Up until now they only hired highly experienced, top-notch

MTs. But, with their recently and drastically-lowered pay scale, that will likely change, and Acusis will become a company of newbies and Indians. Just like the other mega-MT companies out there.

I believe experienced and top notch editors and QA are underpaid as well...sm
Most of these companies pay low for a good MT and editor. I know it is not feasible in many income situations, but if the large nationals who pay so low were to lose their good editors and MTs, who would they be left with to produce transcribed reports?? Let them outsource for their low rates, and when the work comes back, guess what, who's gonna fix it? It's up to us for the sake of pride in our profession, to take a stance here. Sad to say, but many out there working for such low wages are ruining it for this profession. I'm not saying it is being done viciously, but whether you see it or not, it is happening. Evidently the health care regulatory bodies or govt. cannot or will not do anything about sending our citizens medical records overseas. The ball is left in our court, and we have enough power (particularly the experienced and skilled transcriptionist) to make a change.
Interchondular notch.......sm
Come on no MT/QA is that stoopid - it HAS to be intentional. I left a blank because I could not understand the sloppy, slurring, heavily accented dictator and I refuse to guess. This goes through with MY name on it?!?!?!?! What does QA gain from this?
And I see, too, that your grammar is as top notch as your spelling!
HAHAHAHAHA
I think it depends on experience, account hired for, etc. I was hired at .08 per line sm
but after 90 days went to 0.085 and then 0.09 about 90 days after that. I am now at 0.0925 and have been there a year. I have to point out that the line rate might not be the highest but I can verify my counts, have plenty of work, get paid on time and have a great manager. To me, leaving a bad national and the headaches that went with it was well worth the cut in pay I took. Funny thing is that I took a pretty sizable pay cut but make more money ?!?!
You obviously think highly of yourself
I don't know about you, but I am young at 23. I don't sit with books in my face looking at punctuation. I don't speak correctly or think of things like that in a superior way. You think I proof replies to my supervisor? Think again! Do you think she proofs hers? Don't think so. I have seen typos time and time again, but would I criticise her? Absolutely not. It is just rude. Don't put yourself on a pedestel. It makes you look bad in a huge way. You have no right to tell me I am not ready for anything. If I feel I am and my supervisor sure does, what does that make you? Ignorant. You are just upset and try to belittle people to make you feel better about yourself. I play games, I talk to real people, I do normal things, and I do not proof every little thing that comes my way unless it is called for and posting a reply is not called for, in a chat room is not called for, and in an e-mail is not called for either. Personally, I don't care what forum this is to be honest. I don't care if it were the PROOFING FORUM and particularly don't care if it is an MT Forum. Just don't do it. It is not right. No one wants to be judged all the time. I came here for advice and support and it totally backfired. I think this place stinks. No one is consistent. I will look to my supervisor and coworkers for guidance and they have, I am sure, a lot more experience than most of you in the field and they don't act petty and full of themselves. You all should really be ashamed of yourselves.
I am not proofing any replies, nor will I ever. There is no need to unless you are paying me, are you? Didn't think so! So, please proof and keep them to yourselves or perhaps you are the proofer of this forum and are getting paid? Didn't think so. It is a waste of your valuable time. Go get a friend and try not to grammatically correct them, k?
This is not even a place to make friends or to have someone to look to for guidance. This is like an animal war zone where people give crappy all over the place advice and instead of helping, make someone feel bad.
Good luck to all of you on this forum and I will not return. Like I said, I will turn to someone who actually knows what they are doing.
I don't need a raise so we are clear. I was just simply asking if it were ever done and then I opened a whole new can of crappy worms.
The Best Of Luck To All!
Proof Away and No Need To Respond.
Bye
I do and would highly recommend
Always plenty of work, awesome communication, just an overall wonderful company. I'm going on 2 years with them and have never been happier! Good luck!
That's why they are highly praised here. NM
.
Highly recommended by someone else...
another MT who I have a lot of respect for who worked for them as an IC in the past highly recommended them to me. Said the owner is great and the work is good. They didn't have what I was looking for at the time but I've kept them on my list for future reference!
QA is highly over rated anyway.
Wow! Is all I can say to this post. Who wants to be QA? Not me. I'd rather utilize my skills for the entire document, then fix others errors.
I highly recommend . . .
SPi-BPO.
