Seriously, Im sitting here with my hand over my heart shaking my head at how this company treated you.
We're all adults, we all know when things are slow, something is likely 'up.' But...well, to have someone (someone you should presumably should be able to TRUST, your boss) lie to you face and then just a few hours later get a layoff notice in the mail is just inhumane.
I know when the dust settles you'll land on your feet, so you hang in there. You're NOT just a statistic. You're a human being who took what you were told at face value and did your very best.
YOU did nothing wrong.
THEY should hang their heads in shame.
