlog, and the total amount of minutes on the system for all online accounts awhile ago was about 2900, so I have no idea what's going on with your account, because there's no shortage that I can see.
I seriously doubt there will ever be a work shortage again (sm)
This company is growing so rapidly, it's hard to keep up.  Several new accts in the last few weeks, and they seem to be big ones.  True enough, they may fully staff them soon, but as long as you have a backup acct for slow times, there is no problem.  You want them to be flexible, but you have to be flexible as well.  I have typed on about 6 or 7 different accounts and the most I've EVER run out of work in 2 years is for about an hour.  I have learned to take advantage of a few slow hours here and there.  I don't foresee it happening again any time soon though.
There is no shortage. And as far as the "aging workforce" sm
if they'd pay me what I am WORTH instead of fractions of a cent maybe I wouldn't have to work 2 jobs 7 days a week and age myself even effing faster.
Agree - No shortage on my account
I don't recall seeing any complaints about no/low work at TT really until the switchover to voice recognition on some accounts. I can't help but wonder if those running out of work are the ones refusing to do VR.

Oh well, I'm back to typing, too...tons of work on there to be done!
Time clock isn't bad. You quickly get used to it. No big deal. sm
I find them pretty flexible, but you do have to work your total required hours.
could you quickly copy and paste your document into another? then
you could just keep adding on the lines in each document to your own master document for the day. Then you would have a line count for the day. I bet you could write a macro to do this.
It's a good company. There is no shortage of work.
If anything, too much work
Shortage of work has been a MAJOR complaint....
with all 4 MTs that I know who work at MDI.  We are all trying to stay loyal to them, but it seems as though no one is listening and they just keep hiring!!  If you have work, you should be counting your blessings, but it is only fair to let those people seeking employment at MDI to know what a lot of us are experiencing.
Do you know there is a bonus this weekend on some accounts. No shortage here. nm
x
I totally agree! How can there be a shortage of American MTs when
so many of us have lost jobs due to outsourcing?? There is a greater shortage of reputable companies willing to pay reasonable rates than there are unavailable MTs. What's worse is the growing number of companies that don't pay on time, bounce checks, cheat line counts etc. GRRRRR!
Then they should give that work to those who have a shortage. Otherwise, they are overhiring. nm
x
must clarify: I meant using the excuse of a shortage of U.S. MTs. nm