You may have heard that they outsource, but what they actually do is hire people in other countries to do work in those countries.
From numerous conference calls of over 50 people just on my one team, I detected no non-US accents.
(I'm in NC, work out of the Richmond, VA office, and work for agencies in 10 different states.)
Anyway, I don't know what their experience requirement is (and I'm one of those ancient veterans with over 20 years' experience), and I can't seem to find out on their website, though the fact that it does NOT mention a specific experience requirement and the fact that the testing site mentions new grads, it would seem they're more interested in what you know than for how long you've known it.
I'd be surprised if the requirement is all that much because most of the work is disability, mostly psychiatric, some orthopedic, and therefore not so technically dense, if you will.
They even seem like if they do have a policy, they might make an exception if you test well.
Anyway, it's worth checking it out--you can test right on the website.
(Never out of work, very clear dictators, allow use of former reports as templates; full employee status, part-time and full-time, including great benefits--even a few, like 401k, for part-timers, like me; only hire actual MTs as managers, etc.)
Sorry to gush; I really am an MT and not a recruiter, but I've worked for so many lousy companies that it's good finally (again, after 20 years) to be able to highly recommend one.
(And now, in fact, I do need to get back to work--yes, at 1 a.m.--flexible schedules too.)
Check it out:

Good luck, Dawn,

I highly doubt
I would really like the name of the VP that told you that. I don't believe that anyone at Transcend would tell you they were giving the easy work to the offshore people because that is all they can do.
I don't buy it.
I understand now, but I highly
left if they were all turned in to the IRS. They all pretty much treat ICs as employees and require line quotas, set hours (even though they say flexible), and often times that you be logged into a messenger of some sort to clock you. I just went through it, and it was sooooooooo not worth it. At 8.5 cpl, they can have their messenger and their set (but flexible) hours. It's almost uncanny how we are treated more like children than either employee or IC, for that matter.
I would highly recommend
them. Pay always on time and direct deposited. Work easy and also as long as you do your work in the required TAT, they basically leave you alone. I would say accept the position, as they are really good to work for. R
highly subjective
I think work loads are subjective and differ from person to person (account to account). I was hired to do a particular clinic and it was lost. Now I am scraping for work - many days sign on and no work available with repeated request for a replacement account and told there are none. So it really just depends. Some people seem to have adequate work loads and others are struggling with no work. Inconsistent.
MDI-MD does, and they are highly thought of unless
you want to work the PRN program which allows you to work at 7 c a line anytime you want. Of course, they say regular schedule is 1 day a weekend, and 24 hours turn around, no schedule, but the fact is they expect you to meet your line requirement, so you sit there 24 hours a day scraping for the lines. Due to overhiring, I am assuming. TAT and all. I'd rather have a time I know the work will be there at 8 c a line rather than overhiring and my scraping. Of course 7 cents a line for anytime you want is about the same. Pick and choose what you like. But as an IC they don't have to promise you work to be there at all. It's in the contract. Perhaps this company wants you to work a shift so they don't overhire for coverage. That is my take on things having been there, done that.
As an Andrews grad, I highly
I felt well-prepared when I got my job and never regretted having paid top dollar for my training; as with many things, you truly get what you pay for. In fact, many of the national companies prefer Andrews grads or M-Tec grads as the previous poster mentioned and as a newbie you will need every advantage. Good luck to you.
I doubt very highly its TransTech
After all she said she could use Ctrl I to view sessions statistics but Transtech disabled the ability to use that function.
I speak highly of TransTech, too.
Why would you leave such a great company that offers so much and that you were so pleased of and speak so highly of after you left.
I took Webmedx's course, highly recommend it...
I've been an MT for almost 25 years, but was still quite nervous about the exam. The course helped to keep my attention focused on the task at hand, helped to keep me studying faithfully for the duration of the course until I took the exam. I tend to put things off until the last minute, so the weekly webinars & study materials were invaluable in helping me to study consistently and to stay focused on my goal. Also, I learned a lot! The CMT Review Guide showed me my weak areas, but I concentrated my study time on the Language of Medicine, the 2nd ed. BOS, and an anatomy & physiology text. Also read Human Diseases by John H. Dirckx, MD, but I'm not sure that was very helpful. In the Webmedx prep classes, you'll get a lot of very helpful information & handouts, and the review questions will force you into the books!
