Why MQ is "villified"

Can't speak for MDI. This message is long, so those who don't want to read it move to next post instead of flaming me for being long winded. If you are a lover and protector of MQ, you won't like it either, so MOVE ON and SHUT UP.

My experience with MQ and why I left:
1. If you want to be a "statutory employee" that is a creative name for IC, so they can scam on paying state UA taxes.

As statutory, you can use your own equipment, or you have to lease from MQ, when I left there it was over $30.00 a month, I have heard it is now as high as $50.00. In the course of 5-50 years, or however long you work there, you have paid for their equipment several times over the value of what it is worth. No MT should have to pay for equipment; the company should provide it. Period.

Then for their DQS system, we had to have high-speed internet access. MQ paid the first $50.00; MT paid difference. In some rural areas, high-speed internet runs $80-90.00 a month, so factor that in to offset whatever bonuses you make.

Then even though you are allegedly an IC, you are providing a lot of personal "freebies" on your own time. The office I worked out of was so cheap, they did not even send hard copy printed information, they simply posted it on a defunct message board and expected you to copy it. Sometimes this info related to accounts, instructions, and could be 3 to 10 pages long. It was MT's responsibility to "write this down verbatim", particularly if it was in reference to a standard paragraph/med report a doctor wanted. You did that on your own time. Conference calls which are work-related are not paid by MQ. That again is more of your free time, and that is whether you are FTE or SE. Occasionally MQ schedules mandatory conference calls. Think you can bill for your time as an IC? Not on your life. That was the final straw for me.

Now, with DQS, I understand that there are hidden "divisors" that calculate your line counts. They can promise you 7,8,9 or 10 cpl; but you're probably typing 1.3 to 1.5 times as many lines as will be reflected when you go to check how much you have left; how much you have to do.

There is no holiday incentive, no weekend incentive (at least at office I worked with. Offices occasionally can place in a temporary incentive if the manager chooses to, but don't rely on this, and it varies from 1 MQ office to the next.

Do not expect an automatic raise; take the chance and ask for one, maybe you'll get it; maybe you won't. I guarantee you won't get one if you don't ask. MQ has a DON'T ASK/DON'T GIVE policy.

If you want to work FT, you are provided a FREE computer, WOO HOO! the health care is a joke. When I was there, the MT paid almost $500.00/month out of her own pocket to cover a family of 4 UNITED HEALTH PLAN(?) Can you afford that monthly payment along with your mortgage/rent, car payment, groceries, children's needs? If you can, God bless you. Personally, I don't know anything about MDI, but they could not possibly be worse. Add to that the number of ethics/fraud lawsuits by both clients and MTs -- well, you have to decide for yourself if those things matter.

Take heart though, these 2 companies are NOT your only options, particularly if you are experienced and skilled. Good luck.
