Who needs it? We don't. Just don't buy anymore with their silly rule changing.

Not saying this is the rule, but (sm)
It could be a regional thing. I used to do a lot of accounts in S FL and it was pretty ESL-intensive. I then did some N FL accounts and it was the opposite, but believe it or not, the dictators were MUCH worse.
Regions of California, Florida, Texas, and NY probably have more ESLs than other states. I could be wrong on this and probably a gross generalization, but I'm only speaking from experience.
My new rule
With rare exception, I don't do any test without the courtesy of verbal communication in advance with the company advertising. If they can't or won't even speak to you via phone to answer a few simple questions, how do you know if you even want the job?
I don't have *any* problem testing, but if the management can't or won't even speak to you first, it can be a sign of under-staffing/poor organization.
You seem to be the exception, not the rule. nm
..
You are the exception rather than the rule. ....
Most companies pay nothing, or next to nothing. Then you have to consider that you have to deal with the very personal fact that AAMT loves its Indian MTs more than you, and you are just funding their growth...it's just not worth it. I've been on thier boards, I have been a CMT, and I'm more than happy to shred AAMT's pleas to have me maintain their lifestyle. NO SOUP FOR AAMT!
AAMT Nazi.
is that a rule on the website or something?
If so, sorry....didn't know
As a general rule....
75% is a pretty heavy figure on terms of ESL. That sounds like an account no one else wants to do.
You are an exception rather than the rule....
I learned on the job too, but that was a LONG time ago. It has been my experience nowadays that you have to pass testing for most nationals to get hired. Those who can pass testing with no experience are few and far between and you are to be commended. This particular person already has acknowledged that she could not pass testing and does not have the knowledge required, and was asking how to gain that knowledge.
What concerns me is that the rule is
Unless you like being banned, then keep on having laughs over the job seeker's board posts. It happened to me, so I like to tell people that I was instantly banned for pointing something out on a job post. It is not acceptable no matter what the forum or nature of the job posting. It is not really up to you or I to decide what is just having a laugh! The moderator has posted this in the past. NO MAKING FUN OF THE JOB POSTS. Someone may want to apply, do you think that there are only American MTs in America? Do you think only foreign MTs stay in their country? Even if the job was foreign in nature, that doesn't give anyone the right to poke fun or have a laugh at someone else's expense especially someone who is offering jobs!!!!!!!!!
Then it must the the exception, not the rule. sm
According to everything I've heard and seen, the offshore work is garbage. That doesn't mean there may not be a service or two in other countries that hires educated MTs, who are proficient in English and conscientious at their jobs. I have worked with people from other countries that did as well as I do. But they are few and far between, and if every company let their offshore work stand on its own, or had it being QA'd offshore, most of the accounts would be back on shore in a short time. JMO
The exception to the rule.

There is no set rule. A lot of it depends
on your bank as to when they will accept the money and let you have access to it. If you know in advance that they will hold your check if date falls on a Saturday until Monday, then you just have to adjust to that.
I think you should rule the world
with that attitude. I tell them, I do this, I do that, well goody for you.
First rule: DON'T assume
Can see you are frustrated but don't assume people who *might* have answered your original post saw it.
If you were going to take the time and effort to write a second post - why choose such an off-putting tone?
How about: I know you all are very busy trying to work 24/7 to make HALF of what you used to make - but my first post went unanswered. Would someone KINDLY please point me in the right direction?
Rule #1 about job-seeking: Never, EVER, pay
'background check', NADA. The company should always pay for those things. If not, look elsewhere. I learned that one the hard way a long time ago.
Well, don't look at me, I didn't set the rule. :)
I just tried to 'splain it.
Just another minion here.
exception to the rule
I agree with you completely, but yesterday I had to delete an entire report and retype it. After I downloaded it, I noticed it was totally nonsensical. As I began listening to the audio, I found out why. There was a TV in the background that was actually louder than the dictator and VR was trying to pick up what the person on TV was saying. It made a total mess of it and of course had nothing at all to do with the patient's report, so this was a case of having no choice. Luckily these are few and far between. This morning I had a report with absolutely no corrections needed and it was wonderful! But then I thought, Whoa! If they all get this perfect, I'll be history! So I'll gladly make a few corrections!
Oh how silly of me! Thanks! (nm)

Silly!
In France all they do is strike and riot!
silly me...
I thought this board was for discussion, as in two sides of the issue, not just complaining, and for sharing among our profession.
I am not judging anyone having a hard time making ends meet. I am simply saying some people have got lousy attitudes. They would rather complain than do anything to improve their situation. Case in point, how sad that you think the purpose of a discussion board is simply to complain and how sad that you have no one else to talk to - like a person whose face you can see. But frankly, if someone thought my only purpose was to listen to them complain, i guess i wouldn't want to talk face to face with them either. It's not that I don't have anything to contribute; it's just that you don't want to hear anyone who actually is satisfied in their job or thinks changing is better than wallowing.
