In Reply to: My take on MDI-MD VR - VA MT
I also work at MDI. So far, my account is not headed to VR, at least I don't think so. Nobody has said anything. I have full-time job at a local hospital that has switched to VR, probably 2+ years ago. My productivity was very high, it has dropped by 20%. Luckily, we still get paid per hour but just can't get the numbers to go up. Only a number of docs passed the test to VR. We still get straight typing. With the straight typing, I try to increase my productivity with new ESPs, etc. VR company said productivity will increase, backlogs will no longer be. We have yet to be in TAT where I work. I believe it is very helpful for the transcriptionists who do not have a high productivity. VR is also helpful for newbies. A co-worker actually quit asking me to listen when we got VR, which helped my productivity as well.
I also feel there is too much editing to be done. It is almost outrageous what the VR picks up that needs to be edited. You actually have to experience it to understand. Another BIG problem, I think, where I work there are 9 transcriptionists and only 2 of us type according to BOS. (We work for a service also.) The other 7 type totally different. So, we correct things the way they are to be only for someone else to change according to the way they type. So, we are correcting, they are doing their thing, we are correcting, etc. Very frustrating, but boss apparently has no interest in typing according to BOS. Hate to say, but quantity means more to her than quality. We do have standards that we must meet but quality is not high on the priority list for her.
I don't particularly care for the VR, but I have to do it. After 2 years, I am still trying to find ways to increase my productivity. If and when my account goes VR, at least I will have some experience with it, and hopefully, by then, I will have found a way to increase my productivity.
I guess we have to be prepared for the future. I have been in transcription for 25 years. I like the flexibility that MDI gives their ICs and that outweighs having to worry about VR. I am still trying to keep an open mind about VR, but I think it still needs some fine tuning, for sure.
