the $300 fee, their explanation makes perfect sense. As an IC you will be writing that $300 off with your taxes. Technically, as an IC you need to bring your own tools to work to complete the job. I've worked many places as an IC though and they've never charged for the software. I can't believe it's no where in the contract though - that is just wrong.
As far as having you commit to a schedule, that's another no-no. If you're an IC they really can't dictate your hours, but we know many do ask for some sort of schedule. If that works for you, then it's fine I guess.
Would I pay the $300? Probably not. Technically, I suppose they do have the right to charge it though since you are signing on as an IC and not an employee.
Have you decided what you're going to do? Did you sign anything at the time of install on your computer that obligates you to this fee regardless?