Ladies we rule the MT world!!! nm
a
That is what happens when corporations rule our government. sm
In a global economy, quality of life will have to readjust to the lowest common denominator because there are always third world countries that will do it cheaper.
Welcome to the New World Order that Bush told us about!
Allstate is definitely an exception to that rule
I know who each of those persons were that posted. I also know that Allstate believes in their ICs working as a team and helping each other. There are no secrets -- in fact, just the opposite. Interactions amongst MTs and QAs is encouraged. Names, email addresses and phone numbers are openly shared (with permission) if it means making help more readily available to other MTs when they need it. Everyone on the company is provided a direct number to reach even the owner/CEO at any time. And by the way, yes all those MTs do work for Allstate, and no they are NOT the same person. I know all of them.
That was the rule when the site was owned
by Sheri..guess it doesn't apply anymore.
You, my friend, are the exception, not the rule.
There are very few people making that kind of money in transcription anymore. Have you even read the ads posted recently? Fewer and fewer MTSOs are even hiring employees and when they do advertise, their IC compensation is 7, 8, or 9 cpl. Even those companies that are hiring employees are doing so at extremely low rates, at the same time overhiring to make sure that their *contract enticements* will be met on the backs of the MTs. Have you noticed the postings from MTs of, not 1, not 2, not 3, but SEVERAL different companies stating that there is no work?? When an IC is working for 8 or 9 cpl or an employee for even less, and there is no work available, how is that person supposed to make $50-60K annually?
People like yourself will criticize others for their opinions and will brag about your own situation, but when push comes to shove do you state what company you work for that allows such a wonderful wage with your abundant work load? What is your fear? That others will jump on board and soon you will be facing the same situation?? Until you have experienced what the *majority* of MTs in this field have been facing, you really have no valid facts to make such a request that other MTs be fired because their situation forces their loss of employment (if they quit because of it), their loss of compensation (if they are docked), or the loss of quality (which will certainly occur) due to the punitive compensation policies in place.
that will be changing
sup's have already said you have to work 40 hrs from sun to sat on the new plan. Glad you are a happy MT at MQ, hope it continues, lucky you
They are out there, but changing to VR...:(

This is kind of silly, isn't it?
I agree with the poster who said that people are entirely too quick to use the term racist. At any rate, I think enough has been said.
I was just being generally silly - but not
sure who my cohorts are! I assure you, I'm a lone jokester.
such a silly comparison.
While clarification from a supervisor is always a good idea, to compare asking for input here from other MTs to ''flagging down strangers on the street'' is pretty silly. (about as ridiculous as declaring it shows ''rampant mental illness'')
don't have to be a psychiatrist also to see this is silly ... sm
woohoo ... of 28 lines one day and this and that .. BFD.
Trust them and stay with them and work your fingers off insteady of coming here and trying to stir up trouble ......... or ........ move on and find a company you can trust and don't have to perform 20 different line counting programs to verify .. sheesh.
I'm glad Friday and Saturday are my days off ... this makes me tired ... LOL
I feel silly for saying this, but sm
I really have literally cried a time or two when yet another CP popped up I had never seen before and I could see the next job was yet a different one I had neer seen before and neither one would I likely see again.
I used to be able to transcribe 2000 to 2200 lines per day and made excellent money last year (I was one of the 2006 cheerleaders) but this past pay period, I am lucky to get in 1700 lines a day. I know that's still over the req, but it isn't good enough for me. My DH is a good breadwinner and we are comfortable and not in financial trouble, but the lack of desperation does not mean I am willing to be treated in such a cavalier manner, particularly when I am certainly not cavalier about the work I produce.
I have worked for other companies (non-MT) before that have had new CEOs or have been bought out and the same thing happened with all of them. Every time I hear about major changes going on I cringe. Last year's changes turned out to be great for me but beginning in April of this year, when all my accounts went ASR, things began to slide (I can type MUCH faster than edit ASR) and on July 1, it all went to Hades. I know ASR is a permanent fixture so I've gotten used to that, but the World Wide Pool is another matter.
I have applied several places. I have heard from two. But it was Lee I was really interested in. Unfortunately, I have only five years' experience so I can't compete with yours. I don't begrudge you this opportunity, though. We will both end up with something better, regardless. :-)
I DO WORK THERE SILLY!!!!!
Obviously you DON'T....LOL!!!!!!
Now what was silly about my comment?
I just wanted to make sure that the company was being plugged by an ACTUAL employee. I'm glad you are happy there at Axolotl.