I work for them and would recommend them highly. Email me if you
want to ask specific questions. oceansonata@aol.com
I highly doubt these companies are running in the
The other thing is you don't really see the invoicing that goes to the client. You are paid for what you transcribe. No one knows what the company is really charging the client. The client could be paying for spaces, but the company is not paying the MT for spaces, etc. There are all types of scenarios. The MT takes the hit, but if you are an MT that has had your own accounts, then you've been there and done that. With your own account comes more responsibility. So it sometimes tends to even out. Others have posted this that it is not so easy to take a week off when you are maintaining your own accounts. Isn't it so much easier to let an MTSO know you need a week of vacation, come back to work, and everything be just hunky chunky?
I cannot recommend Instant Text highly enough...
Here is a link to many many reasons why...

These will tell you why this program is the best thing that ever happened to my production.
Great company. Would highly recommend!!
Pays on time. Great owners. Very helpful. Nice software. Flexible schedules.
I highly doubt that it was someone in management posting. sm
They have other ways to communicate with their employees. It bothers me that employees post questions that should go to the office or their lead but still post on here. Go to the source. I work for KS and when I ask a question to my lead, I get an answer not a guess.
I worked for one of the highly touted companies sm
and it was GREAT...until they went overwhelmingly to voice and took entirely too much work away from the traditional MTs to give to voice. This was after they told us it was a CHOICE, but little by little they are forcing the issue with their MTs. It is NOT a choice! They are APPEAR to be somewhat overstaffed at this juncture.
I need to keep my insurance and I do have the belief that this company will come to their senses and nix so much voice. I could be full of it, but I really think they will. They are a hop and a skip from the hospitals complaining because the editing is EXTREMELY poor on the part of the MTs doing it. Time will tell. You will note, this is not bashing the company so much as bashing poor MTs who can't actually do the job put in front of them.
My solution was to go and find another job at a place that didn't want to go to voice at all. I posted my resume on another site and within 24 hours, I was contacted, hired within 48 and scheduled for setup/installation within 72. We are working on some issues, but this seems to be a very nice small to medium company. They are only offering IC, but that is fine since I have the above as well. They are willing to give me all I can stand of what I want and have voiced being pleased to have found me. It is I who am pleased to have found them.
With the state of affairs in America right now with layoffs and what I believe is a deep recession and/or another depression on the horizon, I DO FEEL VERY FORTUNATE to have ONE job and I have TWO. I don't know any other profession where someone who is looking for a job finds one within 24 hours! It has happened to me the last 4 times I looked for work, PT or FT. You betcha I know I am lucky.
I highly suggest you contact support. AGAIN we are backlogged.
DUH!
I highly doubt that. This is obviously a rumor. She is much too busy to bother. nm
nm
Amphion - I highly recommend this professional, fair company
Best of luck!
Did any of us who left emails hear back from the MT who was highly recommending her
s
Bravo! Great post. I left TT but I will always speak very highly of them.

I left MQ after years and went with a highly rate company on this board (sm)
my account has dried up and I am constantly out of work now...same with backup account. I like the company I'm with and don't want to leave but I HAVE to have a steady account. I realize there are slow times of the year but on this account they have overhired and now it's low a lot of the time.
I said "about to be" hired... not yet hired, and ........
considering it just like I would consider any job.... I didn't accept the job yet and wanted to check out the info out there.
Experienced MTs.
I need input from seasoned MTs. I have been doing this 20 years. What companies can you make a decent living with, decent insurance? I just started with a company a month ago with great bennies, but something is definitely up with line counts. I have to work like a dog to get 800 lines, when I normally hit 1200 to 1500 on a good day during my 2nd week of employment. Even with the learning curve, this is not adding up, I believe they are "stealing lines". I don't have much more time to switch from company to company trying to find a fit. I guess what I am asking, is which companies do not steal lines and have good bennies. TIA
$1.50+ experienced ......nm
nm
You obviously are not very experienced at this.
surgery center, you can put anything you want on your bill and they still pay you on THEIR terms, which is usually net 30 days. They also many times (not always, but often) request invoices once a month. Now if you are doing piddly clinic stuff, or you are subcontracting, that's a different story. But when you're playing with the big boys that's the way it is.
