They don't RESENT paying technologists a decent wage for THEIR skilled labor, but somehow there is a mindset against paying a SKILLED Transcriptionist what THEY are worth.

I'm sorry for your losses, but I really resent your
saying that basically posters who do not put their names are not honest. You've got to be kidding me, though sadly you're not. You're with Transcend, and your post is glowing, obviously you feel ingratiated -- indebted -- to them, including posting names of those you wish to praise. Obviously you would want them to know its you. But for those of us who had unhappy experiences, its not really appropriate to be posting our names with our experiences. I gave exit interviews and shared my unhappiness, and was asked to stay, which I declined. Its naive to think that I am dishonest because I don't want to post my name. Again, I am sorry for your losses, but the sum and substance of your recommendation for Transcend is that they are a great company to work for when you have death and illness in your life. For me, the daily 24/7 routine during blessed periods in my life with no tragedy was torture, pure torture. So, I'd rather not base my decision to try a company based on the tragedy situations, but the daily ones. Again, great that they treated you right. I'm sure my company would do the same. You are just way off base by implying that negative posters who give full details are being dishonest simply because we choose not to put our true names out here. And just because you post a name, including details of a story, still does not mean you are you. You still could be Transcend management with an imaginary employee who you treated wonderfully. No way to know in the internet who is real and who isn't.

Absolutely - I work off FTP and have a 24-hour window to return files.
I work my own schedule daily and keep my TAT. It is that simple. No big deal. I download my files late in the evening, transcribe the next day and upload them late in the evening.
Whatever works!

Oh they will send it to you if you request it -- by testing you they get their work done free of charge.

What if any companies use the DVI VoiceWave Player
to download jobs. I find it very easy, efficient and fast with good sound quality. Just wonder if there are any other companies using it, as I will be leaving the company I presently work for.
Their ad says only 6-8 cpl and you need Start/Stop Player. nm

Little box for transnet player question. (sm)
Is there a way to move this box up to the top of the screen and out of the way of the document so you can leave it open while typing report? Hate to call Tech support if it is really something simple. I tried to just move it, but can't seem to get it done.

Transnet Player Not Working
I have a USB pedal, which normally works with just about everything, but cannot get it to work with the Transnet player. When I manually click on the play arrow on the player itself, it plays, but not with the pedal. What could be wrong?

First of all when the player comes up click Alt+T to keep player on top. Next click Alt+M to remember position.
1. Alt+V = Volume. Move left/right arrow keys to increase or decrease.
2. Alt+P = Play. Move left/right keys as above to increase or decrease.
3. Alt+A = Auto backspace. Same principles as above.
4. Alt+R = Rewind.
5. Alt+F = Forward.

People who want to talk about their rights should know how they apply or it just makes them look stupid. Also, if you're going to write the President, the newspaper, or whatever, you should run spell check as well as check grammar, punctuation, usage, etc. If the referenced letter was the same one I saw posted here yesterday, it didn't speak well of the MT who wrote it.
I was going to go work for them at one point, but it turned out their sm
software platform was incompatible with another software platform I was using, so I ultimately had to turn down the position. They had a good benefit package, it seemed, and they were upfront about their ties to India or the Phillippines (I cannot remember). Everyone I dealt with was kind and professional. Good luck!

That said I have always liked it, but it only allows 3 installations, which I have used up on mine, after that you have to get permission from them. I need to do that as my computer crashed and am now unable to reinstall it, a real pain in the butt. I have heard you have to purchase additional installations after 3 but don't know about that as of yet. But it is a very versatile program/player, places every type of voice file that I have ever needed it to (.dss, .wav, Playall).
I got it to open on Real Player but I didn't do it. The tests
had patient names etc.. I suspect they wanted free work done and then had a 24-hour turnaround. No thanks. I smell a rat.

If I happen to get all my lines in during 4 hours, then fantastic for me - but if I have contracted to be on for 6 hours, I still need to be on for 6 hours. A schedule is a schedule.

Need help with DSS files ?
I am busily updating my resume while my new (NO) Rewards package from MQ sits next to the trash. Looking over ads in the job board, several I am interested said "need software for DSS files." I feel really stupid here and am not sure what is DSS files or the software needed. I am ashamed to ask. I am a good MT but after so long with MQ I have not had to look for a job in many, many years so feel out of the loop so to speak.
Please explain DSS files and what I would need to purchase. Thanks so much.
DSS files
DSS = Digital Speech Standard. Simply the format the voice file is in. Some recorders use memory sticks, memory cards, flash cards, etc. Just depends on what make of hand-held they are using as to what format the voice file is in. As BayGirl said, most software plays them without problem. I use WavPlayer and have not had one I could not play yet, or could not get a free plug-in download to play them.

DCT files
Write to them and tell them that, because I was able to open it, but it had just static no words at all. I wrote to them and they are going to send me the file in a different way or format. So you should write to them as well.

Thanks! Yes, I did e-mail them and technical is suppose to send them a different file. My wave player will not open up .DCT files and the Real Player or Windows Media Player will not play those types of files on my computer. I have tried every way to play it, but no luck. I guess I will just have to be patient.

Just to clear this up - no patient files were sent thru the IM, only the setup files, the account instructions, etc. I do think this would be a great company to work for, I just felt like the trainer and I were on different levels and had a little bit of conflict, partly because I don't think I was as computer savvy as she wanted me to be.
Wav files
Has anyone every received a wav file, but was unable to get it to play? I have a wav player, but when I was sent two files to test with I was unable to get the files to play. Any suggestions?

Make sure the file type (.dss, .wma) is checked on whatever player you use. Sometimes I have gotten these too and for some reason when I went back in my player, the box was unchecked for that file type.
About WAV files.
Same here. I just recently put in application with DTS Medical Transcription. We they had Zip files. Not sure if these are wav files or not. But turned out my computer warned me not to upload them into my system. They were corrupted. Anyway, this is not the first time I have not been able to test for a company because they use wav files. I don't know either what the answer is. I just don't test when companies use these files for testing. Maybe someone else here knows how to handle this.

Just curious: How many files do you have to transcribe? And how many minutes of dictation did the entire test end up to be?