You silly girl!
nm
I agree about this being a bit silly
Who knows who posts these things? It could be a very well connected person who owns another MTSO who is a friend of someone who got the e mail. We don't know who how people heard about this e mail. So to say it is someone working at TT now is not necessarily true. And about the guy being foreign, give me a break. The guy has a name from Europe. Guess what, my name is European and my family has been here for over 100 years. Someday I hope that people just wait and see what happens before they begin to panic and post here. If you run out of work, call and ask for more. They answer the phones. If you are upset and worried about the new company, call the new HR person, she is available. If you have a concern call and talk to your supervisor, I have. If you want out get out. But as the other poster said above, it says in our agreement with TT HR that one of the rules of the handbook is no rumors. Communicate with the supervisor. If you have a beef, get on the phone! I myself am a bit fed up hearing TT praises, then TT bashes. Like this place gets bipolar sometimes. Now I am off to work, which I have because I communicate with my sup. See ya.
This is getting silly now. Please use your common
Volunteering is not illegal in and of itself. Let's see, I could volunteer to bake donuts for a PTA cake sale. But if I volunteered at home to bake donuts for the local bakery to sell daily, that would be illegal. Bakeries are regulated and have to meet rigorous health dept codes, etc. If you're a putz, you can volunteer to transcribe for an MTSO, but again, it has to be set up professionally, and NO I am not sure that it is legal to work for free. I can't go into ShopRite and volunteer to work for the day stocking shelves. What if something happened while I was working there? Slip and fall? It just isn't legal. Then you compare volunteering to an internship program. Apples and oranges. Of course, an internship program is a different entity and whoever was running one would already know all the legal guidelines and have them in place. But, NO you cannot transcribe medical records on a volunteer basis while someone else farms you their work on an informal basis, while they get paid for it, submitting it to someone else who hired THEM, not YOU, to transcribe it. Its called subcontracting, and its a legal matter, not like volunteering to walk somebody's dog for them while they are on vacation. Please, please consider our career a profession.
Where DID you come from? You have me laughing myself silly!
Love the comparison with MQ and MDI-MD...
Probably sounds silly but...
I used to think a coupon for a free pizza once in awhile would have been nice, ha-ha. I'm not hard to please but I know you're right, somebody will always find fault with a gift.
Your post is really silly...sm
she has to have your SS# to cut you a check.
Not VR, silly goose!
''Exciting new technology! This is all ''newspeak'' and George Orwell would be so very proud.
What a silly concept
You make a case that wages are stagnant - but miss that people might not be happy about that?
Perhaps you are not affected by wages that don't increase while the cost EVERYthing does - but the vast majority of people are affected.
And do I have it right? You are complaining - about people complaining?
I don't know about Stentel, but a good rule of thumb seems to be SM
that if you are an extremely fast MT, you will likely not make as many lph doing VR. However, if you are pretty average speed at transcribing, you may be able to increase your lph significantly with the VR once the system has been trained pretty well. Just something to think about....
I think they changed that rule a year or so ago. They can post.
nm
If I knew the answer, I could rule the world. Too
x
Was always told a general rule of thumb...
60 minutes equals 600 lines, 80 minutes, 800 lines and so on. The formula did pan out for me. I was always able to figure out how many lines I would get by how many minutes I pulled from the system.
That's because they probably keep changing your divisor
to count the lines to match whatever they want to pay you. They are so bad. Taking money from transcriptionists who do all the real work and have the experience and intelligence that THEY USE to make THEIR MONEY!
Changing careers
I was a Transcriptionist for 11 years and going through the same thing - less pay and terrible accounts. Changed companies a lot, but it was always the same - little or no work. Finally I had a friend of mine who is a doctor (has her own family practice) tell me that she hired a company out of India to do her work for 7cpl with 24 hour TAT and they would incorporate it into her computer system. This was the last straw for me and I got out. I found a job transcribing and captioning videos for the deaf and hearing impaired students at a local university. I also take classes with a couple of these students and take notes. There are other things out there - I am happier than I have been in years!
I am looking into changing fields..from MT
to coding but don't know if at 53 I'm getting too old to switch OR if coding will go the way of transcription as far as being computerized. I know MQ has new transcription/coding computerized equipment but I'm hoping and praying billing and/or coding will continue to be done by humans for a while. I just don't know that much about billing/coding now to know what the field looks like but I've contacted a couple local schools about classes.
Changing world
It appears that management and supervisor positions are going down the drain. Reason being, a lot of them are working for two companies at one time, thus drawing two paychecks. The company officials who know nothing about transcription management have no idea that it doesn't take a full day to manage transcriptionists. Same being with QA and Editor positions, they are going to line rate now for the same reason. Seems like a few unworthy people have just ruined it for everyone. The trend now is going toward no titles of authority and just everyone having responsibilties that will cover a full day including typing in that job description. I wouldn't say thats really a bad change, I would say the companies are wising up, it is a business after all.
In defence of some though, there are though companies that assign 50 hospital accounts to one supervisor which is just terrible because they are on 24-7. Bottom line, it is no longer the prestigious job it used to be.