LOL. They cannot keep experienced MTs. sm
Most of us can't wait 4-6 weeks for a paycheck. If you have the ability to wait a long time for a paycheck, then I recommend them. They have good accounts. I wish a well-managed company had those accounts.
Is it possible for an experienced MT to do 250-300
Please let me know what service you work for if its possible. I'm paralyzed about making a decision because I'm hearing such awful things about all the MTSO's.
I have never experienced this, but...
If you have a 3 minute job opened up and it looks like your typing it and an hour later you still have it open, wouldn't that make them wonder and wouldn't they have a right to make sure you are going to finish it. They have a responsibility to keep these jobs in TAT and if an MT holds a job for an extended time or takes a break in the middle it can slow things down - How are they to know if you had an emergency and didn't have time to call in unless they check up. If you need to take a break, it should be between jobs, not in the middle of a 3 minute job that should take at max 9 minutes to type.
Maybe she is not experienced in ESL's? (sm)
I have yet to encounter one that would leave me in tears. I have at other places, though, but not that often.
experienced
She has over 15 years with several large well known teaching hospitals and several of the largest services with multi-accounts -- she is revered by MTs in this large city. Maybe all those who are having such an easy time should be grateful for her taking the horrid dictators rather than seeking to denigrate her skills. There are those in the field who yelp at the slightest bit of difficulty and demand to be given a different account (i.e. EASY stuff) so that those of us with integrity end up cleaning up the dregs. Could be -- who knows?
Experienced MT2
One of the reasons I left OSi is because the QAs people and the ACs made me feel about 2 high. They would talk to you in such a downgrading manner it was totally unbelievable. (during the conference calls). They would not answer e-mails, even with sending a receipt request and this was to QA, AC and also the person who the ACs would answer to. Nevertheless, I did not feel this was appropriate business practice. (I have been transcribing for years, 15+, and ran my own business prior to working for OSi.)
You are right. Pay for experienced MT's
... is very little if any over what these new people make, those who can't even construct a sentence and don't know the basics for doing this job properly. And experience doesn't necessarily mean they are a heck of a lot better than the newbies. It's all about speed - and you know who proof reads and who doesn't. I have seen horrific reports from the most experienced MT's. Yes - working privately is the only way to go.
Too experienced and you will
cost them money. Many companies rather go with less experienced MTs and pay a lower line rate. Good luck with that.
I have experienced the same, however (sm)
so many benefits outweigh the negatives. I worked with my liaison and my issues were finally ironed out. Also, QA is more than willing to admit when they have made a mistake, and they have a sense of humor as well. I keep my eyes open, as is wise to do, but MDI keeps me in work, keeps me happy, and I'm thrilled to have found them so soon in my MT career. (I'm at 3 years and counting with MDI, 8 years as an MT).
Maybe they REALLY want less-experienced MTs that
Those of us who not only have the skills & the experience are sometimes a 'threat' to those in charge. Some prefer the newer ones who think working 7 days/week without a break, bennies or a raise is a good deal. But we know better.
Here is what I experienced...
You are trained via an internet conference meeting call, with 5-6 other transcriptionists. The account manager walks you through the platform and shows you how it works. After about 45 min. to 1 hour that's it...you're on your own. Of course, you always have your lead person to e-mail or call if you have questions.
if you are experienced and let them know sm
you can't do both days, I bet they will hire you as long as you will at least part of one day and maybe Friday too. I did.
I have experienced
this problem. You also have to back up your macros every time you go into Medrite or it will wipe them all out.
Because they will lose more experienced MTs...
And they need to ensure that they have enough people to handle the accounts. If they bait the newbies with the good $ now, then they can put them on editing and cut the pay later but will have a large enough work force to handle the work. That is the reason for the lack of work right now. They have overhired in anticipation of the mass exodus that is currently happening and will continue to happen over the next couple of months. The newbies will be brainwashed with the good pay into believing that Transcend is the best thing since bubble gum and will try to make it work because, as you may know, when you are a newbie, you are happy to get that first good MT job and are more willing to put up with the BS while they work the kinks out of the system, etc., whereas seasoned MTs aren't going to put up with that crap.
Yep!! I have experienced that first hand.
On more than one occasion, the company I worked for knew that I had worked 22 days in a row without a day off. They were so back logged and desperate that their response to me (CEO's response) was so, I've worked 24.
and *experienced* Sheesh.
